Checking out the better pizza places in the world is an important part of our travel. That doesn't always work out, but is certainly did in this instance.
The sauce and crust is so critical in a good pizza, and Black Isle succeeds in both. Their sauce is rich and flavorful with a very good texture. The crust thin and with cornmeal (or equivalent) underneath which helps crisp the bottom and imparts additional flavor and texture.
All of our pizzas (The Hebridean, Goat Cheese and Balsamic, and Venison Salami) were well-topped with fresh, locally sourced ingredients - all balanced and delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking back on it.
The bar itself is comfortable, but since the day was warm we took advantage of the Secret Garden, the Black Isle's rooftop patio. The vibe of the bar is repeated in the Garden, which includes several "beach houses" for more private dining (or in our case, to escape the rain shower that rolled through) as well as a variety of tables open to the sky and under shelters.
Things to know:
* If you are not from Inverness, be aware that street parking is limited is not free and is of limited time (the stated time and no more - you will have to move to a different spot).
* The brewery is not (currently) on the premises, but is open to visitors. Worth a visit.
