Black Kettle offers a wonderfully comfortable and spacious environment, perfect for anyone looking to relax, work, or host a small event. The layout gives customers a sense of freedom and privacy, making it easy to enjoy your time without feeling crowded. Their croissants look incredibly appetizing, with that golden, flaky texture that immediately catches your eye. The coffee is exceptionally good — rich, smooth, and brewed to perfection. Overall, Black Kettle is a great spot to unwind, enjoy good pastries, and savour excellent coffee. Highly recommended!

This is quite the institution among Penang cafes. Our first visit since moving here a couple of years ago. It's a cafe that has so much going for it, and importantly it offers diners space and privacy with tables spread out generously. Now the food. I ordered the fish and chips. Excellent. Light, fluffy and with a crunch the fish was superb, as was the Tarter Sauce. The chips were cut to my liking and seasoned just right. My wife opted for a set meal - soup and dessert of the day plus a dish from a limited selection of six dishes. She asked for the chicken burrito. That's where it went downhill somewhat. Explains the 4 star rating. My fish and chips arrived first. The soup and burrito came about 10 minutes later, together. The mushroom soup was sad. Diluted and nothing mushroomy about it. The burrito was tasty and filling, but in all honesty it was only a wrap. Key ingredients of a burrito weren't in it. But this snafu apart, everything else was great. Service was quite friendly. The Pandan Gula Melaka coffee was excellent. Being offered now to mark Black Kettle's 10th anniversary, it should find a place in the regular menu. So for the sake of a soup a star was lost. The brownish bowl of water shouldn't be passed off as soup in any establishment, least of all in a place that isn't cheap, and where almost everything else works like a treat. We will definitely be back. Loved the ambience, the book shelves, the relaxed vibes.... just so warm and inviting 👍🍽😋. I so badly want to up the score to a 5.

Awesome service, was greeted the moment I touched the door handle, great atmosphere, great music, not too loud, and not too soft. Amazing food, however açai was slightly too watery, however the food otherwise was super good including their drinks Order: Orange Juice (fresh) Passion on Chapel (Mango, Passion fruit, Honey, Ice) would however be great if it came with a straw otherwise it was good:)

Ordered the set lunch spaghetti duck arriabbiata, Michelin curated chicken chop, mocha, and a slice of burnt cheesecake. Good: - service was good and staff were friendly and helpful - burnt cheesecake was dense and smooth Can be better: - the dessert from the set lunch was way too sweet - the duck spaghetti arriabbiata was OK but wasn't filling - the mocha looked good but was lacking in the strength of the coffee, the chocolate was too overwhelming Bad: - the chicken chop had too many crushed bones in it, and it had too many mixed flavours packed into it that it tasted odd - the fries were not hot when served - the chicken chop was a little overcooked

The black kettles are a lovely touch, and the place is both roomy and comfortable. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere is peaceful, so I work well here. Music in the background did not disrupt my Zoom meeting with my international offices. Fresh juice, tasty fish and chips, and steaming tea were my orders. My son had a delicious spaghetti set with soup and dessert, while my daughter-in-law had an average "nasi lemak" dish. I don't think the price is really steep. It will serve as my place of work every time I am visiting Penang. Poor Point: Nonexistent

Absolutely loved this one ! Iced Black flat Coffee perfectly balanced flavors with the smooth richness of coconut milk. It’s refreshing, light, and just the right pick-me-up for any time of the day!! Plus thanks for the cookies. And the staffs are friendly! High five ! ✋🏻

Google
Decided to try Black Kettle café as its eye-catching frontage drew us in. The interior was a pleasant surprise—spacious with high wooden-beam ceilings and stylish décor. Our hot coffee drinks were decent, though not particularly memorable, while the chai and matcha cold drinks were average. Burnt cheesecake is good. Service was prompt and friendly. Overall, it’s worth a visit for the quiet and relaxing ambiance we experienced.

Yelp
I'm going to stick with this being a coffee shop, even though when I visited I didn't order a coffee (or a tea) but rather a nice bottle of Australian craft beer. Yep, they actually had Little Creatures available here, though not actually on tap - I don't believe they even have any taps here. That doesn't really matter because this place does have a lot of charm on its own. It wasn't all that crowded when I was here, but then again I found that to be the case most of the place around here - it probably wasn't really high season in the way that I would expect it to be. Still, I did like the place.

Yelp
I had read about Black Kettle Cafe but when we walked by it looked like a coffee and dessert place. We were looking for our final Penang night's dinner spot and luckily noticed that the restaurant seating was in the back. The place is brightly lit, clean and modern. Although mostly filled with college-aged couples, there were tables of families. The menu is eclectic and I honed in on Garoupa Fish marinated with miso and mirin glaze, served with garlic rice. It was perfectly cooked tender and moist, probably the best fish I ate in Penang. The garlic rice was delicious. Hugo enjoyed his Spaghetti Lamb Green Curry which looked and tasted awesome. It was a relaxing and enjoyable meal. We ended up sharing a dessert. Their cappuccino was spot on. Our waiter was super friendly, maybe because we knew him from his other job. These guys are hard workers! Whether you are going for a full meal or just coffee and dessert, Black Kettle Cafe delivers.

Yelp
We were here for an iced tea but eventually ended up with having a second breakfast. The bread looked very good and we couldn't resist to have some of it. This place is very cozy and we love the feeling of just being there. The breakfast was good, the iced tea also very good. Very good and friendly attentive service. Will be back again next time I'm in Georgetown, Penang.

Yelp
Excellent bakery and coffee. The service here is pretty good too. I am in love with the breads here already!

Yelp
I used to love going to black kettle for the breakfast but now they don't serve breakfast any more. The last couple times the food has been average but the options are limited. However, their breads are great! And you can buy them back.

Yelp
Service is top notch. Food is amazing with a huge range of options. Ambience is lovely. And if you're lucky, you'll spot the owner running around to serve you. He's not usually there as he's also the grocery boy but if you do catch him, he'll give you the best customer service you'll ever experience.

Yelp
Stopped in to grab a quick lunch and a coffee while exploring George towns street art. I had the BLT. Not what I expected but was delish. My wife had the fish and chips. It was not what she expected in quality and taste. My suggestion is pass on the item on the menu. Service and atmosphere get top marks. Had such a nice time we came back later that night to share a bottle of wine( good price) and the cheese plate. Both were great.

Yelp
So i went for the set dinner which is rm39++. The set dinner comes with a soup (pumpkin soup) and i chose classic fish and chips for main course. The soup is not bad. It was quite creamy with a strong crabby taste so i guess they use crab stock to make that soup. As for the fish and chips, to me it was just meh. Nothing to shout about it. The batter was not special and the fish is kinda hard. The first few bites was okay but towards the end it gets a lil jelak.

Yelp
Service was very poor. Staff kept making mistakes, were rude and pushy. A follow-up with the owner to complain and seek resolution demonstrated a condescending and disinterested attitude from him. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree obviously.

Yelp
The reason why I give 4 stars was because I love the environment and the coffee, but I was disappointed with my breakfast. The foods we ordered were not delicious and unflavorful. I heard dinner is wonderful here, but I came here for breakfast, I was utterly dissatisfied. I couldn't even finish it. But as I said, the coffee was nice.

Yelp
My family and I went there twice for breakfast. The food and coffee is good once you get it but when you get it (and if you get it correctly) is the question. The first visit we had to wait at least 45 min to get coffee because the barista had not yet arrived - even though the cafe had been opened for at least an hour before we arrived. (Plus it's a cafe! How is it that you can't order lattes once the place opens!?!) Then one of the orders - a bacon omelette- was incorrect and when we asked the waiter, he immediately grabbed the order from someone else's table because he had accidentally switched/misplaced the orders between the tables. I felt bad for the other customer because she didn't understand why the plate in front of her had just been quickly taken away. On our second visit, 4 of the 5 orders were delivered. I had to ask at least twice where my simple order of eggs & toast & croissant was. After seeing other tables - who had arrived much later than us - getting their food and after a third frustrated inquiry, I finally received my order - without the croissant. So I cancelled the croissant. And I ate my breakfast while the rest of my family watched since they had finished their meals well over 30 minutes ago. Service is super slow. The only redeeming qualities is that the place is clean and air-conditioned, and the food and coffee is good once you get it. The staff is friendly too.

Yelp
Delicious! I wandered past the cafe during my wanderings around Georgetown, and it looked like a great place for lunch. (And a good reprieve from the heat wave.) I got a roasted chicken sandwich and a cold lemon honey tea. The tea was amazing! Tasted like American lemonade, I could've had several glasses. The sandwich was good, but the ciabatta bread was very greasy, and made it hard to eat the sandwich without it falling apart. Good flavors though and the rest of the menu looked mouthwatering. It's pricey at about 25RM for entrees, and around 10RM for non-alcoholic drinks.

Yelp
Waited over an HOUR to get breakfast for two people and when it came out the bacon was so hard and burnt, the butter was cold. I asked them to heat up a pastry- they bagged it to go and when I touched it it was cold so I had to wait AGAIN for it to be reheated. Wouldn't go back I left so frustrated.

Yelp
Good for coffee and dessert. Great ambience. Definitely geared towards the tourists. We tried tiramisu and cappuccino. Both were great!

Yelp
Superb taste in food and bakery. There are so many choices of bread & pastries to choose from. I have been buying the breads here for my family & relatives and they all love it. Also, I was not a big fan of drinking coffee until I tried Black Kettle's. Its beans are from Australia too. But of course, I won't be ordering 3 cups of coffee for a meal. So I ordered Harney&Son's tea!! I have not seen this brand in Penang yet but it tastes so good On a side note, they have a very outstanding interior design, using natural lighting in the cafe and a wall of greenery potted plants. The cafe has free, fast WIFI and fully air-conditioned. It's the place to be for relaxing and enjoying your time there; avoiding the hot&humid weather in Penang. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND Black Kettle cafe to visit in Penang
