Black Lion Inn, Derwenlas

Stayed locally for two nights, came in for dinner on the first night on a whim, and it was so good we came back for the second night also! The food was incredible, we had the lasagne, the beef burger and the cheesy garlic bread, all were 10/10. Genuinely some of the best pub food we've ever had. Superb!

Visited for our New Years Day evening meal and not disappointed.. Beautiful cosy traditional layout and the log burner fire was on which just added to the atmosphere. Service was friendly and helpful and the food was stunning. We had 2 different burgers, pulled pork and the lasagne and all 4 plates empty, I can't remember the last time we as a family all enjoyed our meal so much. Highly recommend booking a table or popping in if you are travelling through/staying in the area as we did at new year. 5* for everything...

Gorgeous little pub, full of character. Food was delicious. We came for a celebration and staff went beyond to make it a special occasion. Definitely recommend. We’ll be back.

I love this place. From the moment you walk through the doors you enter into a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. We had a lovely cozy place to sit near the huge fire place, surrounded by the old style exposed beams covered with fairy lights, very magical. We were looked after by super friendly staff and the meal was absolutely amazing with plenty of veggie options. I went for the peanut and mushroom roast which was divine. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful 500 year old Inn.

What a hidden gem this place is! A beautiful, traditional interior, full of character and featuring the most spectacular fireplace. The pub had been beautifully decorated for Christmas, creating a wonderful and cosy atmosphere. The staff were so warm and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for them. The menu had a lovely, wide selection, certainly something for everyone. The food was cooked to absolute perfection. Hands down the best pub food I have ever had! Could not recommend this place more highly.

We booked in advance and I had high expectations for the Sunday lunch. However, it was disappointing. The choice was limited and the food l received was bland. I have never had roast beef served in trips rather than sliced. A good variety of sides but everything very plain and boiled. Even the gravy was unremarkable and scarce. However, all served with a smile and the log fire was lovely.

Beautiful pub in a very quiet village. Hearty Sunday Lunch. The Cauliflower Cheese is to die for. Fantastic value for money. Will be returning for sure. Staff also very attentive and noting is too much. 10 out of 10. Very homely experience which is hard to find these days.

This little gem of a pub is amazing!!! It's only small but this adds to the character of the place! The owners Nigel and Dafydd are lovely and make you feel so welcome! And the best part is the food is sooo good and totally worth every penny! Cannot recommend this place enough! Go for a hike in the local area and then stop by the Black Lion for a well earned pint and some food! I recommend the mixed grill!
