Black Sand Cabins - Piha

Spectacular. We stayed at Black Sands Lodge for 4 nights in December. Loved every minute of it. So near the beach. Very comfortable. Lovely helpful owners. Only warning: access to Piha Beach is steep and windy. If you arrive at night drive very carefully. Anne Perry

First: the location is fantastic, mere minutes from the beach by foot. Close enough (and quiet enough) that you can fall asleep the sound of the waves at night. Parking is ample, the hosts are really wondeful and very knowledgeable about the area. The rooms are well appointed, the queen bed is very comfortable, and the shower runs plenty hot. An utterly incredible location matched with equally great accommodations. Pro-tip: the Piha store is pretty small and expensive. Make good use of the fridge at Black Sands lodge and bring in your groceries from Auckland.

Private and close to beach. Good off road parking and the hosts are really nice. Missed the last star because a few minors - the bathroom in the Kauri unit is downstairs (bit of a challenge if you have mobility issues), a cracked toilet (water integrity still ok but unnerving...), bedroom window opening onto the neighbours deck and a stain on the pillow case. Overall a great place to stay and we had a lovely weekend.

Great location walking distance to the beach but set back in the beautiful bush. Full equip kitchen with everything that you need if you want to cook. Lovely place to hang out even on a rainy weekend.
