Made a resy after having survived working through the weekend snow storm. Treated ourselves to an amazing meal. Our server Emma was wonderful. She was warm and attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. We tried a bunch of items and were very happy with all the offerings tonight. Jersey Mule to start. Lobster Roll - Warm off the happy hour menu, delicious. Steamed Mussels were a fav with the Dijon cream sauce. Amazing! Roasted Bone Marrow with mushrooms marsala, garlic toast was flavorful, fatty and rich. Just what the doctor ordered. Salt and Vinegar Shrimp were light and the capers remoulade was a nice dipping option. Mortadella Skewer with whipped Ricotta, pistachio pesto was a fun play on fried bologna. We enjoyed it very much. Cream Puff with caramel and chocolate drizzle was a great way to top off the evening. Everything was wonderful and will be back to try the next menu!

This is our second time at this charming restaurant. Both times the food has been really good. We started with a yummy Rose and a beer. We then ordered a scallop crudo which was very good and flavorful! I then ordered the branzino which was roasted whole with potatoes and a spicy sauce. It was really yummy. My husband ordered a boneless rib eye with rosemary fries! It was very well cooked. We ended with an olive oil cake which was good but I think could have been better. It was a bit dense and but super flavorful. But overall we had a fabulous meal! I would highly recommend it. We went back for another yummy meal!

First time visiting and we definitely will be back. We ordered a ton, and everything was outstanding. Highlights were the squash rings, chicken wings, the little pizza, and the pasta. If I had to give one piece of criticism I would say the music could have been a bit louder, they have an amazing playlist going! One of the best meals we have had in NJ.

This is a special place! Fantastic meal from start to finish. Beautifully presented, thoughtfully prepared and just simply delicious food. The service is also top notch. My only small complaint is that it’s a bit cramped inside and hard to navigate when it gets busy. Highly recommend and will be back!

Food was so delicious and everyone was so kind and the service was so fast. Our server Marc was very attentive and checked on us very often. Creative dishes with unique taste. The beef tartare was delicious. Connor, Artie and Avalon were great and so kind to us. Will definitely be coming back!

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a couple weeks but our meal at Black Sheep was not only delicious but memorable because of the customer service provided by Kyle. He was so personable and gave such great recommendations after hearing what we were considering and made some suggestions that we would’ve missed if he didn’t mention it!! The drinks were top notch (Limoncello Spritz and an old fashioned), the apps were yum (fried olives and some of the best wings around and a salad that I’m still dreaming about!) mains included lobster rolls and risotto and we rounded it off with a perfect slice of olive oil cake and gelato! 10/10 for everything and can’t wait to go back and try more!

Modern eatery with awesome an Happy Hour menu. Ripper hot dog was made deluxe with chili and whipped mozzarella topping. Calabria chili wings & drumsticks are a must, perfect char on exterior in the succulent chicken. Lobster Roll had nicely toasted Brioche bun and mayo blend flavoring. Mai Tai was perfectly balanced in the sweet rum and refreshing citrus.

I'm only giving a 4 star because out of what we ordered, the shrimp was overcooked and honestly no flavor at all. The Tuna Crudo is a MUST have, the wings were very flavorful as were the Garlic fries. Laugh at this but EVEN the ketchup had an amazing taste, we ordered a second batch of it for our fries. We went on a Tuesday evening for some shareables and drinks and it was crowded. A reservation would definitely be needed if you don't want to miss out, the place is very small. My boyfriend felt a bit rushed (the food did come out in a matter of minutes) but overall, it was a good experience.

1st time here as 'Black Sheep,' I used to come here routinely when it was 'Rosie's.' Small to medium venue with an upscale feeling vibe, but you can still be casual here and not feel judged. No parking out front, parking around back and a cut through to the front. Service was friendly and at a good pace. We had the Lobster Roll & Butcher's Cut Grilled Cheese, which the cheese changes periodically so ask before ordering. We also upgraded the frittes to the Rosemary which comes with rosemary on it & a garlic aioli dipping sauce. Everything was amazing! Mad it took me so long to come back. Black Sheep has become my most favorite local restaurants! Love the daily menus! Best cocktails! Love everything we have ordered so far! Server Joao needs to be commended! He was extremely courteous! Attentive and knows menu well! Thanks for the peach pie recommendation.

Last night my wife and our two friends went to Black Sheep. This is my 6th time coming here and I LOVE this place. The music isn't too loud, lighting is great, service is A+.. I did have one issue though, on the menu they state to call in advance of your arrival if you want a particular cut of meat that is not on the menu. I called Monday asking for two cuts of the "Kansas City" which is a bone in NY Strip. I've had this cut about 2/3 times while at Black Sheep and the cost was usually $75-$85 per steak. I get into Black Sheep and we are greeted by Ted our server who did an AMAZING job. He said table for 4 reservation, and I see you have two T-Bone steaks ordered. I was worried because I said Kansas City on the phone. He went to the kitchen and said that the T-bone was the same as the Kansas City, so I said, "okay that's fine". Assuming they had just changed the name. We order our drinks two mules, appetizers, and two non-alcoholic spritz for the wives who are not drinking. Nothing short of awesome. Our wives ordered the burgers, which they thought were great and the garlic aioli Fries which they said were A+ The steaks come out with our sides of sweet potato + brussels Sprouts which were tasty We have dessert, olive oil cake, chocolate puffs, peppermint and graham cracker ice cream. All of which were great to taste and share around the table. I receive the bill and saw that the "Kansas City" steaks or otherwise the T-Bone steaks are $165 per steak. I was shocked, this added on an additional $200 to our entire bill going from $425-$450 to $624. Now you are sitting here saying "well it's your fault for eating it", look I paid and didn't give one complaint to our server at all. I am coming here today to just say that when you call them for steaks MAKE SURE YOU GET THE PRICING OF THE STEAK PRIOR TO THEM RESERVING IT. This is not a knock-on owner/cook, waiter/waitresses/hostess/hostesses, there had to be some kind of miscommunication between hostess and I when I originally called. I take partial blame here. Black Sheep is one of, if not my favorite restaurants and a place my wife and I go for big anniversaries and date nights + bringing new friends and introducing them here. We will continue to go here, but I would hope that if I ask for a Kansas City I will get a Kansas City cut and not something that is $90-$100 over on price. Just be careful if you want to order the steaks and be mindful of the pricing (ask them so there is no miscommunication). I give Black Sheep a 5-star review regardless of what happened last night and will be going there again in the future for sure.

Some 5 star dishes - some dishes could be improved It was wonderful to vist a crowded and creativite restaurant in Garwood. The Chicken Liver Mousse and Brown Sugar Budino were highlights. The Gnocchi Sardi was also very good. The Sour Cream & Onion and Cream Puff could be improved. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant. Even though I indicated that we were celebrating a birthday when I made my reservation on RESY, I had to ask the server to but a candle on one of our desserts before it was served. The room is comfortable and the service was attentive.

We had booked via Resy for our anniversary dinner, overall space is cute has a new American vibe but felt a bit cramped too. Usually when you mention special occasions on resy restaurants treat you a bit extra but we didn't see that happening, though of course we had kids which I looked around wasn't common for a Wednesday weeknight. Given the name I expected a few pork dishes but unfortunately they were out of pork ribs . The menu is quite short, but he drinks were ok. We ordered a pasta, a few seafood dishes including sea bass, the drinks were good, kids loved the pasta, the squash rings and smashed potatoes, while I enjoyed the risotto, portion size was smaller. The desserts tiramisu was ok but budino almost like flan but not quite was very interesting. Overall great food, a bit pricey overall wish the service and menu gets a bit better

Another great review- that is well deserved. I haven't seen gnocchi on the menu in a while unfortunately, but the pastas are always solid and you can split an entree portion into two and just enjoy as appetizers as well. The chicken Milanese is consistently crispy and juicy inside, I tried their fois gras (not on the menu often!) which was excellent. Seared perfectly, creamy inside- on a moist piece of cornbread that might be one of the juiciest cornbreads I've ever had, with an apple type jam on top. The combo was unique. I also had a mortadella pizzette with ricotta lemon which came with kitchen shears to cut your own sized slices. For me, it was big enough to be a main even though it was an appetizer. The fries are excellent - crispy with a delicious aioli and parm on top. Love that the menu changes daily. It's always a new experience

A few of the bar staff think the world revolves around them but I have nothing bad to say about the mixologist that took care of me. The happy hour food menu is solid. Fried olives 4.0/5.0 and wings 4.0/5.0. The draft beer was cold and the margs were tasty. I'm a huge fan.

Our waiter Mark was exceptional. The restaurant is very aesthetic and I love the vibe. We ate the mussels and oysters. I preferred the mussels but my partner preferred the oysters. The mussels are in a delicious creamy white wine sauce. We also got the orecchiete and chicken milanese. The milanese was delicious.

I was absolutely floored by Black Sheep! From the dimly lit, gorgeous ambience to the immaculate service, to the incredible food-- absolutely a place worth checking out. The cocktails were absolutely delicious; well-balanced and made super well. There's a mix of classics and more innovative drinks. I had a sort of Sazerac which was divine. The food was also incredible. We started with scallops with pork belly and wow. Absolutely delicious. We ordered a steak for two and it was one of the best I've had in the area. They partner with local butcher shop DeRosa so their meats are really good quality. We also ordered broccolini on the side which was super good. Risotto with crab was unreal. The tiramisu at the end was also SO GOOD. All in all, one of the best dinners I've had in awhile and would absolutely 100% return.

Very nice addition. I like coming for drinks. Beautiful interior. I forget if I liked the food but it wasn't memorable.

My first time here and everything was delicious! The ambiance is very nice, gives off a NYC vibe with their menu as well. Server was able to give good recommendations as well as specials to choose from. You can tell everything is fresh. Loved the stracciatella and hot sopresatta with the fresh, grilled bread. On the pricier side so good for a special occasion.

Burger was fantastic. That's what I went there for during the lunch time. I assume evenings are busy. Bar area seemed very cool.

Went for an anniversary celebration and they really made sure to make it special. The bartender was playing host and gave a round of champagne for the table. The food was all very delicious and our waiter was wonderful. I would love to try the steak next time since I was told that's where they shine here.

Been looking forward to trying Black Sheep for a few months and finally went in NYE. We had a 8pm reservation and were sat on time at a high top. The vibe inside was modern and dark, and they have a cool bar. Our server was good and knowledgeable about the menu. For apps we had the squash rings and mussels. I had the steak with Rojas salsa for dinner and my wife had the lobster pasta. All pasta is made fresh in house. Overall the food had great flavors and you can tell everything is super fresh. Drinks were well crafted as well.

3.5 stars / review for happy hour only. I stopped by for happy hour and enjoyed catching up with friends over drinks and small plates. This is a nice, elevated bar restaurant serving up a fun, seasonal menu of global bites. My group tried a variety of the snacks and unanimously loved the fried olives and pizzette so much that we ordered a second round of the two! Both were delicious. We were less excited about the dry aged brisket (very small portion and not memorable) and the baked brie (surprisingly a bit hard and dry), so we'd skip on those two next time. Food overall is on the pricey end, but service was attentive and we enjoyed the ambiance. I'd recommend making a reservation for Friday evenings because every table was filled by the time we left!

Came here for lunch... its a cool spot, and service is really friendly. And it has parking in the back. Despite all that, I'm only giving it 3 stars because I didn't love the food. Ordered the colorado lamb lunch dish. Now I'm usually a huge lamb fan and basically almost always like any lamb based dish. This is the first time I have not enjoyed lamb. It taste more like liver to me than lamb for some reason. And its a fairly thin slice, breaded/ fried. I actually preferred the veggies covering it. Tried some of the soft shell crab sandwich special, which was definitely better than the lamb, although I wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce they used. I did really enjoy the fries though.

Nice bar. Well stocked. Burger was tasty and done as ordered but dry as there was no lettuce or tomato to add moisture. Bun was also dry; maybe a day or two old. Fries were way over cooked; getting close to black and hard. My coke was flat. Too bad. I was expecting a better execution.

Cute restaurant with a good cocktail/wine menu. I had the day special which was fish and chips and the fish was nice and fresh and chips had a good crunch just the way I like them! We also had the delicate squash rings which I've never had before but they were so yummy. Will definitely go back!

My girls and I love us some black sheep! The drinks are so spot on, always well balanced. I've had the fried lamb chops, pork chop and skirt steak. All very good! But I must say the burger is my favorite! It's just sooo good along with the fries. Even the ketchup which is made in house. The vibe in here is always good, we love sitting out doors during the good weather. You can catch a nice sunset out doors during the summer days. Can't wait!

Came here in a group of 6. First time. I have to say that all the servers were very attentive & knowledgeable. John was ours and he was fantastic. Never pushy & no one rushed us out after we had finished our desserts. I was asked if I wanted a new cloth napkin less than 2 seconds after mine fell onto the floor. Parking was simple in the adjoining lot and the interior decor was attractive but not intimidating or overwhelming. Everything was clean & even the bathroom was quite attractive with the plants & design! We took advantage of the happy hour for our initial drinks & apps. Amazing presentation with each item- food & drinks included. Unique large ice cubes in the Old Fashioned. Definitely some novel creations on this menu that we adventurously tried out. Fried olives & the creative delicata squash rings (think onion rings but with yes, with squash) we're two we tried & they were pretty good. I had the Colorado Lamb which was a flattened & fried lamb cutlet with feta cheese, tomato, cucumbers & a mint leaf. It was good but my first time with a lamb cutlet so I really didn't get the lamb taste that I love in a grilled piece of lamb but the cucumber topping was delicious. I tried the skirt steak (excellent) as well as the dark meat braised chicken (Aldo very good). Though it can be a little pricey for dinner out in this area, Black Sheep doesn't disappoint & I'm certain we'll be back.

Nice fresh food here and awesome seasonal specials. We sat at a high top near the bar, only problem with this the bar was getting busy and my chair kept getting knocked into as it's the kitchen walkway a bit of a tight squeeze even after moving all the way in. Opt for the low tables!

This just became one of my fav restaurants. Parking lot behind the restaurant. Nice spot. I love the bar. Service is great The food is awesome! They constantly change their menus which i love. I can't wait to go back and try new dishes.

Great (relatively) new spot right across from Shoprite. The space is cozy and well utilized. All the tables were taken on a Thursday night. There is ample parking in the lot at the back of the restaurant. We decided to do family style and tried a dish from each section of the menu. The Stracciatella and Wagyu Skirt Steak were the stand outs. Love the seasoning on the steak and it was cooked perfectly. For dessert, the sea salt budino was perfection. On the flip side, I wish the roasted bone marrow was roasted a bit longer with more caramelization on top. Also thought the salad was overdressed despite asking for light dressing. Overall, the food was very good in general and would definitely love to try other items on the menu. The service was fantastic, attentive without being overbearing. I asked for a cocktail not on the menu and they obliged without any issues. Can't wait to come back again.

We got a nice quiet table and enjoyed a wonderful meal. We split the wedge salad that had a really nice blue cheese dressing. Plenty of blue cheese. Then we split the rigatoni and the malfadine pasta dishes which were delicious and the garlic shrimp also delicious. Wine was good and the gelato finished off a nice meal. Excellent service. We will be back.

Forget the food is amazing, forget they have a special source for some of the best steak I've ever had, forget they have attentive and friendly service, ignore it is a beautiful space, and disregard amazing mixed drinks and bartenders. We had family lunch (with reservations of course) for a dozen and had a simply wonderful time. All requests were met and all exceeded.

This is one of the better restaurants in the area. Menu was very innovative and balanced. Everything was delicious, portions were good but not overly generous. Ordering delicious sides was a good strategy. Staff were very courteous and competent. In colder months the seating is limited due to unavailability of outdoor seating. We were seated 10 minutes late but management was extremely sympathetic and did their best to move things along. Deserts were marvelous and too good. It's a small but modern space but we felt very comfortable. We will not hesitate to return.

Ambience is comfortable without pretension. Noise level is loud and not for the hard of hearing. Service was well handled and fairly prompt. Waiter suggested we might want to share an appetizer - we decided to split the Bucatini al pesto. A delicious sauce clung nicely to the pasta. Dividing it up was a bit of a challenge - tongs would be helpful. I had a caesar-dressed spinach salad followed by the steamed mussels . The mussels were large and perfectly cooked - this is listed as an appetizer but the portion is large enough to serve as a main course. With a broth of white wine and dijon cream this is a dish to dream about - 5 stars all the way. One of my two companions had the chicken paillard - excellent and again the portion was generous. The other had the F.A. DeRosa beef burger (if you are not familiar with them, DeRosa is the Westfield Beef Butcher), again deemed excellent. I'll be back, hopefully to try something else from their menu, though it's going to be hard to resist the temptation to revisit the mussels. Afterthought - please consider putting a Malbec on the wine list.

Once arriving for our reservation we noticed that it was a busy night. Besides having to wait ten minutes for reservation we were early to that would be the only negative. It was loud but nothing that we had to yell over each other to converse. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive. He asked if it was our first time dining there, he thanked took the time to explain the menu to us. Started with our drinks a red blend and the Boulevardier. We ordered the Suckling Pig Croquets, Grilled Soppressata Skewer, Loaded Red Potatoes and The House Salad. The best thing we ordered was the house salad. Not saying everything else was bad but the salad took the cake. Finished off the evening with the eclair and a double espresso. We shall return to try more items from the menu.

Absolutely amazing. We went on a double date here and thoroughly enjoyed every single dish and drink. Apps we got : tuna, octopus, mussels, beet salad, and I forget the name of the two in the picture Entrees; steak, scallops, burger Great beer and wine selection. It's a great atmosphere and amazing food- it would be highly rated even if it was located in the city.

The food was phenomenal, cocktails were good, and our server was excellent, but the place was so chaotic! We had a 8.30 pm reservation on a Saturday, but when we got there we were told to wait at the bar until a table opened up. We did get seated about 15 minutes later, but at a high top and not a table which is what we reserved. We took it as we didn't want to wait any longer, but it was in a very busy corner with folks from the bar area constantly bumping into us. It was also not fun to have someone on staff standing inches from our table looking right at us and wiping glasses while we ate. Recommend going on a week night instead.

We went to dinner on a Friday night and the place was jumping. The food and service were terrific and would definitely go back. My husband ordered the venison and I had the steak both dishes were very tasty, we also shared an appetizer of mussels. My only criticism was my entree was unexpectedly saucy which was not mentioned the description.

Had dinner tonight at 4:00pm with my 2 friends. The waiter kept up charging everything we wanted to order and suggested something more expensive .We ordered from the happy hour menu. The food was delicious but very over priced. It feels that the waiter seemed like he got commission from the amount of food we ordered. When the bill came two drinks were not priced from-the happy hour menu. When we addressed the waiter about the problem he only corrected one and seemed annoyed.

This is my favorite local restaurant. From my experience, there isn't one bad thing I could say about them. I sampled a variety of different cocktails, and they were all delicious. Our server was extremely knowledgeable on the menu, and even gave great recommendations based on our preferences. The steak was seasoned well, and cooked to perfection. The price was very reasonable considering the high quality service, delicious drinks, and tasty food. The atmosphere around dinner time was excellent as well, definitely recommend!

The service is excellent. The cocktails are also excellent. The food is very good. In general, this is a great place for dinner and drinks. Recommendations needed for those wanting a table. If you want dinner at the bar, arrive early. If you're thinking about going you should do it.

Came here on a busy Saturday night and was absolutely impressed. Everything we had was unbelievable delicious and the service was great. The price point is very reasonable, especially for the quality of food. We will definitely be back!

Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like since the pandemic, the quality of food has dropped across the board at mid to high end restaurants. Also, the value you get for the money you spend and restaurant going experiences have not been what they used to be. At Black Sheep, the quality of the food matched what I'd expect from a great restaurant pre covid. Everything we ordered was outstanding, cooked perfectly, and beautiful. I cannot say enough good things. Entrées portions were also so huge that I took food home. I literally cannot wait to come back to Black Sheep. Based on the limited availability of reservation, it seems like a lot of people feel the same way. We had the best time with some good friends. We all greatly enjoyed our meals and drinks. Parking is also a breeze unlike in downtown Cranford or Westfield. I'm happy to see downtown Garwood get a really great lunch and dinner spot.

Nice interios. Good service. We started with delicata squash rings as a starter. They were very good - came out nice and hot. Liked the honey and the remoulade. I had the swordfish for my main. It was hot and had nice drizzle sauce with spinach and sweet potatoes. My husband had the burger. It has a very nice sear - almost too much. My husband thought if they could pull that back just a tad it would be perfect. Good fries came with the burger. We tried the chocolate torte for dessert. Nice vanilla ice cream and whipped cream came with the torte but my husband didn't like the texture of the torte itself. Was alittle grainy. Overall, very enjoyable meal and with a few tweaks, could be perfection. We will definitely come back.

Best restaurant in the area! Love the ambiance and quality of food- it could easily be a place in Manhattan. The pastas and cocktails are stand outs, especially the gnocchi and martini. The service is always great too. Highly recommend.

Great new neighborhood spot. The food was very flavorful and the drinks were a 10/10. Great selection of cocktails . This place just opened but service was excellent they got it all figured out. Can't wait to come back and try more things.

First time trying this place. Employees were very Nice and cocktails were good. We ordered a couple appetizers that I am not particular with. They were ok, but again they wouldn't be my number one picks, but the lady gets what she wants and I was ok with them. The goose liver pate was good and the honey nut squash gnocchi was ok, but not my taste. I feel like the items I would've picked would have been really good. I will be back to give it a more of a shot with items I want.

Overpriced. Food was ok but not great. Potatoes were cool and lumpy. Lasagna was ok but nothing to brag about. Their Chardonnay selection could be improved and beer was sub par. We will not be back. Lorenzo's in Garwood is better.
