Went there for dinner with a large group, and everyone walked out happy. This is located in the popular Willow Glen area with a lot of nice restaurants surrounding it. Parking was difficult, and we had to park couple hundred feet away. I got a general tonic for my drink, but few people had the special cocktails and they liked. We started with the oysters and they were very fresh and did not feel overly oceany. The skillet with shrimp was amazing, and the sauce was extremely well done. They brought some house made for focaccia bread and it went extremely well with the sauce. The burrata was okay, but nothing to write home about. The charcuterie board was very good as well. For my mains, I got the duck breast which was cooked, medium, rare, and accompanied with broccolinis, carrots, and sautéed asparagus. Overall, a great dish. Some of my colleagues had the pasta, and it was humongous. That definitely not skimping on the potion sizes here. I also had the classic French onion soup, and it was very well made with nice beef flavour. I finished the dinner with affogato and somehow the coffee wasn’t very hot, which is how I like my affogato. The service was quick. The ambience was okay, but again did not particularly stand out for me.

Delicious lamb, perfectly cooked and flavorful! The dinner was good and the cozy, upscale atmosphere at Black Sheep Brasserie made for a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend! Delicious dessert aswell.

We were genuinely delighted by our experience at Black Sheep Brasserie, which exceeded our expectations in every way. Chef Nataneal’s cast iron-seared duck breast, paired with his signature sauce that takes four days to prepare (WOW) , was nothing short of extraordinary. The depth of flavor and the skillful execution made such an impression on us that we felt compelled to meet the chef in person to extend our compliments. In addition to the duck, we savored the rack of lamb accompanied by grilled leeks and green beans. We were pleasantly surprised to discover just how delicious grilled leeks could be—this dish was yet another testament to Chef Nataneal’s culinary prowess. The dill-infused sauce beautifully tied the entire plate together, enhancing the flavors and elevating the dining experience. Before indulging in these remarkable main courses, we began our meal with a delightful duck liver pâté, served with red pickled onions and mustard seeds, accompanied by crispy crostini. This appetizer set the stage for the culinary journey that followed. Overall, this meal felt like it belonged in the realm of Michelin-star establishments, with an impressive focus on quality, taste, and presentation. Each bite—from the expertly cooked protein to the thoughtfully crafted side dishes—reflected Chef Nataneal’s passion and dedication. We must also commend our server, Stephanie, whose attentiveness and friendliness made our evening even more enjoyable. What a fantastic night!

Then the guy says "and when we're wrapped up here, we'll all go to the Black Sheep Brassiere for an Amazing dinner" Well, we came down to San Jose to see the final preliminaries in Anaconda John's Squirt-O-Rama at the Applehead Auditorium, and sure didn't expect a dinner! I've always wanted to go to the Black Sheep Brassiere, because I've heard nothing but great things about the place, and those things were right...the food was Amazing! 5 stars all day long. ☆☆☆☆☆

Google
Delicious meal that is upscale but still reasonably priced considering the quantity and quality of food you're getting. Ordered a smattering of dishes from snails, oysters, cheese plate for appetizers. Each one was very light delicate, not large portion size but still filling and very flavorful. The entrees on the other hand were the star of the show. Big portions, proteins executed to perfection and the 38 North Duck Breast is absolutely to die for. Huge whole duck breast, perfectly cooked medium rare, crispy crackling skin, soft tender meat but juicy despite the lean cut. Would come back solely for that dish. Desserts were also impeccable with traditional French preparations. Croissant bread pudding, chocolate pudding, Apple tart. Each one very unique but well executed in preparation. Service was very friendly and food came pretty quickly. Was able to make a same day reservation without trouble for 4 people and the restaurant is quite large. Parking lot outside makes it easy to not have to hunt for parking in downtown San Jose but we did take the last parking spot so try to come a little early just in case.

The food is good and well plated. Everything is cooked to perfection. There is a large choice of wine. The service is excellent. They provide a main waiter, but many others contribute to the service. The place is warm, calm but needs some remodeling.

Google
The beet salad was very tasty. Steak was flavored well just portion size was very small. The bread pudding had more of a fruit flavor rather than rum and Raisins that I'm used to. But it was a nice twist very rich.

Good food, good food and great service. Has own parking lot next to restaurant. Limited spots though.

Yelp
I love this place! I come here often for special occasions. The service is great and the food is amazing. The prices have increased, and the portions are much smaller than they used to be, but this has been happening at all restaurants I've been to lately. With that being said, the food quality and the service is still outstanding and completely worth it.

Yelp
The past is a foreign country. And, alas, so is the old pre-Stacks BSB. Under new management both front and back of house appear to have changed. The front is polite and knowledgeable but understaffed. Appetizers and the kiddo's meal came quick but the adult entrees were slow. The food's decent but it's not really bistro-style anymore. Menu's unfocused. And the cocktails don't seem as good as they once were, even their headline ones. Plus, what's with the bread disappearing? new management doesn't seem to know what they want with the place now, especially with a completely different menu for breakfast. Maybe they should just completely overhaul? Saturday evening in October and the restaurant is a third empty after 6 PM. Guess it's a sign.

Yelp
Came back to Black Sheep for a birthday dinner recently. Every favorite menu item was changed for the worse unfortunately. No more Manresa bread, pate quantity shrunk in size with a completely different presentation, and we couldn't even finish the French onion soup. The service was friendly though, but the food did not make up for it. On top of it all, they did not honor gift cards from the previous owners. They said that the old owners transferred the gift cards to the new owners but somehow ours was not being accepted. A completely disappointing night out at Black Sheep. Two stars for the friendly service, but that's about it.

Yelp
This is a bit awkward to write. A friend and I came because she had some gift cards. That was the ONLY reason we chose to treat ourselves to a special night and come here. We had a nice meal- each a glass of wine (mine must've been the bottom of the bottle because it had a ton of sediment in it when I finished), split the focaccia- flaky salt was delicious on top but I'd say it was an average filler. We also split the beet salad (this I recommend) and the pappardelle pasta (needed more salt/seasoning and some fresh grated Parmesan- average). The server didn't come back once after we'd started in on our food, otherwise I would've ask for some salt. The bussers were attentive to clean up our dishes though. But then the bill came and we put out our gift cards that totaled $100. They said no, we couldn't use them. The manager came over repeating the same thing. He said we could use them at a Mexican restaurant with a different name in Mountain View. Mind you, these say black sheep brasserie on them. He brought up the purchase of the restaurant and the beef with the previous owner handing them this debt of the gift cards. Frankly, it is none of the customers business. When you acquire a business, you also acquire their debt. And it shouldn't be on the customer to take responsibility of that for you. It was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable. I feel for the new owner but it seemed very unprofessional and uncomfortable. He said he could give us $25 off for the $100 cards. What?! No way. He offered us an additional drink and we said no because we were driving and had already had one. We asked if we could get $25 off and keep that cards (will attempt to return to Costco) He said he'd call the prior owner but didn't want to because they had beef (so awkward to be telling us). This was a back and forth of about 15 minutes. He ended up agreeing to our request of $25 off and then we'd keep the cards. It was like we had to really twist his arm for that. Oof- it was so awkward and frustrating- really changed the mood of the evening. I feel for him but it is on him to acquire whatever debt from previous owner- no business of customers. Also this information about the gift cards should be posted on the restaurant website, on the front window- everywhere. It's so awkward for a customer to go through an entire meal to then find out.

Yelp
IMHO Good food, nice server, slow service. Our starters included a dozen Miyagi oysters ($46), House made Focaccia ($6), Duck Liver Pate ($17), and Beet salad ($17), and Butternut Squash soup $$14. The guys enjoyed their oysters. The focaccia was super flavorful and yummy. I liked the liver pate, but I felt it should've been softer to cut and spread on the tiny pieces of crostini. Beet salad was good but needed more goat cheese for my liking. Our entrees were the Duck breast ($49), Mussels & Clams ($30), Halibut special ($39), and the BSB Double burger w/Truffle fries ($25). No complaints here, except for the truffle fries. They were over fried and crunchy. I like a softer fry to bite into. I left a majority of the fries uneaten. These "truffle" fries didn't taste any different than regular fries, so I don't understand the truffle part of it. For dessert, we opted for the Chocolate Mousse ($13), and the Vanilla Panna Cotta ($13). The chocolate mousse was served in a small brandy snifter...the ratio of mousse to whipping cream was ridiculous. If you're going to advertise a chocolate mousse, the snifter should be filled 3/4 full with 1/4 whipped cream topping, not the other way around. This was my first panna cotta, and the portion was more equitable than the mousse. I didn't taste any vanilla, but it was okay. Service was slow due to the fact that our server was responsible for our whole room. Not her fault. Pluses: there is a dedicated parking lot for patrons. In the morning, the restaurant becomes Stacks for breakfast fare! Will I return? Maybe.

Yelp
I've come here before several months ago. The food was good, and the service was up to par hence why I chose to come back here for a special occasion. We got here a little earlier for your typical dinner. The ambiance was good. Servers bustling about, and patrons chatting. The volume of the place was comfortable. The food: overall, the food was good, not great. I wasn't blown away but I was pleased ultimately. We got the focaccia, duck liver, duck, and pork chops. Everything was up to par. The duck was a bit overcooked but it's not uncommon for it to come out a little more done than requested. The star of the show was the duck liver. The mustard, onions, jam, and liver really came together in a lovely way. Well done on the pairings. Service was great. Our goal with this visit was to be able to sit down for a meal without being rushed and we were able to. Great service with the entire staff helping out and our server coordinating things masterfully. A lot of places in the bay love to rush folks, here wasn't the case. Well done! Overall, the food was good, and service was great. They've changed the menu so a lot of the items on Yelp are no longer available (beignet, manresa bread, etc). That was frustrating and disappointing but hey, can't stifle change I guess. Except, bring back the beignet please! Would recommend to anyone looking for a good dinner where you won't be rushed and can enjoy your wine and meal.

Yelp
The service was top-notch here. When I do reviews, I would weigh more heavily on the food as that is what makes the place for me. They were extremely attentive during the whole time I was there. The ambiance, was very dimlight, which I like as a more intimate dinner setting. Let's get into the food. This was my second time here and the last time was about 2 years or so ago. I felt as though their food was much better. This time it was quite a disappointment. I ordered quite a bit of food this time since I was with my family. My favorite dish out of them was the risotto and the Duck. I would not add the scallops since it felt as though they weren't as fresh and were relatively small for the extra 45 dollars. The striped bass was the best bang for your buck since the plate was overflowing with food compared to the other dishes. Since we had to order the bread I was extremely disappointed since the bread was extremely hard and I had a feeling that it was stale/old. The French fries or Pommes Frites were not golden brown enough for my taste. This meal was quite disappointing for the price I had to pay for it. Maybe it was an off day for them, even though it was a Friday. I believe they could do a lot better for the price you will be paying.

Yelp
Come to celebrate a birthday or a girls night out at Black Sheep like we did! My bets are you will not be disappointed. Located right in the heart of Willow Glen with inside or outside seating, this will soon become your new favorite! The service was so high class, & maybe the best service I have ever received. Everything came out timely, we were given wine suggestions & proper tastings, excellent suggestions for dinner options aside from specials, & lovely commentary. Everything we ordered was nothing less than perfection. Some fabulous favorites were: - Gnocchi: although a small plate, very filling. The sauce is savory; it should be canned & sold. - Burger: sounds "middle of the road," however the beef is so delicious you'll want to come back every Friday. - Chocolate Mousse: paired with the beignets, this small but mighty dessert will offer your tastebuds everything they don't know they needed in the chocolate department. I was very impressed with the wine selection. Of course they have your standard picks of Cabernets & Chardonnays, but they make it very easy to explore new & tasty wines without spending an arm & and a leg. Black sheep has been on my list for a while & I am so glad I finally was able to come!

Yelp
Sheep Throat The same team that brought us Cin Cin, Lexington House, and Le Mouton Noir (RiP) is a decidedly French Bistro that's been going strong for nearly eight years now (ca. 2015). They've put up some impressive stats, including several Zagat recommendations and multiple "Best of" awards by local publications The Metro & San José Mercury News. With all those awards, why did it take me--the towniest of townies--so long to come try them? Who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The Good: *Fantastic service that's almost on-par with the type of service you'd get at a Michelin-starred eatery. *Pet-friendly outdoor space w/ heaters *Great drink menu with some creative and tasty libations *Manresa baguette is a must-order--especially if you order the scallops but more on that in a second. *Pan-Seared Hokkaido Scallops were utterly fantastic. Great sear on the scallops, which were fresh and delicious, and the concomitant sauce was set, spicy, and so moreish--note this is where the baguette comes in handy to sop up the rest of the sauce. *The Crispy Skin Salmon was just as advertised, and cooked perfectly. The accompanying veggies were a bit on the boring side, but overall, the dish was good, and one can't ever turn their nose at perfectly cooked fish. *Passionfruit Panna Cotta was also fantastic and had the Passionfruit flavor so perfectly that it made me think I was back in Maui. You know the tartness that hits you in the back of your mouth but hurts so goooood... *drool* The Meh: *Reservations via their website only *The pork chop was just OK, but it was slightly overcooked and seemed like a low-grade cut as it was filled with gristle and fat. It's not worth the $$ imo. Soft pass. *Dark Chocolate Pot de Créme was just OK and there was nothing to write home about. The flavor was OK, but nothing special, and the texture was a bit too firm Nowhere near as good as the one from literally right across the street. #IYKYK The Ugly: *Parking along Lincoln Ave can be a bit of a hassle. TLDR: Some fantastic hits and mediocre misses make this an interesting place. I'd definitely like to come back and try some more dishes in the future as the good definitely outweighed the bad.

Yelp
Walk-in dinner for 2 on a Friday eve 5:30pm. It's downtown Willow Glen, so the restaurant patrons reflected the neighborhood; servers knew how to charm this crowd. (Overhearing some nearby tables' interactions w one another and the wait staff was like live entertainment ) Drinks were much more well balanced compared to Braise down the street and the draft beer list was better as well. Appetizers: Wild Mushroom Bisque was decadent, Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly -- browned crispily on the outside and not too raw or soggy on the inside. Savory panna cotta was innovative. Charcuterie board was ok, star of this platter was definitely the duck liver mousse. Entrées: Cast Iron Seared 38 North Duck Breast meat was cooked excellently, but the fat and skin could have been finished crispier and longer for more of the fat flavor to lock into the meat. Marin Sun Farma Heritage 13 oz. Pork Chop was good but you could tell the pork itself was an older pig, and thus the meat could've been more tender if it was younger. The brown butter spaetzle was a delicious side accompaniment. Dessert: The house Buttermilk Beignets were very good. The Maple-Calvados Caramel sauce is made in-house and was a star dipping sauce as it was so flavorful, not just a saccharine corn syrup bomb like most mass-produced ones. Very well done! Hostess seemed checked out on our way out, she was on her phone the entire time and didn't bother looking up as guests were clearly leaving heading out the main exit for the evening; that seemed kind of odd for a place with this price point where bussers re-fold your napkin for you if it falls off your lap lol

Yelp
It's been a while since the last time I visited Black sheep Brasserie - and I swear it's better than I remembered! Service was friendly and attentive, with each dish properly coursed out and brought out in a timely manner. The cocktail menu is creative, with festive names for the holidays. I had the "Fall Spice and Everything Nice" and "Pa RumPumPum Milk Punch". Both were well balanced in terms of taste, and not overly sweet or spirit forward. The clarified milk punch had a wonderful creamy texture and the spice notes really come through The hamachi crudo was just OK. I usually LOVE hamachi crudo, but unfortunately this one did not impress. The hamachi was fishy, and did not taste fresh. However - I was thoroughly blown away by the duck! I had the 38 North Duck which is a pan seared duck breast and confit leg. I didn't have high expectations, but this dish was excellently prepared. The breast was tender and moist, flavorful, and the confit leg literally fell off the bone. I highly recommend! My dining companion had the BSB burger and loved it, saying it was a good portion and had good flavor.

Yelp
Check the latest reviews, it's a shame that black sheep has become what it is now. I would give it a 5 one year ago. I tried it again today, speechless. Seriously, change your category from modern french to American, because that's what it is now. The service is incredibly worse than before, lost all the charm. The food is also pretty meh, very average. They claimed that the chef was not changed, and I highly doubt it. Last but not least, I recommended this restaurant to my friend for her birthday, the restaurant didn't offer any good gestures about it, which was not the case before the owner was changed. Very disappointed and definitely not recommended.

Yelp
tbh i was not wowed in any way but the food was still good. we got their bread and cutter which i do not recommend. their bread tastes stale and it was so hard to eat. we also got the hamachi crudo (7/10), sautéed mashrooms (surprisingly good, 8.5/10), 38th north duck 7.5/10, risotto with scallops (8/10), and the baja striped bass (6/10). my favorite was the risotto, i never has risotto like that and the scallops were pretty big. we also ordered the french onion soup but they forgot our order so we ended up cancelling it but they offered it togo on the house. so i got to try it later. idk if it's bc i ate it hours later but i did not really like their french onion soup very much :/ our server was really attentive and welcoming. great service. the ambiance was really nice as well. very cute date spot or just a family dinner.

Yelp
My friend and I came here to celebrate her birthday! We wanted to find a fancy place to dress up at. First impression, the place is very nice from the entrance doorway to the candles on each table. Throughout the dinner the service was INCREDIBLE! Best service I've experienced, especially wiping down the table between the appetizer and main entree. For the service itself, it deserves a 7/5 stars. As for the food I unfortunately cannot say the same. The moules frites and onion soup disappointed me in flavor. We ordered lamb and filet mignon. Both were pretty good! We had some beignets but sadly we were not a fan of the sauce. The most standout feature of this place is the fantastic service and ambience!

Yelp
This was my second visit to BSB, and it was excellent. The food was flavorful, cooked to perfection and portioned just right. Everything was delicious. The service was very good. Our server was attentive without hovering; I asked him for a wine recommendation and he didn't have one so he asked another server to assist. Great move on his part. This was also the first time I'd had a Manhattan cocktail, which was wonderful. The atmosphere was nice. It was a warm autumn night. BSB will be the restaurant I go to maybe twice a year "just because" or when there's a special occasion. I feel like if I went more often it would degrade the specialness.
google avatar

Carlos C.

Yelp
If it was a special occasion so I decided to give this restaurant a try. The service was attentive, and the waitstaff was very friendly. The dish that stood out was the lamb. In my opinion, it was the most the star of the night. My date preferred the scallops they were just as good, but I'll always choose meat over seafood . The interior was beautifully decorated. It was simplistic and refined. loved, they had the black sheep on everywine glass, which makes the establishment stand out. The menu was small, but my experience was positive enough to go back and try something different.
google avatar

Frank L.

Yelp
Not the most creative menu ever but they generally execute well. I pretty much loved everybody I ordered. Cheese stuffed fried olives: if you like olives those is for you. So good and you don't really find fried olives anywhere. French onion soup: par for the course. Lots of cheese. Gnocchi: ok this was my least favorite dish of the night. It was solid but could be better. In my opinion, the gnocchi could be softer. They were all pretty firm. Crispy skin salmon: this was amazing. Flavors were good and don't override the salmon. The salmon itself was also wonderfully cooked. It basically melts in your mouth. It's so tender that when you try to cut it with your knife, it just breaks apart. Overall, pretty good dining experience and would prob come back some day

Yelp
TLDR: The Best Brussels Sprouts. Awesome Lamb Chops. Our meal was JUUUUUSST shy of perfection (5 stars). If I could give 4.5, I would. Normally, I would give 5 stars if a restaurant does a dish so outstanding, that I would consider it the top 2 or 3 dishes I've ever had. Their Brussels Sprouts would have done it. However, there were several flaws that pulled it from the lofty 5-star perch. First the obvious great news, their brussels sprouts were the best I've ever had. Even better than my first time having great sprouts (which was literally a revelation since before I had great sprouts, I HATED them!) I think it's the onion they roasted it with. They added a great sweet flavor. And the carmelization on the sprouts... they were bits of heaven. Even a day later, I can still taste the deliciousness. And BSB didn't even need any "tricks" like adding bacon. The sprouts stood on their own. Truly a 5-star dish. I also ordered the Lamb Chops medium. They were tender and soft. However, and this is a pre-cursor to the other complaints, it was JUUUST a bit bloodier than I would like. I would put this closer to medium rare, AND at places, rare. Still, they had great flavor, and I enjoyed the gaminess of the dish. Oh, but their ENDIVE! Again, deliciously roasted, and a bit sweet again. I don't know who prepares the veggies, but that guy is truly the star of the kitchen! Normally, I need "something" to mask the flavor of veggies so I can swallow them. Not here. The endive, I ate just on its own, and it was SO flavorful. I normally say this only about Indian cooking, but if I HAD to have a vegetarian meal, THIS PLACE would be near the top of the list. My wife ordered the Pork Chop. For much of it, it was tender and well-cooked as well. HOWEVER, near the center of the chop, it was pretty red. And as you know, pork can't be red. We had to send it back to be re-heated again. It's rare we send food back... but because the rest of the chop was delicious, my wife wanted to finish it. She also loved the sauerkraut. (Again another delicious veggie!) It was tangy yet still very flavorful. The spaetzle was ok... a bit too al-dente for my wife's liking. So that was one big flaw, and one small flaw. We also ordered the Manresa bread. It was a bit too burnt on the bottom. It had that unpleasant bitter taste. We LOVED the home-made butter though. It was smooth, and spread easily. I'm glad it wasn't "chilled" nor was it watery. It was at the perfect temperature. I just LOVE spreading butter and watch it melt into the crevices. It's too bad the bottom was burnt. I pretty much ate the top part and left the bottom crust alone. The final thing we had was the beignet. Man the BEST beignet I've had was in Seattle, by another celeb chef. I forgot the name of the place... it's in one of my older reviews if you're curious. And no, I haven't been to the birthplace of the beignet yet, but so far, Seattle was the best. So when I saw it on the BSB, I KNEW I had to try it! Beignets are rarely seen, but often desired. This was truly the great disappointment of the night. First of all, the sauce LOOKS like chocolate. And I dipped the beignet eagerly expecting that rich sweet chocolate taste. NO, it was bitter. It's some kind of caramel with brandy. And yeah, they burn off the alcohol, but it still has a bitter taste. I guess this is beignet for adults. My wife doesn't like caramel, and I don't like bitter, so we didn't touch the sauce again. As a result, even though they were powdered to high heaven with sugar, they just tasted... flat and boring. They are very fluffy though. I just wish they served it with jam, just like the ones in Seattle. Truly a disappointing end to a great and wonderful meal! The last thing I want to say is, even though our waiter was friendly, the service was SLOWWWWW as Molasses. We had 7:15p reservations, and yeah, we were late about 10 min. NBD, right? We got sat and then... just waited and waited... and waited. I think we didn't get our order down until about 7:45p. Our first course was at 8:30p, almost an hour since we sat! Even though we ordered only 4 dishes, we didn't get out until 9ish. And it wasn't like the restaurant was slammed either. I'd say it was about 60% capacity. Maybe the chefs were taking all their time getting their veggies PERFECT. I just wish they paid the same attention to detail to their meats and bread. Nevertheless, we still want to go back. If only to taste their HEAVENLY SPROUTS.

Yelp
That was the best steak tartare we've ever had anywhere. Other places make it well, but tbh, it all tastes kinda basic. Beef, egg, cornichon. But here, the contrasts of Dijon mustard, cured egg yolk with the umami of the soya sauce, and the heat of the horseradish, with the hearty but velvety tenderloin - it was just so delicious. It's evident that it's that good because while we were sitting there, the couple next to us also ordered it. And two tables around us also ordered it. Seriously, this dish has people coming back. The mesquite filet mignon was perfectly medium well and hearty. The only constructive feedback was that it could've used a little more in accompaniment, like a potato or cauliflower mash. We did have some vegetables. (We were debating on ordering the Brussels sprouts for more sustenance, but we were saving our budget to order more cocktails.) Nonetheless, we still thought the dish overall was better than Flemings. We'd order this dish again. The mussels and clams were a winner. The amount of chorizo was far more generous than other places that serve a similar dish. And usually other places do bacon or lardons, which are fatty and heavy. Here, the spiciness and smokiness of the chorizo yielded a seafood broth so delicious, we knocked it back like a soup. Ate the whole thing. Nothing was spared. All the drinks were divine and we cannot wait to come back to try more of their creations: - The Postcard from Japan was spirit forward, and surprisingly, yes, you can taste the black sesame in the whiskey. The sherry was a good addition to cut the whiskey so it's a little more approachable. - The Lincoln Ave was surprisingly spirit forward though it looked like it's all juice. I never thought of pairing bourbon with juice. (Tea, maybe. But definitely, not a fruit.) But I'm a sucker for passion fruit, and I was pleasantly surprised that it yielded a refreshing combo. - The French 75 was, in my gin-biased opinion, was the perfect cocktail for me. The elderberry is subtle but not hidden by the lemon. Distinct in flavor profile and definitely memorable. I would've ordered another but I guess I should be a responsible adult. - The Pinot Noir Côtière was a true Pinot. Light bodied, could drink on its own, yet having enough depth without getting it confused with a medium-bodied Merlot. Whoever selected the wines knew what they were doing. We really appreciated the selection. We paid our compliments to the chef. We're definitely coming back. Me and my partner are two easy going, low key type of guys. So when we were talking to the staff, we came to find out in the near future, there's a good chance they'll start doing happy hour. Hands down, we're coming back. Because those burgers and fries looked damn fine. (We're coming back though happy hour or not.) So yeah, this place got two loyal customers in us. We're excited to sit at the bar again, and chat it up with the staff too. Sorry I only posted pics of our drinks and none of what we actually ate ... but you know, we're fun like that.

Yelp
I came because I got a gift card from my sister for my birthday. We ordered drinks and appetizers and entrees, food was good... not incredible, but nice. We ordered the clams & mussels to share and asked for extra bread to dip in the sauce. We got 6 tiny crostini-like slices of a baguette to then see we were charged $6 for it at the end. Also word of caution, still water is $12. All to say that the bill was quite pricey in the end, but not to worry because I had a gift card! When it came time to pay I was informed that the ownership had changed hands and even though it was still the same restaurant, they were no longer accepting the previous gift cards. What a terrible business practice. That's $100 towards a meal I wasn't planning on being charged that night. They said the best they could do was offer $25 off the meal if we turned in the gift card to them. We agreed, and then they didn't discount the meal. There's not a chance I would ever be coming back here. Shady business practices, food was not worth the price.... Yeah. Go somewhere else for dinner.

Yelp
I'm normally not crazy about french food to be honest with you but this restaurant made me want to try more. The duck was absolutely delicious. Beef tartare was good too. they also have really great cocktails too if ur in the mood to drink. Perfect date night spot. The ambience and service are on point

Yelp
What a bummer. We've been coming here for years! It's been our "go to" for everything. We practically lived here during covid, spent many NYE's, birthdays, anniversaries, and lovely random Saturday nights. The crew was amazing. We know it's under Stack's ownership now, which is fine, but it was kind of rough tonight. First, the server was really good. I wish I kept his name. He was quick, thoughtful, remembered everything and seemed to care about our experience. My wife ordered the "seasonal fish" halibut and it came out literally raw. They took it back and cooked it, but it took a long time so we all enjoyed a cold meal. I ordered the filet mignon. While priced at $55 dollars, it was likely 4 ounces--really disappointing. Not to mention my potatoes were raw and crunchy. The cocktails seemed to have some care with them, but the negroni was super watery and had no soul. The dessert, chocolate mousse, was a total let down. More like a disappointing runny pudding Being regulars for years, it's just not the same, which is "OK", but this was a totally "meh" experience. If you buy a restaurant, one would try to make it better than they found it, and this is not the case. Attention to detail would make a difference. Used to paying $300-400 to dine here, but tonight it felt over priced and definitely not worth it. Bummed.

Yelp
I want to preface this review with the following: I have visited BSB on many occasions prior to the ownership change and had the best experiences with food, drink, and service. We went to dinner there earlier this week and it was the first time we have been in since the ownership changed and the experience has brought me out of Yelp retirement. When we walked in everything looked the same, we were seated immediately and quickly approached by our server. After some deliberation, we decided what we wanted to eat. We ordered the French onion soup ($17), seasonal fruit salad ($17), the mesquite charcoal grilled pork chop ($48), and milk punch ($17). I usually love the soup and it came out first. Unfortunately, this soup was so salty that it was barely palatable. I left more than half of it in the bowl and when the server asked if I was done with it, he did not even question the fact that there was so much left. The milk punch was delivered in typical fashion where a glass with a square ice cube is set on the table and then the drink is poured over tableside. The milk punch was by far, the highlight of my meal. It is just as good as before with the same tiki drink flavors. Next the salad and pork chop arrived. The salad was great, had peaches as the seasonal fruit along with dried cranberries and candied nuts. The pork chop itself was good, however, I went with the chef's recommendation for a medium cook and parts of it were definitely more medium rare. The sides that came with pork chop, potatoes au gratin and broccolini, were also to salty to eat. I was able to get down one bite of each before I had to stop eating them altogether. The potatoes had such potential, there was some funky cheese in there that would have made them delectable had they been salted properly. The broccolini was al dente and would have also been great had the salt been dialed WAY down. There was mention of applesauce of the menu but it seems there was just diced apples on top of the pork chop that were either flavorless or just so delicate that my palate could not discern the flavor after having my palate coated in all of the salt. I just think if you are paying this much for dishes at a restaurant, especially one that has such an amazing reputation for great food and drinks, they should be palatable at the very least. I'm not sure if someone is just really heavy handed with the salt or if they had not been tasting the food as they seasoned. I just cannot recommend going back there based on my recent experience, especially with that price tag.

Yelp
It pains me to write a bad review for BSB. This is a place we've come to for big days, birthdays, memorials, graduations, but those days I think are behind us. Apart from being much more expensive (inflation is real) it felt like BSB from the twilight zone. This place used to be packed on Friday nights, but it was at probably 10% capacity this Friday night. The menu looked different, the cocktails tasted unbalanced, and the food was disappointing. Everything (except for the fried olives) was either burnt, under seasoned, or lacked any sort of contrast or acidity. The whole dinner felt like this was a different, less experienced restaurant masquerading as BSB. It wasn't until seeing other Yelp reviews that we realized it went under new management. Now it all makes sense. It's really sad to see the life sucked out of a neighborhood joint like BSB. The saving grace here was our server who was outstanding. I really hope the new owners can see their failings and course correct.

Yelp
By far the best restaurant in San Jose. Black Sheep has been my go to date night restaurant since it opened. My wife and I celebrated our engagement here, along with our anniversary every year. The food is always amazing. The beef tartare, fried olives, and French onion soups are a must. The rotate a variety of entrees, but the burger and pork chop are both sent from heaven. The bar is also the perfect spot to relax and sip a cocktail. The bartenders mix some amazing drinks and the atmosphere always has you wanting to come back the next weekend.

Yelp
My bf and I came here for a NYE dinner in 2022. We were looking for nice places to eat at and this still had reservations open that night. There was an NYE menu for that night -- $100 per person for a 3 course dinner, extra costed a little more. We got the pork ragu and horseradish panna cotta, added oysters and beef tartare. The panna cottta was the best, which I thought I would hate bc I dont like horseradish. But the flavor was so subtle and paired perfectly with the salty pop of roe and crispy potato chip. All the other appetizers were average. For entree, both got the surf n turf, which was a king crab leg and ny strip steak. I did not really enjoy any of them. the crab leg was smaller than the ones you get at buffets... steak was whatever, a bit salty. The desserts were definitely a highlight. The mille-feuille had layers and layers of crispy flakey dough, sandwiched between decadent chocolate and vanilla. The beignets were yummy, but I fell in love with their house-made maple caramel dipping sauce. we also got drinks: the fall spice and the French 51. I dont remember much of the except the French 51 was pretty strong! The service was great, despite the busy evening. My boyfriend asked for the panna cotta, and they said they ran out -- but they were somehow able to find one last one for him. since it was nye, it was dimly lit and there were people coming in for drinks, it was sort of loud most of the time. The tables were not that far apart, so it didn't feel as intimate as I thought it would be. overall would only come here for dessert and the panna cotta lol

Yelp
We always come here for dinner when there's a special occasion or if we want a nicer place to eat for the weekend! I recently brought my aunt's family here and they really enjoyed it. I always get the mussels and frites which is the perfection amount and the mussels are always huge! The duck is also my favorite but the portion is really small and they keep increasing the price which isn't really worthwhile since it's like two pieces of duck. For appetizers, we always get the oysters which are so fresh and the Manresa baguette which comes with the best whipped butter! We tried the charcuterie board this time around and it was decent, definitely needed more bread to complement the amount of cheese. For dessert, definitely get the bread pudding and the beignets!! The bread pudding is like crispy on the outside and has Berry compote swirled inside + topped with vanilla ice cream and fresh whip. The beignets come with the BEST bourbon caramel sauce that I could literally eat straight up. The service is usually pretty good but this time around our server was a little cold and didn't seem very personable. Kind of just did the bare minimum and didn't really interact with us. The hostess however was super accommodating and sweet! Ambiance is always great for dinner! Not stiff and love the natural light that comes through. Will definitely come again.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try Black Sheep Brasserie since moving to Willow Glen and without a doubt their food was delicious, outdoor space had the perfect ambience, and the service was impeccable. To start we had the mussels, they were well seasoned and came with a bunch of fries which was just enough food to snack on before our main courses arrived. The salmon I got my main course was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The veggies were a bit bland but the sauce on the side certainly added some flavor.

Yelp
Despite the limited and hard to find parking, the food and ambiance was perfect to celebrate a birthday. Would go back again.

Yelp
Ever since new ownership (restaurant chain stacks during the day) over this place has gone downhill. Looks pretty much the same as before but you could tell everything turned more mechanical and corporate. Seems like they're consistently out of half the items on the menu. It's not his fault but our server repeatedly apologized seems like there's a disconnect of communication between management and workers. I felt bad since it seemed like he actually cared and was trying but he was getting screwed. Last time I went I literally saw the manager eating and drinking at the bar with her boyfriend the entire time we were there lol so unprofessional and a bad look especially when she could've been helping around since it was pretty busy. The place doesn't care about their customers and most of the original staff has left for a reason. If I were you I would take my money elsewhere.

Yelp
Came to celebrate my hubby's birthday.  Expensive but worthwhile for the special occasion. The atmosphere is casual and classy.  All the food was delicious. Cheese stuffed fried olives - a great new twist to elevate olives to a higher level.  Excellent choice Duck liver mousse with jam on house made bread - reminds me of France, it was very good. Burnt french onion soup - loads of cheese and big croutons.  Very heavy, as it should be. Pork chop - solid meat with complimenting veggies and sauces. Duck breast - crispy skin is a nice touch; the portions do not look like much but actually I could only eat half the plate.  I thought it was better than the pork chop. Cider - not on the menu, only $6, bubbly with a bit of tang.  I liked it.

Yelp
Asked for medium rare but the filet was cold in the middle and very rare. The medallion potatoes was a single sliced up potato with hardly any flavor to it. Not worth the price. Although, the wait staff was nice and attentive.

Yelp
Booked a table just in case, but they seemed to have plenty of room this Friday evening. We opted to sit outside as it seemed unseasonably warm out. Great for people watching on this busy street, and there's plenty of space here so we didn't feel crowded at all. Servers were very attentive and we had no problems at all. I went for the sprouts which were cooked just right, the crispy skin salmon which indeed had a nice crunch to it, though I would have liked slightly larger portions here, and we capped it off with some beignets. These were just ok I guess, and didn't stand out to what we get back home. Otherwise, everything went really well for a nice casual meal.

Yelp
My current favorite spot to dine in WG! Food- consistently executed well! Love their French onion soup, burger w/frites, and steak. I think they have the best fries in WG (always order an extra garlic aioli!) And if they have it, braised short rib or their truffle gnocchi, are also quite delicious. Their bread pudding with huckleberry is also a family favorite. (We always order with an extra scoop or two of ice cream!) Service- also consistently very good. I came here two nights in a row once. Night one, pot de crème didn't have their signature cookie, next night it did. I made a comment and they brought me additional cookies to make up for it! Lol... Hmmm, looks like I only have pictures of that. Guess I'll have to go back to take more pictures of food!

Yelp
I've been waiting for weeks to try their duck liver mousse and beef tartare. Luckily I made reservations for me and my wife and went out for dinner last night. This restaurant is beautiful! Modernized chandelier lights, fully stocked bar with a nice rustic vibe, minimal portraits of sheep on the walls, subtle house music in the background, etc. it was a romantic atmosphere. We started with Manresa baguette with their creamy thick butter, lightly salted crisp fries (pommes frites) with garlic aioli, then slowly transitioned to their duck mousse liver. This looked like chocolate ice cream; the liver mousse was so creamy, pasty, and full of that duck liver taste. It's not salty either and mixes well with their seasonal jam. I'm not that big of a fan of their beef tartare because of its mustardy-pickle taste; a bit too sour for me. It's decent but not my favorite. I did like their burgundy snails a lot with its garlic buttery taste and chunky texture which went well with bread. Their Burnt French Onion soup was good but slightly a bit bitter due to the heavy cheese load. I'd like to come back again for dessert since we didn't get a chance to. Their service is great! They are quick on refills and excellent on checking up on you for anything. They provide free refills of Manresa bread slices which is a plus. The ambiance is fantastic and food was really good! This is a great French restaurant to come to when visiting Willow Glen. They also have an extensive amount of whiskeys with the top shelf consisting of Blantons and Weller. I'd love to come back again for a few cocktails.

Yelp
On a cold Saturday night and seated outside the busy inside definitely set the tone for an inviting dinner. Started off with the onion soup which was piping hot and not overly covered with cheese and the warm saute onions with crunchy croutons was a nice pairing however the broth itself was just slightly underwhelming. The duck breast was the star as its was rendered to perfection and the beet/pistachio sauce balanced the fatty/tender salty goodness of the duck. The other entree of grilled trumpet mushrooms with lentils and roasted carrots was an excellent vegetarian option as the curried flavor sauce was subtle but delicious. For the finale the croissant bread pudding was an upscale version and with the huckleberry jam, this was a nice ending. Service was on point and definitely a re-visit.

Yelp
Solid French brasserie. Favorites are the mussels and steak tar tar for appetizers and French onion soup (but this can be a bit too salty at times). Entrees are good (chicken wasn't dry and was seasoned well).

Yelp
Salty food, overpriced food. Came here to eat french onion soup which was good at first but then was difficult to finish because it was so salty. The double burger surprisingly had no veggies except for a few thin pickles and was so salty. Duck was okay but did not seem worth the price it cost. Not sure why this place needs to be so expensive. Giving two stars instead of one because the waiter was very nice and continued to check in on us. Ambiance was very nice. But will not be coming back.

Yelp
Oysters here were so fresh! I do not remember the type, but the waiter did say that they change weekly depending on the catch. Brussel sprouts were tasty, burger was ok, customer service was slow, but they did check in and inform us why things were taking longer than expected. We ordered a few bottles of wine, and on the third one the waiter told us they didn't have any cold ones available. We were thirsty and just said can you just bring some ice and a bucket out? We waited ~20 mins and they let us know they were chilling it in the fridge. I was a bit annoyed, bc it wasn't what we asked for. So we had to wait over 30 mins and it was still warm. Overall for what we paid it was a good meal and quiet low key spot to catch up with friends.

Yelp
Went there last night for the first time since the ownership change. I was not impressed with the service, atmosphere or the food. Very disappointing for a restaurant I really enjoyed. Take the Stacks sign down. Gives the impression of a hash house. I will give them a second chance but not now.

Yelp
The food here is exceptional, offering both delicious flavors and beautiful presentation. Every dish is meticulously prepared and cooked to perfection, creating a delightful dining experience. From the first bite to the last, each plate is a testament to the chef's skill and dedication.

Yelp
I finally had the chance to try this place! I happened to call on a Saturday night and doubted that they'd have tables open. To my surprise, they were able to seat a table for 2 at 8:30pm!! We were seated immediately upon checking in. I have to say the description of the dishes weren't too exciting and sounded pretty basic. We decided to go with the stuffed crispy olives for the appetizer and the crispy salmon skin and the duck for our entrees. Our server was nice enough to offer splitting the duck order onto 2 plates. Then for dessert, we ordered the pot de creme and beignets. The food took a little while to come out. The stuffed olives came first. I didn't know what to expect, but stuffing olives seems like an intricate task. I thought the olives were delicious. I liked the crispy outer texture and the soft inside. It had really good flavor and wasn't very salty at all. The sauce it came with was on the spicy side for me, so I didn't enjoy it much. The entrees came next. The crispy salmon skin was not what I had expected. It definitely didn't match the description in the menu. It was a pleasant surprise though. It was a beautiful plate with so much color and texture. I normally don't like quinoa, but this one had sweet corn mixed in, and it was delicious! Everything went so well together! My only critique is that homegrown cherry tomatoes would've kicked this dish up a notch. The dish had regular cherry tomatoes, which didn't have much sweetness. On to the desserts... The chocolate pot de creme was served in a cute ceramic jar. I thought the pot de creme was a little thicker than what I'm used to. It's a custard, so I'd expect a mousse-like consistency. It tasted pretty good though. I highly recommend dipping the custard in the beignets sauce. So divine!!! The beignets were on point! The interior was fluffy and airy, not dense and not sweet. Our server was very nice and fun! We had a great first time experience here and hope to come again soon!

Yelp
Four of us went to get dinner here. I got home and within an hour, I started feeling sick. For hours I had diarrhea along with non-stop vomiting. I had to go to the ER and they had to put an ivy in. This is the first time in my life I got this sick, due to food poisoning. I am 100% sure it has something to do with the food I ate at this restaurant, as my vomits was my entire dinner. I still have stomach inflammation and cramps and the doctor asked me to be on a soft diet for a few days. I'm a pescatarian and I eat a lot of seafood. I have no allergies. I travel a lot, and this has never happened to me before. I will never go back to this place again.

Yelp
One of the few restaurants in Willow Glen with their own parking lot. Which was a plus for a busy Saturday evening. The food and drinks took a while to come out. We didn't really like our cocktails, so we ordered a bottle of wine for our second round of drinks. The food was delicious, especially the duck.

Yelp
don't advertise Happy Hour when you aren't open. Went at 4pm and the doors were locked.

Yelp
The random night to discover a new french restaurant in our date night itinerary. The parking was convenient. The servers and the service was up to par! Excellent management team. we ordered the shrimp cocktail, escargot, duck, burger, small lettuce salad. However, the food was not so great. The duck breast was honestly too course, and shouldve been more seared. Medium rare tasted more like a medium well. Shrimp still had some remnants and felt a but fishy. Escargot.. needed more garlic. Though it had been succulent, it was a bit off from the traditional escargot.. The after taste felt a bit under seasoned. The burger, which had two flat patties, was not what i expected at a restaurant. One thick patty would be a better expected presentation. The pickles were nice. But there was a blue cheese after taste when i asked the cheese to be separate. We asked for raw onions to kill the taste. salad: excellent. good.

Yelp
Definitely not the same as it was before the change of ownership. Some things on the menu were the same, others totally different or gone completely. We always used to come to sit at the bar, chat with Jimmy and have him make artisan cocktails and eat seasonal oysters but now we were served beer with half a glass of head that was spilling down the side like you would get at a local dive bar and oysters with grit on every one. I'd say the beer pour was one off but the ladies next to us were served beer in the same fashion. It seems that the new management doesn't mind cutting the corners that used to make this place special. I could get around this if the prices had adjusted but 6 oysters and 2 beers cost us $40. It's just an expensive pass through now without the charm and ingredients that made this place special. What a bummer.
