I'll get the negatives out of the way first. We came in for brunch after totally drooling over the brunch menu and were pretty disappointed to find that they weren't serving brunch that Sunday. I had checked the website and didn't see anything regarding brunch other than that it was available on Sundays 11-3. Oh well. We decided to stay and check it out anyway. I ordered the blackberry thyme margarita and it was just okay. The flavors were great, although I didn't get any detection of thyme. I appreciate the fact that they used real muddled blackberries, but running that mixture through a strainer would've helped a lot because the abundance of seeds in the bottom made it hard to drink. They have a really good Bloody Mary though, it's very simple but solid. We ordered the appetizer threesome, which came with your choice of one salsa (they offer 3), queso and guacamole, but they were out of guacamole. No biggie, supply chain issues and such. We settled on the salsa trio and it was pretty good. The pico was mostly onions, but I love onions so not a deal breaker for me. There wasn't any cilantro or lime in it, that would've helped. The smoky fire roasted tomato was probably my favorite. The corn and black bean was okay too. The chips were good, crispy and not greasy.
I was debating between ordering the taco flock (choose any 3) or the BirriaDilla (a birria quesadilla) and decided to go with the tacos, despite the price. 3 tacos was $14.50 and it was an additional $3 for rice and beans on the side. They ended up being out of the chipotle citrus pork I wanted, so I decided to go with the BirriaDilla after all. I felt like it was kind of pricy at $16.95, but I will say the portion kind of justified the price, although I could've done with less, especially for lunch. They packed the tortilla with flavorful barbacoa and melty cheese, and there was probably 5 or 6 sizable quesadilla slices. It stated that it came with onion relish, but I didn't see that in it. I think some onion relish and cilantro would've been a nice addition, because the rich au jus dip and the surplus of meat was kind of heavy. It came with the black beans and corn which was just okay for me. I really liked the sriracha aioli(?) that was also on the side. Something a little cooler to break up the heaviness. My friend ordered the California burrito and I must say, it was pretty authentic for Cali style with the French fries in there, which you don't see much. He got the Korean noodle salad as a side, which was enjoyed.
Perhaps the highlight of our experience was our server, Coco. He had a wonderful personality, very fun and personable, and was very prompt. He was super helpful with recommendations as well, and apologetic about the things they were out of. Coco gets 10 stars!
Overall, this was probably a 3.5 on the food in actuality, but the service definitely raised it. I would definitely come back and give it another shot. I really want to try the brunch!
