On the Grid : The Black Sheep

"Definitely worth the wait! This intimate and sophisticated restaurant is serving up decadent food that Capetonians and tourists just can’t get enough of. Don’t be fooled by their dark exterior, because once you walk inside you’ll be taken on a food journey that can turn any day into memorable one. Whether it’s date night or a birthday party with friends, the restaurant offers the perfect setting, with upstairs seating for smaller tables and seating downstairs for larger groups. Now all that’s left to do is give them a call and see when they next have an opening!" - Yellow Door Collective

🐑Black Sheep Restaurant: Kloof Street Excellence Black Sheep is a chic, must-visit spot on Kloof Street, offering a truly exceptional dining experience and incredible value. The atmosphere is cool, sophisticated, and perfect for an afternoon. The aesthetic features calming white walls and natural wood, complemented by mellow background music. A huge bonus is the beautiful views of Table Mountain right from the window. The pricing is fantastic for Kloof Street, considering their reputation—the cocktails and wine list are shockingly affordable. While the menu is modern (displayed on blackboards), the food choices are exciting and perfect for sharing with friends. The Crispy Chicken Burger was world-class. The bread was perfect, and the chicken was exceptional. The accompanying "potato things" were unique, addictive, and worth the visit alone! Every dish we tried, including the starters, was delicious. Highly recommended. I will be back soon!

Amazing place to share a meal tapas style and do not forget dessert!! The walnut tart was my favorite dessert the entire trip. Also the owner is phenomenal at wine. Vinum became our go to the rest of the trip!

I had this place earmarked for a meal when planning our visit but wasn’t sure if we would be in the area. It just so happened that we were, so we stopped by to see if they had availability. The manager said they were fully booked but if we arrived at opening he would fit us in, which was really accommodating. We had about an hour before the reservation so we popped over the road to their sister establishment, The Dark Horse, for a couple of pre-meal drinks. Both places have a cool, laid-back local vibe. The meal was amazing. I would recommend the sweetbreads and the kudu steak, which were delicious, perfectly cooked and presented. All the dishes leaving the kitchen looked impressive. We were seated on the mezzanine, which looked into the kitchen, and it added to the experience. They also have a lounge area for drinks and food overflow. The artwork in the toilets is quirky and a little macabre to some, featuring the last meals of serial killers, but I really liked it. We had starters, mains and shared a dessert, plus a few beers. The bill came to around ZAR 1245 for two. Excellent value and thoroughly recommended.

A Fantastic Culinary Evening – Absolutely Recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our visit to the Black Sheep Restaurant was a complete success! We found this place through Google and decided to stop by spontaneously. Even though no regular table was available, we were warmly welcomed and seated at the bar. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very vibrant and convivial, which we generally like. However, it's good to be prepared for a lively and loud ambiance, as the sound does carry in the stylish space. The bar stools might not be the ultimate comfort for a very long stay, but this minor point did not detract from our overall wonderful experience. The staff was consistently exceptionally friendly, attentive, and polite – truly pleasant service! But the absolute highlight was the food. Words almost aren't necessary – one look at the photos from other Google users says more than a thousand words. It was simply perfect all around and deserves a full 5 stars! A special thank you goes to the chef and the entire kitchen team. Without this outstanding culinary skill, the place would not be what it is. Warm regards and thank you for a memorable evening

Hands down best restaurant we've been to in SA. Impeccable service and fabulous dishes. We went twice what we normally never do. Loved each time and we had the opportunity to taste many dishes. So sad we have to return to our home country. Best to make reservations since even in low season it can become pretty crowded.

Creative combinations with good ingredients. Bold flavour profiles with attention to textures and balance. A great many dishes catering to vegetarian palates and they’re all delicious - my favourite being the cauliflower starter.

The food was comforting, refined, an un-pretentious. We ordered a combination of meat-based dishes and vegetarian and all were outstanding. If we had had another night in Cape Town, we would have returned. It is definitely worth a visit and make sure you book in advance.

I had a wonderful evening at Black Sheep. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and our waitress was absolutely lovely — she recommended the pappardelle, which turned out to be an excellent choice. I also appreciated the thoughtful touch of the chef sending complimentary bread to the table. The pappardelle was delicious and definitely a highlight of the night. I also really enjoyed the cocktails — the Lemon drop martini and the Bloedlemoen gin fizz were both refreshing and well made. The only disappointment for me was the ramen. The noodles were quite thick, more like pasta than the lighter ramen noodles I was expecting, and the broth was on the thinner side rather than the rich, flavorful broth I usually associate with ramen. It was presented nicely, but overall it didn’t feel like the traditional ramen I was hoping for. That said, I truly enjoyed the experience, especially the service, pasta, and cocktails, and I’d be happy to return to try more of the dishes that Black Sheep does so well. Probably better to make reservations for weekends. The place was packed on Friday night.
