Avoid! We booked a double room with breakfast for myself and my 10-year-old son via Booking, paying nearly £180 (+15 pounds were paid by Booking as a discount for a permanent client) . Despite this, the hotel owner insisted the booking was for one person and only offered one breakfast. The room had toiletries for one, and I had to ask for more. A large, unleashed dog owned by the hotel barked at and frightened my son, who later showed bruises on his ankle left by that dog. The owner dismissed the incident, called my son a liar, and was extremely rude. After we left and I sent the owner (Paolo) an email with my concerns about the dog, he falsely accused us of violating rules (eating and drinking in the room) and claimed it required deep cleaning —despite no such rules being provided and the room being left spotless, not to mention that we had dinner and early breakfast in another place. The kettle was dirty, rusted and had no safety label. The lock to the room was badly repaired and opened in the opposite direction. I spent a lot of time to figure out which of the three keys provided could open it and how. My neighbour probably had the same problem as at about midnight someone was trying to open their room without any success. Some furniture, for example, an armchair, needs patches and some cleaning. The hotel, listed as 4-star, did not meet basic service or safety standards. One of the most unpleasant and unprofessional stays we’ve experienced.

My wife & I stayed in the Waterside Cottage. The cottage could do with a wee bit of TLC but apart from that was perfectly OK. Beautiful location with a small garden overlooking the river.|Dinner was exquisite. The owner is the chef & he is clearly very experienced in the kitchen. Sea food & meat dishes were beautifully presented with much care and attention. The hotel has a kitchen garden where many of the ingredients are produced.|The young waitress, Kaylan (I think) is a real character and entertained us with her patter. She should do stand up comedy.||I am totally bemused by the recent comments of another guest who claimed that her husband said it was the worst meal he had ever had. I am a 67 years old male who has eaten in some very fine restaurants both in the UK throughout Europe and can honestly say that dinner at Blackaddie House is up there with the best. It is sensational.

Surly, disinterested and unwelcoming (male) owner greeted us on our arrival by talking into his phone and basically ignoring us. Dinner choices reflect owner's lineage, lots of simple pasta dishes. The hotel is advertised as fine dining, none of which we experienced. The food was covered in excess sauce which was beginning to dry out from being under a heat lamp too long. I suggest a lot of the food was "locally sourced", from the kitchen freezer! Breakfast was good and the decor fresh. Please note: towels changed every second night. The owner should take a hospitality course and appreciate his guests more. Stop emphasising fine dining, it is NEVER a fine dining experience. This hotel is overpriced and not recommended.

We had a lovely overnight stay in one of the riverside cottages. Accommodation was immaculately clean and comfortable, the location beautiful. Staff friendly, and food very good. The only negative was the guest welcome experience which could be better, and an offer of help with luggage would have been nice. All in all a very nice stay.

We spent a very enjoyable couple of days at this hotel. It is conveniently located within the walking distance from the town, but also out of the way enough to be quiet and relaxing. There are plenty of nice walks in the vicinity.|The room we stayed in (Mallard) had a wonderful view over the river Nith, and it was a pleasure watching the sun set from our window. Bath robes and nice toiletries were provided. We had dinner at the hotel on both nights. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfasts were also good quality. |Overall, a great family run hotel, and a relaxing break.

We stayed at Blackaddie for a family event for an evening in the Pheasant room.||Clean, well appointed room, although up a rather narrow staircase, we were offered assistance with our bags by the proprietor. Room had plenty of storage, large comfortable bed, and a bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. The room was cosy and quiet.||Plenty of choice for breakfast, and the food was delicious. We didn't dine in for dinner, but the menu looked delightful. There were a couple of choices - bar-meals and fine dining, both looked like there was plenty of choice at whatever price point suited.

Spent 2 evenings at the Blackaddie hotel, our double room was ok, we stayed in the snipe . The bed was 2 single beds pushed together with sheets and bedding holding it in place which was very uncomfortable if you rolled into the middle to cuddle your partner! I was very disappointed with my evening meal ( bearing in mind that food is classed as their top priority) I had the Sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, which was extremely chewy and i couldn’t eat half of it. The sauce looked more like gravy in colour with whole peppercorns poured all over the steak. This was served with French fries which are usually served with burgers rather than steaks. My partner had the chicken which he thoroughly enjoyed and the presentation was much better. Deserts weren’t that much better Tiramisu was warm where the coffee had just been poured onto the biscuits. Fine dining it certainly isn’t. Molly the young lady who served us was lovely and very friendly and helpful. We tried the Nithsdale hotel the following evening and we were both very impressed with the food quality ( both had cajun chicken curry which was delicious) desert was also delicious and huge portions, we would highly recommend.
