oh my god these pastries were delectable. We went early on a Monday morning, and while a lot of the neighboring stores were closed, the smell of fresh pastries really drew us in. I had the pesto tomato pastry and also the almond croissant. Both were so fresh, flaky, and full of great flavor. This might have been the best almond croissant I’ve ever had. Loved it

Google
Chocolate croissant wasn't as flaky as I'd like. The danishes were well made but a tad sweet.

The bread at Blackbird has its own flavour, their subtle yet unique taste will fill your nose from a block away. My nose always pulls me back in, I can’t just walk by their tiny storefront! I love the wide variety of breads, we’ve tried many new types but my favourite remains the focaccia. My dad loves the sourdough ryes, my mom loves the pastries and my sister is on my team, team focaccia. I often stock up and bring bread when I go visit my fam. It freezes well but you’ll have to slice any unsliced loaves yourself. It is a little on the pricey side and they stopped making my favourite focaccia (pecorino) almost a year ago but it remains on the menu which makes me hopeful and then disappointed every time I go. The original taste is owed to the sourdough starter that’s been a family heirloom of sorts. Mad respect. Make sure you go earlier in the day if you have a specific or tall order as some breads sell out and they’re all made early in the morning.

Best bakery in town, love their Cannelle, Croissant and chocolate cork. Mari was very gentle and kind with us.

The service was absolutely lovely, so kind and welcoming. The chocolate pastry and the cinnamon bun were both super, super delicious! I highly recommend everyone to stop by and treat themselves here — you won't regret it!

Great little bakery with a fresh breads and pastries. Limited selection late in the day, but can’t go wrong whatever you get. A couple of seats if you need to sit down for a minute. Friendly service, nice atmosphere, Kensington Market.

Just hit up Blackbird Bakery and wow! The almond croissant is to die for, and the buns, wholegrain oval, and Kensington sourdough are all super tasty. The sweet old lady (sorry did not ask for your name) who helped me was so cute and made the experience even better. She was friendly and really knew her stuff. This place is definitely one of the best bakeries in the downtown core. If you’re looking for great bread and pastries, you’ve got to check this place out. Highly recommend!

I visited the Baldwin Street location in Kensington Market with a primary interest in getting healthy, artisanal bread and I wasn’t disappointed. For this first trip I picked up the Danish Rye bread which per the website contains Rye Flour,Water, Rye Sourdough Culture (Rye Flour, Water), Cracked Rye, Flax Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Sea Salt. No sugar - bonus. The loaf didn’t disappoint. Yes it is smaller than normal supermarket loaves but it is a very dense bread. It is built like a brick! Made for mindful eating. Had a slice toasted at home for dinner with vegetarian chili - super yummy and filling. You can definitely taste the sourdough and the rye. As a special treat I also got one of the kouign-amann pastries which is traditional Breton puff pastry usually 30 pct butter 30 pct caramelized sugar with 40 pct bread base. I have had kouign-amann many times in Montreal and the one at Blackbird was on par, albeit with what seemed like less butter (which is a good thing). The bread base was an interesting mix of unbleached wheat flour, red fife flour, malt flour but this did not take away from the traditional flavour nor make the pastry heavy and doughy. It was flaky on the outside soft on the inside. Neither product gluten free. Two small cafe tables outside the store. Not really any seating inside. Will be back to try the different loaves and pastries. Now on my list of favourite bakeries in Toronto.

Yelp
The best bakery in Toronto in my opinion! I had a life changing canelé here the first time I visited and have been obsessed ever since. From sweet treats to bread, this bakery does everything well. The staff are always so nice and friendly and I find the prices to be very reasonable considering the quality of the products. The bakery is small, pretty much just a counter where you can order and pay but it's really cute and inviting in great corner of Kensington market. If you want to try one thing, do the canelé and thank me later, although you really can't miss with anything

Yelp
I'd rate Blackbird Baking three and a half stars. We had the shallot and Gruyère danish as well as the Kouign Amann. Both were light and airy with a crispy edge. As expected the danish was more savory given the ingredients. The kouign amann was on the sweet side and had that signature caramelized crust. Service was quick, friendly, and helpful. There were two small tables outside and a couple counter seats inside.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for breakfast on a Monday morning. After much deliberation, I ordered a pain au chocolate. They don't have espresso beverages but they do have hot coffee, which is decent. The pastry was good. Flakey on the outside and soft on the inside, and there was a sufficient amount of chocolate. There was very limited counter seating in the cafe, so we took our food to go.

Yelp
Easy 5/5. After many years of wanting to come, I finally had the chance and it is an instant favourite and new staple. Tried the Kensington sourdough which is made with white flour. It is delicious with a strong sourdough flavour. Also had the lemon tart which was excellent. The crust is crisp and rich while the curd is incredibly creamy yet fresh. I loved it so much that we came by again a few days later for a new loaf and to try the kouign amann. Also delicious with flaky layers and a crisp and sweet outer shell. Staff are friendly and the line moves very quickly when there is one. The space is small but there is some high top seating. The inside smells incredible. I will be back as soon as this new loaf of bread is done.

Yelp
Drove here for some pastries. Croissants were ok but fresh. We didn't get to stay long so had to rush our order. Service was great

Yelp
"All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to be free." -"Blackbird" by the Beatles Over 50 years ago, The Beatles sang that, and, fast forward to modern day, the same feeling translated from one Blackbird to another, all the way to Toronto. Except for this time, instead of a song, it comes in the form of baked goods. Blackbird Baking Co. Freedom in the form of canales, focaccia, & flavor profiles you never could've dreamt up. It's not the type of place you pop a squat at, but if you're looking for a standout French pastry, piece of bread, or killer cookie on-the-go, here's your stop. I got two separate types of canales (sue me for seizing the moment. These things are hard to come by.) -- one regular & one orange, earl gray flavored -- & a piece of focaccia, and I'd be selling this place short to say they rocked my world. Utter bliss. With every bite I had to stop & check out the world around me, because it somehow got more colorful while eating.

Yelp
We have been to blackbird Queen E. location since we moved to the area. The bread we normally purchase is average albeit on the heavy side. Mind you that this bakery sells their loaves of bread for $9 CAD (each). Since the bakery is very close to us, we have patronized it almost everyday after moving to the area. One day we walked-in past 6pm and we were refused service. The female clerk claimed she could not sell us the bread on display because she was in the process of closing the cash register (whataver that means). As a result of this experience we decided to stop purchasing anything further from this bakery and fortunately for us there are a bevy of other excellent bakeries /pastry shops in our area who are delighted to serve us (even at closing time).

Yelp
I wasn't too familiar with Blackbird Baking when someone offered to buy me one of their sweet treats. But now, having seriously enjoyed said sweet treat, I'll never forget them. Though I guess they're known for their bread, I was given one of their Chocolate Corks. I didn't really know what to expect, but I was immediately intrigued based solely on the name. And indeed, it does resemble a cork made out of chocolate. And this concoction is actually pretty ingenious. It's basically a dense brownie-type outer shell and a luscious mousse-like interior. I mean, I was hooked before I'd finished chewing my first bite. This is one delicious dessert. It's so intensely chocolatey without ever being overly sweet, which I really appreciated. The exterior and interior textures and flavors complement each other beautifully, too. The bottom line is that the Chocolate Cork might just be one of the best chocolate-based desserts I've ever had. It's that good.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for bread, and this bakery came highly rated so of course I had to come! I got a mini baguette, which had that signature crisp on the outside and fluffy and soft interior, which was very satisfying. I could probably eat the entire thing just like that, but it'd go great with butter or as a sandwich. I also couldn't resist the jalapeno cheese scone. This had a deceptively harder exterior (not in a bad way), but a soft and cheesy interior with good jalapeno flavor. This was addictive and I found myself unable to put it down. Definitely a must-get if you like jalapenos and if you like cheese. Definitely give this place a try; you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Small storefront in Kensington and it's better to come earlier in the day for most selection. I've purchased their Baldwin loaf before in other grocery stores they distribute too but I've always wanted to see their brick and mortar. They sell other grocery items such as jams and coffee beans, things that go with the baked goods. This time I got the Kensington loaf which is a white one (vs the brown Baldwin loaf). Both are delicious and great for toast/ sandwiches. I think the Baldwin one is less salty so I personally prefer that one but both are solid options! Also purchased their strawberry danish and it was flakey and delicious!

Yelp
One of the best bakeries ever! I love their multi grain baguettes! Mostly buy from St. Lawrence!

Yelp
The moment you step into Blackbird Baking Co., you're enveloped in the warm, inviting aromas of fresh-baked breads, pastries, and cakes. The charming bakery is filled with an array of tempting treats, from baguettes and bread loaves to cakes, tarts, buns, and more. Whether you're stopping in for a quick snack or picking up some goodies to take home, you'll be sure to find something to satisfy your cravings at Blackbird Baking Co. This charming bakery offers a wide selection of baguettes, bread loaves, cakes, tarts, buns and more. The breads are baked fresh daily and are absolutely delicious. The baguettes are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the bread loaves are perfect for slathering with butter. The cakes and tarts are also very good, and the buns are so fluffy and soft. The staff at Blackbird Baking Co. are very friendly and welcoming, and they make sure that you're happy with your purchase. The prices are very reasonable, and the baked goods are definitely worth trying. I highly recommend Blackbird Baking Co. for all your pastry and bread needs!

Yelp
Nice selection of pastries, smelled heavenly when you enter. Decent and friendly staff. Love the nice decor and modern bakery vibes. Plain Croissant 4/5 - buttery flavour forward, denser interior with a crispy exterior. Less light and airy, but well laminated. Likely better when its warmed. A nice basic croissant. Relatively decent pricing. Would like to come back to try other pastries, but for the croissant, quite solid and would come back for it if I'm around Kensington.

Yelp
There aren't enough good things I can say about this shop. From the pastries ordered to the breads, each item was crafted well and exceeded expectations. The staff was friendly and efficient, ensuring that folks didn't dilly dally inside too long - they currently have a limit of just a few people inside at a time.

Yelp
Blackbird Baking Co is the place to get delicious baked goods and breads in the heart of Kensington Market. I've been to this particular location several times but frequently visit their Queen East location as well as the grocery stores (Pusateris, McEwans) that sell their products as well. Their white Kensington sourdough is my bread of choice and there is always a loaf at home. My all time favourite is their olive and rosemary loaf but they seemed to have stop making now. Their baguettes are also to die for as well! Go support this local Toronto bakery and try their delicious breads and baked goods! You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Spoiler alert, I do love this place now... I started coming here the past few years because some of the pastries were so high-quality ... not cheap, but large and generous. The quality and authenticity of the baking has held up, yet some pastry items seem to keep shrinking, notably the Galette and the danishes. ( This is why I rarely go to Thobors on Mount Pleasant anymore, they changed stuff so much to economize and the sheer exuberant French joy went out of it. ) I understand inflation is high and margins are tight, but seven dollars for a Galette I can eat in four to five bites seems like a lot of spend. The texture is amazing... ahh if they'd just make these and the danishes bigger and charge a little more! I'll pay for the extra apples and plums and berries, and hey let's think of helping the farmers. I'll love this place either way. Blackbird also have a huge variety of other treats, all worth trying, but man cannot live on pastry and tartes alone. The loaves here are also fantastically textbook, old-school artisan breads. And I would say excellent values. The Danish rye is extraordinary, very compact and dense and a few small slices will suffice. I mean small... Thin slices... these can be sliced and frozen, and make great compact sandwiches to take with (try with butter and your favourite cheese. Kasebrøt for ya!) I haven't tried every single one of the other breads, but these are clearly proud bakers. Blackbird bakes the traditional French sourdough Miche pretty close to the weekend - it's enormous and made with 100% whole grain flour of rye, wheat and a little spelt. Don't be afraid to take home a chunk, and if it's a humid day you can crisp it up beautifully by popping in a 325° oven. This is real bread, from high-quality flour and will last for days. I bought a sandwich here just one time, and the fresh flavours blew me away so the price wasn't bad. Grateful to have Blackbird Baking in our city.

Yelp
I think this might be the best bakery in Toronto. If you know one that is better than blackbird please let me know.

Yelp
Always my go to favourite bakery shop. Always consistently good. Both locations at Baldwin and Riverdale.

Yelp
Spent my day off a few weeks ago shopping downtown which started with trying this bakery after searching on Yelp which had amazing reviews. I must say that it really helps to know what to get with all the recommendations from all the Yelp reviewers. Here is the run down of all the items we tried: 1) Cinnamon bun - really light almost like a churro...my favorite! 2) Canelé - delicious! - first time trying this French pastry...must try! 3) Croissants (Almond, Chocolate, etc.) - these were all good Overall, everything was very fresh and tasty. I would definitely be coming back!

Yelp
We went to Blackbird Baking Co. the other day because we were craving some sort of dessert and saw the reviews and pictures on yelp. We got the lemon tart, honey ginger scone and a loaf of the Kensington sourdough. Everything was freshly baked and just simply amazing. We don't even eat that much bread but the Kensington sourdough was so good we kept finding excuses to eat more of it - we almost finished the whole loaf in two days. I'm really happy we found this place and I really look forward to trying some of their other pastries and breads. Five stars.

Yelp
I usually pick up their pecorino foccaccia at Pusateri's in Bayview Village, but happened to be in Kensington and went to the actual bakery today. Cute, small, air conditioned shop was perfect on a scorcher of a day. The foccaccia smells amazing.

Yelp
Another great shop that is tucked into the hustle and bustle of Kensington Market. This one brings artisan bread that is baked on site, a selection of pastries, a few choice sandwich made with that hand-crafted bread, and other accoutrement for bread. We had two objectives coming here today: 1. Select a delicious bread to pair with the chilli that was going to be slowing cooking away home. 2. Try one of their delicious daily made sandwiches that uses their bread. We ended up with a sourdough baguette that had a very crispy crust while the crumb was soft and chewy. It definitely possessed that sourdough quality in crust and crumb too. Eventually I settled for the salami sandwich that had a lot of slices of salami, gruyere cheese, spicy grainy mustard, and slightly tart pickles between two slices of poppy seed baguette. Simple ingredients combined together to take a sandwich to another level. My YEA decided for the ham & brie sandwich which was toasted on a panini press to make that cheese oh-so-gooey. Thick white slices of white pullman bread contained the ham, brie, and dijon mustard. It was a joy to keep sinking my teeth into as we traded bites of sandwich with each other. The sandwiches were a totally satisfying treat and we just sat along the very small wall bar observing folks coming in to buy those loaves of bread.

Yelp
Now this is my kind of spot. A quaint little bakery who knows exactly what they do better than most: dish out high end carbohydrates that'll just about change your life. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? You'll miss Blackbird unless you're looking for it unless there's a crowd of hangry folks out front - which is likely. The fact that the shop is tucked away on a side street only adds to its charm, and that charm is built upon thanks to some fantastic team members behind the counter who will gladly share their passion for all things bread. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Blackbird isn't cheap, but nor should it be. Your average pastry, like their signature lemon tart, will run you $4.25, which, while not cheap, also isn't unreasonable. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I have had probably twenty koign-amman pastries over the past few months, and this was easily in the top three thanks to a unique coating of caramel that encased a chewy center. As if that wasn't enough, the lemon tart was borderline life changing, and was as much creme brûlée as it was flavorful tart. Excellent. Two Stars. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? Without a doubt yes. Star.

Yelp
Only bought a loaf of multigrain bread. Place was clean and friendly staff. Took the 12 grain loaf home and it was shockingly excellent. Delicious while being healthy isn't easy. I'd come here again! Sorry for the lack of a pic.

Yelp
I work in Kensington Market so I often pick up bread from Blackbird Bakery. Bakery bread is so much better than the heavily processed ones in the supermarket. I highly recommend the lemon tart and butter croissant, though it is a bit pricey. They also offer Challah bread for 6.50 on Fridays that are delicious. The canned jams they have from Manning Canning are also pricey but very good.
google avatar

Ida N.

Yelp
Excellent bakery. The sourdough loves are great, as are the pastries and all of the desserts they make. Can't go wrong really!
google avatar

Cindy D.

Yelp
I came here at around 11am. There were loaves of bread on the selves which gave the place a nice aroma. It was my first run here so I decided to get their infamous sourdoughs but in baguette form (smaller than their usual sizes) so I can test it out. I got both a seeded and regular sourdough baguette. Maybe the lady behind the counter was having a bad day but she looked like she didn't want to be there. Anyways, it was my first time trying out sourdough and I thought it was very bland, however, I did try dipping it in sauce and it did help a bit. I guess this isn't my thing but I'm glad I got to try it since I've been meaning to come here due to the other reviews.

Yelp
Great place to refuel after vintage shopping in Kensington Market. We tried a lemon tart a fellow thrifter had purchased from Blackbird and then made a beeline for the bakery. It's the cutest inside, bread Christmas decorations were hanging on the wall, it smelled of that fresh baked goodness and so much choice. Sure the line up was a little long but we couldn't make up our minds so we needed those extra minutes. Ended up getting the flat bread pizza, a huge square slice with juicy fresh tomato, ham and cheese. It was heated up and handed to me in a paper bag which I ate out of while walking down Kensington, and I felt like a pig in shit. Pizza and vintage is what I live for.
google avatar

Danielle B.

Yelp
Fantastic baked goods here. I've tried a variety of items so far and my favourite is the lemon tart - hands down probably the best one I've had in a very long time. Their butter croissants are also exceptional. Flaky and light, crisp on the outside and buttery goodness on the inside. Even better toasted the next day. Seriously delicious!

Yelp
I've been back to Blackbird about 4 times now and without a doubt, the service and food still puts a smile on my face. It has definitely earned my update to 5 stars. Blackbird is one of those great bakeries that has a dedication to waking crazy early to bake fresh bread... and we're not talking the usual commercial yeast laden ones that are tasteless sponges. We're talking highly flavourful and aromatic bread that has random bubbles hiding under a thick glorious bronzed crust. You wouldnt expect it from the clean and simple little store in Kensington but once you step through the doors, the amazing smells tell you all you need to know. Though I love good bread, I often come to Blackbird to sate my sweet tooth. Held in their display, they can look like gems with their gleaming and shiny glazes on top of season fruits. The strawberry season always get me as I try as much as I can as the beautiful reds are ruby like and always calling my name. Service here is always happy and efficient. They are also incredibly generous ... beyond the norm. Though I've seen a few other bakeries do this (e.g. Mabel), I know Blackbird is generous with their bread for those who are in unfortunate circumstances. I've seen a few times where they've handed over a fresh loaf of bread to a homeless person. Thats just priceless and worthy of every respect to give back to the community. Strawberry Frangipane Tart - This was unbelieveably delicious... you had the rich frangipane underneath that is so flavourful. It's not overly sweet but it has a wonderful creamy texture from the pureed nuts and butter. Add on top the best sweetest strawberries and I'm in heaven. I love how Blackbird never goes overboard on the sugar... starring ingredients are the flavour that are hitting your tongue first. 5/5 Canele - One of the cities best... If you see it, GET IT. They sell out every day and for good reason. It is supremely time sensitive and labour intensive. I've tried to make this twice and ... failed. Blackbird has done a great job to get a nice crisp crust and a super gentle pudding like texture inside. The flavours are sweet vanilla and a bit eggy... it's good. It's one of my favourite things to get here 5/5 Short answer to any questions about 'should I buy it?' and the answer is yes. There's much care and dedication into EVERYTHING I bought from here. I can't wait to get their pumpkin tart once again. That was just amazing. Each new month you have something new to eat!

Yelp
This gem was on our short list while walking through Kensington Market. I have a weakness for carbs and do my best to limit it. When the pull is too strong I will give in for quality. We are visiting from Washington DC and the lure of the incredible breads was too much. What talent. I ended up buying one Cannelle. Saved it for about 2 hours till we returned to our Airbnb. My only regret...that I didn't buy 3 or 4. These are only made certain days of the week. Lucky me...today was one of those days- I took my time eating it and even shared (one small bite) with my amazing fiancé.

Yelp
Just look at the picture and tell me you wouldn't want to eat this potato pizza? That gooey melted cheese with a brown tinge and that royal purple just pops. And come on, it's carbs on carbs action. Unfortunately, all the hype around its looks didn't match the taste. I felt the potato slices were too crunchy or they were possibly not cooked all the way through. The pizza then came off as a little on the dry side. The bread crust was an 11 out of 10 though on freshness. Just not what I was expecting. At least it's right in the heart of Kensington Market! So there's tons of other places to nosh at. Rating: 2 siren songs out of 5
google avatar

Dorna R.

Yelp
Every time I walked by this place I wondered why there is always a line up in front of it, now I know why. Their bread is so good that my husband and I went through a whole loaf in 2 days! We couldn't stop eating it! Out of the different loaves we have tried so far, my favorite is the Kensington sourdough. Their lemon tarts are also so good. Try to have them fresh as the burnt sugar on top melts if you keep them in the box for too long, so it loses its crispiness. I also tried their pumpkin tart, not a huge fan of that. But everything else we have tried so far was amazing, especially the bread. I highly recommend this place. So glad we found it!
google avatar

Stephen K.

Yelp
Very good croissants! The crumb was a little bitter, but it's because of the longer bake. The inside was moist and very good honey comb structure. Amazing variety of pastries.
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
I've been there a few times this summer after being a long time regular. What is going on with the incredibly flat loaves? The bread is no longer crusty and really flat even if you go right when they open to get the fresh loaves. I noticed this deterioration of the past year but this is just bad now. Unfortunate.

Yelp
Blackbird bakery is known for its sourdough breads, but they have so much more to enjoy!! They use heritage, stone ground and unbleached flours, to bake some of Toronto's finest breads including multigrain ovals, baguettes, focaccias, white ciabatta and Moroccan flatbreads, all for around $5. If you don't want to wait, they have a selection of pre made sandwiches, reasonably priced and very tasty! For me, I always stop in for their rotating desserts. Tarts, danishes, croissants, cakes and scone combinations you won't find too many other places. Most recently I've had the lemon almond polenta cake, lemon tart and pear fruit danish. All delicious!! I've never had anything here I didn't enjoy and look forward to coming back to.

Yelp
This tiny place is a gem, truly. I wish I lived closer to it. I'd get my loaves here all the time. The olive, rosemary, and nigella seed sourdough bread is amazing. It's been a week and I'm still thinking about it. It's so good as is and even better toasted with butter. I'm making myself salivate. Moving on. The ginger honey scone is a must-try. The candied ginger pieces inside make it a standout. I got the last one that day and I'm so glad I got to try it. The lemon tart is also really good. The caramelization on top is a nice touch, just make sure it's packaged in a way that it doesn't lose that layer to the brown paper bag. Better yet, just put it straight in your mouth. Best advice you'll get today. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
4.5/5 I ordered a ginger honey scone for $3 before tax, and it was incredible. It was still warm and was a satisfying portion. The top was caramelized but I love how it was not overly sweet, allowing the ginger flavour to shine. I also bought the Kensington sourdough for approximately $5-$6. I asked for them precut and it was really tasty too. You can easily tell how it's freshly made from the first bite. I'll definitely come back to try more of their sweets, but the only thing that's hindering me is the price (hence the 4.5).

Yelp
Photos from our first trip. The lemon tart was a delicate sweet and tangy. The texture was like a slightly solidified créme brûlée. The strawberry and rhubarb tart was just as delicious. I love the fruit/custard but my favorite part was the crust. Super crumbly, buttery and delicious.

Yelp
Despite multiple trips per week to Kensington Market for coffee or sometimes lunch, I only recently became aware of Blackbird Baking's presence in the Market. A colleague of mine had made a special trip to Blackbird to get one of their lemon tarts. It is not often that this particular colleague endorses products or restaurants but the few he has recommended were particularly memorable. Thus when he boldly proclaimed that Blackbird Baking has "the world's best lemon tart", I knew I had to trek over there to see whether there was truth to his claim. The bakery is situated in the space once occupied by ACE bakery a few years back. Like ACE bakery the smell of freshly baked bread and pastries is intoxicating when you walk in. They sell a huge assortment of bread, cakes, tarts, scones, Special items such as caneles, brioche, challah, and olive breads are only available on certain days of the week. Spelt bread is available for the wheat sensitive consumer. There was a basket of generously sized fresh baguette slices to sample. The bread was delicious and had the perfect balance of slightly chewy crust to soft tender bread. The selection of gluten rich items was quite overwhelming and I instantly regretted not having brought more than a few dollars change (intended for my coffee). I eventually spotted the original object of my desire and raison d'être in the store...the lemon tart. It had a perfect brûlée topping, deliciously tart and not-too-sweet lemon filling, and a browned shortbread cookie-like crust. For $4, it was very reasonably priced and will continue to be a reason for me to repeatedly visit this bakery. I can honestly say it is definitely one of the best lemon tarts I have ever had. But I plan to reserve declarations of it being "the world's best" until I've tasted lemon tarts across the globe. If you are a fan of bread, you must check out Blackbird Bakery!

Yelp
People were nice. We got two croissants with butter and sugar layers (forget the name), a pear pastry and an apple pastry! Was delightful, 10/10 would recommend. Nom nom

Yelp
This is my neighborhood bakery and I love it. Their sandwiches are incredible and their pastries are to die for. Bread is out of this world. I recently picked up their lemon tart brûle which was so good I went back the next day to get another and (because I ran out of hats) decided to go to another location the next day to get another so I wouldn't be embarrassed seeing the two same workers I'd seen two days in a row all over again. Their stuff is so good and tastes amazing. If you're in the area definitely stop by and grab a treat. If you live in the neighborhood idk where you're getting your bread from now but it needs to be here by tomorrow.

Yelp
Best peach galette I've had in my life! No picture because I ate it too fast. Full of juicy peaches, the crust was buttery, light, and flakey, not too sweet, and it was still warm when I got it! It's a seasonal item so come quick to eat them up! Wanted a canele too but they only make them on the weekends ... which means they must be fresh fresh fresh!

Yelp
The bread is the best I drive excess of 50 KM just to get a loaf of Kensington Bread Not sure why they can't sell there products in more locations? Usually long wait time but worth every minute. Keep up the great job

Yelp
Beware carb-ivores! This place will be your downfall. I love that this place is open early. It's easy to grab freshly baked goodies on the way to work. They've got so many sweet and savoury treats that change daily such as canales, mini cakes, croissants, scones from 2.50-3.75. You can also grab freshly baked bread and baguettes - the sourdough comes in between $5-$6 depending on which one you're getting. I'm typically here on a Saturday morning and, because it's a small store front, the place can get pretty crowded. Don't let that deter you though, it is absolutely worth it! Grab one of the scones to go! You won't regret it.

Yelp
Longer line but moves fast. Pastries are soooo good and can't leave without a loaf or two of their breads!

Yelp
Yes it is worth the 45 min drive to get fresh baguettes from Blackbird. The shape of the bread is unique, very pointy. For those that like to eat the ends of the baguette this one is for you. The crust is extra crispy and the taste is better then any baguette I have had this side of the Atlantic. But wait it gets better, Blackbird now makes Caneles de Bordeaux, if you haven't tried these French pastries you must. I consider myself somewhat of an expert on these since I spent $300 to get 24 of he copper molds to make them at home since I could not find the real things in TO. But Blackbird's Caneles are the authentic version made with the correct copper molds, crispy on the outside with pudding like custard inside made with real vanilla beans. Thanks Blackbird now please open more stores.

Yelp
I love their scone!!! Finally I could catch their scone before it sold out. From my previous visit to Blackbird, their bakery usually sold out before 4 PM and their store will be empty. This time, I visited the store around 2 PM and purchased a Fig & Maple Scone $3 and Apple & Butterscotch Danish $4. I ate my Apple & Butterscotch Danish first because of the Apple slices on top, and it contained both soft and crispy texture. I like it. I put the Fig & Maple Scone in the fridge for 2 days because I forgot to eat it, and warm up in Microwave for 40 seconds. It was still delicious!!!! It was still crunchy outside, and not dry inside. I especially LOVE the fig slice inside and it is unique. I will recommend Blackbird to my friends as always.
