Blackbird

I recently dined at Blackbird Restaurant and was blown away by their Salmon/Quinoa Bowl. The salmon was cooked to perfection—tender yet richly flavored—while the quinoa offered a delightful crunch, perfectly seasoned to complement the dish. The impeccable service and inviting ambience elevated the entire experience. I can’t wait to return for another extraordinary experience.

This was our 2nd time at this restaurant. We were so enamoured with the Black Seabass dish containing morel mushrooms and a divine pea puree, we returned and ordered the same dish. We were sadly disappointed. The chef changed an award winning dish- (it was perfect! ) by replacing the delicious pea puree with a mustard sauce (which I did not eat as I have an intense dislike for mustard) and inexplicably removed the mushrooms from the dish. This turned the dish into Black Bass with asparagus which I would say was good, but not great. The service was just fine, fast and provided by an eager to please server. You may wonder why we ordered a dish which was altered - the reason is we looked up the menu online before we made the same-day reservation so when we arrived, we did not scrutinize the changed menu as we should have. Our mistake.

Very cute new space. Got a falafel sandwich and one chicken sandwich for lunch. Only ok. The falafel was tasty but small in portion sized for the lunch price and same with the chicken sandwich. Only ok. Sole is related to them and Sole is great! I don’t know, for the price for lunch I would have loved a bigger portion or a more diverse menu. Spiga is down the road and bigger portions for the same price. Will try again since this place is new and just getting going maybe they specialize in dinner entrees whereas the fish would have been a better option.

Really liked this place the apps, drinks and meal were great but I was very disappointed in the service it felt extremely rushed. The waiters asked for our food order as soon as we sat down (didn’t even look at the menu yet) and said we had to order our apps and meal at the same time. We had a 7:00 reservation for a birthday celebration and were asked at 8:30 if we could move to the bar because people wanted our seats and they were being angry. We didn’t even have the table for 2 hours which is a regular table time minimum. I highly recommended this restaurant to stop taking so many reservations at once that they cannot handle seating and making your guests feel rushed. With the price of our bill it shouldn’t be a rushed experience as we spent $400++.

We ordered two apps: crispy cauliflower, soup dumplings. both tasted wonderful, but the cauliflower was not crispy. It was still delicious. The soup dumplings were not soup dumplings. They were just regular dumplings, but still very tasty. We each ordered tacos. We enjoyed everything very much, but we feel that it was incredibly overpriced. $17 for four dumplings is a bit obnoxious. That said, it was a lovely place, and we enjoyed ourselves.

Everything is just perfect! Specially if you are looking for a fine dine and drink experience.. The service is really good, the atmosphere impeccable and the food and drinks are delicious.. I loved this place and will definitely be back..

Some food was better than others. Definitely a disappointment overall. Drinks were pretty good. The sushi was fresh and tasty. However, the ribeye seemed to be a sirloin they pretend is a ribeye without any marbling or fat… the result of that masquerade meat is Tough, chewy, and dissatisfying. Desserts were not good. The cheesecake was so sour cream heavy and slightly spoiled. I wouldn’t go back due to this facade of ribeye being fat free. It was so tough that I even clarified if it was the correct cut.

For the price, WAY overrated and WAY over priced. $200 for a Mother’s Day brunch for 2 adults and a kid. And food that was late. 1 Bloody Mary. Your’re paying for the zip code and the nice sidewalk. Cesar salad was what you’d get at your work cafeteria. The rest, well I’d say go to Terrain for half the price, better portions and food. And then you can shop after.

Stopped in for a quick bite and found that everything was quite good including the service. The steak was a proper French medium rare not an American overcooked piece of shoe leather. Sat at a high top by the bar and the staff was very attentive. The apps were also excellent, one was a tuna tartare and the other was a Hamachi.

The service is very good. The staff is nice, attentive, and personable. The food was very good, but it is quite expensive for a small portion of food. The steak and soup dumplings were very tasty. The donuts were okay. I would recommend this place for a special occasion. Or if someone else is paying

Just a great meal and warm atmosphere on a balmy night in New Canaan. Visiting from Virginia to tour nearby Glass House. Great menu made it tough to choose. Had some corn fritters before our sea bass and swordfish entrees. Topped it off with goat cheese ice cream with figs, balsamic, and almonds. Don't miss that!

We typically go for drinks. Drink menu is always trendy and tasty. I usually get the margarita which is a 5. Weirdly enough, the sushi was very good and I hear they have a great happy hour which I still have to try. Great outdoor seating which has been expanded and there is plenty of it.

Had a really great lunch at Blackbird today. Ambiance is really relaxed and modern, service was attentive and friendly. My wife and I tried: fried oysters, baby romaine salad, smash burger and the lemon ricotta pancakes. Everything was really tasty! My favorites were the romaine salad with avocado, bacon, roasted corn and green goddess dressing. It was dressed well and all the individual components were prepared perfectly - sweet corn, crispy thick cut bacon. The smash burger was my other favorite - to me it reminded me of an upscale Big Mac (and I mean that as a sincere compliment). The baconaisse sauce was delicious and the pickled tomatoes were a nice touch. On the whole everything was delicious and we'll definitely be back!

excellent overall. burger very nicely seasoned, good idea with the mushrooms which were prominent. nice bun. really unctuous cheese and just cooked perfectly. i started with their philly roll which surprised me that the six pieces were not uniformly cut/ differing heights which is one sign i guess that you're not ordering sushi from a japanese or even asian chef.

Blackbird is our new favorite in Fairfield County. The staff is amazing, friendly, helpful and attentive. The space is beautiful and chic with a bit of NYC vibe. The bar has plenty of seats and space to either pop in for a drink or enjoy dinner and the bartenders are enjoyable to chat with and engaged. Now onto the food...yummy! The sushi rolls are fantastic!!! The Brussel sprouts, salmon tartare, soup dumplings are must have appetizers. The burger and homemade fries are worthy of fighting over. I could keep going, but I'm going to run out of space. Just go and see for yourself.

Great food and ambiance. Blackbird did not disappoint. We had the Tagliatelle Cacio e Pepe and the salmon, both delicious.

Yummy food and excellent service. We ordered spicy cucumber salad, tuna tartar (very good), pork and branzino. The service was very attentive (Jose was helping us and he was wonderful). Great place for a date night!

Blackbird just opened recently and most word of mouth has been about their cocktails and small plates at dinner. On April 1 they opened for lunch so we decided to go with a group of 8. It was awesome! We each had an entree or salad or sandwich so didn't dip in to the small plates but they sounded good. My BLT panzanella salad was delicious. Great reports from the three that ordered the Smash burger. It comes with the most amazing fries- crispy, salty and hot!!! We split two desserts and all agreed they were worth the calories, especially the sticky toffee pudding. Service was very good, professional and not intrusive. We are so happy we tried it and are planning to go back to try the cocktails!

Amazing bar with personable and knowledgeable bartenders. The craft cocktails are all so unique and delicious. Definitely worth going to for a drink.

Great Find Across from the Marriott! We were staying at the Marriott across the street but didn't feel like paying Marriott prices for Marriott-quality food. This spot was the perfect alternative! The bartender and all the staff were fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. It's just a short walk across the street (get your steps in!) and totally worth it. Highly recommend stopping by for great food, drinks, and a welcoming staff.

Great place for lunch, a drink, and people watching in New Canaan. Salads, pork tostados, and avocado toast---all delicious. Recommend checking out Blackbird if you are in town for shopping or in the mood for something new.

Blackbird is easily the best new restaurant I've eaten at in years. I live right around the corner from a Jean-Georges restaurant that my family and I have been dining at regularly for decades and Blackbird blows it away. Their crudo is excellent and is adorned and presented in a manner that adds flavor and texture without overpowering the pristine raw fish. I bravely ordered the venison on my first visit which is a dice roll in even the best of restaurants. It was amazing and conjured fond memories of the first, and best, venison steak I've ever eaten back in the 90s at Felidia. The place also runs with precision and efficiency without making you feel rushed. The service was excellent from the busboys to the manager. I dare say that no one who works there has ever uttered the words," it's not my job." I don't write many reviews because I don't want to hurt anyone's business. It's a pleasure to be able to write a positive one.

The service was very good but that is honestly the only positive thing I have to say about this restaurant. The sushi and sashimi were supermarket quality at best and when they say small plates, they're not kidding I have never seen such small portions. The ribeye steak was just awful I'm assuming the meat was midgrade choice, but would not be surprised if it was low grade select in any event it was tough and flavorless. The vibe and the bar seemed pleasant and we might go back for a drink, but I can't imagine ever eating here again.

Service was excellent. My water never went to the bottom. I ordered Cacio E Pepe. Shrimp was excellent, pasta could've been a bit cheesier. Overall great. My father ordered the dry-aged ribeye special. Holy cow, we both agreed that was the BEST steak we've ever had in our lives.

This is my second time here, both times really solid. Very eclectic menu, everything from burgers and steak to sushi rolls. Everything was good. Everyone will find something good to eat here.

Went here for dinner. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Drinks were yummy. The food was excellent! I tried the mussels for an app (delish!) and had the boneless short rib (fork tender) over a mushroom rice. My husband had the ribeye which he truly enjoyed. The restaurant was a little noisy, but we were seated by the bar area. We would definitely return!

We had the most on the evening of the Kentucky derby. Our bartender was so great, making us derby style cocktails. Celebrating our win with our horse. Then we sat for dinner and I was nervous with our table... thinking we'd be bumped into all night, it was so loud and very busy but to our surprise we really just had the best experience. Tanijah was our server and she was the sweetest most fun young girl we've had as a waitress in a long time. The good was excellent as well. We will for sure be back and requesting her too!

The food was amazing! We started with the patatas bravas and crispy brussel sprouts and both were amazing. For entrees, my wife had the mushroom tacos and I had the chicken dish. We loved our meals! It was a busy Friday night so the service was a bit slow and the restaurant was pretty noisy. But the food made up for it all. Highly recommend!

The bar program is amazing and creative. Brunch starters like the Brussels sprouts and taquitos are amazing. Brunch entrees are good, but not as outstanding as the starters. The best cocktails in the area.

Last night, we had a delightful Holiday team dinner by the Christmas tree at Blackbird. The food was fantastic, and the staff was exceptionally friendly. I highly recommend the experience.

It was really not good. Poor service. Salads over dressed, sashimi was hacked into thick pieces - again over sauced. They have a long way to go if they are gonna make it. Gave it 2* since they are relatively new.

Have visited for both lunch and dinner and love this new addition to New Canaan. Amazing cocktails, sushi, and global menu. Service top notch.

I was treated to lunch today here by a friend. We were both impressed with the food and the service. The menu is mostly mix and match small plates and that suited us very well. The $24 prix fixe lunch provided an impressive amount of food and lots of selection choices. A very good value for the $$. The only thing that would have improved it would have been to be able to swap out some of the entree/appetizer portion sizes for a dessert, ie, a little less volume in the first courses and then a dessert choice as part of the package. BTW we splurged on a dessert anyway - sticky toffee pudding. Delicious! The room is a little noisy and a little closely spaced, but at lunch that didn't seem to bother anyone. Don't know how it would feel at dinner.

Small menu selection but beautifully prepared and presented food that is very tasty! I enjoy sitting outside under an umbrella and enjoying a nice brunch or lunch.

This place is amazing. I didn't even want to take a moment to take pictures for the review. We had a Friday night reservation and the staff was top notch. We were seated immediately. The menu was diverse enough to cover a variety of tastes without being asynchronous. We had the cauliflower appetizer and it did not disappoint. It was cooked to be fork tender with perfect seasoning and the right amount of sauce accompanying. For the main I had the special of duck tacos and I can't recommend enough. The duck was so tenderly cooked and the side of rice and beans was elevated. My husband had the venison dish and was pleased as well. The piece de resistance of the meal was the dessert of Pot de Crème. It was the best version of this dish I've ever had and it's my favorite dessert. The chocolate was light and creamy, it had a fruit and whip cream topping that was perfectly balanced. The staff was so attentive the entire time. I highly recommend this spot and can't wait to go back.

Excellent burger - smash burger for to-go lunch. Was surprised at generous portions. Will be back.

Creative menu offerings - great bar, excellent service. A great addition to New Canaan's restaurant offering.

So good! Love the ambiance, great service. Love the clearing of table and "wash down" when plates are taken away so you don't have to eat next meal or desert on dirty table. Keep up the good work!
