"They love Minorcan Mike’s Datil products so much at Black Fly they have their own merchandise nook where guests can purchase all the sauces, dust, salsas, and more. At the table, choose from plate after plate utilizing datil peppers from Mayport Shrimp with datil remoulade to a pizza that tastes like a love child of the barbecue chicken pizza and sweet spicy datil sauce. Then there is the Minorcan seafood chowder laced with datils and a Caribbean bangers and mash featuring sausage made onsite with datil peppers." - Carrie Honaker

The food was amazing! We did make a reservation so we were seated in the private dining area. It was a Friday night and the place was very busy, louder in the main room. Our waiter and the bartender were extremely friendly, making us laugh the entire time. Will definitely go back on our next trip to St Augustine.

We walked to this restaurant from our nearby Edgewater Hotel. The food is top quality and presented beautifully. My husband has the tuna and it was delicious. I had the blackened flounder which was also great. It was a little spicy for my taste, but they are not afraid of flavor here. Your taste buds will thank you.

Google
Overpriced and disappointing. Tacky decor tries to be more than it is. There is a distance between well done tacky and just cheap tacky, maybe due to the age of the place. Seating wasn’t great, booth with very straight backs and worn out cushion. Our server was very nice and tried hard even if there were kitchen/bar delays. The “catch of the day” was already out at 7:30 on a weekday night, which is sad when you go to a seafood restaurant. Bread service was $8 with a very small loaf that reminded us exactly of the frozen take home baguettes from Costco. Wellington appetizer was bland with tasteless overcooked beef tips. Pitcher of Sangria took nearly 20 min to come out, but tasted like a bottle of house red dumped into a pitcher with ice and a few slices of fruit, no taste of fruitiness or juice. Ultimately just watered down wine. Entrees were better, but the quality wasn’t reflective of the cost. My wife’s tenderloin and shrimp consisted of fairly fatty beef tips. For a total bill of $220+ for 4 people, it didn’t deliver.

Google
All around a terrific experience. The service was fantastic thanks to our waitress, Caitlin. The poké bowl with ponzu was a refreshing starter that set the tone for the meal nicely. I was almost too full to eat the margarita pizza, which was delicious. Finally for dessert, we shared the crème brûlée which was perfectly sweet, creamy, and paired well with the tart strawberries. I look forward to dining there again and trying everything else on the menu.

Food was amazing! On the pricier side but worth every penny since every bite is delicious. Our server Erin was excellent. She was very friendly, professional, and helpful. She even had the kitchen split the meal that me and my partner were splitting for us. The restaurant was also very clean and well decorated. Definitely recommend

Google
Everything was fabulous. I wish we could remember the name of our server she was amazing, a smile that didn't fade for 90 minutes. The restaurant was full to capacity without an extended wait time. Please have your servers write their name on the receipt.

Google
I came to the restaurant for a cocktail hour during a wedding and the service was really great. The leadership and staff provided us were great and the private room was excellent for the occasion with plenty of space! I think the drinks were really good too and reasonably priced. I was able to try the fried rice, and I would say it's a 4/5 and the conch chowder a 3/5. Make sure you don’t arrive during peak hours or take ride share because parking is limited.

Google
This must be one the best restaurants in St. Augustine. The food is delicious. I had the lobster Mac and cheese that came with an extra tail on top. First time I have seen that. My wife ordered one of the fish specials that was also excellent. I highly recommend this place. Atmosphere got only 4/5 stars due to a louder than normal environment for this good of a restaurant. Probably due to several large tables. Shown below is lobster Mac And cheese that not only was dinner, but plenty left over for lunch the next day.

Yelp
Our chance visit to Black Fly will not be our last. The food, service, and ambience are completely worth your time. The presentation of the food equaled it's taste and that is saying something. It was so good we're considering going again tomorrow night.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner on 12/30. Even accounting for the busier crowd due to nights of lights, we were disappointed ... and eventually disgusted. My family of three had to wait nearly 20 minutes despite having a reservation. We eventually were seated in the shore room - not nearly as pleasant and environment as the main dining room, and as luck would have it on this night, also next to a party of about 20 that took most of the service's attention and rendered our service pretty inattentive. Reading the room, we opted to start with three dishes to share and feel out the meal from there. As it turns out, our salad had limp greens, the pizza had flaccid dough/crust, and the classically prepared red snapper was just okay. Our server had said it would be another 15 minutes or so for the fish dish (this was after we'd finished the salad and pizza) because of how busy the kitchen was, only for it to arrive literally 15 seconds after he walked away - though sadly it looked and tasted like a rushed dish, inexcusable for the price. We decided to cut our losses and ask for the check at this point. Turned out to be overpriced, too. And then came the disgusting part. On the way out, my wife and daughter stopped in the restroom, only to be greeted by not one, not two, but THREE cockroaches! Two of them dead, one of them alive and crawling around - suggesting that not only was the staff not paying appropriate attention to the restroom, but that there are some seriously gnarly underlying cleanliness concerns at this place. Needless to say we'll never be back.

Yelp
During our recent visit to St. Augustine for the Festival of Lights, we dined at your establishment per the recommendation of our Airbnb host. To provide frank feedback, our server, Cosette B, provided exceptional service and deserves a five-star rating. Unfortunately, the quality of the food did not meet expectations. We have enjoyed superior meals at comparable restaurants such as Pinchers, Red Lobster, and Joe's Crab Shack. Furthermore, the pricing was on par with higher-end establishments like Shula's Steak House and The Capitol Grill. Considering St. Augustine's status as a tourist destination, the food quality did not justify the cost. During previous visits to Longhorn and Outback Steakhouse, complimentary bread and butter typically preceded the main course. Therefore, I inquired with our server, Cosette, about bread. She recommended the Blackfly Bread Service, priced at $8.00. Regarding our entrees: my fried shrimp and fries, costing $26.00, were unfortunately subpar. The fries were cold and soggy, and the accompanying green beans were undercooked and hard. My wife's Slammin Salmon, priced at $35.00, featured overcooked rice with some uncooked grains. However, the crab-stuffed salmon was a positive aspect of the dish. My mother-in-law ordered the Beef Wellington appetizer, priced at $18.00; however, the value proposition was unsatisfactory. The dish consisted of three very small pieces of steak wrapped in a breaded pocket, failing to justify the cost. High prices do not guarantee superior quality; this instance served as a regrettable lesson. The ambient noise level was high, necessitating the use of raised voices for effective communication. Definitely will not return, if we ever come back to Saint Augustine's

Yelp
Atmosphere is pretty casual but the food is so unexpectedly amazing! I'm a local and surprised I only just now gave Blackfly a try. Everything was fresh, delicious and seemed like it was made from clean, quality ingredients. If you're a drinker, the bar will not disappoint. A nice spot for a date night or a girls night! Our waiter was very attentive and the entire staff was warm and friendly.

Yelp
One of the best restaurant I've been in St. Augustine. This place was recommended by my in-laws since they mentioned this place has great seafood dishes and indeed they are correct. Inside looks decorative with fly fishing decorations and different kind of fish display which helped kept my son distracted. We scheduled a reservation since we heard this place will be busy on Friday night. Service was great, our server was descriptive and polite. For drink, got to tried their Silver Eclipse, from the drink special menu, which was tequila with raspberry liqueur and blackberry purée. For food, we started with the Bahamian conch soup followed with the Brazilian Moqueca. The conch soup was tasty and fresh and the Brazilian Moqueca was one of the best coconut fish dish I've ever tried. Overall, this was an amazing restaurant to go for dinner around Anastasia island and will definitely come back to try their other dishes also.

Yelp
The service was abysmal. 20 mins late on reservation. - gave them a pass. At table. Waited 35 mins for salad and apps. Never asked if I needed anything. A drink maybe? Apps came. Waited 40 more mins for entrees. My pork chop was ice cold and the dipping/sauce was literally cold out of the fridge. No joke. Never once "how is your [late] meal? Food? Do you need anything? ". Nothing. Food good but not good enough for a 2 hour dinner

Greg L.

Yelp
As soon as you pull up you get that 'this is going to be good' kinda feeling because it looks like one of those hidden outta-the-way places that doesn't care about decor near as much as the food coming out of the kitchen. And guess what? You're right! It's passable inside but the food is first rate. The fish is cooked perfectly whatever the catch. The Jasmine rice is special and the clam chowder is the best I have ever had and I've had it all over the country. Don't not get it. The staff is very very good. Oh, the Key Lime pie is good but not great. This place is "pricey" but if you're in St. Augustine all week this place should be at least one of your dining experiences.

Spencer C.

Yelp
Blackfly is a great spot in St Augustine. They have a combination of fine dining and bar seating. The wine selection looks extensive and the cocktails are a treat. We started with conch fritter cauliflower and shrimp appetizers. All were delicious. We had several main dishes including mixed grill. Sheepshead special. Surf and turf fried rice and the bangers and mash spin with Portuguese sausage. The banana bread pudding didn't disappoint either. Our server Ava was very attentive and friendly. Looking forward to round 2 at this restaurant at some point in the future.

Yelp
GROSS. My husband's second draft beer had a huge booger/loogey in it and when it was brought to the attention of the wait staff, they never apologized or even offered to comp him a beer. When our $250 check came, we had to ask for the manager for the courtesy of comping the disgusting beer situation. When the manager came over 10+ minutes later, he said, "haha I heard you got some special sauce in your beer", which we had not found especially funny. Their explanation was that the tap lines sometimes get corroded, again... gross. So they reduced our bill by $7.50. One of our party ordered the most expensive thing on the menu (lobster MacnCheese), which was fine but when ordered, asked it they could sub a different side for the ciabatta toast, which was denied. Then when the entree came, it was absent ciabatta toast, so that had to be requested. We're a pretty low maintenance crowd, but we won't be back.

David B.

Yelp
Dave our server was the best. Knowledgeable about the menu with a few favorite recommendations. I recommend reservations as this gem is busy. The food was absolutely delicious. I do not recommend the muscles. There were only 5 and they were tough, really tough. Drinks were spot on. The atmosphere was pretty cool also.

Lori G.

Yelp
Enjoyed our dinner immensely, including the service from julian. Fried mushrooms, scallop appetizer, cesar salad and pizza were great. Definitely will return when we're back in this area.

Lynn P.

Yelp
I visited this place three years ago. It was just as horrendous as it was tonight. They do not have the capacity serve a number of people I ordered conch fritters and it's been 40 minutes. I know they close in an hour and they're still a ton of people waiting, but the service is terrible. What I've seen is terrible. I won't be coming back that.

Kathy L.

Yelp
Delicious food and drinks! Atmosphere somehow didn't fit the menu, as it is super casual with a beach bar type of feel to it. Yep, upscale food & pricing but not the ambiance to match. We started off with cocktails including a Peach Lychee Martini & a Prickly Pear Martini. Both were wonderful. We then enjoyed cups of conch chowder which was thick & spicy, so very good! The conch fritters were also delicious! Main courses were the scallops with angel hair pasta, the pork chops, and the lobster tails. Again, great stuff and everything was cooked perfectly. There was a long delay on our main courses for some reason. However our server was upset about it also and offered us free desserts to compensate. We all shared the crime brûlée of the day which was coconut lime, and also the banana bread pudding. Both were amazing!

Jerry O.

Yelp
The food here was good. Typical seafood choices. Service and ambiance were ok. I would have enjoyed it more if the service were better.

Victoria B.

Yelp
Great place for high quality seafood. We typically get seated in the back room with a reservation (although we greatly prefer the room to the left of the hostess stand). The style and ambiance of the restaurant greatly varies depending on where you're seated. The ahi tuna was perfectly cooked. The pork chop was cooked to a great temperature. The drinks are always amazing and have a great rotating menu.

Connie O.

Yelp
Great seared salmon, the best I have ever eaten. All the food was wonderful. Dave gave a super service! We'll be back!

Felix F.

Yelp
Very welcoming. Friendly staff. Perfect wait staff. Drinks pretty much a slam dunk. The conch fritters to die for. Oh and the pizza is out of this world! Most Def Recommend!

Ernie S.

Yelp
The food ambience and service was outstanding! The key lime coconut pie was one of the best we ever had!

Donna D.

Yelp
Food was great, service was excellent. Good pre-concert meal, would definitely return.

David F.

Yelp
The fly fishing island vibe is fun and relaxing. If you can't get a table, the bar is lively and a good second seating option. We went for a light meal and drinks. They were out of the oysters special unfortunately. So we opted for the chili lime shrimp, Mexican street corn salad and tuna poke. All were delicious and just what we were looking for. The Blackfly rum runner is very well made. White Haven Sav Blank is also a nice choice with the seafood.

Don C.

Yelp
Got right in. Service was good. Interesting menu and specials. Nice drinks and good selection on the menu. It is a bit pricey but that's ok. Has plenty of free parking. Definitely going back.

Peggy M.

Yelp
Worst experience I have ever had. Even after telling the owner how unsatisfactory the food was after an hour and half wait, he was extremely rude and could care less. Extremely overpriced and horrible food. He asked us to never come back and I promise we never will and I hope you don't waste your time or money either.

D L.

Yelp
I will not provide photos, but when you try to experience what is thought to be a great restaurant and pay 38 for over cooked scallops (yes, I prepare better) and 48 for over cooked Duck! This is not a recommendation. Staff is efficient and courteous, but I only pay for value and preparation of entree. Save your money and strike out somewhere else less expensive

Sandra H.

Yelp
Overview: 5/5 A nice restaurant off the beaten path of downtown St. Augustine. Great seafood and cocktails. Ambiance : 4/5 Nice decor with a Bohemian feel. Not overly upscale but the food was outstanding. Food/Drink 5/5 Best Mojito outside of the one in an Juan Puerto Rico. We brought a bottle of wine with us ($20 corking fee) but worth it for the birthday weekend. I had the twins lobster tail special. It was delicious! It came with creamy mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley. The birthday girl has surf and turf. The steak was done to perfection and lobster with truffle butter was spectacular. We ended with the triple chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream dessert. It was delicious. Service : 5/5 Spot on. Got the order right, pleasant and attentive to our needs. We got a birthday dessert on the house!! Conclusion : I would definitely go back especially since it's off the beaten path of the tourist area of Saint Augustine!

Sniper B.

Yelp
I have been driving past this place for a few years and wanted to try it. So my wife and I stopped thru to finally give it a chance. Food was great. Way better then we expected. She has the pork chop and I had the steak. The appetizer that we got was NOT worth the money. It was the Ginger-Chili Steak tips. They were great, but 3 small steak bits are not worth $15. You can get a 16oz ribeye for $21 at the roadhouse. I do recommend this place. But I don't recommend the parking. The parking is the worst. Someone blocked us in with a big truck and we couldn't get out. So park along the street if u can find a space. Waiter was decent. Ambiance was good as well. We didn't try the bar, so I can't review on that just yet. Maybe next time.

Rebeca F.

Yelp
Great food, great place, great attention. They are open to make little changes to pleace you and your family.

Alyssa F.

Yelp
Horrible, menu very disappointed. We raved about this place for years. Seems like big menu change, and not for the good.

Nina T.

Yelp
Service was VERY slow, almost 40 minutes for drink orders. The server is very friendly. The kitchen and bar must have been backed up or short staffed because the drink, apps, and entree wait time was really long. I hope this is not the norm. The food was pretty good, I ordered the surf and turf fried rice, and my partner scallops. The fried rice was really close to over salted. The steak and shrimp were good, but the steak was more medium well than I would prefer. Scallops and pasta were good. Nothing phenomenal, but good. Restaurant is outdated, but quaint and clean.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
It's hard to decide which was better - the food or the service. Thoroughly enjoyed our server, Ireland, and the excellent food! We ordered a Caesar Salad, Meatlovers Pizza, Surf and Turf Fried Rice, and Brownie. Everything was excellent; we can't wait to return to St Augustine JUST to dine here. It was an excellent way to enjoy our wedding anniversary.

Diana S.

Yelp
Certainly not fine dining as the website suggests. The food/menu is more align with fine dining than the decor and the gift shop let on. I started with the ginger chili steak tips and they were my favorite dish of the night. They were balanced with sweet and spicy and the meat was very tender. For my entree, I had the scallops and capellini over a bed of arugula. Scallops were cooked perfectly with a hard sear and nice color. Funnily enough, they played the prettier side of each one upside down. The noodles were a bit bland when not eaten in the same bite as a scallop. A dining companion had the blue crab with capellini and it was missing a lot of crab. We asked the server if this was standard, she replied it was not and promptly fixed it. It came back with nice lumps of crab meat. My other dining companion had the mushroom Wellington, which was bursting with flavor and so creative. The food missed a few points but the service is excellent.

Mick M.

Yelp
Okay, so we ventured out and went across the bridge after a total bust at another restaurant. Which was overpriced crap- the best thing there was Cyrus the singer-who really should be signed already to a contract. Anyway, went here and had the pleasure of meeting Ross -our saving grace. Pleasant surprise-worth the trip, great lobster fritters and wine list . Ross rocks!!!

Dustin G.

Yelp
Food, Service and ambiance all exceeded our expectations. It had a great vibe in the bar area. Black Drum Fish, Lobster Thermadore and Thai Shrimp Rice Bowl were all top notch delicious.

Richard M.

Yelp
Once again they don't disappoint. Pork chop, crab and an old Fashion. Andrew was our server. Ask for him and I personally guarantee you will have fun!

Michael T.

Yelp
The restaurant is located near the Bridge of Lions on the Anastasia Island side. Parking is bad. Be prepared to drive around endlessly looking for a spot. The food was good but the atmosphere was was noisy and very much a bar crowd. Dress is casual. The menu was interesting and had a variety of choices but the taste was average and nothing sensational. The bread pudding was ok but not my favorite.

Rick C.

Yelp
Blackfly is too small. The bar area is too small. Steaks are good. They don't put gravy on a filet like some other restaurants in the island. Their old fashioned cocktails are made well using the right mixes. I cancelled this reservations and received an acknowledgement of the cancellation. However my review is based on the multiple times I have dined there

Martha W.

Yelp
Excellent service, food was delish!!!! Highly recommend!!! Menu is varied and love the fresh seafood

Spencer B.

Yelp
Came here for date night, very good food was just a little to loud for as nice as it was. Tried to order the scallops and was told that was not the correct choice so changed my order to the blue crab pasta which was great, 3 apps and 2 entrees and 2 drinks for 125 dollars i felt was a great deal for a nice date night. Met the owner which sells his art hung on the walls it was nice and beautiful inside.

Michele W.

Yelp
Located just outside of downtown St Augustine this is a solid choice for upscale tasty food and great service. Super attentive server Matt offered menu direction based on our questions- and he was spot on. Food - Mexican corn salad - outstanding - spinach Mexican street corn tortilla chips red onions and some great Chao risotto vinaigrette and a ranch crema sauce were the perfect foils for beach other. Chili lime shrimp - great flavors. Dinner was the scallops with capellini - scallops cooked perfectly and salmon topped with crab was delicious. Dessert was the banana bread pudding with salted caramel sauce (yum) pecan crumbles and vanilla ice cream. Decor ok better than alot but still the old look wooden slats chairs. Wall murals, art for sale and funky art work give it a quirky look

Kelly M.

Yelp
Something for everyone even if you don't like seafood! Great salads add grilled chicken Great pizza!

Paula T.

Yelp
We dined at the bar Tuesday night. The bartender who waited on us was very attentive and was helpful with food and wine suggestions. The manager was instrumental in in getting a late food order for us. The flat iron steak was cooked to perfection. Best meal we had in Saint Augustine!

Shelly T.

Yelp
Amazing food and awesome service from our waitress Ava, would definitely go back and would highly recommend it.

Ray D.

Yelp
Food was horrible and the waitstaff would only offer us water for our meals! Wasn't a pleasant experience for our 31st anniversary dinner!

Cassey D.

Yelp
I would probably come back here to sit at the bar. Bartending service and drinks I give 10/10. Would probably order the pizza. Otherwise the food was not good. I think they ran out of ingredients in the kitchen bc my entree was missing several things and it came out bland. They were also out of the slamming salmon which I think is one of the best dishes in on the menu. Busy time of year for the restaurant so I'm sure it's probably not always like this .

Larry T.

Yelp
Brought some family from Canada for what turned out to be a phenomenal dinner. Started with a citrus basil martini. Very basil-y just as I hoped, great blend of flavors. Got conch fritters, the most authentic and delicious in town served with a datil remoulade, as well as a great spin on a artichoke dip to start. Three of us ordered the surf and turf fried rice and we're blown away. The other three split two pizzas and salads (added anchovy to the Caesar was a great touch) and even had some left over! Finished with ice cream, creme brûlée, and bread pudding and could not have been happier. By far the best part of the night though was our server, Daniel I think his name was? Tall hunky, glssses and dark hair. His recommendations were spot on, he knew the menu like he wrote it himself, and his attitude set the atmosphere. 10/10 will be back!

Anita E.

Yelp
Great food for sure!! Conch fritters were Probably some of the best. The scallops appetizer was amazing. The pizza was delicious!! Great crust. Need to have some salad dressing in hand. We eat pizza with Bleu cheese dressing and they didn't serve it. It was super loud in there though. Wish they would invest in some sound deafening. Super loud.

Christina B.

Yelp
This is my favorite place over the bridge in St. Augustine! I have to eat here at least once every time I'm in town. In this case, I went two nights in a row! The first night, per the recommendation of the manager, I had the dynamite salmon. Featuring Togarashi spiced nori wrapped salmon mignon and topped with a spicy crab aioli, tempura fried sushi cake, wilted spinach and finished off with an avocado-wasabi mousse. This entire experience reminded me of my favorite sushi place in Charlotte but BETTER! Every single bite was delicious and I look forward to trying it again!! The second night I tried their pizza. I was not disappointed in that either. I ordered the Mediterranean featuring olives, spinach, roasted red peppers, artichoke and goat cheese. Also another dish that was worth every bite. I would be willing to be that everything is good on their menu. They have a huge selection of whiskey and bourbons, so if that is your thing...check em' out! Their wine list isn't so bad either!

Jerry G.

Yelp
Stopped by here otw to a concert at the Amp. Had some apps and drinks. Food and service were top notch. Nice atmosphere too, we will definitely be back.

Laila S.

Yelp
The food was fine. The service was terrible, and it was incredibly noisy and lacked any sound proofing. I had terrible food poisoning from the raw tuna, and it was overall extremely overpriced.
