My first (and probably last, honestly) experience at BH Tavern was very... underwhelming. Someone else said it in another review, and I agree that "meh" is such a perfect way to describe the overall feel of this place. My sister made reservations for dinner on a Thursday evening in the event that the dining room was busy when we showed up; it turned out that we didn't need to make the reservation (5 adults and an infant), but I could see that weekends may be a different story for larger groups. It seems like your run-of-the-mill classic type chain restaurants, similar to like, a Chilis or Applebee's maybe.
It didn't take long for our waitress to stop by the table, but I could sense that she was feeling a bit annoyed, maybe? I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, but the entirety of our interaction with her throughout the course of our dinner were nothing short of awkward. She was pretty curt to us from the get-go. I tend to want to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I personally wasn't too keen on the vibe.
The table started with the blistered shishito peppers and fried pickles, which came out pretty quickly and were both pretty tasty - the peppers were my favorite of the two, but both were a hit with everyone at the table. I and another in the group had the Black Haus burger as our main course, and there was also a harvest salad, prime rib French dip, and vegetarian Cuban. The burger was just okay, but there was really no noticeable difference in the flavors of the ingredients used; there were onions and other toppings, but it all just tasted like the grill. It was surprisingly disappointing. My grandfather had the same feeling about his own burger. My grandmother, who ordered the harvest salad, was also very disappointed when she learned that the dish was served cold; there is no explanation of this on the menu itself and she didn't know to ask. The Cuban and French dip were hits with the other two members of the party, though lol. They ate every last bit off their plates!
I'd say the best part of the meal were the appetizers... specifically the peppers, and everything else was underwhelming for me personally. The price points are reasonable enough that I can't really say I am too torn up about the experience, but like I said before, I don't live in the area so don't think I'll be giving it another shot anytime soon.
