"A sandy, two-mile strip of sand flanked by dramatic bluffs and some of the most serious swells in Southern California. (Beginners, you've been warned.) Surf aside, Black's is also a nude beach where some people do still sunbathe in their birthday suits. The most common access point—from the Torrey Pines Gliderport where you can park for free in their dirt lot—is also the most precarious. It involves trekking down a steep trail of concrete, sand, and steps. If the tide is low, you can walk over from La Jolla Shores (three miles south) or Torrey Pines State Beach (two miles north) instead. If you pray for surf, you'll be rewarded with epic swells, particularly in the winter. Otherwise, we suggest laying out on the sand and enjoying the dramatic landscape. With bluffs this tall, it feels like it's just you, the ocean, the other beachgoers, and the occasional paraglider." - Archana Ram

Google
Stunningly beautiful beach!! It was super quiet on a weekday afternoon. Why might that be... It's a biatch getting down there! Wearing good sneakers was helpful. The treck back up was also no picnic. The naked men was a complete surprise!! I wasn't offended... Just not expecting all the ween. Prepare your children, folks. Absolutely worth it though!!

Google
Black sand beach. You can reach here by trailing down a cliff which takes around 20-30 mins from Glider port. You can do gliding here which costs around $175 per person. The view is amazing from the cliff and its good for sun bathing in the black’s beach.

Joey Spendlove

Google
Great beach set at the base of the cliffs. Amazing back drop and listening to the waves is awesome. The dress code is friendly to all, it’s totally optional and you’ll see people running along the beach, playing volleyball, sun bathing, and swimming, all in the nude.

Joel Wright

Google
Clean beach with a very laid back vibe. Clothing is optional and you'll find a great mix of people of all kinds; yet not to crowded. While no lifeguards are stationed at the beach, beach patrol does drive by regularly. Please know that there is a hike down the cliff wall from the parking lot. While not technical, the hike is steep and caution would be advised. I would not recommend the hike for those with mobility issues.

Derek Smith

Google
Absolutely love blacks beach. It’s wide an open allowing plenty of space. It’s also a great place to use a a midway point for walking to the la Jolla trails and the pier to the south. I’ve got to try the parasailing one of these day :-)

Jesus Palmas

Google
Love this Beautiful beach, is a long way down from the glider port, no restrooms on the beach so plan ahead. You can sunbathe nude or clothed, no one really cares, so give it a try, if you haven't been there.

Tim O'Neill

Google
It is not an easy traverse down the cliff trail or back up. But, definitely worth it for the beach and the views of the para sailing from the beach was just as awesome as watching it from the trailhead. If you didn't zoom in enough on the map, then just like us, you didn't see the "clothing optional" description. So, that was interesting to discover once we reached the beach. I've been to German FKK beaches, so I really didn't care.

Fred Brown

Google
This place has a great view on top of the cliffs and parking is very easy. The hike down is a bit rough, if you have little ones or a lunch try to pack light. Once you hit the beach it's huge and plenty of sand for everyone but be AWARE this is a nude beach and it seems like it only attracks older more mature people. First experience going to a nude beach and I wasn't impressed.

Yelp
Absolute freedom kind people made new friends every time I visit no discrimination here all are welcome fun under the sun and several fun moments

Yelp
Looking for a nice hike and a day at the beach all in one. Go for Blacks Beach located in Torrey Pines. Today was a nice busy day. Know what you're getting yourself into when you go, this is a nice beach. Great place for a full body tan. The hike down is worth it and the hike up will have your exercise rings closed for the day. Perfect for summer beach days.

Yelp
I'm not going to post a rating here (yelp is making me do it), but parents, this is a CLOTHING OPTIONAL beach. Just a warning should you be on a college tour with your family. It is right across from UCSD. Watching the hang gliders take off from the edge of the cliff is beautiful. The steps/hike down to the beach are steep and uneven. The hike back up? I think I saw the face of God. Seriously, steep. And I was wearing sandals. My fault on the footwear decision. The beach is gorgeous and pristine. We saw a number of people fishing (yes, they were clothed). But, to my surprise (should have researched it -- again, my fault), the beach is clothing optional. I wasn't prepared for that. But, we do laugh about it now

Craig S.

Yelp
I'll forgo the pictures, because as I'm now aware,... this is a clothing optional beach. Which means... gonna be like the men's locker room at your local YMCA (aka: old men aggressively air-drying). Yep, the ratio leans heavy to guys. Plenty of clothed folks but just as many in the buff. Other views include, gliders up above. Feels like a hot air balloon launch site. The hike down isn't bad, just lots of stairs if you come from the glider port lot and down citizens trail. The beach otherwise is nice and well placed for sunsets

Andy A.

Yelp
Summer Nights in Blacks Beach, be prepared to enjoy your evening with a beautiful sunset. Definitely worth the hike back up to the parking lot.

Jamie S.

Yelp
Another great mini vacay... this is definitely my goto spot.. get to Blacks beach... get naked... trust me it's liberating and relaxing...my beautiful wife and I love this spot... we find ourselves wondering why... we are NOT NAKED when at other beaches.. lol

Bianca M.

Yelp
THE sunset spot. or a sunset spot. Gorgeous, glorious, go see for yourself! Go after work for a pick me up.

Derrick C.

Yelp
Blacks beach has always been a favorite for my little adventurous self to go to. It's a clothing optional beach and I participated in that option lol. However this time around going I don't remember the sand being as dirty/black as it was in the past. The one thing that will get you about this beach though is the hike that you have to do to get down to it. As long as you're not scared of heights you'll be fine.

Johnna G.

Yelp
hike down to Black speech was quite a good workout, and there was beautiful views. At the top of black beach. There was so many awesome parasailing type of people and that was really fun to watch. There was really good pizza at the top of black beach.it was fun to experience the new to be at Black speech. We did not find anything to be creepy. We just found the nudity to be entertaining and nice.

Benjamin D.

Yelp
Greatest day ever at gay beach under the cliffs with my boyfriend who lived in San Diego.

Brittney M.

Yelp
Decided to come out here alone last week. I'm in my early twenties and I'm a woman and I wanted a safe space to be able to get naked and be in nature. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had in general, ever. It was my first time getting nude in public outside and I loved every second of it. People were respectful for the most part. It was mainly seniors until it got a little later in the day and then I could see some guys that were probably early thirties to late twenties set up around me, each of them also alone and in different areas and could definitely tell I was getting stared at. It didn't make me uncomfortable, but I could see how it could make some people/women uncomfortable. My advice if this happens to my fellow ladies, just remember your intention and why you're there in the first place. If some random dude needs to hike down to blacks beach to stare at naked women and fantasize so he can sleep at night.. no sweat off your back. That's a sad life. Enjoy yourself, be free, be safe and bring water!

Billy O.

Yelp
Amazing clothing optional beach, the only bad part is the hike down a canyon but it's really not that bad if you take your time. It's very spacious so there's plenty of room for everyone.

Marissa Z.

Yelp
Im not one to write a review but I had such an experience here, I just need to share. I decided for my birthday I wanted to go to a nude beach (spend my birthday in my birthday suit). Me and my friends camped somewhere in San Marcos and drove about 30 mins to the beach. It is literally right next to a part of the UCSD campus. Parking is basically this dirt lot which we luckily got a spot. Okay so the beach. There is actually no signs around that say that its a nude beach but if you park where they do the gliders then you are at the "nude" beach area. Going down to this beach is a hike! I read reviews that said it wasn't too bad but if you aren't use to hikes and are afraid of heights I would be careful. There are wood stairs and dirt zig zags basically going down the mountain. I would definitely not recommend bringing anything too heavy or on wheels because you have to carry that up and down that hike. The beach itself is nice. They do have a section with cones heading towards the left side of the beach which I think is kind of an indicator that the nude beach ends there because I did see more family with kids on that side. I did get fully naked, the stereotype that old men go to these beaches is true. Lots of naked older men and men in general. The women generally just took their tops off but I did see other fully naked women too, I tried to be brave and went full nude but I definitely got some stares and a random naked older man did come up to me at one point in the water which was strange. The beach is very calm, no one is really blasting music and running around like another beach. Would be a nice time to read or listen to a book. Go for a walk along the water, or get a good tan in (wear SPF!) Overall I would go back, pack just enough and I would wear good shoes and just take my sandals in hand.

Joe T.

Yelp
Fortunate to have been here on more than one occasion, and have great memories to boot. Yet, none of those involve anyone else's exposed buttocks or breasteses. I'll remember the sun and the sand. I think of the laughs shared. Passing around food and drink that all are welcome to. Feeling joy and peace and calm and appreciating an area that might've been "founded" by an oil tycoon, but also, others. I found Black's Beach once. Maybe someone reading it found it too. And maybe someone else will find it soon. Enjoy yourself, it's a nice place to be.

Fausto C.

Yelp
Starting your walk, run or hike at Torrey pines state reserve, if there is NO high tide, going south, one could eventually go to Blacks Beach. It's has a really nice cost line, REALLY REALLY NICE. You may run into 1 or 2 exhibitionists but in my experience, that's about it. When I have gone for a morning walk/run, I haven't seen more than 10 people in a 2-3-4 mile range. Super peaceful.

Patrick M.

Yelp
Black's Beach is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. There are a few very steep trails that will lead you down to the beach. Think about packing light as it's an uphill trek getting back. The beach and it's surroundings are unreal. It sits under the cliffs of La Jolla Farms and Torrey Pines Golf Course. Pictures do no justice at all. The beach is huge so you have a ton of space to spread out with nobody close by. *The south end of the beach is clothing optional.

Melvin L.

Yelp
The "lil" hike before had my boyfriend at the edge of his seat.Definitely bring shoes with good grip. Great quiet beach otherwise.

Shawn W.

Yelp
Might not be a biggie for some but this is a clothing optional beach. There used to be signs that identified the clothing optional boundaries but I did not see those signs posted anymore. Just something to keep in mind if you go. Butt wait there's more. See what I did there. You want to know the naked truth about Black's Beach? See I did it again. Yes this beach might not be as accessible as many of the other beaches in San Diego (SD) but that is what makes it great at times. Many of the beaches in SD have become basic tourist traps and overcrowded. Also there is some great scenery and this beach is very clean due to the fact that it is a bit off the trail. Trying to find parking is impossible at times at the more popular beaches in the area. Not so much at this beach. It does get crowded but there is more than enough parking especially if you are willing to walk. If you are not willing to walk..... Well let me get to the next part of this review. It is a bit of a hike getting there if you want to take the shortest route. Not too difficult coming down and there are various trails that will lead you down. I will say stick to the trail with the stairs over the what I call "goat trails" leading to the beach. If you or someone is a bit timid of heights or have physical ailment problems then perhaps they might run into issues walking back up. Once at the beach and getting to the beach there are many great views of the cliffs and ocean. Go check it out if in the Torrey Pines area.

Yelp
Blacks beach is a wonderful place, if you want to do cardio it is the right place, if you want a full tan or just want to relax the way you were born, it is the right place ... recommendations:lots of sunscreen, put modesty aside and enjoy the beauty of the human body in all its forms

Yelp
I'm so glad I found this beach and asked questions to prepare. A fellow yelper was extremely helpful and thoughtful so I'm hoping to pay it forward. To get here: input Torrey Pines Gliderport into your GPS. It's across from one of the UCSD entrances. Drive to the very end where you will see hang gliders. There is street parking and also a dirt/gravel lot at the end near the "cliff." Don't panic, car isn't close to the actual edge. We came by on a Saturday while visiting UCSD and it was crowded. Today (Thu), plenty of parking spaces at 1pm. Once you park, walk towards the "cliff" but stay to the left where you will find the start of the trek down. We took the stairs version. It's not bad at all. We wore running shoes on the way down. If your shoes don't have great traction, just go slow and step down sideways to help. The view is beautiful. I'm 45 and in decent but not the best shape. Going on hilly walks can render my thighs kinda sore the next day :). I'm slightly afraid of heights but this wasn't bad. My 14, 16 year olds had no problems. We all had backpacks. You could bring down a light popup tent that you can sling on your back. Saw people walk down with surfboards and coolers although I think the cooler would be a pain to manage. The hike up was not bad. I thought it was a little easier. We wore our flip flops going up. As long as the flip flops have traction, you'll be fine. Just be mindful. Most people wore masks and very courteous. We swung left at the bottom of the steps. There were clothing optional people to the right but everyone was chill. My kids were among the few kids who were there. They were mature and nudity isn't a big deal to them. Plenty of space for everyone. The water was warm and nice. My kids said they saw sting rays and some fish in the water. My kids are great swimmers so got far out. As a non swimmer, it was fine for me, too. Shallow for a while. Sand was very soft! I'm glad we came here. It was a manageable hike down and up. From time to time, the lifeguards-patrols drove their trucks along the beach to keep an eye out. I hope this beach stays the way it is for the next time we visit SD.

Yelp
We were looking for a good "family hike" and due to traffic and limited parking, we ended up at Glider Point. Yeap, no clue that after a little of roaming around that we were on the path to the nude beach. The same area gives a view of Torrey Pines Golf Course where we were initially planning to go until we saw the "rattlesnake" signage and other folks familiar with the area said it was the prime season for them. Wandering around we found the cliffs and a trailhead. The hike down was perfect for the exercise we were looking for but when we got about 80% down, the youngsters were tired and made their way back up (unknowing :-)). I ventured down more and that's when I was like, wow this is great. Nude beach and it's optional. There is a natural beach divider that helps separate the beach area. I thought everyone was respectful during the time and are respectful to each other. Clothing optional is the keyword here for Blacks Beach. After some time, I decided to make my way to the water "trunkless" and I felt comfortable in myself and around others. I'm not much of an exhibitionist but again, I was comfortable with the environment. The walk back up the stairs/rocks is no joke! It's work, so make sure you bring some water or have something waiting in the car.

Shar S.

Yelp
Oh. My. Gara. If you've never been here before, or heard what it's like, GOOD LUCK TO YOU on that hike down LOL!! This was the craziest, most intense experience I've ever had at a beach. I'm still cackling even as I'm typing this! Lol. The view from the top of the cliff is AMAZING, but, I warn you, DO NOT look down if you're afraid of heights hahaha. My friends drug me here when I was in San Diego visiting, and I'm actually not mad at them haha. What a beautiful beach!! And another perk: once you get down to the bottom, you can get naked! LOL Can't wait to go back! Just a heads up: beach access for dogs is limited, so be sure to check the times that they are allowed before visiting.

Leo R.

Yelp
One of the best beaches in SoCal, water always clear and clean. My wife and I have been coming here for past 5-6 years but this will be the first review. Some visitors might complain about the steep trail but it's a matter of opinion and level of fitness. I suggest stay hydrated and make a few stops on the way up and you'll be fine, but I have witnessed an individual nearly passing out on the way up and required medical assistance. I would think twice about coming here for individuals with health issues. Bring food, drinks, adult drinks etc. but make sure not to leave any trash behind, keep in mind there is no amenities at the beach. Careful walking into shallow areas of the beach, number of stingray incidents have increased in recent few years.

Nina N.

Yelp
Nude beach! Nude beach! Nude beach! Beware. Not a family friendly beach. The farther down to the right you go, the more nudity you will see. There are two ways to get down to this beach. The trail and the hike down, maybe another one but I've only done two. I highly recommend the steps because the hike back up the other way is just horrible if you're not used to it. I'm from the south with little elevation and little cardio per week lol. Going down the hike by the neighborhood isn't bad, but going back up is horrific. I've done it like 3x and I hate it. The trail isn't too bad, kinda steep, so wear comfy and shoes that have some grip because there's a lot of sand that can make it much more slippier. If you plan on going here with family, go left and not right. The entrance to the nude beach is marked by a cone or something, but you'll know. If you're sus about coming here, everyone minds their business. If you're caught nude too close to the beach entrance/far away from the nude beach entrance you're going to be told to turn back around or put on some clothes.

Yelp
Black's Beach Trail Head 1.1m Intersection of 9600 Blackgold Rd n La Jolla Farms Rd We went early around 7:30 a.m. Plenty of parking. Pleasant weather. Nice stroll. Right place to get a good workout for your legs! Note: Hike up backwards. I find that to be much easier. - 2 hrs street parking - moderate - kid friendly - dogs on leash - partially paved Enjoy the hike and the view!

Arthur D.

Yelp
Black's is a little bit of a local legend. Every San Diego local knows about the infamous clothing-optional beach, and I can't help but laugh at the moronic tourists who claim they "stumbled upon" naked people at the beach. Exactly n o b o d y "accidentally" gets to Black's Beach, or "stumbles upon" the locals. The beach is only accessible via two obscure, relatively well-hidden, cliff-diving trailheads, the first of which (on La Jolla Farms) is steep and the second (near the gliderport) is steeper. And scarier. Getting to the bottom (or rather back up ) is WORK. If you "ended up" at Black's Beach, you knew exactly what you were doing and where you were going - don't be obtuse. I recommend the La Jolla Farms Drive pathway - further from the northern clothing-optional section of the beach, but nice and paved, and there appear to be restrooms near the bottom (not sure if these are open during covid-19. They may be for local residents only?) The gliderport path (which I've never walked, but looks SCARY) is carved into the cliffside and, while probably shorter overall, looks a lot more difficult. In my opinion, a hike is worth it. The beach is quite a bit quieter than most of the others in San Diego. While not the enormous white-sand span of Coronado or Mission, it's passable enough for lounging and great for walking. Surfing and swimming might be meh. There aren't throngs of people here like at most beaches, probably owing to lack of access, and I'd much rather contend with chill naked locals than hordes of inconsiderate zonies like at any of the other beaches in the county. I didn't experience any weird smells as reported in some negative reviews - it smells naturally salty, like any beach. There is indeed seaweed along the beach, but that's because Black's is located near a massive kelp forest, and kelp is a common occurrence at any San Diego Beach. As a man, I can't speak to the existence of "creeps," but the people I saw were keeping to themselves and seemed to be pretty diversified. In any event, I doubt anybody is going to try anything super weird in broad daylight, since there are other people around. The beach is relaxed, but hardly deserted. Not to mention, there's also the frequent visual spectacle of gliders winding their way around the cliffs. Honestly? It's a neat place; great for regular beachgoing if you're okay to hike. EDIT: One last thing. Dogs are not allowed here, and the lifeguards will yell at you if they catch you. It seems they only patrol the southern part of the beach near La Jolla farms.

Karla G.

Yelp
We are from out of town and it was our first time going to this beach. I did not check the reviews prior to coming here so I wasn't ready for several things such as the steep hill going down and most definitely going back up. I am not fit so I was so exhausted going back up and took several stops as I was already tachycardic and short of breath. Next, its a nude beach. Lastly, my husband did see a rattlesnake but didn't mention it to us until after the hike because he knows we will freak out and back out. Nonetheless, it has the nicest view from the top of the glider point and from the hill.

Larry D.

Yelp
I have been too Blacks Beach about 10 times. The first time my pervy best friend and I walked from La Jolla Shores and almost got pulled out by the high tide on the way back. The rest I went with friends and by myself. When alone I was but naked and forgot to put sunscreen on the most sensitive part of my body and almost burnt it off. My dick hurt for days. If you go down there use sunscreen everywhere. Its a fun beach and mostly adults there are a few that like to stare but try and ignore them. The cliffs are very dangerous so be careful. Experienced hikers should only use the trails . I almost fell twice and both times some men saved me from falling. Beautiful sunsets and a large open beach.

Leslie H.

Yelp
This beach is gorgeous but BEWARE! This is NOT a family beach! Nudists are prolific here. Plus, there is a STEEP hike down and then back up from the beach. (Not for anyone with bad knees, breathing issues, balance issues) Once we got down, we were not going to turn around, but it is sad when people have to obscure the natural beauty of the ocean by prancing around naked and doing yoga or whatever else. I'm choosing to see this natural beauty unobscured from the naked human form in grotesque positions. There are a lot of beautiful beaches in San Diego....really check reviews before going to one of them.

Jaron H.

Yelp
Amazing beautiful beach. Water is crystal clear. Hardly anyone around. Some nudes. Some not nudes. Everybody got along. But the if you want to be alone it's spacious enough to find your own stretch without anyone around...at least on the day we were there. Will absolutely go back.

Noah Y.

Yelp
Fun quiet, beautiful view I give it for stars it's a nice hike down you should at least try it once

Cameron O.

Yelp
Great beach for surfing. Less crowded than La Jolla, and bigger waves too. Highly recommend for intermediate surfers or anyone who wants a scenic view of the ocean and a mountainside.

Piggey M.

Yelp
2021 U.S. Open Championship TORREY PINES SOUTH GOLF COURSE June 14 - 20, 2021 The beach is still open, due to the golf tournament. Free parking. Just tell the parking attendant your going to the Glider Port. Watch for the ocasional tar on the beach.

Janette H.

Yelp
Great beach if you enjoy a good hike!! Loved it!! Great trails for light hiking too!!

Melinda B.

Yelp
Blacks Beach is BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!! First time I got naked on the beach and danced around naked with a group of nudies. I had a really fun time. There was like 8 of us, having some beers, dancing and grooving.

Asia Y.

Yelp
Usually wouldn't think to review a beach but I felt like I needed to warn others. THIS IS A NUDE BEACH in case you didn't see it from the other reviews. it's actually quite nice though and mostly everyone minds their own business. There was one guy who began playing with himself but another man had yelled at him. Also another group of guys took pictures of my friends and I so just be aware of that. Also PLEASE BRING WATER. I only know of one entrance to this beach and it's the steep hill with all the stairs. Make sure you have good shoes because the sand makes it slippery. I almost passed out going back up because the heat was so bad and it was such a long ways up so please be aware of that. Other than those few flaws it's honestly a nice beach.

Leah S.

Yelp
Gorgeous beach with a strenuous hike in and out. I found it well kept and not too crowded. Sunsets are gorgeous all over Cali but here, there's space to see the whole sky! I need to visit this pristine beach again, soon.

Alex K.

Yelp
I've been here so many times and this is actually the first time checking in and reviewing it. To start off, be prepared to trek down some stairs before actually reaching the beach. Oh, there's a pretty good amount of parking on top. It does get pretty crowded as it is near UCSD so you'll likely see students here and there. Back to the trek. Once you've reached the bottom where the beach is. It'll probably take you a couple of minutes to catch your breath before walking the beach. The whole stretch of beach is pretty wide and long. Don't be alarm, it is also a clothing optional beach. Whatever your heart desire. With your suit or bare your birthday suit. It's all ok to you. From what I've gathered, at the start seems to cater to every while if you walk down a bit to the right. That seems to cater more to the guys. Regardless, the whole beach is beautiful and fun. Park yourself wherever you please and let loose. No pun intended. Everyone is on the same page, having fun and enjoying the beach. There's also tons of surfer. I feel like they were all towards the left side as the waves seems better. Volleyball courts was also up for a game. Just having a stroll along the water and people watching was great. The weather was amazing. Everyone all seems friendly and enjoying themselves. People did social distancing as well as while walking had their mask on. But a lot did have it off but social distancing. Going back up, we did see another path that leads you up but that one seemed more treacherous as it was quite a steep uphill climb. Also looked quite slippery and narrow. Just be careful if you decided to use that way. Versus the main path that has stairs. From here, be prepared to take your time as going back up is a bitch. Also, from the top, it can get pretty busy with people out to enjoy the sunset. This place is amazing. Great beach, perfect place for people watching, let it all hang loose and enjoy.

Yelp
Freedom! Freedom! Freedom! Freedom! Freeeeeee-dommmm! I was looking for something fun to do with the husband and I came across Black's Beach online. It's a two hour drive for us down to San Diego, but the cliffs, ocean, and scenery are top notch! As is the nudity! Everyone is warning people about the less than 1 mile walk down to the actual beach. I don't know. I didn't find it particularly challenging or concerning. Maybe if I were in stilettos. I remember our carrying a huge umbrella, cooler, and supplies and not having any issues. What is EXTRA about this place is the optional nudity! It's very freeing for sure. We plopped down in a nice spot (we've been several times) and happened to be right next to the co-ed volleyball (all nude) game that was set up next to us shortly after we arrived. Very friendly folks for sure - we were asked if we wanted to join. Nope! I'm plenty entertained watching! But thanks for asking! I highly enjoyed ditching my conservative, southern, redneck Catholic upbringing and being and feeling free for a hot minute without fear of judgement. Why not? We'll be back!

Yelp
Even though so far I've only experienced the precipice of Black's Beach, I still have high hopes someone who possesses a key will offer me a ride to the bottom & back up again after I take a few (more) pictures. I missed my chance recently when offered a ride down, maybe there'll be a next time ;) This is a difficult hike, so if you have mobility issues, you might want to find an easier route than this one. This entrance starts in tony La Jolla Shores on La Jolla Farms Road. It's so difficult that the very brave have forged a trail within here & dubbed it the "Ho Chi Minh Trail". That trail has steep drop offs & narrow passageways. I found the first main loop doable, but barely. Keep in mind that I didn't have on proper shoes & all I had as supplies were my iPhone & a Red Bull in hand. Lol. I had actually come here & found "the spot" on a whim, so I did not have any gear & I was not prepared. I just decided to investigate. After reaching the bottom of the first loop, I stood & leaned on the guardrail for awhile & watched some of the most incredibly skilled young skateboarders. I could not believe they were doing stunts!, not just boarding down the second very steep loop, which appeared to be a 45 degree angle, but doing flips & rolls!!! It's so quiet & peaceful here. All you hear is the song of birds, the quietude of nature, the ocean from a distance & the occasional sound of skateboarders. It was nice to see that the young local High School kids were so engrossed in the skateboarding goals they intended to meet instead of making trouble. Great kids!! I decided to head back. Smart move because of my unpreparedness, plus I was alone. I don't believe this is a safe hike to do alone, just because of the sheer drops & heights. It took me much longer to get back up than it did down. Something special happened once I climbed back to the top. I saw something glistening in the sun, & headed toward it. It was a smashed coin. It said, "Lucky Coin" & had a big sun in the middle. I'd never run across anything quite like it & just kept the good fortune in my head. I didn't even think to Google the website noted on the coin until a couple months later, when I became more curious about it. There is a guy, simply named "The Happy Runner" who has a website listed on the coin, claimthisfind.com, which I finally Googled. As it turns out, the runner leaves behind these coins in many places during his runs for the sole purpose of brightening someone's day! He certainly did brighten my day!! The Runner asks you to post on his site where & when you found your Lucky Coin. He even raffles off a small item each month to a name he draws from these entries. Pretty cool!! There are other trails to access this beach, but I still haven't found one I can physically do. There supposedly is an easier path at The Gliderport, which I intend to try the next time I make a visit there.

Yelp
Nude people! Nude people everywhere. Men specifically. Nay, men entirely. After an hour of engagement photography on the beautiful overlook, we proceeded down the winding staircase for photos on the beach. It could've been the warm day or all the choreographed PDA, but that hike had my heart rate skyrocket. Get ready for a workout, my friends. Here's the kicker: After you've had your fun at this clothing-optional beach, you do have to climb back up. I'd recommend not going too late, as there is no lighting available. This is a beautiful beach. The expansive stretches of sand are perfect for a long walk or finding a secluded area to disrobe. Yes, I will continuously return to the subject of nudity, for this is the first nude beach I've been to that actually had nude people! The rhythm and crashing of the waves made for some perfect photos. There is no plot twist here; the fiancée and I kept our getup. We did stow away the shoes, however, for an exciting run into the temperate waters. We were not alone! Contemplative, naked men, arms outstretched, were also wading in the ocean. They were not part of our engagement shoot, however. After an hour of a breathtaking sunset and sinking our toes in the cool, soft sand, it was time to head back. As mentioned previously, plan on a little light! Fellow beachgoers used their flashlight apps to guide the way, which was especially helpful for those tall steps. Climb carefully! All in all, Black's was a wonder. Come and see. Let it all hang out.

Yelp
Yes, it's a nude beach but not everyone walks around naked. Don't worry, no one will be upset if you choose to keep your clothes on. It's not an easy hike to get down to the beach, but it's well worth it. The views are breathtaking. You don't have to hike down to the beach in order to enjoy the view. I think it's a great walk down, but some of my friends have had to take a few breaks on their way up. Ridiculous I know!!! I also noticed that there are quite a few surfers who come this way to catch the waves. Personally, the water is always too cold for me but I do love to lie on the beach and soak up the sun. I'm already planning my next visit back to San Diego. Blacks Beach will always be one of my favorite destinations. I'm sure most visitors will love it here. It's not far from most attractions in San Diego. Highly recommended!!!

Yelp
The rumors of this being a nude beach are indeed true. I've been a SD native my whole life and never ventured here until recently. To get here you need to head behind the glider port and look for some stairs. The stairs lead you to a roughly 1 mile walk down to the northern part of the beach where this is located. There appears to be a clear divider between the northern and southern part (where nudity is no longer aloud). For the most part the nude sun bathers and beach goers are respectful of each other. Clothing optional is the key word here for Blacks Beach as I kept my trunks on (I'm not much of an exhibitionist). The walk back up the stairs can be work so be prepped to have some water with you.

Yelp
Beautiful beach and you can take it all off. It's an amazing hike from the Paragliding facility on the cliffs down to the beach. It's worth the trip just for the breathtaking views on the way down. Once you get to the beach, you are greeted by the view of dozens of sun worshippers in their natural state. In our experience, the weekend crowd was heavily weighted toward older men, while the Monday demographic was much younger and more evenly distributed with regard to gender. Be prepared for the presence of families with young children on the weekends.

Yelp
I have only been there once and yes there were naked people. The climb down was dangerous and I don't know what it is like now. But it should be an adventure. Are beaches open under Covid? The sunset was beautiful and everyone should see a san Diego Sunset. Parking on the day I went to the beach was very difficult and on that alone, I may not return. There was lots of wildlife and I enjoyed that part immensely. We even saw a couple of dolphins. I have lived in San Diego all my life and that was a first for me. Also, try Coronado Beach if you are from out of town. Excellent and clean.

Yelp
This beach /hiking trail is located right next to Torrey pines glider port . It's about a mile hike down relatively pretty easy to moderate level hike .. the hike back up might be challenging for some especially after being in the sun all day . Theres's plenty of parking so arrive accordingly and park in the dirt / gravel parking lot . What can I say about this Beautiful hidden gem? Honestly , the panoramic views were breathtaking . This is a clothing optional beach with a mixed crowd of all ages , sizes and culture . Everyone was absolutely kind & friendly. Please be respectful. This is one of San Diego's hidden gems! If you are looking for a more secluded beach definitely come here !

Yelp
I grew up above Black's Beach, but when you look right down on it every day, eventually you stop thinking about it and don't even go to the beach much, so it was nice, to go back and visit it again last weekend. There are two basic accesses to Black's Beach. The first is a paved road (locked gate, La Jolla Farms Road residents are issued a key and parking permit sticker) that is about 1/2 mile down the road from the intersection of La Jolla Shores/La Jolla Farms, at about 9351 La Jolla Farms Road, and the other is a somewhat steep dirt hiking trail that goes down from the Torrey Pines Glider Port which is located off 2800 Torrey Pines Scenic Drive. Warning: do not attempt the dirt hiking trail after dusk. So unless you have the key and parking permit: The paved road is a longer walk, but easier to traverse. (Be aware: weekdays only two hour parking on La Jolla Farms Road!) The trail is shorter, but a bit harder, especially on the way back up. However you go down, be sure to bring some water because there is none down there, no restrooms, no drinking fountains, no facilities. There is no permanent lifeguard although one drives up and down the beach regularly. People used to pull into our long driveway towards the end of La Jolla Farms Road occasionally, thinking that it must be the beach access, before we set up a triple layer of automatic gates. My brother and his friends once painted the entire length of La Jolla Farms Road red, as a prank to keep people from parking on it, which led to confusion for about six months until the city finally came in and spray painted over the bright red curbs. There is actually a lesser known "goat path" that is right next to my parents' house there, which is used mostly by surfers, as they go down into the Box Canyon and end up at about the middle of Black's Beach. Black's Beach is a clothing optional beach. The legality of it has been debated via referendums and has been murky throughout its modern history, and after 1977 technically part of Black's is no longer nudist, but basically, once you're down that Glider Port trail, about 1/3 of the beachgoers are nude in that area. Most of the nude are men. When we went down last weekend she stripped down immediately, and was probably by far the youngest nudist at the beach that day, and one of only a few females I noticed who were nude the entire time we were down there. I kept my trunks on. :-) Black's has some great surfing, although you must be careful. When I was thirteen my cousin and I got caught in a rip tide here, and my uncle barely pulled us both back in. There can be sharks and sting rays in the water, although I have never encountered any. There tends to be some debris and seaweed/kelp in the water around the break. If you're willing to endure the not so immediate access, Black's Beach is a great spot to avoid the crowds, and experience some great waves for surfing.

Yelp
If a steep hike down the side of a cliff doesn't get your heart rate going, maybe the fact that Black's Beach is clothing optional will. Contrary to another Yelper's review stating tourists know exactly what they're getting by coming to Black's Beach, we were actually looking for an "off the beaten path" beach not overrun with tourists during our weekend getaway when we stumbled upon Black's. We enjoyed our time walking the beach and watching cliff gliders. The beach wasn't overly crowded, clean and overall beautiful.

Yelp
The beach entrance seemed very iffy being that it's a steep walk, There was plenty of sketchy people and what appeared to be homeless people too. What I did enjoy was that there was plenty of parking and it has a great scenic view when you're in the parking area. I would go alone just to sit and relax in the car but not past evening hours for safety reasons

Yelp
Another perfect day at the beach! Great sand and sun! The trip down/up is a nice little workout. Take it slow or you'll twist an ankle. I actually bought shoes for the walk and switched to sandals on the beach. But I'm a clutz. Once you reach the beach, cut right and lose the clothes.
