On the Grid : Lamplighter Morris St.

"With each new addition to its growing empire, Lamplighter tweaks its recipe—to continued success. The Morris Street location took a monochromatic approach to its mid-campus location, with white subway tile, steel furniture, hanging black lamps, and the star, a matte black La Marzocco espresso machine. Their menu is a little more robust here (more baked goods, different sandwiches), but the coffee is just as much of a priority as it always has been. Get your Lamplighter lattes, drip (always two different roasts), strong cold brew, in addition to fantastic teas and other specialties like the Golden Milk Latte—a turmeric/milk blend. For a deep-VCU location, the coffeeshop is filled with all sorts of creatives, activists, neighbors, journalists, and even politicians. It doesn’t hurt that the massive patio directly next to a shady, green pocket park." - Mobelux

Google
So charming, almost has a retro schoolhouse feel. Blanchards isn’t my favorite coffee in the area but it’s still good. I don’t think any location can be as busy as their broad st one, so I feel like this is a good one with more of a neighborhood feel.

This place was amazing. The staff was so accommodating. It was my husband’s and mine 32 anniversary and they wrote happy anniversary on a tray and gave us the most delicious’s coffee with a discount. Grateful for this place and the atmosphere the coffee is delicious.

I discovered Blanchard’s Coffee years ago when I was living in Richmond and on the hunt for truly good coffee beans. What started as a search quickly turned into a lifelong love. Their beans are consistently superb—beautifully roasted, rich, and deeply satisfying. You can taste the care in every cup. I also adore the attention to detail in their packaging: the little stories, the thoughtfulness, the sense that real people are behind every roast. This December, our subscription (we order the 5 lb bags) included a small surprise Christmas blend, which felt like such a generous, joyful touch. I haven’t even opened it yet because I’m completely devoted to Dark as Dark and Midnight Oil—they’re absolute staples in our house. Blanchard’s coffee fuels our days in every form imaginable: espresso, cold brew, French press, pour-over (especially while camping). I even bake with it—nothing elevates a chocolate cake quite like their coffee. I’m so grateful to support this local business, and it makes me genuinely happy to see Blanchard’s beans now available in stores here in Lynchburg. Exceptional coffee, thoughtful craftsmanship, and years of consistency—thank you, Blanchard’s, for doing what you do so well. ☕✨

Google
Blanchard's is about the vibe. Inside a retro-looking building, it photographs beautifully. Their coffee menu is simple, but good. I enjoyed the hazelnut latte and my wife liked their chai latte. They often have seasonal drinks on the menu.

Google
I truly enjoy the coffee at this location and have always had positive experiences in the past. However, during my visit this morning around 7:15 a.m., I was disappointed by the customer service I received. I was not greeted, and the interaction began abruptly with “What’s the name?” which felt unwelcoming. I understand that early mornings can be challenging, as I also work in healthcare and see patients at that time, but I make it a priority to remain respectful and courteous. When I was informed that my coffee could not be unsalted, I responded that it was fine and understood. However, when I asked for a drink tray, the response I received felt dismissive and unpleasant, as if I was inconveniencing the staff or being treated as though I come in daily. This interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. I value this establishment and hope this feedback can help improve future customer interactions.

Google
The coffee was great! I enjoyed the miso brown sugar latte with oat milk. There were a lot of people, but the line moved pretty quick and I got my coffee relatively quick. The place has fun vibes too! There is indoor and outdoor seating. They don’t take cash. A cool place to go to :)

Google
Delicious coffee (which I’ve come to expect with all Blanchard’s locations), yummy treats (vegan options), and friendly, knowledgeable staff. The oat milk lattes and pour overs are consistently fantastic. Another bonus is a great outdoor seating area that is adjacent to a cozy park. I highly recommend visiting. I’ve also read this store serves as a test location for new Blanchard’s coffees and other concepts. I will definitely be back!

Google
poor service, don't accept cash, & honestly is highly overrated. plenty of coffee places around that will take cash payments. used to try to come here because it's close & convenient. their food options suck. can't come here for breakfast, have to just grab your drink and make a second stop for actual, non-pastry food. but in reality, the biggest turn off about the place is not accepting cash.

Yelp
New fav Richmond coffee shop!! This is the cutest, cozy, light-filled Blanchard's location. I love the cafeteria-style community table and variety of outdoor seating too. The garage door windows are such a vibe. I got an oat milk latte and not only were the cups so cute but it was delicious!! Not a ton of seating options or plugs for working but a great spot to meet up with a friend for coffee.

Yelp
I got a flavored latte (hot). I honestly don't even remember the flavor combo even though I was there a month ago, but I remember liking it. I got my coffee to go and walked around the neighborhood, enjoying the cute houses nearby and seeing part of the campus. If I were a college student, I'd be there all the time. I don't live in Richmond but I liked it enough that I'd go back next time I'm in town or recommend to a friend if they are visiting Richmond.

Yelp
The bathroom and ambiance was very cozy. The coffee was just okay in my opinion and not very many options for food. I suggest this place if you want to get some work done or read a book versus bringing a coffee to go to enjoy!

Yelp
I prefer this Blanchard's location over the W Broad location! The vibe and aesthetic of this is super welcoming and cozy. The outdoor has plenty of seating, probably about 5 picnic tables. I tried the chai tea latte and it was SO GOOD.

Yelp
I witnessed some really nasty, unhygienic behavior by the staff and their friend. I watched a barista have a conversation with a friend, and the friend was putting their hands all over the espresso machine and coffee cups while picking their nose putting their fingers in her mouth. I also saw their hair touch multiple parts of the machine and the coffee cups. The barista then used one of those cups to make someone a drink. I made a complaint to the other barista working and she looked at me like I was crazy. I never saw them address it and they kept using those same cups that had her saliva, boogers, and hair all over them. Always get your coffee to go!!!

Yelp
I've tried the Forest Hill location and driven by the Scott's Addition location tons for times, but this location is off in the cut and I had noooo idea it even existed. This location is a coffee store, versus a cafe. From the front it looks like a garage, and you enter around the back (side?). It's super cute and kinda has an adult cafeteria vibe going on. It's been well over a decade since I had the pleasure of sitting at a lunch table -- the nostalgia =D According to their website, this location is their testing grounds for new offerings. The menu is really simple and easy to navigate and the service is friendly + fast. They also had a menu of seasonal options, which I ordered from. There's a refrigerator inside with bottled drinks and bags of coffee beans available for sale. For my first drink, I got the winter au lait which had vanilla, ginger and cardamom. IT CAME IN A REAL MUG AND NOT A PAPER CUP. For my second drink, I got an iced peppermint mocha. Both were good and they remembered my name when I came up the second time. Also got an Americano to-go for my partner. Such cute to-go cups! There's indoor and outdoor seating, and a teeny-tiny, (damn near microscopic!) park close by. Also- Did I mention that even the bathroom is cute af? Go here!

Yelp
The coffee was absolutely delicious! I got an oat milk latte, and the it milk they used was much better than what most other coffee shops use. The interior is also adorable. My favorite of the locations!

Yelp
Excellent coffee and excellent service. Ashley is the best barista I've ever had. She was unbelievably kind and deserved a raise!!!

Yelp
Both the interior and outside were very cute! I didn't have to wait long for my drinks at all and the barista was nice. I find that it isn't as crowded as the Broad Street location (at least for now).

Yelp
Good local roaster and coffee. Their midnight oil was very good/smooth. I enjoyed the reuse of the old gas station building and can imagine on a warm day the patio space being lively. The crowd was a wonderfully eclectic mix of VCU kids and others. I bought a bag of beans and that speaks volumes. Enjoy.

Yelp
Would give a 4.5 stars if I could. Great drinks and a few selections of snacks (cookies, muffins, scones, etc.). Just be wary that they do not take cash.
