The restaurant business is interesting. It's really a simple business but there are a lot of things that can complicate the delivery of food. The crazy thing is that at the end of the day a complication is always based on a person. Either the delivery driver didn't show up on time or somebody didn't schedule enough people, or they didn't train their people well or a whole host of other things.
In my review of my experience at this BLAZE PIZZA it totally comes down to one person. The manager. His name is Trayveon. I've been in this location multiple times before and the service has really been pretty good and pizza, for what you're paying for it it's probably not a bad value. And we all know American love affair with pizzas. The amazing thing is that about a mile away Mod Pizza recently opened up and I have to say, they have a much better selection there of topping than Blaze does. but again, the pizza at Blaze is not a bad value.
So last night the three of us walked into Blaze, there was absolutely no wait and this was at a on a Tuesday night. A young lady named Kayla instantly took our order which was three build your own pizzas and a salad. She was extremely nice and knew exactly what she was doing. Fairly quickly somebody started working on the salad and got it made promptly.
Then three wood paddles with dough on them were laid out, presumably to make our pizzas and there was nobody in line in front of us. There were probably seven or eight people working at the time and yet no one started working on our pizza, asking us what we wanted on them, making eye contact with us, saying we'll get to work on this in a moment, nothing at all.
So, we all patiently stood there and waited and kept watching people moving around and doing different things and talking to each other and they were making other pizzas, I have no idea who those pizzas were for but they were making them and putting them in boxes so obviously they were for some takeout orders. From the time I first walked in and was at the front of the line, till I asked a question about when someone would start working on our pizza order, was about 11 minutes. And again no one was in front of us.
Finally, someone in our party said, is someone going to start making our pizzas for us. And the person, who turned out to identify himself as the manager, Trayveon, said, "Y'all just have to be patient and wait, DoorDash orders always come first". It would have been nice for someone to have mentioned that to us long before that time but we're standing there waiting and nothing had been said. And he didn't say anything like, "We're working on these takeout orders we'll get started on yours in just a minute" or anything like that. So I piped up and said, "Wait a minute, customers are standing here you're not talking to us and you're just telling us that take out orders are gonna always get in front of us? "And he said, "Yes that's right and if you don't like it you can get the fu__ out of our store."
And so I asked him, "Did you just tell me I can get the **** out of your restaurant?" And he wouldn't answer me. That's a dead giveaway when somebody knows they're wrong. So I said to him, "Did you just tell me I could get the fu__ out of your restaurant and now you're simply not man enough to say it again?" And he looked at me, and in full volume and with a lot of intention, he said, "Get the fu** out of our store".
A young lady by the cash register who worked there said, "Sir I'm sorry but I'll be more than happy to take care of you here". I decided simply to do what the manager had said and I got the fu** out of the restaurant.
When you're in business, there's a couple of things you just don't do. You can reserve the right to not do business with anyone, but when you're in a public facing business like the restaurant business, you don't ever say it like that.
The interesting thing is that when they first said that DoorDash orders always come first, two people who were immediately behind us turned and walked out.
As we were leaving, somebody who was already sitting down with their kids eating pizza said, "Did he say what I think he said?", and then said I said, "I won't say it in front of your kids but he absolutely did." And he just said, "We won't come back here ever."
As I said earlier, the restaurant business is really a simple business, but some people really can complicate it. When bulls__ talks, money walks.
