My experience at BlissWood was pure bliss!!! And just what I needed on my solo vacation. I had last minute found this place and so happy it was available. I booked the Safari Tent and loved the whole stay! The ranch itself is beautiful, but I fell in love with the animals! It was amazing to say the least. I also took advantage of lots of the activities they have and that was fun also. I did horseback riding with Jessica, trap shooting and the safari tour with Skeeter and ax throwing and archery with Mark and they were all wonderful kind people that made you feel comfortable. And Carol was a delightful person to communicate with and made me feel right at home. I really didn’t want to leave! I feel very pleased I took this solo trip and hope to go back again. I will miss my new animal friends I bonded with especially the donkeys! Thanks for sharing your beautiful place with me.

Stayed here for 2 nights travelling from Canada, this place is absolutely amazing! I opted for the solo travel package they offer and it was incredible! The staff are so friendly and helpful, the cabin comes with everything you need! They offer an extensive list of activities and I had a blast participating in most of them! They also offer a horse ride to a neighbouring winery with some incredible wine! I highly recommended getting the DIY grill package it was so nice not to have to leave the ranch to get something to eat! I will recommend all my friends and family travelling to Texas to stay here!

We stayed at the enchanted cabin and we had one of the best weekends we have had in 10 years. We will definitely go back again soon, wife is already planning another trip. The owner is absolutely amazing and easy to work with and she stays involved to make sure your trip is everything you want it to be. Very caring staff and everyone is so nice and pleasant, you can tell everyone loves there job and love working there. Absolutely amazing.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Blisswood Bed and Breakfast for two nights, and it was an unforgettable experience. The cozy, warm, and incredibly romantic atmosphere of the vintage cabin we stayed in was just perfect. It felt so authentic and typical of the area, and the highlight was definitely the private jacuzzi on the back terrace—absolutely wonderful! During our stay, we also enjoyed some amazing activities: horseback riding and shooting. The staff were incredibly kind and made everything so enjoyable. One of my favorite moments was feeding the animals on the ranch—it was such a special touch that added to the charm of the place. Overall, it was a peaceful and unique experience. We would love to come back!

My dad and I recently stayed at BlissWood Ranch, and it was an experience we won’t soon forget! From the moment we arrived, we were completely in awe of the breathtaking terrain, the friendly and welcoming staff, and the beautiful accommodations. Every detail was carefully thought out, making our stay feel truly special. The peaceful atmosphere provided the perfect escape, allowing us to relax and reconnect with nature. I especially want to thank Sceetch for adding to the warmth of our experience. BlissWood Ranch is a hidden gem, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and rejuvenating getaway. Thank you for creating such a magical place!

This was an amazing place to stay. Skeeter, whose title I’m not sure of but I’m assuming is like the ranch manager, or head of guest services, is a very kind gentleman. He was very nice and informative and walked us through all the activities and gave us a ton of info about each thing we’re were involved in. Jessica, who was our horse ride leader was also very sweet and professional and she took care of us on our horseback ride. Overall this place was everything we were looking for. Private and secluded. Never felt rushed. The cabin felt like a second home to us. It was amazing. We hope to be back sometime soon.

We had an amazing time in Blisswood Ranch! My one year old daughter rode a horse for the first time and the staff was super profesional and made us feel safe. You can pet all the animals and they are so friendly! My daughter was inlove with all of them ✨. Carol, the owner was super nice with us. We had several activities (horse back riding, dude ranch package that includes archery and trapshooting and we had picnic sent to our cabin). The cabin was beautiful and cozy. Definitely, we are coming back again!

I would highly recommend visiting the BlissWood ranch! We decided to have our small wedding ceremony here and it was truly the best decision we could have made. We had such a beautiful experience. Carol and Skeeter were so kind, caring, and attentive. We stayed in the Hideaway Cabin. The cabin itself was stunning and so cozy, and the landscape was beautiful. We did not want to leave! Words cannot describe the happiness and serenity that we felt during our stay. We will definitely be returning. Thank you to Carol and Skeeter for making our experience so special and truly unforgettable!

Yelp
A great place to explore and get away for a while. We came to this ranch as a bit of an escape from the city life and rest our heads. We were going to do the safari tent but the tent got damaged. So we ended up in a little cabin in the woods instead. The cabin itself was simple, but had plenty of modern amenities. A stovetop, microwave, indoor bathroom and shower, hot water, hot tub, electric fireplace, and whirlpool bath. The space was small but intimate, clean and furnished but aged and worn. It's not luxurious living, but it has a ton of luxury items that one would not normally find in a venue like this. We booked some horseback riding and wildlife safari excursions. The horseback riding was fun, slow paced but as I never rode a horse before it was enough to get the feel of things. The wildlife safari was actually quite entertaining as well. You get up close and personal with deer, buffalo, bucks, donkeys, emu, and antelope. They very much know you got food, and watching a pack of stampeding buffalo barrel towards you for food is a very cool experience. The space is large and varied, there's plenty to see and lots you can do. It's a great space to take the family to and live as simple as you would like. The girlfriend dealt with logistics, but every interaction with staff or the owner was professional and friendly. Every part of the booking, modifying, and check in process was easy and everyone we interacted with was very hospitable. This was one of the highlights of our trip, and although our weather was not ideal we did make the best of it. It's a nice place to stay and worth the trek if you just want a respite

Yelp
Mystic Woods cabin and Blisswood have been an enchanting place we are sad to leave. Every little detail was perfect: our wedding that Carol performed, photos by Mr. Skeeter and all the details handled beautifully including flowers, cake and champagne. Our wedding was magical and the 3 days were so relaxing! Defense indulge Ina couples massage! We can't wait to return! Bryan and Jennifer Johnson

Yelp
I decided to take our little on a non brach vacation and this seemed like the perfect place to get away and relax. I booked online and picked the Lehman house solely based on the adorable photos. We were shocked when we realized this adorable house was a 4 bedroom, 2 story cottage. The kids ran around picking a room. I spent about an hour looking at every piece of furniture and decorations. We're a family of with two small kids ages 6 and 9. We bought the kid package, the animal feeding package, and the safari tour. We also rented a golf cart, which I highly recommended. The golf cart, and animal safari were the absolute best part of this magical vacation. We will definitely come back and visit.

Yelp
We went back for a second visit because we loved our first visit so much! Only ~1 hour from Houston, it's an excellent destination for either a family or adults only trip or maybe even a group/company retreat -- you can unplug and enjoy each other's company, also do some outdoorsy stuff. We enjoyed so much! - a safari feeding tour - bison, deer, emu, and more! - barn games (including axe and knife throwing, hula hoops, mini basketball hoop, corn hole, ring toss, and more) - animal feeding tour (lemurs, donkeys, goats, sheep) - s'mores - climbing trees - canoeing on the lake We didn't get to do these this year but they also had packages including kites you can fly and also horseback riding for kids or adults. There is also a fishing package. Cell service is spotty or lacking, but it's all the more excuse to unplug and enjoy your getaway. There is free wifi in their Show Barn (central location where they keep some of the animals and have a bathroom and optional games to play for a fee) but no wifi in the individual lodgings. Even in the middle of a covid surge, it would be peachy bc each party has their own individual cabin / house / RV. Only thing to note for those with babies or young children - some of their lodgings are vintage/restored (first half of the 1900s) so they may have lead paint or dust in or around those particular houses. We stayed at their Star View Cowboy Cabin, and it was perfect for our family of 4, with room for more. Last year, we stayed at their Texas Farm House, and that was awesome too but probably had lead paint/lead dust, which I didn't think of at the time.

Yelp
My husband booked 2 nights at the ranch for my 60th birthday. We stayed at the Hideaway at the back of the property; its basically a mobile home decorated to look more cabin-ish but still cute. We wanted the king size bed, nice pillows and sheets. I was disappointed we couldn't open any of the windows and there were no screens; i would suggest adding them at least in the master bedroom and maybe hanging screens on the front & back doors during Spring and Fall. The breeze was lovely and we really wanted the fresh air at night and to hear nature. The kitchen was great and had everything we needed. The unit could do with a deep clean, but overall it was fine. We spent most of our time outdoors anyway because that's the place to be. A BEAUTIFUL space. our own pond, the TREES, the firepit were perfect. The hot tub never made it hot enough to get in though the sign says it's always 101 it only made it to 97 right before we left. Carol was responsive so we didn't feel abandoned when we mentioned it. The location of the trailer is a "drive by" so whomever is staying at the Log Cabin or Farm house could see our place; it wasn't as private as I had hoped especially with the hot tub being out front (but we never got in it). In theory its a good spot to see the pond and trees, but a better place would be in the back. The cars were a little distracting but understandable. We did not take advantage of horses or golf carts or tours. We just walked ourselves 5 miles in and around the property. We never intruded if there was a car parked at another unit but it was a nice way to see how the property was laid out and where we might want to stay if we go back again. I think it's a really neat concept to share the space; I'd say a little on the pricier side as well but it was a very unique experience that you can't get just anywhere. East Texas if really pretty in the Spring. I would say this falls more in line with high scale camping which is great if that is what you are looking for! I almost forgot, the ROCKERS on the front porch was my favorite spot for morning coffee! great touch!

Best place on earth! I go often. Great staff. Plenty of privacy. Many activities to do. Archery, safari, horse riding, and much more!

Yelp
My family of 4 (with a 4 year old and a 1 year old) LOVED our 2-night stay at Blisswood!  Highly recommend for families with little kids, families with older kids, or adults with no kids. It's not a traditional B&B in terms of everything being in 1 building.  Rather, there are separate houses, cabins, RVs, etc. that your group can stay in. Great for COVID pandemic social distancing! There's even a Safari Tent that you can stay in, or a Conestoga wagon that's decked out with a shower, toilet, bed, and table inside. We stayed at the Texas farmhouse.  It was rustic and fit our family of 4 well with room to spare. There are many activities available here, if you like activities -- or you could just kick back and enjoy nature.  Among the many options are feeding farm animals, a safari tour with exotic animals, fishing, going out on the lake with a canoe (fits 3 people... but we squeezed on 4 people because one was only 1 year old) or kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Horseback riding, throwing axes/knives, barn games for kids & adults. Roasting s'mores. We brought our own food to cook & didn't try their continental breakfast option (they leave it in your house/cabin/RV). Lovely, lovely place to enjoy the outdoors.  Also, we were there for 2 days and my wife only got 1 mosquito bite!

Yelp
Blisswood, a unique experience in the woods of southeast Texas. The approach to BlissWood was a step away from everyday life, revealing peace and serenity as we passed huge moss-covered trees that opened up to pastures with beautiful white Paso Fino horses grazing. Our Mystic Woods cabin set back in the thicket was cozy, warm, and inviting. The outdoor spa and shower were a bonus. The Safari Ride got us up close and personal to hand-feed bison, deer, emu, and miniature burros. Really enjoyed the trail-ride, and the horse I rode, Duke, had an easy gait, and extreme responsiveness was a plus. Archery with the sun beginning to set was enhanced by the new families of goats in the pen, the horses galloping by in the pasture, and the curiosity of the miniature burros coming by to check us out. Carol, the owner, was always accessible and accommodating. The Guest Service director, Skeeter, was very entertaining, knowledgeable, and vigilant during the Safari ride, and more. Jessica was a great trail guide. This was a most memorable experience, and we recommend it most highly to any seeking a tranquil getaway in a ranch setting filled with many optional activities. We plan on returning soon ourselves.

Yelp
Had a wonderful stay at Blisswood. Everything was great from the staff to the horseback rides. We enjoyed a safari, a picnic on the lake, horseback riding hot tubs and just beauty all around. I'd give it 5 stars except the bed was uncomfortable.

Yelp
Overpriced and under delivered, that's what describes Blisswood. The sales job the pictures do here on this website is amazing, the images are incredible and lead to believe that this is a glamping or upscale stay, but they definitely are very disconnected with reality. We stayed at the Dog Trot House (we rented all of the two suites), the furniture is old and some of it needs desperate replacement or refurbishment, antic is ok but some of it is just falling apart. One of the cabins has a very bad mold problem in the ceiling that is a health and safety hazard. Nothing was really clean, cockroaches showed up dead by the handful every morning, and we even got to see a mouse in the kitchen cabinets. We were there 4 nights, after the first one we almost called it quits and left but decided to give the place and the activities a shot since we really wanted to have a few relaxing days...the trapshooting was fun and the safari was a blast for our 5yo but that was all we got to enjoy. The pool was useless because it is not heated, and even though the temperature was above 80 the whole time it just doesn't warm up, it wasn't also very clean. The horseback riding was so disappointing that the owner gave us back some of the money we paid for it. The fishing gear we rented at a pricey 200$ for 3 adults and a child was never used because the fishing lake has zero infrastructure for sitting and fishing. The Show Barn is just a dumping place for broken stuff and toys, is dirty and poorly kept, animals soil it and nobody really cares for it, the bicycles Are flat, the "archery" is just shooting at a plastic deer from 10ft away with a poorly kept arch, the children games are just junk that was left there and they leave to have you use it... The owner, Carol, was very responsive and we thank her, Mr Skeeter makes the safari lots of fun, but Blisswood definitely needs a lot of help to command the prices they charge. If only they would invest a little in the place maybe they could even charge more and I would have been very happy with our stay, but sadly I found it deceiving and very expensive for what it is.

Yelp
A review I wish I had been able to read Let me start by saying that this review is of the Texas Farmhouse. I can't speak for the other accommodations and I don't want to dissuade people from trying those. However, this is the kind of information that I would have liked to read as I was trying to decide whether or not this was the right spot for us for our weekend getaway. The ranch is beautiful but it feels tired. Our horseback ride was fun but, unlike it is shown on the website, we walked our horses single file for an hour. We enjoyed exploring the ranch by golf cart--especially seeing the exotic animals. The owner was very nice throughout the booking process. Skeeter, who seems to run all the on site operations, was so friendly and helpful--it is clear that he loves the ranch. The Texas Farmhouse is listed as a "restored" house. It is full of interesting antiques and is surrounded by a beautiful fenced garden and trees. But when you walk in, you will find that the house is not in the condition shown on the website. "Restored" isn't exactly accurate, as the house looks and smells very old--not in a state of "restoration." If you are someone who is sensitive to smell, this WiLL bother you. Old is not an excuse for dirty--and it just felt dirty. Paint is peeling off the walls throughout the house--a health hazard? A "restored" home can be filled with old, beautiful things, but also be clean and fresh. When we first walked in it was obvious that the house had not been thoroughly cleaned that day as there were large dead cockroaches in the kitchen and living room. As I was sitting in the living room I noticed a spider the size of a golf ball on one of the chairs. At that point I was about ready to call it quits, but my husband killed the spider and we pressed on. We wanted to be positive! The air conditioning did not work upstairs and the small cooling fan placed in the bedroom was completely ineffective. If you cannot sleep in a hot room, this WILL bother you. Fortunately, we had the house to ourselves and so we could sleep downstairs with 2 fans blowing on us. Actually, sleep didn't really happen for me. The bedding was nice but the bed was not comfortable for us and so between the smell, the thought of the bugs and spiders, the bed, and the fan noise, I was up most of the night, and we opted to go home early so we didn't lose our whole weekend trying to relax in a place that frankly was not relaxing. It was just too hot to spend the majority of our time outside. This ranch has glowing reviews online. Perhaps if I had come into the weekend thinking more of camping than staying at a highly recommended bed and breakfast farmhouse it might have been a better experience. We ordered the entire meal package and while the food was adequate, I simply do not think it was worth what we paid. The owner was kind enough to refund the cost of the dinner we missed. Between the accommodations and the food, when I think about how much we spent on our shortened weekend, I have to say am really disappointed. I wish the ranch owners and staff all the best but hope they will find a way to make major improvements.

Yelp
Absolutely Amazing First off let me say the staff was extremely hospitable, Skeeter with an S is the nicest, sweetest man on earth, Kirby was a gem, thank you for the smooth horseback ride. Carole, not only is your property absolutely beautiful you were very informative, accommodating and professional. We stayed in the safari tent for four days and three nights, Carole checked in just enough to see if we needed anything. The tent was rustic with modern decor it had all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay away from home. Waking up to birds singing, deer and bison/buffalo was lovely. The room doesn't have a television and I'm glad as it forces you to take a moment and connect with love ones. Also the activities if you choose to purchase keep you busy. We participated in archery, tomahawk throwing, horseback riding and trap shooting. Not going to lie, I was a little hesitant driving into the location, as the town and neighborhood had a lot of opposing political party signs but boy was I wrong. I felt extremely comfortable staying at this location, very relaxing and tranquil property, we will be back in the near future. Thanks to all the staff

Yelp
My wife and I went here for our first anniversary, we were looking to do something different than going to the beach, spending the day at the river walk in San Antonio, or spending an exuberant amount of money staying at hotel Zaza in Houston. So I stumbled upon this little gem online, gave them a ring and I was able to reserve a cabin last minute! Truth be told we didn't spend much time on the ranch because we went shopping and did other things at a nearby city. After all the shopping we got back to Blisswood so we could catch the sunset and it was truly beautiful, says my wife. We even got to use a golf cart to drive around and go sight seeing for about 45 minutes which was nice. All that being said, my wife loved the time we spent there so I'm happy. I would recommend this quaint bed and breakfast ranch to anyone!

Yelp
What a perfect place to come out and relax at especially when your coming from the big city AkA Houston. It was so conveniently located. The staff, food, activities and hospitality was bar none. My wife and I hope to come back often.

Yelp
We came out here for our 10yr wedding anniversary and stayed at the dog loft cabin. It's a cute place but needs a bit more upkeep for the pricing. The couch smells like a dog, the loft was hot as Haiti until you drop that a/c down, the bed was worn, the coffee pot was missing, the swimming pool needs a cleaning (heck I would have cleaned it with a pool net had there been one), the doors to the pool need work - oh ya you only get the pool if you have this cabin, the shower floor was squishy (?) and my husband had to kneel to shower. Bring your groceries, stop in schulenberg for some BBQ and kolaches.

Yelp
I was at this Texas Bed and Breakfast for a quick Weekend Getaway from Houston. I stayed in the writers Cabin. It was very secluded and small but not too small, just right for my boyfriend and I. It was under all of these great big oaks, just like used to be around the town where I grew up. We enjoyed long walks during the day through the property, which is inhabited by various wildlife and farm life. You should be into animals to fully enjoy Blisswood. I would also recommend signing up for one of their packages. There are lots to choose from. We did the "Picnic Package" where we took a horseback ride to the lake, and then there was a picnic waiting for us in this adorable little gazebo at the lake. Awesome!

Jackie H.

Yelp
We spent the weekend at Blisswood Bed and Breakfast and as much as I would like to leave a positive review, I can't. When we arrived, the package items we had ordered were not in our cabin. I called the owner and she did have the items brought out later, but it was our anniversary so it was kind of disappointing to not have the champagne and other items waiting for us. The grounds are very private and rustic. Unfortunately the attention to detail just didn't seem to be there, especially for the price per night. A ceiling light was falling down, one of the rocking chairs was broken, the standing lamp was cracked, the floor was rotting out and had been patched with a wobbly piece of vinyl. There was only enough hot water for one person to shower. You either had to wait or both take crazy quick showers. Only half the lights around the hot tub worked. The continental breakfast was a box with pre-wrapped bagels, packaged muffins, yogurt, an apple and orange, and a granola bar. While we didn't mind this carb-loaded breakfast too much, the breakfast for the second morning was the exact same thing. No creativity or effort. The kicker was the hot tub. First night we got in before dinner. I felt like I got bit by something and so did my husband. After showering I had bites on my leg and shoulder. Thought I just got mosquito bite. The second night we got in after dinner. Immediately I started getting bitten by little black bugs. It was dark so I took one inside. They were ants. I had over a dozen bites on my back, legs and arms. They were in the hot tub, even in the water. Not sure how that happens but it was pretty miserable. I let the owner know and she said she's never had anyone complain about the hot tub. That was it. I'm sitting here itching like crazy as I write this. This is a nice location and could be a really nice place, but it just seemed like it was 100% about making the money, and a lot of money it was for two night. Maybe invest a bit in keeping it up to the standard of what you are asking visitors to pay.

Yelp
Exquisite place to unwind and get in touch with your inner nature-side. Hi, Me and my Husband decided to Honeymoon here for 3nights & 4days. (We stayed from (9/28-10/01/ 2020) The stay was so peaceful and tranquil. An absolute 10/10 place to be alone an secluded during this horrid Covid crisis. We are newly weds & had fresh strawberries (Chocolate covered) (Freaking delicious) & red petals draped on the bed in a heart shape. They sure did make us feel special. I had no problem with comfort, in are cabin (The Sunset Pond Cabin) the ac worked great, it cooled the whole house down, we had 2 units, one in the bedroom and living room area. Also we had are own lake/ pier to fish from, a Private Hot Tub Area, including a outside shower) Station set up for grilling and a nice spot set up as well with an iron fire pit for wood burning & s'more making (which we did lol) Carol took good care of us to, she was only a text away, I was able to receive more fire wood, when needed, more lighter fluid when needed & fire started if needed. She was great and runs a tight ship! Will defiantly be returning with are little family some day. Thank you BlissWoods!

Yelp
My husband and I went to Blisswood for our 14th anniversary last weekend. It was better than we could have imagined. Completely secluded, quiet, and GORGEOUS. We stayed in Sunset Pond Cabin. It had everything we needed, even a little grill. Pots and pans and silverware were all new and clean - I can't tell you how many times we have stayed somewhere and all the dishes were old and rusty. We scheduled a couples massage in the privacy of our own cabin - the ladies that showed up were professional and on time and our massages were worth every penny. Oh and the sheets were amazing. I actually searched for the tab so I could see what brand they were, I am SO buying a set of these sheets. We slept like babies. It was hard to come home yesterday after spending a weekend in paradise.

Yelp
My husband & I went to Blisswood for a one night get away for his birthday. We met Skeeter who was kind enough to take us to the Enchanted Cabin. He was very helpful & welcoming. The accomadations were comfortable & clean . We ordered dinner for 2 that was brought to our cabin. It was good. Breakfast was Continental for 2 already in the mini- refrigerator. We took a walk to the lake, and ran into 5 white horses, neat experience. So why not 5 stars? The price was high for what we received.

Yelp
We've just returned from a 3-night getaway at Blisswood. It was our first visit there. We stayed at The Texas Farmhouse & definitely enjoyed being away from city life. Pros: Private house with nice front & back porches, quiet setting, rustic- style furnishings throughout, great rockers on the porch, relaxing environment, easy to make reservations Cons: 5 towels were provided for a party of 4 people staying 3 nights(We requested extras & received a few more later.), upstairs bedroom was HOT!! & the air conditioning doesn't reach it, love seats in the front room are uncomfortable & very worn, downstairs bed creaks VERY loudly, accommodations seem overpriced.

Yelp
Located only a one hour drive from Houston, my wife and I highly recommend Blisswood Bed and Breakfast Ranch. This is a wonderful place for a break from living in the city. Take time to breathe the fresh air, smell the flowers, listen to natures creatures, and see millions of stars in the night sky. Read a book, walk the many trails, and enjoy the outdoors at its finest. Whether you're seeking solitude, or horseback riding, or other extracurricular adventures, Blisswood has it all. Enjoy and return home refreshed and recharged !

Yelp
We had an amazing weekend getaway to BlissWood B&B! We opted for the dinner package and were thrilled with everything that we tried! We had the meal delivered the first night and we ate at Carol's in town the second night! We're so glad we decided to go to the restaurant, the inside is beautiful and the service was terrific! Of course Carol and Skeeter were there and took the time to chat with us about our stay and about the ranch. We fished the Enchanted Lake and caught bass, crappie and pan fish. It was a ton of fun watching the fish feeder go off and the gazeebo on the lake is gorgeous! Thank you for everything Carol! We'll see you again soon!

Yelp
We snatched up a Living Social deal for this place and were very excited to get away for a weekend to relax and not think about our hectic schedules. We were a little unsure of what exactly to expect, but the message on their site is clear : no phones, no TVs, no Internet. It's a getaway from the every day. Armed with two movies and a laptop and some Claritin, we booked a 2 night stay in the Hibiscus Suite at the Oasis with horseback riding and bass fishing for Saturday morning. First off - check out their site. It has been recently updated with much better pictures of what to expect in your room (just be warned that the rooms are staged). We were a little taken aback at the small size of the Hibiscus suite, but apparently that's the smallest suite out there! The Oasis is a few miles away from the main ranch and very secluded - as in, you better keep your eyes peeled for the sign. :) However, we adored the grounds, the swimming pool in the Conservatory, and the abundance of Cardinals at the property. There are squirrels, frogs and lizards, and even deer wander around nibbling on the grape vines in the back. There were a few new cabins being built and they looked like they will be very inviting. Our room had a small fridge and cooking items, so we headed into Bellville and located a Brookshire Brothers to pick up some goodies. Be sure to get the directions before you go because it is easy to get lost! The Greenhouse attached to our suite was much too hot (hello, it was JUNE) so we weren't able to enjoy it like we'd planned. The fountain unfortunately was not working, but the place was very tropical and lush. I loved the big jacuzzi spa in our bathroom and all of the extra attention to detail that the owners put into it. The bed was a Queen sized and although the mattress isn't a Tempurpedic, it's soft and squishy for some aching bones. They also have a Snack Box with OJ, muffins, and other pastry items I can't have. ;) Horseback riding was a blast - this was not your average 'plod around in a circle on a horse that really should be out in the pasture' ride. We were on gaited Paso Finos and wore helmets for a reason. We went in and out of the woods, through creeks, across huge pastures of cattle, and a few times were moving at a pace that an experienced horse person like myself was a little surprised at. Definitely worth the money. Wear jeans, FYI! Shorts pinch and those saddles are not designed for comfort. Bass fishing was very relaxing. My husband caught about 5 and I caught 2 - not bad for a girl who has never really 'fished'. We fished in two of the property's lakes and gave the cattle a good laugh at my horrible fishing skills. The calves went swimming in the lake while we remembered to avoid the bull. Mama cows were plentiful and had a lot of conversations while we were there - you really feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere and could just stay there for days. The on-site gift shop was a little disappointing, but I did pick up their handmade coffee mugs. The staff that we did get to meet is incredibly friendly and easy going. We did not make it to the restaurant - as you all know -I am special needs when it comes to food and didn't get to see the menu! :) The animals are a hoot - from mini horses to bison to unidentifiable bugs to the dogs that played with the armadillo (though I don't think the armadillo was playing back....) we felt very at home in the place. There is no Internet service and occasionally I was able to get a text but don't expect to be checking Facebook until you are off the property. There is no formal check-in, check-out process. You just show up to your suite and grab your key. Be sure to explore Bellville (Sealy was a letdown, sorry Sealy kids...) for the antique shops and places to grab a bite to eat. Cons? The Hibiscus suite was a bit tight for me, but I think if we'd been able to open up the greenhouse I would have been happier. If you have no intentions of cooking or being in the room except to shower and sleep, this is a great choice for you. I also would have liked the gift shop to have more color selections of their mugs and maybe a few more trinkets, but that gets expensive to keep up with. So the cons here really aren't that bad. :) We can't wait to go back. Don't go in expecting a 5 Star hotel, go in with no expectations and no plans. That's the only way you will be able to unwind and relax. Take a swimsuit for the conservatory pool if you're at the Oasis. Bring bug spray, a few books/magazines, and lots of bottled water. Get out and explore the towns and sign up for at least 2 activities. Next time we will rent a larger space possibly on the main grounds, get a massage and maybe archery, and bring more books. However, my husband and I enjoyed just talking to each other, wandering around taking pictures, and learning to relax. Yeah...I had to learn to relax.

Yelp
I am very happy to write this review and share with people that might not otherwise know what a gem this place and it's people are. I was completely delighted by the entire staff of people at Blisswood and had a wonderful time there. The horse trails are beautiful, despite the unfortunate drought during this time. I could see well beyond that and the old oaks, beautiful ponds, creek beds and gorgeous natural landscape were magical. This was one time that the website could not come close to portraying the beauty of nature that Carol has captured here. Debby- a lady who wears many 'hats' including manager, hostess at Carol's Restaurant and country 'concierge' was cheerful, knowledgeable and was there when we needed guidance. I don't know how she does it, but she does! Skeeter, a friendly, bearded gentleman on property, is a Pulitzer prize winning photographer who gives the photography workshop there at Blisswood. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to get together with him for a clinic, but I will be back to cross paths with him again. He took some unbelievable photos of us riding and I can't wait to get one of them framed to put in our new home. We live in NYC so were pretty shocked when we had really great meals at Carol's restaurant ;) Our group loved the steak and the Texas Iced Tea. The waitress was a lovely brunette--well traveled cheerful, funny girl with stories and a GREAT personality. Ask her about her trip to Scotland and the food there! ;) Carol is hands on, and although she was out of town the day of our arrival, she was always available and worked with me directly to make a very complicated plan come together. We came with family , our own horses and another crew of friends who stayed in the log cabin and it was truly a perfect stay. Fell in love with the Oak Trees in back of the Lehman House, and the swing...Will be back to stay at Dog Trot next time so we can enjoy the pool!

Yelp
We went to Blisswood on our honeymoon and overall enjoyed the experience. Staff was very friendly overall, if a little stretched thin. When we arrived to our cabin, their newest- Sunset Pond- we were greeted with the "romance package" we had purchased- beautiful flower arrangement, chilled champagne, cheese & crackers (which became dinner) and chocolate dipped strawberries. We were a little more than disappointed to find that the bed, rather than being the queen sized one advertised, was a full size. Since we're used to a king at home, it was a little uncomfortable to sleep in. I appreciated the kitchen with full-size fridge, as it made preparing meals very easy. We ran into issues when I tried to shower in the morning- five minutes in to a warm shower, the water got cold and I got a very rude awakening. We texted maintenance, and there was waffling about whether someone would be out soon or if we would be waiting until we were gone at our activities. I was cold and miserable by now and really hoping for a speedy response so I could finish my shower. When someone did come, there was 15-20 minutes of searching the cabin for where the water heater was, since he didn't know. My shower was put on hold for our "dude ranch" activities of archery, knife, and tomahawk throwing. Skeeter, our guide, was very friendly and willing to let us do our activities for an indefinite time, telling us he'd leave everything out for us all day. That afternoon's trap shooting went much the same, although the rifle we used really needed cleaning and jammed frequently. Had my husband not been knowledgeable about guns, this could have been very bad. We hustled ourselves back for a couples massage. The ladies who did it were both very friendly, although it's obvious based on our experiences that one knew much more of what they were doing than the other. Our next morning had us scheduled for a feeding tour and horseback ride. The feeding tour, very obviously, was oriented for kids, not adults. The horseback ride, though, far exceeded my expectations. While most places simply take you on a plodding trail ride, our guide allowed us to ride out in pastures as well as along a beautiful trail. The peso fino horses were a delight to ride, especially since I'm used to thoroughbreds or quarter horses with much more jolting steps. I love how the horses and all the animals there were friendly and very approachable. The breakfast, as some have said, were lacking, even if they were beautifully presented in boxes for every day of our stay. I wish we had some say in the types of bagel, muffin, etc. that were provided. The bagels each day had a fruit inside, and the muffins were not labeled as to the type. As a result, we ended up wasting a lot of the stuff, which was unfortunate. I was also left rather confused with lack of housekeeping- at the hefty price tag, I had expected that someone would at least come take the trash out (since no extra trash bags were provided) and restock the paper goods as needed. Overall a positive experience, but I'll definitely be looking at different accommodations on the property if we return.

Yelp
Went for a 4 day stay for my sisters birthday in December right after Christmas. My sister is from Houston and I was coming from NYC. My sister LOVED the entire experience and was ready to move in! My mom and I felt like the cabin we were staying in could have been a little better. It wasn't the cleanest and they do not clean daily, you are on your own. (We DID know that coming in!) We stayed in the Dog Trot Loft and they said it was a good fit for 3 grown women. It had one full bed in the loft that was VERY WORN and a TERRIBLE pull out couch. There were also wasps coming in through the ceiling in the loft all the time. It's amazing that you can freely wander the ranch. ALL of the animals are used to people and safe. You can walk anywhere and not worry! If the animals don't want you around, they walk away. But none are "spooked" by you. We went out and bought carrots to give to some! Only the cows don't want to be around you. But, like I said, they aren't scared, they just aren't going to let you pet them. They stress to you that you might not see people on your stay but that's simply not true. We saw people, other guests and workers, ALL THE TIME. The people who you speak to for the reservation also didn't seem to know much of anything about the cabins or the ranch...? We asked if there was a pool and they said "not near you" and it was LITERALLY connected to our cabin. They also said we weren't near any other cabin until our confirmation call when they said it was nearby-ish...it was CONNECTED to our loft. Anyway, if it's for you like it was my sister, DO IT! I'll probably do a spa next time! :)

Yelp
Our home away from home. Carol runs a fine property, and we have made numerous trips out to her place to recharge our batteries. Easily within an hour's trot out to Cat Spring. Carol's restaurant is within a few miles, and is exceptional. If you enjoy a relaxing atmosphere with hundred year oaks.... look no further. Thanks Carol! You know we will be back again and again.

Yelp
I have to agree with Krystal M.'s review dated 8/12/13. We stayed in the "oasis" section. We paid over $500 for 2 nights. I have to wonder about some of the people who wrote reviews giving it 5 stars? Are they friends or employees of the owner? Our cabin was cold & one of the heaters was broken so the staff wanted to move us to another unit; the other unit was larger and colder so they then wanted to move us into a smaller unit with no kitchen or microwave. The shower didn't work, there were roach droppings in the corners, the carpet was stained and dirty and the outside lights didn't work. We were not impressed and would not recommend anyone stay at this place. It was obvious to us the Oasis was not being cared for at all. The indoor pool area covered by a large greenhouse was not "blissful" in anyway. Like Krystal M. said the fake plants throughout are dusty and dirty and I wish we would have read her review before we booked our trip. We had to go in Sealy to buy antihistamines because our allergies were so bad after the first night. They advertise which "cabins" have a fireplace -- but its a fake electrical unit that doesn't put out any heat. Make sure if you do go that you read the "cancellation" policy. There are "no refunds." You can use 1/2 of your refund to stay there during the week (and who goes away for the weekend to re-book and stay during the week?). After going there thinking it had to be nice for the price we paid my husband and I would never recommend this place to anyone. The only nice thing about the place was that someone in the past planted bamboos and obviously used to care about the place judging from the large now poorly kept greenhouses. I would advise the owner to hire someone to manage and stay in the rooms and stop posting reviews that give the place 5 stars. That's deceitful.

Yelp
We had a contest at my work and I won a weekend away of my choice.Yes, I like my job. I picked this place and sure was glad I did. They have about ten cabins all very unique that you can choose from. That was the hardest part. We picked the enchanted cabin because it was the most secluded. You never know when you might want to play naked chess. This cabin is right on the lake and really beautiful. It came with a fantastic jacuzzi tub. This place is romantic but also good for kids. If you stay with kids I recommend the log cabin which is beautiful in itself but also very close to all the animals and barn. Oh and the animals, where to start. There are horses, donkeys, pigs, peacocks, chickens, roosters, emus and a kangaroo. The kangaroo was real friendly til he bit my fiance's finger. I'm not taking a star off for that, because I couldn't stop laughing and we were giving him some salami, so I think he just got carried away. We brought are bikes up here and rode around the grounds. There are over 200 acres and it's all beautiful. We also booked a horse ride with Cowboy Bob, the 71 year old head wrangler. I recommend you do the same. If you like animals and the beauty of nature, then this is the place for you. I have every intention of going back./

Yelp
I don't know where you guys were staying, but it was not at all what my boyfriend and I experienced. We stayed in the Writer's Cabin, Thomas went up two days before I joined him, and after my first night, we left as soon as we could. It really did look like no one had been in there for ages. Everything was dusty. My philosophy is: if you're going to have knick-knacks, keep them clean. No one wants to see a tiny fake tree covered in spider webs, or the bunches of fake flowers covered in a solid layer of dust. Even the ceiling was dirty! What they don't tell you before is that the tiny AC unit, who's filter probably hasn't been changed since it was installed, can't be put below 74 degrees. If it freezes up, it's on you to pay for the repairs. So now we're sitting in a hot, sweaty, dust covered cabin. Then I started finding the bugs. There are tiny dead bugs everywhere. I understand that this is out in the wilderness and there are going to be some creatures, but the kicker is that there were getting in through the front door. There's a huge gap in the bottom of it where things can crawl through at will. The shower was gross and moldy. Around the rim of the actual shower, and in the water handles. It was gross. Not to mention the sink had some weird deterioration going on. And forget about pooping on this trip- the toilet doesn't flush anything bigger than a square of toilet paper with each flush. The back door knob doesn't even work. If you want to make sure no one gets in, you HAVE to lock the dead bolt, or they can just push it open. The paint is incredibly faded, and the back door is rusting. I didn't even know that was possible. Oh, here's the real kicker- there's no stove. They provide a fridge, and mixing bowls, utensils, the works... And then give you a tiny little rusted over "grill" the size of a baby. For something so expensive, I was gravely disappointed. The lack of attention to detail (and cleaning) (and effort) was astounding. And it took over a week to get my refund for the nights we didn't stay there! (We spent seven dollars more and stayed at the king suite at the Hyatt instead) I called and left multiple messages and talked to two different people who said that I would have to talk to Carol, then finally talked to Carol who told me I'd have to talk to her assistant- whom I had already talked to! It's a mess, man. I'd much rather stay somewhere else.

Yelp
I surprised my boyfriend for his birthday and took him here since he is a country boy. This was both of our first time ever staying at something like this and it was absolutely amazing. Once we meet Skeeter at the flag poles he was nothing but the best helper ever. We stayed in Kit Bungalow which was perfect for us. I ordered the birthday special which our champagne was waiting for us chilled in our room as well as the chocolate covered strawberries. That Saturday we had a scheduled picnic at the Gazebo which was perfect we sat out there for hours just relaxing and enjoying nature. That night his parents came down for dinner at Carols and we wanted to get them a bungalow as well and Carol was able to provide that accommodation at the last minute. The restaurant was fantastic the food was OMG so good. Im still bragging on the steak. Carol is just amazing she is very hands on with everything that is going on at the ranch , her personal calls and emails just made us feel so welcome and eager to return. I have recommended this place to all my friends because this is the perfect getaway spot for us. Blisswood is better than any 5 star hotel that we have ever stayed in. Thank you Carol and Skeeter for helping me make my boyfriends birthday extra special. Monquie and Dariel

Yelp
When you drive into Blisswood you immediately feel a sensation of calm and tranquility wash over you. You feel totally isolated and free, like it's your own private ranch. My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights and the only other people we saw were our amazing horseback riding guide, Armando, and an employee patrolling around in a pick-up truck. You can walk out among the fields and pastures at your leisure, petting the stallions as they're out to graze or admiring the cattle from afar. We spent an hour in the charming gazebo positioned on an island in the middle of the Enchanted Lake, which glows with an unworldly turquoise hue. They also have a deep forest of old world oak trees with hanging Spanish moss to enjoy a stroll through, as well as the Show Barn where you can play games like darts or corn-hole while petting penned barn-yard animals like donkeys and goats alongside antique historic horse-drawn carriages. Just thinking about it makes me feel more relaxed. It was so nice to go to a place with no TVs, phones, and barely any cell service. So relaxing, and when we left I felt as recharged as if I had slept for a week. Don't know when we'll ever make it back to Texas, but this wonderful place will live in my heart forever.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were looking for a cute, romantic weekend getaway and this was the perfect place. Both Carol and Skeeter were very welcoming from the beginning. They were friendly and helpful and made us feel very comfortable. Carol's ranch was magnificent. There are various cabins on the property. We stayed at one that has a fireplace and a pool in the back. Our place was very clean and neat and had all of amenities that we needed. We would definitely love to come back again.

Yelp
Blisswood was exactly as advertised -- quiet and relaxing. My wife and I spent our mini-honeymoon weekend in the Maui Suite at the Oasis. We arrived late (after calling first to ask permission), and they sent a guy out in a truck to lead us down the gravel road. It's definitely The Country, but the AC worked, the jacuzzi worked, and the rooms were comfortably furnished. It rained all weekend, so we didn't get to see the farm or go on our picnic, but someone brought us the picnic basket so we could eat in the greenhouse. Did I mentioned it was quiet and secluded? There are no TVs or phone lines, and your cell phone probably won't get reception. I booked the trip last-minute at 10:00pm a few days before we wanted to go, and Carol (the owner) called me half an hour later (!!) to recommend a better suite, which I ended up taking. There's no check-in or check-out. If you want to eat out for dinner, there are towns nearby. Overall, a great place. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The ranch side of things is run very well. My wife and I had the horse ride for two, with picnic lunch at a beautiful gazebo overlooking a lake. I also imagine the wedding rental service is similarly spot on from this experience. It appeared a wedding had happened recently on site. However, the cabin upkeep and corresponding restaurant in town isn't run as well. For example, we stayed two nights at Mystic Woods cabin. When we arrived the outdoor hot tub was dirty, and the inside of the cabin wasn't much better. It sits under some old and large oaks so it's a challenge to keep clean obviously, but at just over $300 a night, it's a must to clean it impeccably for your guests. I reported the hot tub issue, and the owner was responsive in having it cleaned, and also did good service recovery with a free bottle of champagne. Unfortunately, the restaurant also run by the B&B in town is similarly challenged. They charge $30 a plate average. I had the steak. It was of modest size for this price, and the the sides tasted like microwave Steam Fresh. The experience as a whole bounced between brilliant and underwhelming. This seems like the kind of place you'd want to see on Gordon Ramsey's hotel/restaurant rehab show. It does have amazing potential at present. But the reality is that what they are presently serving up on the cabin and restaurant side of things is about twice what it's worth. As things are now, I'd certainly return, but only for the horse ride and picnic lunch.

Yelp
I think to get the right experience from Blisswood, you need to go in with the right expectations. First of all, it's in the deep country. This is rustic. Expect trees, dirt, cute animals, and maybe even a friendly bug or two. The small town nearby is so sweet and quaint, but you won't find all of the conveniences that you're used to if you live in the city. Also, this isn't a traditional B&B with a lot of conversation and people checking in on you, but I'll gladly trade that for the seclusion. As far as the "breakfast" part goes, I knew what to expect before I booked our stay. They could most definitely provide a better experience in that department, but since I called beforehand I knew to bring something to supplement our breakfast. It felt like a breakfast I would get as a kid at Girl Scout camp. I would encourage the owners to bump that up a notch. I understand that warm meal isn't to be expected in this sort of set up, but there is a whole world of packaged gourmet food available now. We stopped at Whole Foods on our way out of Houston and picked up the fixings that would later make for a splendid picnic in the country and be a nice compliment to our breakfast the next day. Just driving onto the property, I knew that we were indeed going to have an "enchanting" stay at the Enchanted Cabin. We marveled at the beauty of the property. It's a great piece of land. It was really neat driving by all of the B&B rooms/homes on our way to the nicely secluded Enchanted Cabin. I won't deny that there is a certain old musty smell when you walk into the cabin. It didn't bother me though and I forgot about it almost right away. That comes with the territory. These homes aren't always occupied and they're in the country. As far as I'm concerned, I'll take that over a fake perfume smell any day. I just really really loved the cabin! I felt right at home. I could live there, honestly. Maybe with a tv, of course. :-) As soon as we explored our cabin, we went for a walk and picnic around the nearby lake. It was a really nice evening. My only complaint about the room is that when we tried to use the jacuzzi at midnight, we couldn't get anything but cold water. We didn't want to call maintenance at such a late hour so my husband, being the Romeo that he is, filled every pot with water and boiled his way to a lukewarm jacuzzi for us. This was our first day/night spent without our daughter since she was born and the seclusion and simplicity of the place really allowed for us to forget about any responsibilities and really communicate with each other for the first time in months. We loved the experience so much that we would have come home with Blisswood mugs if the gift shop had been open when we left. Why 4 stars instead of 5? The price. As much as we loved it, I just couldn't justify ever visiting again unless we could get our hands on another great deal like we did through Groupon. If money were of no concern to you, then this may very well be a 5 star experience indeed.

Yelp
This is the perfect weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of life. My boyfriend and I stayed in the Log Cabin. Even though it is right in the middle of everything, it was still super peaceful amongst all the live oaks. The Log Cabin has the most personality out of all the places to stay here I think. I will definitely be coming back to try others out though!! I highly recommend doing at least one activity. We chose horseback riding which was lovely. I also advise you to make reservations for Carol's at Cat Spring. It is the only restaurant in Cat Spring. The food was magnificent. The homemade triple chocolate cake was to die for. Thank you so much Carol!! You've got a neat thing going in Cat Spring.

The T.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to staying here but got terrible communication from Carol. I felt like it was more about the money than meeting my needs. Very disappointed. I was surprised at how pricey it was as well for everything.

Tracy R.

Yelp
Carol and the staff at Blisswood put every bit of their heart into treating guests to a beautiful ranch experience. I love every minute of my stay at Blisswood each and every time we have gone (we return many times each year for over four years now). I look forward to our visit there and the chance to really experience a beautiful, authentic Texas ranch experience. Check out the lakes, the beautiful mature oaks, the amazing rolling landscape, just gorgeous and a wonderful place to go and recharge. I highly recommend Blisswood for a beautiful, real Texas ranch experience. If you're looking for a Four seasons spa experience, this is not it, if you're looking for being part of nature, rocking in the rocking chairs on the front porch, fishing in the lake, and loving every minute of the beautiful Texas ranch, this is your place.

Yelp
Before going to Blisswood we had never been in a Bed and Breakfast , but we read the definition of a Bed and Breakfast and the review of Bliss wood , and all seemed to like it very much. Bed and Breakfast suppose to give you breakfast and give you a service meanwhile you are in their place. but either of those happen. We stayed for two days , When we arrived they show us the cabin and suppose to give us wine and flowers and they told us the Breakfast was in our cabin ,the cabin was cute , but smell like humid , I liked very much the Jacuzzi and a little inner garden, , but for breakfast they just leave you just "2 muffin, 2 Rice Krispie, 2 Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars,1 oatmeal, 2 apple, 2 orange, 6 Welch's juice ,4 yogurt, coffe, tap water and 1 bottle of crane lake $4.00 worth wine. and 2 roses They give this stuff the first day then after that no one shows up..So they really just gave us Breakfast for one day. About Service , they said it is a place to relax , so we would not really see people around , but it was not people at all , not body show up to ask us Do you need towel or for fixed the bed? , so we used the same towels both days and had to fix our room ... what a nice way to relax from the routine of home !! ... anyway , I think Blisswood is nice for people that really wanted to get away of everything and use to like very much the outdoors , ..If you want to go for relaxation, laying down on comfortable bed and listen the nature, this is not place to go .Bed is not comfortable but you hear the nature even coyotes at night .Location nice but not emergency phone around when you need it because Cell phone doesn't have signal at all (sprint ). I think it is very expensive for what it is considered what we got .. 2X muffin=$2.00 2X Kelloggs Rice Krispies= $1.50 2X Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars=$1.00 1X Oatmeal=$0.50 2X Apple=$0.50 2X Orange=$0.50 4X yogurt=$2.00 4X cofee=$1.00 4X welch's=$4.50 1x Wine=$4.00 Total = $17.50 I gave the nature for $100 so total comes up $117.50 not more not less.

Yelp
My wife and I spent her birthday there in Dec. 2012. I was very disappointed in the accommodations. We stayed at the Oasis. I do not recommend this place. It looked as if no one has be there in 20 years or a scene out of Friday the !3th "Camp Crystal Lake". Everything was over grown the green houses were died and the others were empty with died foliage. An area where I guess and animal resided was also over grown. The pool area was blocked by a 3-4 foot piece of plywood you had to hop over to get to the open pool. The foliage was also over growing into the pool and there is no one to contact in the area. The doors don't lock properly and the photos on line are old because the paint on the houses are faded now. There is no phone reception just like a horror movie. Oh there flier in the room doesn't recommend you going outside at night......................."you might be hacked up but Jason" When I went to the restaurant where the owner was; to resolve this issue the owner sent someone who doesn't even work for her to speak with me about a refund. He told me the owner would refund the money and if I wanted I could find a hotel in town for the night because they had no other accommodations. Funny; stay somewhere else. The older gentlemen I spoke with was nice but had no idea of what the owner would refund........that was so unprofessional. Finally, after calling a few days later I spoke with the owner and she said the gentleman I spoke with was just helping her and he did not make decisions for her. "So why send him to talk to me if she was in the restaurant that night." I recommend not paying up front like they want you to until you see the accommodations or purchase the packages that look like crap on a plate cheese platter and strawberries that looks like my 6 year old put together in a hurry. There is no true person to speak to one of them lives in Houston an hour way and the other sends other people to speak for her so she can tell you later after you go home; they would not refund all your money. Scam find another place. Oh look up the restaurant reviews also. She own it too and I didn't write it.

Yelp
My husband & I stayed in the Enchanted Cabin for our anniversary & did the Anniversary Package as well. There is not one thing we would change except to make our stay longer! What a beautiful place! The cabin was beyond perfect, the horseback ride completely relaxing & the picnic at the Enchanted Lake at sunset was breathtaking. My husband did not want to leave! If you are looking for a place to go to relax & rejuvenate this is it. We can't wait to return!

Yelp
My mother, who I love very much, gave me a $500 gift certificate to this bed & breakfast for Christmas. To many this may not sound very special, but she is retired and works part time for $8/hr to be able to pay for Christmas for her 3 children. So, I went into this trip with nothing but happiness and thoughts of how much my mother loves me! I looked at the website, and picked the Magnolia Suite at the Dog Trot House. It had everything I wanted....a 2 person Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, a nice charcoal grill, and a pool. Calling to make the reservation was very easy and Carol was pleasant. I asked questions about staying in the Dog Trot, because it seemed like it was a shared house on the website. Carol explained the grill and pool are shared, but the housing is actually separate with a wide corridor between the two. That sounded fine. I printed the directions, so the arrival was easy. Beautiful drive into the property...I even got out and petted some miniature donkeys and a horse in a field. The house was nice and cutely decorated, but there were dirty towels in the hamper and cobwebs on the chandelier over the Jacuzzi. Minus 1 star for cleanliness. The breakfast provided was definitely not what I expect from a Bed & Breakfast....fruit, yogurt, muffins, and bagels. I expected a nice ranch hand (hearty) breakfast. I get a better breakfast at La Quinta, so minus another star for that. Friday night the Jacuzzi tub worked fine, but Saturday afternoon when we got into it again it wouldn't even turn on. We called maintenance, and the gentlemen came out to try flipping some breakers. But, that didn't help, so he said we would have to go to plan B. Ok, that's not terrible, but when someone specifically rents a house w/ a 2 person Jacuzzi that usually means they wish to spend some time relaxing in it together. So, subtract another star. Where was the offer to move to another house with a 2 person Jacuzzi? So, we went outside, and I cleaned the grill so we could cook. This is where things went downhill quickly! Up to this point we knew there was someone and a dog that barked a lot in the other part of the Dog Trot, but we had never seen them. As we are sitting on the deck after cleaning the grill, a man comes out and asks "Are you planning to grill tonight?" We both answered yes! He talks some about his dog, and goes back inside. We go into town to get 2 bags of ice, and come back to start grilling dinner. He has both sides of the grill going with their food. I asked him why he did such a thing, and he said they had been there since Thursday and that they would grill whenever they wanted. He even told me that I couldn't confront him about it, because he could talk to the manager about us. And, he did call the manager, and the manager came out and said well you can wait until they are done. It is 7pm at this point, and they are just putting another round of food on the grill. When exactly where we supposed to have dinner...9,10pm? The manager kept saying you cant change people and what do you want me to do about it?! Well, let's see.... offer to let us use another grill somewhere on the property. Offer to move us to another house, since obviously we cant use 2 of the main features of this one. NOPE! His answer was just wait until they finish doing what they want with the grill. Ok, nice! So, we packed and came back to Houston so we could grill our food at our house, since there is no stove, oven, burner in the Magnolia. We couldn't have another night with no dinner. This may have been a nice place at one time, but it is looking a little tired and neglected. The management and service quality are not what you expect for this kind of price.
