I recently enjoyed a 4-day solo trip and stayed at Bloc Hotel within the Apartment Bloc complex. It ranks among the best hotels I've experienced. The staff were incredibly friendly and always willing to assist. I was impressed by the advanced technology, such as the ability to control the lights, temperature, from my phone with a simple link. I opted for self-catering, which was a breeze. The apartment itself was beautifully designed with classy, minimalist furniture and tasteful decorations. The lighting was perfect throughout. I had a wonderful time and highly recommend Bloc Hotel to anyone visiting the area.

Great hotel for a quick few nights. Walking distance to city centre. Room was clean and modern and right size for 1-2 people. Bathroom is a little small and is essentially a shower room with a toilet and sink. TV was big and had smart apps to watch. No tea making facilities but there is a machine in the lobby for hot water etc. Only small issue was the smart controls. Controls the lights heating etc but would sometimes be slow or you’d need to reload it to get connection. Great value for money ( book direct on website for better perks) Staff were helpful.

Good Hotel. But smallest rooms ever been too. Extreme compact it's a word I would use. Do not take your partner for a romantic night. It's not the place. Travel lodge) Ibis far bigger bedrooms. But done the job. No breakfast but there was a place across the road for it

No kettle for a cup of tea or coffee?! Nowhere to have breakfast. The room is seriously small. The fan in the toilet droned on all night. The ensuite is a wet room with the shower above the toilet so good luck going back in there once dressed. Positive: the room was clean, plenty of pillows, there's a plug by the bed.

Very friendly helpful staff Room was clean and had everything we needed We stayed in room 317 which has the luxury of a window. The room was very quite on a very busy Saturday night in the run up to Christmas so that was a huge bonus. A couple of points I didn't love, the double bed was pushed against the wall making it tricky for one person to get in and out. There was also no where to hang the towels in the bathroom. Overall I'd stay again, the value and location are spot on

The Bloc hotel is excellent! I booked a short-term stay for about 2 months in this hotel. The room is very cosy and neat. The staff were very friendly. Kim was extremely helpful. She is a professional receptionist with a great expertise in her field. She helped me a lot and gave me all the guidance I needed during my stays. I think I will stay again when I come back to Birmingham.

An excellent short-stay hotel for a great price! Check-in/out was absolutely seamless with their futuristic Smart Room Control webapp. I really enjoyed using it to call the lift, open the room door, control the lights and temperature on my phone without having to download a single app! My room was comfortable with plenty of pillows and a great sized bed all for myself. I could genuinely see myslelf enjoying a whole day lazing in bed while using the TV here. While I am generally not a fan of wet bathrooms, this hotel's was by far the nicest I have used so far. The design of it just makes it feel so clean. The floor feels comfortable to step on, even when it's cold and wet. The tiling is so large that you basically won't have to step on top of any of those little tile edges. I loved having a warm monsoon shower too! They also have fantastic discounts on a number of restaurants if you book direct. The next time I return, I'll make sure to do just that!

Can't really ask for better for £50 per night. Decent size and clean room. Checked in at 11pm without issue ( staff were nice). Nice comfortable bed with AC in the room. TV with Chromecast was a nice touch. Bathroom is a wet room with a shower, some may not like this but I didn't have an issue with it. Free water provided in the room but no coffee machine. Hairdryer was provided. No bad smells in the room or bathroom. Soundproofing was decent and no noise from the street level throughout the night. Free street bay parking until 8am and can extend via Ringo after 8am (no need to wake up early and move the car). I would not use the nearby car park for overnight parking as doesn't appear safe but parking during the day was fine (£6 all day parking available on Caroline Street). All in all I would stay here again if needed.

Yelp
Stayed here for three nights and it would have to be the most comfortable hotel room that I have stayed in. The rooms are small but they use the space well fitting in a table, sofa and bed. If you are looking for scenic views then this might not be your cup of tea. This isn't any fault of the hotel as it is in a city but they do try and get as much natural light in as possible. Now to the cleanliness which I cannot fault them on either as every day my room was cleaned top to bottom. They provided me with fresh towels every day which no other hotel I've been to has done. I will definitely be using this place in the next year as I usually go to Birmingham for events at the NEC.

Yelp
I was actually pretty happy with my stay here, really reasonably priced to begin with (and booked through topcashback too, so even more so, woooo). We had a room with a window with its deceptive black out blind, and it offers the space you need. You pay for a neat little, well, block- beds are kingsize, and the bathrooms are little wet rooms, where my bestie was well entertained by "Han! The shower is just like it's raining!", that and the window into the shower like your average shower screen. Because it's a wet room, it does mean the room gets wet, and although the floor is well designed and dried fairly quickly, you still have a soggy loo seat, which isn't great. It did also smell a bit wet, if you know what I mean, which wasn't the most fabulous thing. The bed was firm but comfy, the place was clean. The only downsides for me were; 1. Scratchy loo roll. 2. Plastic bottles of water instead of glasses. (I just prefer clean glasses, and it doesn't look like the bottles get recycled, though don't quote me). 3. It was a bit hot and you couldn't open your window, though don't take this too much to heart, because I'm a rather warm blooded bean. If you're the sort of person who likes to sprawl their stuff everywhere, this is not the place for you, otherwise, good shout.

Yelp
I want to start by saying good things come in small packages, and the Bloc Hotel is no exception to the rule. Located in the heart of Birmingham's Jewelry Quarter it is a budget small room hotel that attempts to provide a lot of neat features to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms are small, there i've pointed out the elephant in the room, but not tiny which is something I want to stress. These are find for a couple to spend a weekend in and you aren't likely to feel like killing each other any more than you would in any other budget hotel. The other elephant that may need to be identified at this point is; windows are a luxury! Yes i'm affraid to say but in budget hotels these days they are and if you want to have one you need to pay for it. I have on occasion seen people complaining about the lack of windows in this type of hotel and I don't understand it but I want to mention it now. The rooms that don't feature a window have a large flat screen TV that shows an image of outside (or as i discovered some more interesting views) which worked for me. The room has some interesting touches to make up for the lack of available space, no wardrobe but a rail on which to hand clothes, hooks that clip into the wall, shelves that fold down, mood lighting you can control the colour and brightness of and a wet room style bathroom with a rainfall shower! And yes this is a budget hotel with a rainfall shower which for me ranks it far higher than many budget hotels. The breakfast is an extra and it's more a packed lunch, the toiletries are of decent quality and they can provide you with an iPhone charging lead (lightning cable only). I thing this hotel is great, and well worth checking out if you are looking for somewhere not over priced in a great location.

Yelp
Bloc Hotel is tucked away on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter. As I don't live in Birmingham, but work and play there a LOT I like to occasionally splash out on a night in the city, but as I have so little money I have to make my choices carefully. That's where Bloc comes in! Describing itself as a 'Boutique Budget Hotel', you get SOME luxuries, but very little space. Which is absolutely fine with me, when all I'm doing is falling asleep dead to the world after a night of drinking and dancing with friends in the city. The rooms might feel a little claustrophobic for some people - and resemble more of a ship's cabin than a typical hotel room - but I have no problems with either of these things. Their prices are pretty cheap and they often have offers on - especially if you sign up to their mailing list!

Yelp
Okay, so it's well established before you book or it should be that you are getting a very compact space. Let's use the term nest from now on. It's a well presented, high quality nest with a smaller bathroom nest. Whilst you get a king sized bed in every room, wedged up against the fake window (or for the extra £7 a real window) The tv is a decent sized 32" mounted to the wall directly opposite the headboard. There's some storage under the bed for bags and cases and apparently also extra pillows but you do get 4 squishy ones already. The bathroom is again explained in the room description, it's a monsoon shower and it will soak EVERYTHING in that room. The door into the bathroom is more like a glass shower door, if does not link and does not lock. It will let all of the steam out into your room. So if you like creating home saunas your in for a treat. To add the tiny soap cube is adorable. We got lost finding out room at first. The numbers are displayed on the door frames, the inside of the frame. In reception there's a 24 hour staffed desk, far too soft and low seating and a vending and coffee machine. Everything in that vending machine is £1. Which for a hotel is a bargain. They do a breakfast to go for something like £5-£6 consisting of a pastry, coffee and a piece of fruit - I think. Hair dryers are requested at the reception desk and if you don't return them before you leave they think you've robbed it and charge you. I would stay again to be in the area but only due to location and price.

Qype User (dunken…)

Yelp
Quirky budget hotel (though room prices can get over the £100 limit) with clean, stylish, somewhat futuristic interior, tiny rooms, which nevertheless make the best use of the limited space. The beds are very comfortable, and I love the monsoon showers in the bathrooms. Many rooms have no window (those are cheaper), but instead a section of the wall that is slightly set back and covered with a sun blind almost as good as a window, as long as you don't try to open it! :) All rooms have a weird purplish secondary lighting. Luckily, it can be turned of.There is free WIFI, but no breakfast. Staff were friendly when I was there. The location in the Jewellery Quarter is great, and about 10mins on foot from the city centre.

Yelp
This was the new kid on the block about a year ago and quickly became part of the Jewellery Quarter establishment - in a good way. It took them 6 weeks to sell out and they say this is all because of the support of the JQ community. Now they are established part of Birmingham's burgeoning hotel & tourism scene with seemingly a new hotel opening about every 5 minutes. This means competition is strong so this is how Bloc hotel stands out: They have small pod style rooms; small but perfectly formed with comfortable bed, power shower, a large flat screen TV and Wi-Fi. They say they researched what the business person wants and this is it. They have 2 rates; with or without window and the difference is just £5. The ones without windows have a fake blind to make it look like there is one. They call themselves a budget boutique hotel, ordinarily a contradiction by in this case it's true. There is no restaurant or breakfast but there are drinks machines in the foyer and they have hooked up with local cafes that they recommend for breakfast. Actual room rates are £90/95 but there are always offers from £30 which is an absolute bargain for 2 people. It's an independent business but they are ambitious and want to open more. They have a very simple concept to open new places; take a large existing building, gut it so it's a shell, build the rooms elsewhere, make them into 'flat packs', bring to hotel and rebuild them inside. It takes a matter of weeks to build the flat pack hotel; I call it the IKEA of hotels.
