Block Drug Store

I love this store! Carmine & the entire staff are friendly & knowledgeable. I started using Block about a year ago when CVS kept rejecting my Rx’s. My doctor sent them to Block et voila they were filled asap & no insurance issues. As long as I live in NYC, I’ll continue to use Block Drugs, regardless of my neighborhood.

So if and whenever I need a prescription I'm choosing block, even if it is a bus ride and 10 blocks away! It felt real good to shop at an honest place with honest people and reasonable prices.. Carmines the best pharmacist I’ve ever had, he answers my endless questions about my meds, helps with my prior auths, helps keep my meds organized for me(Iam epileptic)so it changes all the time, he can take calls from insurance and the doctors and help move things along ime and Beth his wife is SOOOO knowledgeable, she’s great for advice, she’s an optometrist and I think a pharmacologist (knowing the base of the med what’s in them how they work etc, so she’s great for questions if it’s not to bustling!) and Julia their daughter is fabulous I live that she went to law school and stayed at block longer! Shows how great and what an les hub it is

Omg just stopped in for cough drops and the cashier was talking on the phone. When I asked a question he was bothered. No greetings, no thank you. Avoid this place ! I like to support small stores but not with such attitude.

Awesome small joint. Extremely nice and great customer service. Was just there for some otc stuff but the pharmacist in the back seemed extremely nice as well. Highly recommend!

Once you try Block Drugstore, you'll stay loyal. You'll see--you'll be delighted!! They provide service above and beyond and really care about their customers. I have seen countless examples of this with me and their other customers too. Now I can't go back to the chain pharmacies. No comparison.....

I really used to love going to Block Drugstore, until I came to the realization they were overcharging me by a ridiculous margin (400%). This was such a slap in the face considering how friendly Carmine always was with me (and the fact he was aware I'm a working student.) I told my doctor about the pricing, and she told me to try another pharmacy. I gave them the new place the same insurance, and the copay was the normal, affordable price it should be, considering my coverage. I'm so sad to have trusted what I was told at Block (that my copay price was standard for my coverage) as this was completely false. I'm sad to write this review, the vibes in Block are normally great, but they scammed me out of hundreds of dollars for over a year for medication I need.

This used to be my go-to store but no more. They are too busy and made more than a couple of errors. The also helped me out when I was in a pinch which made it hard for me to walk away. There is another similar pharmacy straight down 2nd at Houston. More professional & way more to my liking. Au-revoir Block Drug Store!

Everyone is very friendly and helpful, but the amount of mistakes that were made became unbearable. While waiting for my 'controlled substance Rx Carmine called out my name and said the (name of the) script was ready. Everyone in the store heard it and another customer followed me out in the street and approached me wanting to know if I could spare any of my 'controlled substance.' I have also gotten home and found someone else's librium in my bottle of the same controlled substance. The stories go on and on. They are overwhelmed and too busy to handle the volume of business they do. Also, getting a partially filled prescription is status quo but you always get the rest the next day. One of the clerks marked down that I was owed 20 very strong mental health med when in fact it was that same 'controlled substance'. Carmine would not correct it for me. I was out of town and forced to go cold-turkey on a med I was instructed never, never to do that with. The stories go on ...count you pills and stand up for yourself if you want everything you ordered correctly. Let me close by adding they did many, many 'favors' for me which got me through tough spots (thus the 2 stars). Caveat Emptor.

Block Drug is one of a small handful of landmark businesses in the East Village. It is owned by a wonderful couple, Carmine and Beth Palermo and they have a friendly and helpful staff. I live just a block from Block but if I move to Jersey I'll still do my business at Block Drug. Sometimes when I pass by I stop in just to say hello. Oh, and they make deliveries. Thanks guys!

I am so grateful that these wonderful people have their business near me. Like many others, I am sick of the huge chanis buying out local businesses (still sad about Duane Reed...) and sucking the money out of communities. So whenever I can I turn to Carmine and Beth and their staff, a great group of NYC characters who are committed to their community and devoted to their customers. As others have written, they are helpful, responsive, and...fun! They are second generation here, and I hope they continue for many many more years.

Went into the pharmacy randomly with some stomach issues. I told Carmine the pharmacist that I wanted to use something natural. He said he didn't carry what I was looking for but took 10 minutes to talk to me about my issue and gave me good advice anyway. They don't make ''em like that anymore. Thanks Carmine!

This is the greatest drugstore in NYC or anywhere. Carmine and his wife Beth are very, very helpful and knowledgeable. Besides the personal service with your medications, they care about you and your family. They also carry everything you need at great prices. There's even a section of the store for eyeglasses. When my husband was very ill, they went out of their way to get his medications, some hard to come by, and you can depend on them to have your medications and supplies delivered promptly. I would only use Block, never would use the chains like Duane Reade and Rite Aid - I trust them implicitly with my medications and they give advice on how to take the meds.

Skip the soulless chain store and shop local. This family run Pharmacy has everything that you need and the added comfort of a family who treat you like you are part of their team.

Love this family owned business. They have what you need, terrific service and quality merchandise! Lovely people who treat you like family. Today, Beth was able to notarize something for me! She was also helping someone pick out new eyeglass frames! They do it all. If you haven't been to Block Drug Store, give them a try. I'm sure you'll be pleased.

I used to live a block from Block--no pun intended--and was in here all the time. I still stop in here often; I remember when Carmine's daughter Giulia was just born, and now I think she's graduated college. They're a family-owned business, a precious jewel in a city of Duane Reades. (I avoid Duane Reade the way I avoid Starbucks and WholeMart.) Carmine and Beth are knowledgeable and friendly; they know their customers, and care about them. And they'll notarize your documents!

Carmine and his family are THE MOST helpful pharmacists EVER. They truly care about their customers and will go to great lengths to help them. Forget the unhelpful chain stores; this is the place to get your meds!

I used to live around the corner from BLOCK and Carmine and Beth took care of me and my family (3 kids)..they treated each and every one of their customers like a family member and their tiny little store was bursting at the seam with life and community. A real slice of life and sadly something lost to to the East Village and most of Manhattan now except on movie sets. We moved away to another part of the city but still go back to the hood and see them when we can (also the Polish butchers.) My kids are getting ready to go to college but there is no place in NYC like BLOCK and no one like Carmine and Beth.

I recently had to pick up a package that UPS had left for me at this drug store. On my way in, I thought, "wow, this UPS business is good advertising for this place--I've never been here and now they have me in the door." My UPS guy was inside talking to the guy at the counter who was telling him that he didn't have any more room for packages. When I gave the guy my id to pick up the package, he asked for a utility bill because the Amazon address didn't match my id. Well ok, but I had the UPS confirmation email and the Amazon order on my phone. Also my regular UPS guy recognized me and vouched for me! The guy at the counter still gave me--and the UPS driver!--a hard time. Then when he got my package, the driver saw that he had plenty of space in the locked area for accepting packages! I might have started shopping here, but this unprofessional experience turned me off the place. I hope I never have to go in again!

Like a breath of fresh air is the neon glow of this standout mom-n-pop. So worth walking past the Walgreens, Duane Reades and other soulless players in the chain gang.

It is quite now, especially in these troubled times, to support our local businesses, especially family owned and run. Block Drug Store is one of them. I have been their loyal customer for a quarter centuury and their service and familiarity (and prices) beat the horrible super chains (best left unamed). If you're in Manhattan (or elsewheres), go here (or your local family owned store) always FIRST!!! Bohdan

I have maintained relationship with Carmine as well as his father starting in the 1960's, Owner/operators of stores are miles ahead in the personal relationship that you should have with your pharmacist. I know Carmine and Beth know me and I know them. The workers in the bigpharm's are impersonal.

Block Drugs is the real deal. Competent, friendly, equipped. I work in the neighborhood and having been coming here for years. Very happy I found this place - would never switch to anywhere else!
