Block House

I chose to try the Block House after our sons appointment for a change of pace. All the food had great flavor and the atmosphere was different and unique. Service was very slow for being the only table in the restaurant around 6 on a Thursday evening (it did pick up while waiting). We chose street corn, a plain smash burger, sample platter w/ momos, chicken tenders, cauliflower and a gyro. Our son was more interested in the computer area and video games they have set up for use.

Very mediocre overall. This was the second time I've visited the Bloc House, last time the menu was very different. This new menu was very reduced, different from their online menu. I order the 4 Corners Salad, and what I got was not at all what the menu described, plus the lettuce and tomatoes still had dirty and inedible cores that I had to cut off myself. Portions are very small, and nothing vegetarian other than salads. Our service was very nice and attentive. It seems like they are trying to be 3 different establishments at once, a gamer hangout for kids, a sports bar, and a fine dining place. And they don't do any of them successfully. I suggest they focus on just 1 idea. Until then, I can't recommend this place to anyone looking to eat.

Went there for breakfast and was able to get right in and seated! Food portions were generous and drinks were excellent. Very clean hipster vibe going on ! highly recommended!

We ate in the alley and they allowed us to bring our pooch. The mural is really cool. We bought 2 smash burgers and a build your own Block Burger. We added the waffle fries, pomme frites, and Ratatouille. Everything was delicious, the servings were large, and the presentation was appealing. The staff was friendly and we weren't ignored even though we chose to sit outside. The prices were reasonable - we had 3 mains, 2 sides, a $6 beer, and a $15 appetizer and after a 22-23% tip we spent $85. There were 3 of us, the average was about $28 each, but we felt the price was right for the quality. We will come back 👍🏻👍🏻

This place was truly amazing bartender very chill atmosphere they have gaming here all of the food was fantastic a great selection of drinks and different kinds of things that I have not seen anywhere else. The only thing I would have liked maybe some light music

The Block House in Alma hosted our rehearsal dinner and it was phenomenal. They were able to accommodate our 60 guest. The food was amazing. We did a taco bar & the chef was able to accommodate a few of our guests with food restrictions. The manager Emily came up with a couple signature drinks that everyone enjoyed! We were even able to enjoy playing some games while there as well. If you are in the central area and need a place to host a party or celebration, I would recommend the Block House!

On my way home from a conference in Lansing, we stumbled upon this place for lunch. Loved everything. Our waitress was super friendly and prompt. We started with tomato basil soup which she recommended. It was delicious and a very generous portion for a “cup” of soup. We followed it up with the power bowl w/ shrimp and the spicy chicken sandwich. I highly recommend taking a detour to try this place. We will be back!!

These cocktails are overpriced, made incorrectly and we were not even asked how they were. Also an up charge for bullet over Jim beam was $4 which is outrageous we will not go back. The atmosphere was great however if you are charging premium prices for custom cocktails you should have properly trained bartenders.

Beautiful space!! Great atmosphere & concept. Awesome bar w inventive yummy aelection. Service is knowledgable, informative, effeciwnt, & fun!! Themenu is broad & interesting - pan cultural offerings. The food is terrific- all house made. Going back w my sister tomorrow to try more dishes

Interesting spot. A cool bar with good food and computer gaming. Whlle I don't consider the menu huge, the food offerings are tasty and the service is always good. I've been to the spot twice in the past year when I've been to Alma and have always had a good experience. Not fancy, just good.

Block House is truly one of my favorite restaurants in the area (between Mount Pleasant and Alma). The food is incredible, the drinks are phenomenal, and you truly feel like you're in an up-scale restaurant. The prices aren't outrageous for the quality, and the service is great! Sometimes you may be waiting for a little while, but that's a good sign because that means they are BUSY! The restaurant is an E-Sports lounge, but you rarely have to worry about kids/interruptions. Such a fun place to go to and maybe get a cocktail, then play some Mario Cart. Lots of cool lights and exposed brick, truly a great place for dinner. (Brunch is also FAB!)

It was very clean and nice. The food was really good and the service was amazing. I loved their gaming setups and their lights and the environment was chill. Would come again if I am in town. Do recommend go try it !

Great food and service. Quiet and comfortable. Fried Cauliflower sesame garlic is our Fav appetizer! Moose Drool beer is awesome! We are here a few times a month

slowest service of my entire life. my food was messed up as well. The atmosphere was cold and there was like only one waitress working.

Passing though, heading up north on a Sunday. Found this gem and are glad we stopped in. My wife and I are both brunch and gamers. I wish there was a location like this in East Lansing. Attentive service, upscale ambiance, solid food and drinks. We'll be coming out of our way to attend future events.

First of all, finding a great restaurant near Lakeview is a big challenge and we end up driving 27-40 miles in order to have a great dining experience! We had a great dining experience last night at The Block House! The service (thank you Chelsea) was absolutely fantastic and the food was wonderful (great chef), and we will definitely return to try out more options. I chose the short ribs and hubby the Penne Vodka and both of us were pleased! Generous portions mean yummy leftovers for us both! Fabulous lighting, romantic atmosphere and beautiful table settings! Nice going, Block House!

Having lived in big cities, all of my life, Alma has been a new experience for my family and I. I have never been to a gaming bar before, but this place is super neat. My kids have a play passes, and we have eaten there as a family on several occasions. I love that there are healthy options that taste phenomenal. And we don't eat out often as a family of six, but the black house is one of our favorites. Oh yeah, the drinks are amazing! Cheers to the bartenders!!!!

We stopped in while in town for a basketball tournament. Cool atmosphere, albeit a bit confusing with the gaming added in. That being said, the bartender was friendly and working hard. The flavors in our meals were good, but the meat was poorly prepared. I got the pork bowl which was very fatty- several pieces that were inedible. My husband got the poke bowl with salmon. The mud vein was left in his salmon despite it being served cubed. I think if they can work on their quality or meat and preparation this would be a great place.

Stopped in for a Sunday brunch. Food was good and service was fine. A different atmosphere than I expected. I assumed it wld be diner type It was not. The place is a cross between a sports bar and gamer haven.

Blockhouse has an excellent Esports program, my son feels welcomed and valued there. Thank you took the Esports men for all you do for our youth!

Food is good, service is horrible. They give you a luke warm bottle of water to split with the entire table, and then never refill or replace it. Drink water before you come here or else you'll be severely dehydrated. Food takes a good 20-30 minutes to come out, even when you are the only people there.

This was a first visit back to Gratiot Co. aA friend suggested this venue which has a bar, a restaurant with delicious choices from American, European & Asian fare. And video gaming. While perhaps best appreciated by young adults, it is family friendly-very casually comfortable-super clean & GREAT staff! Wish we had one of these enterprises closer to our home Up North MI.

Every time I go here something annoys me. Whether I order a basic drink and the bartender can't even make it right but it took 10 minutes to make even though there's one other group in the whole place so I just drink it anyway (mojitos aren't good when made with tequila fyi), the servers forget about you for 20 minutes, or you pay an absurd amount of money for food just to still leave hungry because you never know what the portion size is gonna look like for what you order. I've given it quite a few tries over the last few years but I'm just disappointed. It could be great, the vibes inside are awesome, everything else...meh.

The atmosphere here is so confusing. You'll be choosing between fine, eloquent dishes for your meal and right beside you there are kids playing video games. Very limited menu as well. Especially considering the price, there's certainly a better bang-for-your-buck elsewhere.

This is a great atmosphere in a remodeled downtown space. There is a bar, a very unique, upscale menu, adult beverages, and several types of video games. Rent time or have a membership for console, computer, and VR. Staff is friendly, drinks are strong, and food is good.

We enjoyed an excellent dinner which included maple bacon Brussel sprouts, schnitzel sandwich and quinoa salad. We had 3 adults in our party. I had a margarita that was very good. We were able to watch the Michigan football game upon request. The staff put it on right away. The screens are huge and there's also a gaming room.

My first and last visit. I rarely give a poor review, but I did leave quite disappointed. I was originally excited to try an upscale and classy restaurant in my city of Alma. For positives, the decor is an interesting cyber restaurant/cafe. The food and drink, a mocktail Raspberry Mule, WAS tasty. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and since there was no ounces listed, I asked how big the fillet was. The waitress indicated a patty about 4 inches across with her hands. What I got was a tiny piece of chicken that covered less than half the bun, maybe 1.5 inches across; if it was more than 1.5 ounces, I would be surprised. When I mentioned this, the waitress checked with the manager on 07/13/2023 at about 2:30 pm, and he never came to talk, but refused to do anything about it. I would have been satisfied with $3-$5 off, or a 2nd chicken patty, but got nothing. This is very poor customer service, and very poor business, mostly by the manager. I definitely won't spend another penny there. The decor/atmosphere got 4 stars, the food 2 on flavor alone, the service got no stars, the overall was one star. I normally tip 20-25 %, rarely 10 % for bad food or service, but this time the waitress got 2 pennies, as in, "I gave them, cordially but firmly, my 2 cents worth". For their lack of flexibility and service, they got this bad review. I won't be back. If you want a good chicken sandwich with fries in Alma, go to McDonald's. Try to get better, Block House.
