Frustrating hotel. Awesome location and nice private beach. BUT…hotel is run solely by teenagers. They are sweet but not competent enough to deal with issues. Poor quality drinks. Food was not bad. Only stand out service wise was the beach attendant. He was great. Room is insanely small and in state of decay. Nicely “decorated” but not close to worth the cost. Bubbling paint on walls and moldy areas. Water/coffee station was rusty and dirty. Housekeeping was a joke. Only came once over 3 night stay. Never swept the floor. Only made bed once. Front desk assured me they would come but they did not. Had crazy violent banging on our door and screaming at 10pm one night. Truly scary. We didn’t want to open the door. Called, but no one picked up at front desk to help. Called emergency number and annoyed kid said he “would see what he could do”. Would love for a better property management to make this beautiful old hotel in a perfect spot shine again. But until then, it’s pretty much a dive with a beautiful view.

Hotel is in the perfect location in Block Island, literally right on the beach and right in downtown - if prioritizing location, this is the best spot on the island. However, the refurbished rooms are extremely small so while fine, at a high price point is a little tough if you like extra space. If planning on spending significant time in the room, might look for other options. No elevator is a bit tough too if you have heavy luggage. Service was decent.

We are frequent visitors to BI but have never stayed at the Surf Hotel no called the Beach House. Everything was superb. Check in was a breeze, our room was ready early, the staff are super helpful and friendly. The guy setting up the beach chairs and umbrellas was the most accommodating and helpful person - sweet and so welcoming. Great rooms, FABULOUS bathrooms for the Block- terrific shower. Perfect location and wonderful views. We will def be back.

For the price you pay to stay at this hotel you’d expect to be able to at least open up a suitcase inside your room. The room was comically small to the point. We couldn’t even open up a suitcase without putting it on the bed. Additionally, the light in our room was out in the sink was too small to wash your face and without getting water everywhere. We did get our room service each day with clean towels, which was nice. This location is great and they provide a service where you can get umbrellas and beach chairs on the water complementary but they often do run out and do not have nearly enough for all of their guests. We also told this hotel that it was our honeymoon and they did not write a card or wish us a happy honeymoon.

So we stayed in the so called queen with the balcony ocean view for two nights in July. First off the view and balcony are terrific it has a beautiful view of the sunset, the shoreline and the water. However the cost at over 1000 a night is ridiculous for the room that you get. The room is tiny, the bed is really a double (I know because I sleep on a queen bed at home). The bathroom is at best a converted closet, you practically are in the shower when sitting on the toilet and the sink is next to the bed. It is clean and decorated nicely. I really would have no gripe if it wasn’t so expensive. I understand it’s high season on block island so they are really charging for the direct ocean side balcony and there aren’t many of those. I paid with credit card points and enjoyed it a lot but just know if you’re hoping for a suite experience this is not it but the view is great.

Loved the Surf Hotel!! Balcony king room awesome and worth the splurge in my opinion!! Updated bathroom, room is tight. Mini fridge is very mini but nice to have. Pack light, luggage must be carried upstairs. TV is spotty to work and the AC is confusing but works once you understand it. People working there are very nice and helpful. Perfect location can walk all the way to mansion beach!!

Google
Absolutely incredible stay with Block Island Beach House. We had stayed at their sister property in Nantucket and the vibes definitely carried through here. The location is unbeatable with direct beach access while being in the center of town. The room we booked in the Gothic house was an amazing surprise as this is actually a stand alone property about 100 yards from the main hotel but worked out splendidly for our needs. Will be back.

I've been visiting BI for over 30yrs and stayed at many hotels or inns and was very curious how Lark Hotels would renovate the old Surf Hotel which was abandoned for 5 years. Lark also took over 2 other properties (The Gothic Inn and the Gables ) down the street, so be advised when booking. ||If you have trouble with stairs I do not recommend booking any of the 2nd or 3rd floors with steep staircases (no elevators) and be careful with the entrance to the staircase from the beach (you need to reach for the railing) . There is also very slight step at the entrance of the cafe that I tripped over and almost fell onto a guest when looking for napkins.| |We stayed in the queen room with balcony #110 on 2nd floor of the Beach House .|Pros- |*Great location in Old Harbor walking distance to ferry, shops, restaurants|*Comfortable bed |*Enjoyed having a balcony to sit on since the room is very cozy, BUT see the cons below|*Offered soaps etc. in refillable bottles, so no waste |*Beach staff offers towels, loungers and umbrellas if you can get them||Cons- |*Very late check in 4:45pm is ridiculous when they guaranteed 4pm via text and email.|*Walls are thin you can hear everyone in the hallway|*The shower is very tiny with no lip or door and flush with floor of the toilet, so we had issues with puddles. You will need to put towels down to avoid slipping/falling onto the toilet seat. I thought this was a ridiculous design for a room that costs over $500 per night. |*The bathroom has no vent system, and the toilet paper holder is on a slant and the roll kept falling off and got wet. (another dumb design)|*There is no window just a door to the balcony, which is not private as you can see your neighbor and the railing is not stable . I did not feel safe on the balcony and the oversize chairs are somewhat awkward for your arms if holding a drink.|*There is also a loud kitchen vent that smelled next to the balcony . | I do hope they can fix the balcony situation. Originally there was a doorway to both balconies at the top of the staircase .||I just expected more with the price and the beachy vibe photos. They certainly make it look special on the website and social media .| I added my photos because I felt the website didn't accurately describe room #110 .||I also expected more from the complimentary coffee station. How about offering some pastry/muffins especially if charging that rate. ||I hope Lark Hotels can make some improvements since this is such an iconic building in a great location on the main strip.

Yelp
I stayed here a week before Labor Day and paid nearly $900 a night for their gables property so my family and I could use the pool. The first day the pool was cloudy and didn't look great. They said they would have someone come out the next day to fix it. The next day it was green and kept getting darker until the 4th day when we left. Nobody came out to repair it. They would only credit me my resort fee of $30. The staff on site was poorly trained. I tried reaching out someone at their corporate offices multiple times with no response. I think they weren't going to fix it since they were going to shut it down for the winter after Labor Day and just lied to us so we wouldn't leave their hotel. Whoever took the photos of the rooms did a great job because you would never realize a one bedroom suite was so tiny. Maybe 150 sq ft.

Yelp
Great location! Right on the beach. Room was tiny tiny tiny! Customer service is bad from the outside bartenders to the servers. Front desk is so so.

Yelp
Used to stay at Harborside and was looking for a nice new spot. Came into Beach House to check it out. Austin behind the coffee bar greeted us immediately and shared all about the hotel and how wonderful a stay we would have if we were to book here! He suggested mimosas outside with the perfect view of the water! Austin was so complimentary of the hotel and very professional that we have decided we will book next summer! Austin made us feel a connection to the Beach House and we look forward to coming next visit to Block! I'd totally hire Austin to represent my business because he is just what you'd want to be the "face" of the business when you're not there yourself. Thanks Austin!

Yelp
We loved the Block Island Beach House and spent a decent amount of time here during our trip. The outdoor area is relaxing and pretty. There is an outdoor Tiki bar of sorts that serves delicious Pina Coladas, mudslides, margaritas, beers etc. They have food options too, which we didn't explore but they sounded delicious. There is a beautiful view of the water and lots of couches and chairs to lounge, drink and enjoy being around friends. It was the perfect space for our group of 20 plus to hang out at and it was in the perfect location to walk around town afterwards. They have spots in the back to lock up your bike. Definitely a must visit place!

Yelp
Our visit began with poor directions to our room, located in the Gables. (The Gables is not in main house, it's down the street. Our room #214 was way in back.) We never received Housekeeping services! NO fresh towels, no bed made!! We were there 2 nights. We were led to believe our room had a view of the pool which was very deceiving, we had no view!! Our accommodations read that we had two rooms, 1 bedroom with sitting room. Both with tvs. The sitting room was a joke, on first floor as you entered but very narrow no room to walk, then bedroom upstairs very tight no room for walking around. There was no area in bathroom for toiletries. Wall hung sink, no counter for items. Grossly over charged for accommodations. Over 800.00 per night and 50.00 dog fee each night! What was fee for?? I have paid less for luxury hotel with room service and amenities. Our suggestion, Do Not book Block Island Beach House!! Save your money

Yelp
To be honest I was expecting a better experience when booking three nights for a total of ~$2,000 for a three night stay. The hotel is nicely decorated but seems to be run by very young people. Throughout our stay I have not seen anyone over 25 at the front desk. That is not all bad but more of an observation. Our room (124) is small... so small that the sink for our bathroom is almost next to our bed and not located in the bathroom at all. The bed was comfortable and the view from our room was very nice. They are transparent about the room size and I get it, and was okay with that. It was well appointed and comfortable. I was expecting a little more from a Lark Hotel, after staying in our Lark locations. First, I know this is picking however, I am a tea drinker. In the mornings there is only coffee available, no decaf or tea. When I asked for tea the hotel only has one kind of tea (sadly no Green tea). Second to that they only brew coffee in the hotel between 8-11AM. So if you need a pick me up mid-day you have to go find it somewhere else. They won't make any outside of 8-11AM, unbelievable. Remember, we are spending ~$2,000 for three nights. The food was very good on the back deck. We had an enjoyable lunch with a great view of the water. We only ate once at the hotel during our stay so far. I give this hotel a 3, at best, especially given the price point. Ohh, and they only clean your room after 4PM which i thought was a bit odd. Perhaps that is a normal practice but I was just surprised that it was not cleaned earlier in the day.

Yelp
The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly! The vibe was updated and hip. Loved sitting on the porch with a blanket and book watching the world go by!

Yelp
My friends and I stopped here for some after dinner drinks and what a gorgeous way to spend the evening on the back side drinking out on their shelled patio watching the sun go down on the island. Such a relaxing vibe, I definitely want to come back and do this again.
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped in for drinks and appetizers on the back deck over looking the beach, absolutely beautiful view. Service, not so great. We ordered at the bar and the food was brought out by a very nice but very rushed waiter, he dropped off the food and never came back so we made do with no plates or napkins (we had finger food so I guess that was ok?) The food was good, mussels and onion rings. I'd try it again, mostly for the view. Hopefully they'll figure out the service.

Yelp
We were here twice and had a nice time. It's kind of an odd setup. They seat you on the porch/deck but you have to go to the bar to order food and drinks. They bring the food to you (you carry your own drinks from the bar when you order) and everything works out fine, just an unusual operation. We had a poke dish and a Farro salad. Both were fine. The poke was actually very good. The beer selection is limited but I found something I liked. My wife had a nice strawberry lemonade drink that she liked very much. The food came out in good order and the bartender was nice. We returned for a drink another time and enjoyed ourselves again. I would return next time on BIRI. There's a lot to like here.

Yelp
A very surfer chic boutique hotel with beach access and an outdoor restaurant and bar. The decor and style is very Southern California. The only drawback is that there is no table service. You have to order the food at the Snack Shack or bar but someone does deliver it to the table. Short walk from the ferries, on the Main Street in BI and next to a lot of stores and restaurants. 5 star views and 2-3 star food. The tuna ceviche was really watery and bland. We had to send back the kid's hamburger twice.

Katie C.

Yelp
We checked our bags at the "main" hotel because we arrived early. The staff was helpful and polite. We came back at 4pm to get into our room and were told we were at their "sister" property down the street...they brought our bags over which was nice, but slightly confusing, disappointing and not mentioned upfront. Upon entering the room, the pictures were not what were advertised. Our room barely fit a queen bed, although clean it had a bed, no room tor bags and a tiny bathroom with a tiny mirror. No full length mirror, no iron or steamer, Nothing. It was extremely hot and you could hear everyone else in their rooms and outside. We paid $700 for one night for the room for our 1st year anniversary and was incredibly disappointed. Clean, and nice staff, but would never stay here again or recommend to anyone else.

Sue H.

Yelp
We didn't eat here but went twice on our visit to BI for drinks. You can't beat the view of the ocean! Friendly bartenders and good beer selection for my husband who is a beer snob lol

Yelp
Literally the best grilled cheese and potato salad I've ever had! Took some clients here for lunch when we were on the island shooting their elopement and the drinks were outstanding, service was great, waitresses were super friendly, the VIEWS omg were STUNNING!!!!! I can't wait to go back
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
The view is 5 star, no question. That said, we probably won't be back to BIBH for awhile. End of season, short staff no problem! We have been regulars on the island for 20 years now, and have our favorite bartenders and wait staff everywhere. Not here though. I asked the young man at the front door "what time do you close"?He pointed to a sign on the wall and said "it's posted over there" in a your bothering me tone. Oh, ok thanks? Again, I know the island is short staffed, no issue. Out to the bar with the best view we go! Great two seats at the bar, score! Enter our bartender singing "Shy to Shy" over and over and sounding like a used car salesman waiting on us and paying $28 plus tip for two drinks. One drink came in a small plastic cup and was nothing less than a disappointing. Ordering on the iPad probably makes sense but it's hard to be 5 star with out a 5 star experience. My husband wanted me to leave a 1 star, but my goal is to improve not trash. You have a great place that could be awesome! Cheering you on to do better next year!

Yelp
We stayed at the Block Island Beach House for 3 nights in August and had a great time.We stayed in a 2 room suite at The Gables, which is a few doors down from the main location, where the pool is located (a pool is rare on BI btw). Lovely room and very central. The hotel has a beautiful beach and a great restaurant as well. My only complaint is that the TVs didn't work in our room. Otherwise it was great!

Yelp
I loved my stay at the block island Beach House. Check in was not until 4pm, but they offer to hold your bags before you check in and after you check out. I received several texts as a way of communicating with the staff/hotel which was convenient. They asked what time I would be arriving to the island and i texted back 11am. We got to the hotel around 10:30 so they could hold our bags. Immediately they offered to hold our bags and let us know we could use the beach or pool which had free towels, lounge chairs, and umbrellas. They also had a full bar and restaurant. Right as we got settled on the beach I received another text that our room was ready at 11:04 and we could check in whenever. I loved that. We decided to eat lunch and then check in. Finding a table was a little hectic, but we found one and the view was gorgeous. We got the fish tacos and fish sandwich. Both were very good. After checking in our room was small, but nice. The bed was comfortable, the room had ac, and the tv had endless stations & streaming services. The staff here also made hour stay enjoyable. They were so helpful and attentive. They made recommendations on restaurants and things to do. Always smiling and in good moods. Ed was our go to guy for everything and every time we saw him, he always greeted us like he genuinely cared. I would absolutely stay at this hotel again and recommend it to anyone looking to stay on the island.

Yelp
We stopped in this past week to have a drink at the bar. It is my favorite bar on the island because of the view. I was pleasantly surprised at how much it has changed from the last time I was there and it was the Surf Hotel. The new owners have done a fantastic job with redecorating. The new outside area is very nice for sitting and having a drink and some food with big comfy chairs and tables. While I cannot speak to the food, the drinks were strong but also my reason for the 4 stars. They were pricey! It was $22 for a beer (Bud Light) and one mixed drink (Vodka Tonic). We did look at the menu and they had a lot of good options and we look forward to eating there at some point. If you want a place to have a quiet drink with an amazing view... this is the place!

Yelp
We stayed at Block Island Beach house on a Wednesday and Thursday night in July 2020. I note this because I would imagine the weekends might be a different experience based on the island's weekend visitors. Overall we had an amazing stay. There's a lot happening here, so to perfectly execute a guests stay is no easy task...especially in COVID times. Hotel: great design and flow from the streets into the hotel. the breakfast area was closed because of COVID, but they were willing to make me a coffee in the morning. Rooms might vary in size, but ours was facing the beach AWAY from the ferry and was pretty amazing. Keep in mind, they're working with the old structure so big bay windows on the 3rd floor don't exist. My wife liked the decor and we were happy with our experience. Bar/Restaurant: there are a few things going on here and with COVID it could have gotten sloppy. However, everything seemed to flow nicely. The food and drinks were spot on, especially with your view on top of the beach(again facing away from the ferry). Beach: this could be tricky because there are a few chair rental companies. Also, it appears you could technically get off the ferry and walk over to this part of the beach and rent a chair and umbrella. That being said, it was well executed and easy to hop from beach to bar to the room. Bonus: when you walk out onto the back deck, look up to the left. There are couches and you could take your food/drinks up there for a more secluded view/experience. All in all, great experience.

Yelp
Delicious dinner on their back patio overlooking Old Harbor. Great views. Upscale beach food. Great vibe. Recommend the fish tacos, panzanella salad, and bbq. Amazing key lime pie. Great service. You order at one of the bars and your food arrives quickly at your table. Looks like they have a cute beach area for their guests. Didn't check out the rooms but the lobby was beautifully renovated.

Yelp
Reposting following this post being removed twice....is BIBH paying Yelp or something?? It makes NO sense to remove this review. As an Yelp Elite for 10+ years, I've yet to encounter unfounded, repeated censorship of my reviews. ATTENTION YELP MODERATORS: this IS an experience I had here. Please read this carefully before removing. Nope. As Block Island regulars, we were excited to visit BIBH this season and finally got around to it on our forth time to the island last weekend. I can say we will never go back. Four of us arrived for lunch and waited patiently amongst several others to be seated. One or two parties who arrived after us were seated first but we attributed that to just some oversight. The hostess proactively told us that we would be seated next. Cue an obnoxious woman who started making a scene about her party - whose party was the exact same size as ours -not being seated yet (for the record, she arrived at least 10-15min after us). The hostess, despite the table runners protests, demanded the obnoxious woman's party get seated before us. Absolutely inexcusable. And, I must say, completely opposite from what I've experienced anywhere else on the island.

Yelp
Great place to have dinner after biking around Block Island. It was a short walk from the harbor where we returned our bikes. Ambiance is casual and laid back. There is no wait staff. We ordered by the bar and they brought the food to our table. The view of the harbor and being beachfront is fantastic! Sitting on the deck provided shade from the hot sun. Appetizers were very good. We had roasted corn, grilled shrimp chimichurri, and summer panzanella salad to start. Lobster roll and brisket sandwich were ok, nothing great. Clam strip roll and pork grilled cheese were good. Rum punch was too diluted but the Whalers IPA was good.
google avatar

Dave L.

Yelp
While on our vacation on the Block, we came here three times in a week. The first was for drinks and a light lunch, the second more drinks before dinner, and the last was a goodbye Bloody Mary prior to the ferry. The new BIBH is a beautiful addition to the island. It's a much needed breath of fresh air as far as style and food/beverages. Gone is the outdated Victorian-era furnishings and the dark interior. Now it's all bright, modern with a nod to the beach culture it exists in. There were some slight glitches, as the hotel is brand new and people were still getting up to speed, but everything we ate and drank was delicious and fresh. If you're looking for a great dessert, get the Key Lime pie - it was one of the best I've ever had, and I've had my fair share. We loved the look and vibe here, and will return again for sure.
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
The new owners should've just updated necessary appliances, added A/C, and left everything else alone. The Surf's restaurant used to be one of my favorite places to eat, with a beach-classy atmosphere and triumphantly delicious food. Now, hot dogs? Really guys? This is SO disappointing. What used to be a unique menu is now just another overpriced and bland beach stand, fit for drunken tourists and families that splurge on mediocrity.

Curt B.

Yelp
We booked a room a couple of weeks after the reopening after the massive remodel. They did an amazing job on this place. It's gorgeous. Right on the beach. Walk down the beach and the sand and water are nicer. The room is great. Small but great AC for the hot days. Bathroom also brand news and really nice. Free coffee (which is very good!) and water on the 2nd floor. Big win for all day hydrating. We booked room 112 which has a balcony from the renovation. The balcony overlooks the beach which is great. Super comfy chairs on the balcony. Fell asleep out there for a nap! Although big downer is the kitchen ventilator is right next to the balcony so it's very loud. Too loud to hear the water and beach. The kitchen ventilator did not shut off until 10pm. Can't hear it at all in the room which is great. But would be cool if they would point the kitchen ventilator in the other direction. Would be a smart move to add value for the extra $$$ spent on the balcony room. This hotel is quieter than the hotels on the main road. Although I did see some rooms on the street side which have to be loud. Book the water side if you can. FYI - There's a breakfast place next to the hotel which is amazing. Perisphones.

Terence F.

Yelp
Simply too expensive for what you get. Then you have the noise. Positives: nice staff, although very new; convenient location, great views from the bars. Very welcoming to dogs. Negatives: very expensive for what you get; very loud at night but that is a trade off with the location. Small rooms with very little lighting Recommendation: come here for a drink or a meal but stay elsewhere.

Yelp
Soaking in the beautiful view! Until there's a change in management, this will be our last time here $13 cocktails served in plastic cups with a loud mouth bartender ‍ This used to be a classy spot, but now you can't even buy a martini, not that anyone could afford one Luckily, there are lots of bars on the island!
google avatar

Finchy K.

Yelp
Place looks amazing since the renovation. The lobby alone is like a beachy West Elm. Super stylish an clean. The food is also incredible. Havent stayed here yet, just visited but I now feel comfortable recommending this place to anyone.

Yelp
This is our third stay at the Block Island Beach House and will be back again in a few weeks. Location is perfect, rooms are small but very clean, staff is very attentive. It's our go to when we visit BI.

01931 F.

Yelp
This was a horrible experience. Room promised was not even on the water. then people blasting music all night and no one at front desk to help. Dog (owned by the manager) going to the bathroom on the sand in front of all the guests and even when asked no one cleaned it up. Our priced food .. the whole experience was terrible I wold NOT recommend.

Yelp
Went here on Labor Day and got one of the grilled cheese sandwiches. It was soooo good. I can't wait to come back here in the summer when Covid is over!

Yelp
This place is amazing! They have done such a fantastic job! We enjoyed the beach extra with Dan as the cabana boy- get him a raise! He is truly incredible and accommodating- he made our trip! What an amazing soul. Get the salsa & the brisket- the BBQ mustard is out of the world! Thank you again, Dan! You are a rockstar and a true gift to BIBH

Ronelle C.

Yelp
Stopped for a late lunch. Great location. I ordered the salmon (the smallest piece I have gotten out, perhaps a one inch wide sliver). Cooked well but not worth the $27 price. Drinks were good. Google restaurants on Block Island. There are better places to eat.

Nancy C.

Yelp
Great views from the wrap around porch but don't rush to eat there. Food was just OK but pricey considering there's no wait service and everything is served on paper plates with plastic utensils. Has issues with ordering drinks from overwhelmed and surly bartenders who didn't seem to care about customer service at all. They actually told us they couldn't make one of the drinks we ordered. Wanted to like this place but I'm not going to rush back.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Great view for dining but the fries were cold upon arrival and the Caesar was 5/6 croutons, barely no greens. They must have thought it was a panzanella. Would not recommend for the food.

Yelp
I simply cannot imagine staying anywhere else on Block Island! We booked this as a last minute getaway and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice! We had the king vintage studio which was plenty big enough and absolutely loved the quirky decor! The bed and the pillows were so comfy I would have loved to take them home!! The description did say the room was tiny but we didn't think so as there was plenty of room and could even accommodate a few guests as we were the meeting point of family that were also staying at other hotels further out on the island. The bathroom was huge with a great shower and plenty of space for toiletries. Access to our room was directly off the front porch which was a definite deal maker for us! I didn't find the room to be noisy, I thought it was rather quiet considering it was so close to the main road. The staff was amazing and very accommodating. We completed our check in on-line so just stopping in to pick up keys was super nice. We didn't ever have an issue with social distancing in the public areas as other guests just all seemed to be aware and even though the lobby is tiny it just works when everyone does their part. We enjoyed cocktails at the beach bar with an amazing sunset and no crazy loud music that another review had stated. Maybe we missed it? The seating pits were comfy and cozy and made for a nice evening of just relaxing and enjoying conversations and waves. We only stayed two nights and cut our last day short since the weather wasn't very nice but I can't wait to go back! Will definitely want this same room!!

Yelp
We've been coming to BI for 15 years and have always rented houses. I've never been impressed with the hotel accommodations on the island and as a result, would never stay at any of them. No longer the case. BIBH has taken an old, delapitated prominent hotel right in town and through a meticulous renovation, brought it back to life. Beautifully done with respect for the old yet enhancing it with modern, casual flair. No longer dark and dingy - it is now airy, bright and fresh. And clean. Impeccably clean. BIBH has taken all the necessary precautions to keep not only their guests safe but also their staff. It also has one of the few restaurants directly next to the beach. Great food. Fantastic wait staff. Well done. Highly recommend

Yelp
First trip to block island but would recommend this place! Drinks are fairly priced and good to get you buzzed. Try the clams and fish tacos, they are a great option!

Yelp
This hotel was absolutely beautiful and in the best location of any hotel property on all of Block Island. The hotel is directly on the beach! The lobby, the rooms, the decor, the atmosphere was all amazingly inviting and so classy. Actually all properties run by Lark Hotels are wonderful! I stayed in a room on the first floor located on the front porch and had a great night of sleep, regardless of being located on a main road. The room had great blackout curtains for sleeping, an extremely comfortable bed, air conditioning units in every room, a bar, a restaurant, a great boutique area with items for purchase. The staff was beyond attentive and so helpful. I will absolutely stay here again!

Yelp
Years of history and charm obliterated in the blink of an unimaginative eye. Surfboard decor? Thankfully they left the building alone-one Star. The Gables may not be as lucky.

Yelp
We booked a room here for a few days and having never been to Block Island before, needless to say, my wife and I were excited. The hotel is at the perfect location overlooking the ocean while relaxing on a couch on a beautiful seashell patio. The staff was great and the room, while on the smaller side, was perfect for just the two of us. I mean how much time does one spend in the room anyway while on this beautiful island? There was one slight hiccup which was handled with courtesy and professionalism by the manager, Coreena(spelling?). We had an issue in our room after the first night and made the staff aware the next morning. We were told it would be taken care of by the time we get back from the beach. Well, it wasn't and we asked for another room. Being completely booked, that was not an option. This is when Coreena stepped in. She was wonderful and a pleasure to deal with and I couldn't expect it to be handled in a better way. Unfortunately, we were unable to spend our last night at the hotel, but the experience will definitely bring us back the next time we are on the island. Kudos to Coreena and staff.....

Yelp
The old surf hotel has been redone! Some rooms have been left to look like the old The surf with modern updates. Like private Bathrooms!!! The beds were super comfortable. The sheets were really soft. However they were very low to the ground. This might not be good for some. There are two pet friendly rooms on the first floor with "city" view but it really is no view! Because the windows are blocked and this made the rooms very dark. I think they should have chosen a lighter wall paper to brighten it up. I understand they were trying to keep some of The Surf nostalgia but in the ground floor rooms it's just to dark. The room had everything I needed and more. A small refrigerator, a/c steamer iron, 2 tv's, plush bath robes and a large private bath with rain shower. I do think they need to install towel racks and shelf's around the very tiny bathroom sink. This would make it a lot easier to get ready. There is an on sight cafe with great coffee and beautiful restaurant overlooking the ocean. You can't get a better view. I do wish they would allow dogs in part of the restaurant/Bar. Considering we were staying in a pet friendly room and paid substantially for it.

Yelp
Went twice in the same day. 9/28/19...First time we had drinks out back and the bartender was overwhelmed with just a few people in line for drinks. He held up his hands and said everyone must wait 10 minutes for me to restock the bar. (All he did was get ice) drinks were ok and expensive. Because the food looked good we went back for dinner the same night. We sat right away and food came out pretty fast despite the chef who was waiting on tables and cleaning up. We heard about the Key lime pie that we took to go($8) it was a very very small piece not a slice... Overall it was a solid 3 star. The food was good but the bartender was not so great... Came back for another dinner because we did have a great meal and the kids decided we go back. I've change my star rating to 4 because the food is great. 4 more meals that all were good. Calimari, crab cake sandwich and a BLT with the best bacon I've had...Waiter was very attentive (Alex) he did a great job.

Yelp
This property has two sections - the old Surf Hotel and the old Gables. I'm commenting on the Gables. The Gables was one of the few remaining truly budget properties on the Island, right downtown, where people could stay a few nights for a reasonable price. It was humble, with shared baths, but homey and family-run. My family has stayed there for more than a decade. Lark Hotels, an off-Island luxury hotel chain, bought it up, closed it down, and intends to renovate it into a luxury property where they'll double or triple the price. Blech. There goes one of best old-school, reasonably-priced places on the Island.

Yelp
This place is a scam . Everything is overpriced and they work hard to try to bait and switch. They obviously paid someone a lot of money to make the pictures on the website look as appealing as possible. We got a 2 bedroom "suite" based on the pics and description, we figured we would pay the $1000 nightly price just to all be together comfortably as a family. We got there to find ONE tiny bathroom that could barely fit one person and some closet sized bedrooms. When I approached the manager Ed to ask what could be done he couldn't have cared less, said to take it up with 'senior management'. When I asked for a contact number the reply was 'oh I'm not allowed to give you that'. Classic bait and switch. Stay far away.

Yelp
We are very picky hotel people and we love this place!!! They did a phenomenal job renovating (it is an old house so things are not perfect but pretty damn close!) The rooms are cozy & clean. The food was great. Staff was very friendly. You can not beat the location. The patio and front & back decks are amazing. Can not say enough about this hotel!!

Yelp
Fabulous from start to finish. Chowder was tasty - light and flavorful. I had the fish special- salmon. It arrived still sizzling w a delightful pesto. Side of biscuits w honey jalapeño butter was awesome. It was fast but not rushed. Chris was our waiter and he got it right and was professional and attentive. Best meal I've had on bi.

Yelp
Ohmygoodness. Do yourself a favor and come here for a surfslide with a salted caramel vodka floater and the pork fries. Great service and food. Amazing view. Going to need a side-by-side taste test, but their mudslide (AKA surfslide) DEFINITELY rivals Champlins You be the judge!!!

Yelp
Review is for restaurant on the deck.. One of the best views on the Island. Always has been a favorite spot for lunch and drinks on frequent visits to the island. Not anymore, since being sold. The bartender on the deck doesn't know how to make a long island ice tea, they push pre-made drinks, though the mudslide was good. Drinks at 13.00 plus are served in plastic cups. The outdoor furniture is in disrepair. Looks like mostly chairs meant to be inside, varnish and paint peeling. Our legs stuck to the sticky varnish. The few appetizers we ordered were nothing special. So many better choices for food and drink.
