5 Stars – An Exquisite Evening at Blue Jazz Cafe My friend and I were looking for somewhere special to enjoy a Saturday night, and Blue Jazz Cafe exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was calm, elegant, and incredibly inviting. The staff was friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The presentation of each dish was beautiful—true fine dining in every sense. We ordered the crab cake pasta and the Mardi Gras pasta, and both were absolutely divine. The meals were well seasoned, packed full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. Every bite reflected the care and creativity behind it. We also appreciated how convenient the downtown location was, with just a short walk from parking. It was a wonderful experience all around. We’re already planning to make this a tradition and will absolutely be recommending Blue Jazz Cafe to our friends and family. Please keep up the great work—highly recommend! Thank you for such a memorable night!

Google
got the creole crabcake pasta, and it was the best crabcake that I’ve ever tried. The pasta itself was very good, very flavorful and creamy and not too heavy on the stomach. Good portion sizes and the bread that comes with was also great. Overall, the food came out fast, service was good, highly recommend this place and I would come back.

Google
The food is always scrumptious at Blu Jazz! Tonight, the music was loud for our table--we were seated closest to the live musicians (father/daughter act, last name Hudson). The music was wonderful! Perfect for the ambiance. Just a tad loud. Pictured are fried green tomatoes and shrimp & grits. Definitely will be coming back soon

Google
Who do you contact to get paid to say nice things about this place!? The chicken was not fresh it was frozen, maybe even precooked and warmed up. Actually over warmed up tough and nasty. Would not recommend this place at all!! On the other hand the service was great, absolutely incredible service and the sweet tea was the great. The music was loud and annoying though. Especially when you factor in other guest talking, staff and then the music on top of all that; yea it was a lot!!

Corrie H.

Google
The food was great. Got crab cakes and the amount of crab that was in it was great! But it had a creole sauce on it that tasted more like ravioli sauce. It was good but not what I would consider creole. So i took a star off cause I was hoping for real cajun food. The stuffed pork chop was amazing. 10/10 would recommend getting it. But my kid's tenders were dry and so was my husband's fish. I expect better for those prices. So I took a star off for that. I gave 3 stars but I would go again just for those pork chops!

Google
We stopped here after visiting The Lucky Rabbit and the food didn’t disappoint! The Redfish & Grits was a 5/5! The atmosphere was very nice and subtle. Would definitely come back if in the area again.

Google
The crab cakes were insanely good. My husband's rare steak was perfect and my shrimp and grits were creamy and delicious. The portion size of the grits was huge, I couldn't even finish them. Cocktails were all very good as well. It was our first time coming and we'll definitely be back.

Google
Came for lunch. Wonderful jazz-like atmosphere.Staff was welcoming and on point. Food tasted amazing and had nice portion sizes. Catfish was perfectly seasoned.

Yelp
My wife and I went here for an early dinner over the weekend and really enjoyed it. We used to go to Walnut Circle Grill in Downtown Hattiesburg several years ago before they closed down, and the food definitely reminded us of that place. Our waitress Sharlot was very nice, and the chef, who was also very nice, delivered the food to our table himself. We got the fried green tomatoes, stuffed pork chops and Mardi Gras pasta. It was all awesome. That creole cream sauce they put on the stuffed pork chops is one of the best sauces you'll try.

Yelp
We had an amazing , unexpected , and memorable ding experience here for a late lunch. We walked into this "cafe" in downtown Hattiesburg to find white paper on the tables, tastefully decorated and a perfect volume jazz playlist providing just the right ambient music. Charlotte our server couldn't have been more knowledgeable about the menu, the establishment and the area. I ordered pork chops, eggs, toast, & grits. Husband had the Blue plate special , and chose the catfish, collard greens & coleslaw to go with the hush puppies & cornbread. They had a full bar & a tempting specialty cocktail menu as well as happy hour specials but we decided to stick with water as we were on a road trip. Again, this was a completely unexpected experience. Everything was cooked to perfection & tasted incredible. Charlotte explained that this is the closest to New Orleans style food that you will find around. She then told us the chef offers "a taste" of 2 deserts (changes daily if offered). A white chocolate Brad pudding and a chocolate cake with sauce. Oh wow!! Much more than a taste but full dessert portion. Both were so good and genuinely appreciated. Such a good meal, with incredible service and beautiful atmosphere. We will be back. Thank you!

Yelp
Hands down the best pork chops ever! My husband and I drive an hour and a half just to eat here, and it's always worth it. Every visit, the food is spot-on and the staff makes you feel right at home. We'll definitely be back next month -- can't wait!

Yelp
Nice, cute, cozy brunch spot whether for a date or just out with some friends. Very friendly staff and jazzy live music. The sweet potato pancakes were a hit! And the bartender whipped up a couple tasty mocktails. I would definitely circle back next time I'm in the area

Yelp
After walking around downtown Hattiesburg, we decided to stop in for a late lunch. Seated right away, the ambiance is very relaxed but also upscale at the same time. The food was delicious. We had the chicken salad, blackened redfish and grits, and blackened chicken pasta. Everything was top notch! I also got a side of greens that came with the most delicious cornbread. Our server was also fantastic and took good care of us. Highly recommend if you are in the area!

Yelp
This little place has my family's business now. Our waitress was very attentive. The food is PHENOMENAL. My parents got the fried green tomatoes and they were the best I've ever had. I got the sweet potato pancakes with fried chicken, it was divine. My hisndand got the chicken and waffles and it was delightful. My dad and brother in law got the stuffed redfish and I think it was the best redfish I've ever had. My sister got a ribeye steak and it was also quite tasty. Overall we will be back to explore the menu even more!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! We had a party of 8 and everyone loved their meals. The Yardbird plate with sweet potato was pancakes was phenomenal! Highly recommend the blueberry mojito! We also had the redfish, redfish and grits and fried okra! All delicious. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Went for brunch and was not disappointed! Good food, good music, good service. I will be going back!

Yelp
Today was the first day I got the opportunity to stop by the Blu Jazz. I've passed by on several occasions but always been too busy to stop. Always smelling indulgent aromas in the air, upbeat music, and a dark alluring atmosphere I knew it wouldn't be long before I would be drawn in my this mesmerizing force. I was right. We walked in and it was like stepping into a downtown New Orleans upscale restaurant. They aim to please for sure. There was instrumental music filling the room. It wasn't so loud that you had to scream huh, and wasn't so low to where there were awkward silences. There was Mardi Gras necklaces hanging from fixtures that made you feel as if a parade had just come through. We were greeted and seated awaiting our server. Our server came out post haste. She was very considerate offering a dinner menu in the beginning and then a brunch menu. She gave us time to order and came back with suggestions for a drink. There were different special available based on your alcohol preference. We ordered and the food came out in a timely manner. The food was cooked to perfection. We got the chicken and the stuffed redfish. Both were very good. The fish was nice and flaky and not over or undercooked. Since we do not eat carbs she gave us veggie options. They were amazing. I would have to say we will definitely be return customers. I would recommend. Location: 5 Prices: 5 Customer Service: 5 Cleanliness: 5 Quality: 5

Yelp
Hands down best experience I've ever received from a restaurant! Quickly greeted and seated with an unmatched southern hospitality, Mr Charles Carter was hosting the Fourth of July Brunch and had the place rocking! Everyone was interactive with the singing and clapping, the vibe was nothing short of amazing. I got a shrimp PoBoy with jambalaya, being from south Louisiana I always expect a sub par sandwich but Blu Jazz Cafe did not disappoint one bit! Shrimp were nice sized & fresh, jambalaya was perfectly moist and seasoned. Even the battered fries were incredible, my lady ordered a hamburger steak with fried okra and potatoes. The okra looked and tasted fresh cut and hand battered, the hamburger steak definitely tasted like a fresh hand made patty. Every single thing we had ordered was nothing short of Great! We were having such a great time singing and enjoying the show we decided to stick around and order some desert..... white chocolate bread pudding with the sauce and my lady ordered the brownie and vanilla ice cream these were probably the best desserts I've ever had in a restaurant! I honestly can't get over how great of a time we had! They gained life long customers for sure!

Yelp
We went to the Lucky Rabbit antique stores and bazaar on a Saturday. This was our first visit to downtown Hattiesburg. The downtown area is quaint and lively at the same time. We decided to try the Blue Jazz Cafe, based on reviews and the menu. This was one of the best decisions we have made in a long time. I can't adequately describe the flavors. They were amazing!! We started with crab cake appetizers. These were delicious and the sauce was perfect. I had their daily special, which was called Grits and Grillades, I believe. It was stone ground grits, with smoked short rib for a protein, caramelized onions, green and red bell peppers. I was able to cut the meet with my spoon!! It was that tender. The dish was very good. My wife had the shrimp and grits. It was the best shrimp and grits we have ever had at a restaurant!!! The cream sauce was so flavorful!! The shrimp had great flavor and was not overcooked. It was mind blowing quality. Our server was very engaging and attentive. The meal was nicely spread out, meaning we had our drinks for a little while before we got the appetizer. There was plenty of time before our meal was served after the appetizer. We enjoy having time together while enjoying a meal and not feeling rushed. The owner, Nelson, is very personable and humble. I enjoyed having some conversation with him as I was leaving and he opened the door for me. He seemed like a genuine person. I highly recommend Blue Jazz Cafe if you are in downtown Hattiesburg.

Yelp
Everything was really good, food, service, and clean!!! A must try! Went for brunch on our way to Gulf Shores. Group of 11 no problem.

Yelp
Great service! Food was fast. Ordered chicken and waffles. Super tasty. Wish I would have ordered shrimp and grits, those smelled and look good.

Yelp
Came to Blu Jazz cafe while staying in Laurel Mississippi and everything was closed on the 4th of July in Laurel and we were not warned by the B&B we booked at. Right at the start from walking in the door, I was greeted with big smiles. Sat promptly. Cool place with a great atmosphere. We were lucky because a blues, jazz band that sounded phenomenal started to play. Southern Creole dishes on the menu so it made it hard to choose. I wanted to try them all! I at the chicken daily lunch special and my husband ate the chicken and waffles. We ordered crab cakes for an appetizer. The crab cakes were all crab, big and delicious with a little creole sauce on top. Phenomenal! Our lunch was fresh and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this restaurant. The adult cocktails are great too! The staff is super friendly and happy you are there. This was one of the best restaurants I have been in for years.

Jacinta J.

Yelp
Omg!!!! Kudos to the chef! Went there and could have stayed! The food was SUPERB! The staff made my time there spectacular! Gave you a vibe of actually being in New Orleans! I wish that I could give you more stars!!! Certainly deserving of it! I WILL BE BACK!

Yelp
Healthy servings with amazing taste! Service was fantastic as well. Great place to come inside and sit down for a great meal!

Cartalia L.

Yelp
I found a piece of hair in my food, which was really disappointing and unsanitary. When I brought it to the staff's attention, the manager only offered to replace the side -- no apology, no discount, no real effort to make it right. Mistakes happen, but how they're handled matters. I won't be returning, because the lack of accountability and basic customer care was just as unappetizing as the food. Manager name: Alice

Victoria S.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, service and the food was absolutely wonderful. We had crabcakes and redfish, which were beyond good and the portions were huge. This place is a gem.

Yelp
We were visiting Hattiesburg and had no idea what would be a good place to go to so we used Yelp and found this place. It turns out the locals agree that this is one of the better stops for lunch and probably dinner but we did lunch. I ordered a catfish and fries and I have had catfish in the past that I wish I had not ordered. But this catfish saved all prior attempts. It was tasty flaky and moist. It really was the best Catfish I ever had. We will be stopping by again when we next visit family in Mississippi.

Tayla P.

Yelp
I come here for a graduation dinner and the experience was terrible. We waited nearly 4 hours for our food. Once we received our food my food was completely incorrect. I ordered shrimp pasta and received shrimp and grits. After this mistake I asked the waitress for a discount because I was told my food was given away by accident. The manager comes and informs me that they do not do discounts even if they inconvenienced me. I do not recommend at all.

Brandon F.

Yelp
I have been her twice. Once for dinner and once for brunch. We will not make that mistake again. WAY overpriced and the service is absolutely horrible!! Waited an hour for a table for brunch and spent $200 for brunch. The waitress forgot our appetizer and forgot 2 of my kids orders. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
google avatar

Gabriel S.

Yelp
I've enjoyed it. Service is acceptable. food is tasty, and the dim lit jazz atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable.
google avatar

Sandra E.

Yelp
Service was above and beyond our waitress was on point. The food was okay nothing outstanding. The steak was a bit salty and too much pepper it lacked other seasonings. Brunch was priced fair. Cute establishment.

Yelp
Visitors to Hattiesburg, Blu Jazz came recommended by a local we met in a bar. With a jazz band playing the Saturday night we were there the ambience was perfect. Table service was top-notch and the cocktails were generously poured. Across five diners we got chicken, steak and the catfish. All very good. Out the door tipped five of us cost $300. Great dinner experience in Hattiesburg.

Ramae C.

Yelp
We stopped here as we passed through town on the way home after a Thanksgiving trip. What an unexpected surprise! We were hoping for a comfortable place to grab a quick bite but it was so much more! The service was great. The staff were so friendly and we even met and chatted with the owner but the biggest highlight was the food. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! My favorite was the red beans and rice but the chicken and waffles were amazing too. We also ordered a green salad with grilled chicken and fried shrimp, mashed potatoes with the most delicious gravy. Everything was so good!!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Had brunch Saturday. Our server Maylayna was great! We tried crabcakes, taste of New Orleans, and blackened pork chops with eggs. We enjoyed everything and the grits were exceptionally good.

Sephir H.

Yelp
Great live music and fantastic food. The ambiance is a bit odd and the cigar store next door can leave a scent inside, but the food and servers more than made up for it!
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
Loved the ambience and the wonderful helpful workers. The food is exquisite and will definitely go back.
google avatar

Jay J.

Yelp
Vibes are great! Food? Not so much, it's good if you're looking for a quick bit (I guess). My food was flavorless but pretty. The service wasn't to die for either, I went with a group of friends and sometimes felt like my waiter dreaded to come to my table. Nevertheless, we tipped. Would I go back? Not at my own will.
google avatar

Robyn M.

Yelp
Excellent excellent excellent!!!! The ambience, the music, the food, the service and the hospitality, all deserve 10 stars!!! Whether you're passing through like us, a local or staying in town for a while, you MUST try the Blu Jazz Cafe! Just go. You won't be sorry. You may even look me up to thank me. Thanks to Nelson and Keagan for wonderful food and service. See you next time we're in town. Wait! See your in the morning at the bagel spot for breakfast before we head out.
google avatar

Will E.

Yelp
We went to this place after being in Hburg for almost two years. With COVID it was closed when we first moved so on an anniversary night, we gave it a shot! Service was perfect with Elanna and food was really good. The only thing I would suggest is expanding the wine list. Reds were pretty basic and there would be a lot they could do with little effort! Pix attached. Red snapper grilled and blackened and stuffed with a huge baked potato, salad and broccolini. Stuffed with shrimp and crab meat. Oh, the appetizer is crab cake with shrimp and some sort of Cajun sauce. Awesome. Good music as well. Very nice spot. Check it out!
google avatar

Renee R.

Yelp
We had our son and daughter in-laws wedding rehearsal dinner here . Jay and his team were very accommodating and reasonably priced . We offered our guests the redfish, crab cake pasta the NY Strip .Each of these entrees were amazing. We noticed in the lower level was live music . A fun local place for your next occasion out
google avatar

Nunya B.

Yelp
Oh yeah. The home wreckers in this place will give you good feelings the whole time you are there. Music is awesome. Nice little place.
google avatar

Kelsey P.

Yelp
Wowza- this place was so delicious! I go to New Orleans quite often, but this shrimp poboy was one of the best I've had. My friends got the steak and eggs and the fried catfish with grits and fries and also had nothing but great things to say. Whatever they do when they fry..they're doing it right. I didn't get a photo but the bread pudding that was brought out for my friend's birthday was also soo delicious, and I'm picky about my desserts without chocolate. Lastly, Eric was such a great server! He was super kind and fun and made our experience very great. Great jazz atmosphere too- This place rocks (also sorry for the terrible photo I didn't expect to be writing this lol)
google avatar

Kirk C.

Yelp
The food was exceptional (shrimp & grits, chicken & waffles, Mardi Gras past & crab cake, and steak & eggs). The service was on point and the ambiance was perfect. Met the owner Mr. Nelson who speaking with truly has a passion for success. We already enjoyed south side bagel almost weekly that he also owns and will have to try Hattiesburgers that he also owns next. Will surely be back!
google avatar

Brandy B.

Yelp
We had excellent service at the bar and after we at dinner down stairs. It was the first night they were open and it was excellent. We I'll definitely be Back.

Yelp
Hattiesburg is winning with this place! Although this was my first time visiting since they've been established, the staff made me feel like I was weekly regular. The parking is decent, especially since there wasn't much going on the night we decided to try it out -- we got a fairly close street park. The ambiance and atmosphere when you first walk in is welcoming and exudes a real home town vibe. Our server, Keiana was awesome -- she was attentive, personable and pleasant. We ordered the nachos as an app, which is something I highly recommend! Our entrees includes, the burger, the grilled chicken with veggies, the catfish and the wings. Everything was awesome and priced at very reasonable prices. I would def suggest a visit to this restaurant in downtown Hattiesburg!

Roxie T.

Yelp
Do not make an online reservation. We were traveling from Jackson Ms. back home to Al. On a Sunday and made reservation online at 11 for 12:30. Got there at 12:30 and was told by the hostess that they didn't honor online reservation and there would be an hour wait.
google avatar

Yelp
We frequent here (and their other 3 associated restaurants) weekly. Food is ALWAYS excellent (at all 4). Best bartenders in town. Staff is always friendly and the owner is very personable. Great atmosphere with the music and each establishment has a great ambiance being in the downtown area. Live music all the time. The balcony bar is a great vibe. All around great restaurants.
google avatar

Jeanie M.

Yelp
Love downtown and Blu Jazz!! Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Food is wonderful. Always plenty - large portions. Fresh, flavorful and presented appetizingly. We enjoy Saturday brunch and dinners at night. Tonight I walked with my puppy, we sat outside. Service was just as great outside as inside. I ordered the Hamburger Steak - normally a bland meal at most restaurants- NOT here! Very flavorful and moist. Rice was perfect and not instant, gravy & onions fresh not boxed. Wonderful flavors. We enjoy Blu Jazz and will continue to return!! Almost forgot - Live music. Jazz / Saxophone Tonight. So easy to listen to. The music even pumped outside. No regrets!!

Beejee D.

Yelp
Glad it's returned to the scene! Downtown needed a semi-dress-up restaurant, even if it's only open weekends. A trimmed-down version of the firstBlu Jazz menu that kept most of the good stuff (try that VuDu shrimp if you haven't!) and very good drinks. Love this place, can you tell?

leon j.

Yelp
Downtown Is where it's at. You can thank me later! Good food and amazing staff and live music.

Yelp
First time for lunch. Went on catfish Fridays. The catfish platter came with great slaw, hush puppies and french fries. While the sides were great, the catfish was hot but I'm looking for the catfish as it was all breading and was very salty. The server came by and asked how we were enjoying our lunch and told her about the catfish. Few minutes later, she brought out a fresh batch of thinly, less salty catfish tenders which were full of catfish that one could see and taste. Thus gave them a 3 for trying to make a bad order good and hopefully next time I order the catfish platter it will have catfish in it, thinly breaded with cornmeal and less salt for the first try. So I will give them a 2nd Chance. Same interior as former restaurant, dark and they play jazz music.

Will S.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant for the first time last night . Food was good , atmosphere was nice , and waiters were nice . About halfway through our meal my wife and I said we she come here more often and make it a once a month date night . Then I ordered my 2nd drink , the "The Hub City Hurricane ". This drink was horrible . All I tasted was straight alcohol . This drink would put the best of drinkers under the table . To me it just wasn't mixed properly and the taste wasn't appealing at all. I took one sip and sent it back in exchange for something else under the expectation that it would be taken off of our bill . The waiter then later returned and said that she would not be able to remove the drink from our ticket . She sent the manager out and the manager explained that it was there policy to not take drinks off of the bill and she could give it to me in a to go cup. (Ma'am, the drink was nasty the first time you brought it to me , I'm not sure what a to go cup will fix). She argued that the drink was mixed correctly and that's how it's supposed to taste and she would not be removing it from the bill . So our visit went from awesome , definitely will be returning on a regular basis to this establishment will never see another dime of my money , all over a $11 drink. Note to management , you should put your policies on the menu or somewhere in the establishment to let customers know your policies . This is the first time I have ever been to an establishment and sent a drink back because I didn't like how it tasted and they didn't provide a feasible solution that worked for both parties . Why risk a bad review or hundreds of dollars in revenue over a $11 dollar drink . Also , looking at other reviews Blu Jazz does a horrible job at taking criticism . What tastes good to the owner and the staff could indeed be nasty to someone else .

Yelp
We came here lookin for atosphere and what we got was so so much more. Traveling thru, and we find this wonderful spot... our server was so so nice . We all got a variety of things. Yelp
Great food at this place. In downtown Hattiesburg perfect spot. I have gotten the catfish the jambalaya the breakfast burger and chicken wings. Never had a bad meal. Live music flows on the regular so grab your crew and stop by.

Yelp
Great food and service. The cheeseburger was excellent. Seating was a little tight with a wheelchair.
