How cafes in Singapore create socially-conscious experiences

"A meticulous specialty coffee outpost located in Raffles City that prioritizes high-quality sourcing and pays above-market prices to support producers. The brand reinvests in origin communities through agronomy programs and farmworker support, and since 2020 has partnered with Enveritas to catalog and evaluate farm practices for environmental, social, and economic sustainability—using that data to drive continuous improvement. It has also set a carbon-neutrality target (by 2024) with specific efforts to make green coffee sourcing more sustainable and to lower the risk of deforestation." - Ben Chin

02/Sept/2025 Had Americano, Cappuccino, Double Espresso & Canelé with Kaya with 3 friends, was quite good. Ordered another round of 2 Americano + Iced Nola with oat milk. Indoor seating is relatively small here but we didn't wait for too long before getting a table. Staffs were cheerful and friendly, they made us feel welcome. And they're ready to make recommendations. Pricing is on the higher side in my opinion. I'll be back!

I recently tried their long black at their Paragon Outlet. And I liked it. Very gd coffee, robust but not too sour or bitter. Although seating area is not large.. This Raffles City outlet offers more indoor AC seatings vs their Paragon Outlet. Whereas the latter offer more outdoor alfresco seating. Which can be quite warm in the afternoon.

Nice café with good coffee and tasty pastries. The place feels warm and welcoming, but it gets quite crowded on weekend afternoons and can be a bit noisy. Not the most relaxing spot, but the coffee quality is great.

Blue Bottle’s debut in Singapore has drawn plenty of hype, and the experience met expectations. The café has a clean, modern look, but it was packed and slightly noisy during my visit, with long queues and limited seating. Staff were friendly, but the rush seemed to affect coffee quality, the coffee in the takeaway cups seemed to be not as aromatic as those in the eat-in cups. Worth a one-time visit if you’re curious, but not ideal for a quiet coffee break.

Review of Blue Bottle Coffee: A Mixed Experience Blue Bottle Coffee has finally opened its official coffee shop, much to the excitement of fans who were disappointed by the limited retail launch last year. However, despite the initial anticipation, my visit revealed a few challenges. The coffee shop is bustling, perhaps a bit too much. It was incredibly busy, making it difficult to find a seat and enjoy the atmosphere. While the coffee itself is certainly good, the noise and crowd made it hard to fully appreciate the experience. The design of the store is appealing, with a modern aesthetic that reflects the brand's commitment to quality, but the ambiance was unfortunately overshadowed by the hustle and bustle. For those looking for a tranquil coffee experience, this might not be the ideal spot, especially with so many people drawn in by curiosity. Overall, I found it to be a standard visit, and while I appreciate the quality of the coffee, the noisy environment made it less enjoyable for me. If you’re a fan of Blue Bottle, it’s definitely worth checking out, but be prepared for a lively atmosphere!

Coffee used to be better when it first started. Barrister seemed to have changed, probably have gone to new outlet. However, my recent 2 visits including today, my flat white was again ~ burnt. Tasted v bitter and burnt. 😵‍💫 It’s disappointing as the coffee wasn’t like this when it first started. And my visit at blue bottle HK coffee in Aug wasn’t like this. Their coffee was quite good. I will visit blue bottle for the pastries.

There's definitely some buzz around Blue Bottle Coffee lately. It gives off a vibe similar to % Arabica and, like that brand, it's often mistaken for a Japanese chain. (though it actually originated in the U.S. and has strong presence in Japan). The space is bright and inviting, but seating is quite limited — not ideal if you're planning to chill for a while. Prices are on the steep side, especially for coffee, though they do offer a selection of pastries to go with your brew. Overall, it's an okay experience. Good for a one-time visit to see what the fuss is about, but not exactly a place that bowled me over.

Famous all over the world and finally in Singapore. The price tag reflects its fame and popularity but not all may agree the coffee is worth it. There are long Qs as this is the first outlet in Singapore and with anything that takes time and attention to craft, churning coffee out like a factory will definitely affect its quality. Staff try their best, are friendly and there’s ample seating as most buying to go.

Yelp
Coffee is good a little on the higher side price wise. Problem is patrons don't clear their cups after they are done. Staff don't clear it either.
