Blue Chip barber shop

I recently started work back in the city and was desperate to find a new barber nearby to minimize and simplify one of life's regular chores. I tried a few other spots near my new building with little fanfare on the final results. Mike from Blue Chip nailed my hair transformation on the first try! I brought some pics in and he knew exactly what to do converting my grown out older hairstyle into a chopped, textured & faded masterpiece. I have found my new barber shop! Thanks, Mike.

I’ve been going to Bluechip for the last 6 haircuts or so and every time I’ve gotten a really good clean cut. I’m at 5/5 on their consistent quality (consistency is most important for a barber imo). Shop is a bit hard to find, once you’re in the lobby you’ve got to go down the stairs and do a 180 to the left.

Great barber. Fast, consistently good, nice atmosphere. A little hard to find the first time. Go to the address, enter the building, and go down the escalator. Highly recommend!

Mark is my guy!! Hard to find a barber whom can fade asian hair. Let alone someone that is also a great person to chat with! He’s one the best in the area!! Go see him, trust me. The fade is immaculate!

The gentleman Barber allowed me to show him a photo of an old haircut I had. Not even a model's haircut. He looked and said, "got it." I knew it then but already too late and now a day later: the worse cut ever! Sorry. He was very nice but damn!! It sucks. My hair grows back fast, but double damn!

Mark delivers and I am somewhat picky about haircuts. Have spent 2x at a salon and had worse haircuts. You're going to leave looking good. Not men's warehouse good, blue chip good

Excellent OLD SCHOOL barbers at a decent price, kinda difficult to find them in the basement though, good for a straight forward tightening up when you need cleaning up, they take walk ins & get to you pretty quickly - I was seated in a chair instantly...

Been coming here since moving to the city since 2021 and haven't went anywhere else since. Was nervous about finding a new barber shop after moving but they made it an easy experience. Mike and Mark are great at listening and are happy to hear any feedback you have before, during, and after a haircut. They are pros!

The owner, Mark, is my guy. Great, professional barber who honestly cares about how I look when I leave the shop. He noticed that my hard part was a bit off, and recommended waiting for it to fill in before re-doing it. It's been an improvement. Pricing is spot-on for FiDi as well. The shop has also been recently updated with new chairs and it's a pleasant environment. 5/5

I was sick of paying through the nose for a haircut in my neighborhood, so I put faith in the positive reviews and walked into Blue Chip earlier this afternoon. All I can say is that I'm almost loath to write a great review for fear that tons of people will flock to this hidden gem which is incredibly affordable for a quality haircut. Lubasha listened to what I wanted (which was pretty simple) and did offer up a comment that more may need to come off since my ends were in pretty rough shape (understandable, since I haven't had a haircut in over a year). As she was cutting my hair, she said, "Now your hair is smiling." I'm glad I trusted her judgment, because I came out of there with a nicely shaped head of hair; now I am ready for that interview on Thursday! Pro-tip - if you go in cashless, you're probably going to have to find an ATM (of which there are plenty nearby); not a problem if you read the reviews before you go. Unselfishly, I highly recommend them.

Such skills and amazing prices make this place a hidden gem! Each time we are in the city, both my husband and 7-year old son get their haircuts here (and they are both super picky!). Still open during COVID. We felt super safe. The shop is clean and organized and allows for proper social distancing. Will never pay 5th Avenue prices when we can come here and look like we did! . Great place to come in a bull or bear market!

first and foremost - this place is cash ONLY. I felt horrible, because I had enough to pay for my cut ($30) but did not have enough to tip, but I went back the following day to tip her of course...mainly because Lyuba took care of me! got layers and shorter hair, and she washed it, cut it, and dried it quickly....I thought since it was a wash and even a quick blow dry it would be more but $30 is not bad at all! I will definitely come back here again...

This place is amazing!! Luba did a wonderful job on my hair! She is so kind and really really knows what she's doing when it comes to cutting hair. For the quality of the haircut, the prices are amazing. I only paid 30$ for a cut and she shampooed as well. Highly recommend! Update: I went back and got a blowout from Luba. She my hair is very fine and lifeless. I asked for a lot of volume. She really took her time and gave my hair life!!!!

After searching and searching throughout Fidi and lower Manhattan for a decent cut, one year after moving here i came across Blue Chip and made an appointment. I hadn't quite noticed it on my map before so I decided to give it a shot. I have gone to nearly every barber from fidi through to the west village and let me tell you - I have been ripped off, Ive been given attitude from nearby douchy places for asking for a tape up, and I've traveled 25 mins on bike to get a haircut. NO MORE! FINALLY!! Mark is very friendly - does an AWESOME fade - and is reasonably priced. $25 for a fade - and forehead shape up. He was quick and my hair looks great. I'm reluctant to write such a good review for fear of him getting booked up, but I want this place and the barbers to remain here forever. This is my new spot! Save yourselves a lot of time and money and come here. They're great.

I don't like spending a lot on my hair. I went here because it's near work & had good reviews & the price is right. Will go back probably forever because I got an amazing, salon-quality cut from Luba. My 22-year-old coworker with a flair for fashion said it looks "a lot more hip" - I'm not sure what that means exactly but I appreciate Luba for helping me catch up with the times.

This is my go to place to get my haircut. After months of overpriced haircuts that weren't what I wanted, I found Blue Chip and Aida. Aida is one of the few people cutting hair I've met who can give a proper fade. She ALWAYS knows what I want. Always gives me the haircut I'm looking for and she's fast but thorough. Seriously, if you're looking for a place to get an amazing haircut for a reasonable price -- go to Blue Chip. Under $25 for a haircut that looks good, grows in well, and a barber who knows what she's doing. One tip - Blue Chip is CASH ONLY so be sure to stop at an ATM before you go.

Luba is amazing!!!! I have hair almost to my waist, she gave me layers exactly as I asked around my face, volume at the top and long layers in the back. She checked in halfway through to make sure I would be happy. I walked out of there looking like I had gone to a ridiculously expensive salon. This is literally the best cut I've had in a decade. On top of that she was so warm and lovely to talk to, it was like getting a hug at the end of the day. As if that wasn't enough the lady doing hair next to her was also so much fun and kind to me as well. I not only looked great walking out of there, but I felt wonderful. It's one thing to look pretty but quite another to feel pretty. Thank you Luba, you are a very special and talented lady!

Best haircut I've gotten in financial district. Affordable, efficient on time and always do a great job as if it's an expensive haircut. I've been coming for 6months now. Just go into 42 broadway and down the escalator to get there.

I needed a trim and walked in after reading the reviews. I didn't wait long and got Aida. She did a shampoo, cut and blow dry, it was $55. I have a little longer than shoulder length and extremely thin hair. The cut has made my hair look really awful, she has somehow made my fine hair even stragglier. She didn't seem to have any interest in the kind of hair I had or issues I wanted to address. The place is neat but not necessarily sparkling clean. For the price I paid, I would have had a better outcome and experience in Chinatown. Not worth it for me and I won't be returning.

Just had a hair cut here and the lady used the razor for my sides AND THR TOP OF MY HEAD. I have never seen anyone attempt to cut the top without using scissors. My hair is probably 1-2 inches long and I wanted a trim to that to tidy it up. I came out with a standard 5 year old hair cut. Never again. Whole haircut lasted 6 mins.terrible.

I originally came here and didn't realize they had closed for a religious holiday. Mark the owner helped me come back at a time that worked for us and I was seen by Lubasha who was AMAZING. She did an amazing job on my hair and cut off only what was needed but enough to make it look healthy yet long. The best part is the hair cut was $25. I would recommend coming here since not only was it super clean and the staff was super accommodating and helpful but the price is pretty good too. Would absolutely recommend if you live or work in the area!!

Cannot speak more on the brilliant service provided by Blue Chip Haircutters and Luba! I showed her one photo and voiced my concerns over length and damage, she immediately went to work and I walked out with better hair than the model I wanted to reference. She is definitely one for conversation and making you feel comfortable as well which is huge since the City tends to be kind of crass. Thanks so much guys!

I just had my hair blown out here and the lady basically lectured me after I told her I wasn't pleased with the look. I informed her she over teased my hair and just wanted it fixed but she just came yelling at me. They then charged me $55 after telling me it would cost $35 on the phone. I am not usually a negative yelp reviewer but I don't appreciate being berated.

Lyuba does an EXCELLENT blowout at a great price! She took me in on very short notice early in the morning, and worked quickly even though I have a lot of thick hair. The blowout lasted a few days, and I got so many compliments! Great for anybody who works in the area, and anyone looking for a great hairdo!

Wow! That is all I can say after coming to this place and receiving a very good fade for a very reasonable price for downtown Manhattan. I came in yesterday and was very impressed with the service offered by one of the barbers, I believe his name was mark. He gave me a very impressive skin fade that even a few woman at the bar commented on. He really took his time and made sure to clean up all the edges. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants good service and a good haircut. Mark was great and the rest of staff seemed just as knowledgeable and welcoming.

Traveling into NYC for a Madison Square Garden concert, I had extra time and needed haircut so friend recommended Blue Chip. Not hard to find, I was impressed by the friendly staff and clean shop. Wait wasn't long and cut was excellent.

The onlyyy place I go to cut my hair. Luba is my go to girl. She cuts and styles your hair in a way that makes it look good not only when it's done, but also when it's kept natural. The place is typically booked (for good reason!), so make sure you call in for an appointment ahead of time. Friendly staff, and never a wait, because they run in a timely fashion. I've been cutting my hair here for the past 6 years- from simple trims to drastic bob cuts- I haven't been disappointed once. Highly recommend!

The place is cash only but they have an ATM in the same building (at their temporary location, early 2018) I went for a blow dry without an appointment and Aida did a great job! She was super sweet and attentive, asked me what style I preferred. My blow dried hair look great and lasted till next day.

I've been here several times for cuts, and it is the best cut I've gotten in nyc - and it's $30!!!! It's a hole on the wall, with wonderful women working there, and they do a fantastic job. Every time I go in for a trim to clean up my dead ends, and they make sure not to take off too much length. This time I went to Luba, and I was so impressed!

I got my third haircut today at Blue Chip so I feel very comfortable recommending this place. I get a short fade with a hard part and I am always nervous about trying a new barbers because a mistake on a fade or part can look very bad. But Mark the barber does an excellent job shaping and styling the fade and the hard part for a sharp look. At $20 the haircuts here are a great bargain compared to prices at other locations. Also, every time I've gone, they fit me in to a busy schedule, and I very much appreciate it.

Aida has been cutting my hair for over twenty years and I travel a long way to see her having moved away for last three years. I know I am one of many, many loyal customers she has because she's very skilled and careful while never rushing. You'll be very happy with Aida and you'll look great!!

No idea what these 5 star reviews are about, wish I didn't trust them. Only customer in there, yet hairdresser flew through in about 5/6 mins. Asked to get scissors trim on top, not sure she knew how to use a scissors.. just took chunks with the shaver and comb. Convinced me I needed a beard trim, after telling her how I've had too much taken off before, tell her just a tidy up, don't take too much off. Proceeds to lay into it with the shaver. Only for I told her that was far too short straight away, I would have said goodbye to it, by which she seemed to get offended.. Decided to take a chance on this place, after reading good reviews. Never again.

Great barber shop in Fidi. Good prices. Alex takes the time to both listen to what you want and offer you his idea for setting up your hair now to get the look you want down the road. Never had that before and it was very refreshing to have that convo and plan. He's fast, affordable and the place is clean. Most importantly he gives a good haircut.

In 2010 I stumbled upon this secret gem after a horrible haircut left me searching for a place willing to take a walk-in early before facing my office peers. Luba sat me down, salvaged my horrible cut, while reassuring me that my hair would grow back! 6 years later and I'm still faithfully going to Luba. Yes- the place looks like a barber shop. But where else can you find someone willing to squeeze me in when I decide the hair must be cut off immediately? Where else can I find a place that lets me get just a cut for $20 and not leave me feeling judged for not getting a full wash and blow dry? Luba knows hair. And she knows how to make you feel beautiful even if you feel like you look like a wet dog- staring back at you in the mirror. Non Pretentious. Affordable. Consistent. I'm sold.
