"The blue dog in question here is the subject of revered late local artist, George Rodrigue, whose work can be seen all across the state, especially in New Orleans and here in Lafayette. Rodrigue’s art is incredibly accessible, and loved by kids and adults alike, so there’s a good showing of families at the café. There’s also an arty crowd that passes through to pay their respects while chowing down. Guests are drawn in with some southern classics and then introduced to more unusual dishes that might tempt them to broaden their horizons. Crab cakes and boudin balls for appetizers are standard in this part of the world, but there are also some glorious seafood wontons and a shrimp en brochette that comes with jalapeños and bacon that really stands out." - Paul Oswell

Made it out to Burger Night! Was my first experience here. I really enjoyed looking at the art, the atmosphere was very cozy. Our servers were great and the burgers were awesome! Our group ordered one of every kind. My favorite was the Mike, with the blue berries and blue cheese! Hella great combination! My second favorite was the Veggie, the eggplant was awesome!! 🍔 And of course beignets to top it all off! 😋

Great food and atmosphere. My husband and I came to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. The staff was great and helpful. I got the smoked pecan catfish and it was amazing. My husband ordered the half and half with fried shrimp soft shell crab and crawfish ettufee. We also shared the bread pudding with caramel pecan sauce.

Really nice staff, food was okay. Their menu has changed and they are still working out those changes. We had to return the eggplant because it was undercooked. The staff tried to make it right immediately, brought us a different dish, very helpful.

The staff were all very courteous and my server Julie was super nice and very good with all of my questions. I had the Blue Crab Linguini. It was super flavorful but very spicy! You better have a high spice tolerance if you get it. I loved it but if the heat was a little lower it may have been easier for me to notice the garlic, and crab. All in all it was a beautiful and tasty dish. I also had the peach cobbler with brown butter Icecream. Let me tell you, save room for desert people because this will knock your socks off! Both stand alone would be very good but together, amazing! It is a must try. I’m looking forward to trying more here. ADDITION: I did return a couple days later to try the burgers. They have some unique choices. I went for “The Coy” which has Guinness cheese sauce, jalapeño slaw, fried onion rings (on the burger) with a Jameson honey reduction. I had in my mind there would be lots of the cheese sauce but there was very little. The reduction was very good, in the end a very tasty burger. It came with a side, I chose fries. They were shoestring fries which I loved but would’ve been better if they were hot right out of the fryer. These got cold very fast. I added a side of Mac-n-cheese, they used Gruyere cheese, which I love. It was very good as well. Of course I had to have the cobbler again! Man I was stuffed!

Google
If I could give six stars I would. I was impressed with Blue Dog Cafe of Lafayette. The half/half and boudin appetizer are some of the best things I’ve ever eaten! Go, and enjoy the neat artwork, and superb Cajun dinning experience.

Visiting from Wisconsin. This is our first time to this establishment and the first impression was excellent. Our waiter Zack was professional and knowledgeable of the menu. The atmosphere was great and the food was excellente . I highly recommend this establishment for your Cajun experience. Plus I hear try have live bands from Thursday to Saturday evening. We plan to visit again.

Google
Super friendly staff. They were very accommodating for me when I went to grab some take out for my sister at 4:30 (Dinner normally starts at 5) after her surgery and they made her dish early for me. My sister was so happy with her food and loved it! The restaurant also lives up to its name and is covered in wonderful blue dog art. I love the restaurants atmosphere and I wish I could have stayed longer. I would definitely recommend them!

Google
Classy feel, but jeans and a polo are totally welcome here. Saw sharply-dressed couple dates and blue-collar guy's night outs sitting at adjacent tables during my visit. Try to accidentally come on a Wednesday burger night, like I did, and you won't regret it. Fantastic gourmet cheeseburgers, and the owner even randomly stopped by our table and asked for a review, which I was happy to provide! Get to this place and enjoy some great food under the watchful yellow eyes of the odd blue dog artwork. As a bonus, if you are a people watcher you'll see some interesting scenery that you would not have expected. Beignets for dessert were an excellent decision, but being two hours away from NOLA, they were a bit crusty and not quite as perfect as the real thing. But that did not slow me down!

Yelp
Chelsey L. was an excellent waitstaff!!! Sweet. Helped us with best suggestions. Always had our drinks topped off, and checked on us a lot to clear things and refill bread or drinks. Ask for her if you can! The corn (and crab?) bisque was 10 out of 10! Soooo delicious. Served hot and perfectly seasoned. I could eat 2 bowls of that alone. So tasty. Their alligator bang bang appetizer was so tasty. Crispy crust and drizzled with their awesome house sauce. Highly recommend. 10/10 Their jumbo lump crab cakes were also very tasty. Excellent bake/fry on them. And loved the sauce it came with; just enough spice to it without being overpowering. 9/10 (because it was just 2 crab cakes) Their shrimp po boy had a great serving of shrimp with their house sauce. The bread needed to be toasted more - it fell apart a little bit as it was cut in half. But again, great flavor! Shrimp fried to perfection. And that house sauce is great, a little tangy, a little spice, and really yummy. 8/10 The Bon Temps chicken salad - decent serving. The dressing was THICK. If you like that, great! The salad eater doesn't like thick dressing so they dipped their salad into the sauce to have the flavor. 8/10 Loved the ambience. Loved the music. The workers there were super nice and outgoing. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Gosh, this place feels like eating in a Disney Cajun-land restaurant. Everything was fine, nothing stood out. Waitstaff was great and kitschy decor was fun. Next day we ate at Rita Mae's in Morgan City and we might as well have been in another universe; authentic and delicious in every way.

Yelp
We really wanted to this place to be great. We arrived around 1:30 pm. We were seated quickly and our server was lovely and addressed us promptly. We placed food orders and then it all went downhill. The food took an extremely long time. The alligator bites, recommended by the server, were soggy ( a combination of too much sauce and not a hard enough fry on the breading). The skewered shrimp was way too salty. The sides were okay. Their signature sweet potato mash was probably the best thing served to us. We also had the seafood salad. The shrimp were cooked but really needed more time in a pan to get color. The crab was dried out and, although described as lump, was more like the chipped left overs at the bottom of a can. And not a ton of ruffage for a salad item. The bill total for one app and two brunch entrees with ice tea was $71. We did tip 20% because it's not the servers fault. We did not attempt to rectify any complaints because it was clearly a lack of skill or will in the kitchen. I wanted to leave a better rating. The venue is cute. The ambiance was fine. There was a fantastic singer performing. But the food took an incredible amount of time coming out, and for the value, it wasn't that great. Not to mention, we had to make emergency stops for the bathrooms in less than an hour of eating.

Yelp
Stopped in for an after work cocktail. Kinda busy for right after 5 but that's a good sign. Typical south LA decor but in a good way. Cocktails were delish so we got 2 rounds before heading out. Need to try the dinner next time

Katie B.

Yelp
Great meal at Bon temps. Half priced wine bottles on Tuesday nights. Have friendly and efficient service throughout the night. Really enjoyed the alligator bang bang bites as an appetizer and the crawfish étouffée as an entree which comes with two sides.

Lisa R.

Yelp
We had high hopes for some tasty Cajun food-it sure looked tasty but..... Disappointed for sure! Somethings wrong in the kitchen!! Grits were cold, corn tortillas cold and dry. Etouffee pot pie was tasteless with no crawfish or shrimp in sight! Waitstaff was fine. We would not return! If anyone there asked how our meal was I would have shared this with them. Coffee was hot and fresh so appreciate that.

Glenn J.

Yelp
We were passing through LA and my wife has never been, so I introduced her to some Cajun/Creole food at Bon Temps. Landon was our server and he gets five stars along with the young ladies that helped him out. WE started with 2 Moijos which were great. A further investigation of the drink menu showed we were just under the happy hour time limit, but Landon and the other staff displayed great customer service by taking care of our second drink, since Landon was tied up with a party of 25. We ordered Pepperjack Boudin Balls, Shrimp & Tasso Pasta, & Sweet Chili and Honey Chicken. All the food was exceptional and even though I'm not a picky eater, my wife is. So, in summary the food was great & the service was exceptional thanks to Landon and the rest of the staff.

Edward F.

Yelp
Great experience! Joanie gave very friendly service. Our party of 7 enjoyed their meals. Only room for improvement was the potato salad, kinda reminded me of Sysco.

Gillian B.

Yelp
Recommended by my hotel and yelp. Parking is small and I noticed that while driving by and also notice they stay busy. Went with a friend and we had happy hour drinks (denoted by alligator image on menu) I had lemon lavender drop martini. It was tasty but I should have upgrade vodka but there goes happy hour price. Lol I ordered red beans and rice meal and the blackened chicken pasta. Both were ....o.m.g goood! Seriously the red beans and rice is like Popeyes but hella better. Just missing the Cajun sprinkle. Pasta was soulfully tasty. I could had my chicken more blackened but that's just me. You get complimentary house garlic bread and it's fresh warm and soft. My friend ordered boudin and sausage and it was delicious too. Service was friendly and on point! I cannot wait to go back and try other items.

Yelp
Was in Lafayette for a few days and wanted to eat Crawfish Etouffee and their's was the best by far, compared to two other restaurants in the area. Great flavor and full crawfish tails through out the dish.

Richard N.

Yelp
Food was really good. Never had crawfish enchiladas, definitely worth the experience, felt a bit overpriced though, but great tasting nonetheless!

Brandell L.

Yelp
Pulled in about 5pm. Greeted and seated right away. The place was decked out in Wonka decor they are doing a charity event for Grief Counseling for children. Kenzie was our server and was so helpful, patient and kind. On her recommendation we tried the Jalapeño and Crawfish Hushpuppies appetizer and they were the most amazing things I have tried in a long time. Flavorful and paired with a remoulade that I would be down to drink it was so good. We split a Gator Bang bang poor boy the only negative I have to say about that was there was no kick that I would classify as a spice/kick but the Gator was cooked perfectly. I paired that with a Gnarly barley Jucifer IPA and it was delicious and well priced so I didn't feel guilty having another. My daughter ordered the kids Gator Mac and fries not your blue box Mac but quality scratch Mac. I was shocked to see it was only 3.95 and it turns out we were given an old menu because it was not in fact 3.95 but 6.95. All in all I highly recommend checking this place out!

Scott S.

Yelp
I went here because it has decent rates on Yelp! I sat down at the bar around 6P for an early dinner. The bartender was a younger guy that said he was going to school at UL. He was very cordial and made some menu recommendations. He said his favorite item was the Crawfish enchiladas so that's what I went with. I got maque choux and veggie skewer for my sides. The enchiladas are very rich and cheesy. They don't look like much when they come out in a serving boat but I struggled to put them both down because of how rich they were. It was the first time I'd tried maque choux. It was pretty good and had a little spice. The veggie skewer helped cut back on the richness of the enchiladas. I don't make it to Lafayette often. The next time I'm in town I don't think I'll make it a point to come back. I might use Bon Temps as a fall back.

Victoria R.

Yelp
Hands down this is the best fried catfish I have ever eaten after decades of my Cajun love affair. The etoufee was average at best but the crispy fish was sheer perfection. Asparagus was a tad blackened and sparse but good enough. Our alligator bang bang appetizer was excellent--crisp and sauced just enough with a good tang and not too much heat. The shrimp poboy was also very good and packed.

Jeremy T.

Yelp
This was the best restaurant I visited on a recent trip to the Lafayette area. The atmosphere alone sort of reminded me of a Mexican restaurant, even though the food is cajun, or a derivative of it, at least.. It helped they were having an event the night I visited, and all waitresses and several employees were dressed up, and there was live music on a Tuesday evening, early. I tried the ceviche, trout entree with mango salsa, and the chefs fresh catch, which was a thick fish filet, I forgot the exact fish, but it really hit the spot with the Satsuma sauce. I also added a cocktail as part of the event, which was on special for like $5, I couldn't resist. It was their version of a chocolate martini. It was well worth the price. I did skip out on their raffle that evening. I really wanted to try the desserts, but I ended up skipping for next time. I had another spot picked out for dessert in another part of town. Service was superb, even though the restaurant was sort of packed by the time.

Yelp
First time in Lafayette, choose BT Grill cause of review of crabcakes. Wife's bday, crab cake her fav. Been married 55 yrs so lots of bdays- I think this was the best! Everything perfect! Waitress- Danelle(perfect), Crabcakes, bisque, gumbo, perfect. When we shared bday wishes we Were presented with complementary bread pudding (the best). We often drive from Fort Worth to NOLA, first time we have split the trip to stop in Fayetteville...it won't be the last.

Angie S.

Yelp
server was nice, great food selections, Managers stopped by table to say hi., fun music.

Jamie B.

Yelp
We ate here a few months ago. We ordered apps and entrees. The place wasn't busy when we arrived. believe there was live music, which was cool. The meat pies were good but nothing amazing. I ordered the Praline Chicken salad and again, it was good but nothing special. The service was fine. Bathrooms were clean. Overall, it was a reasonably priced nice place to dine.

Emma

Yelp
Food was great!! To say Donavon was an amazing server is a complete understatement!! He greated us so kindly, great service! Definitely recommend!!

Steve F.

Yelp
Traveling through from Colorado to Florida the long way, we had a craving for some decent Cajun. We found Bon Temps Grill, ordered at least 5 items on the menu and everything was way delicious! Catfish was prepared as good as I've ever had. Étouffée, red beans with rice, crab cakes all were outstanding. Seasoned & prepared perfectly! One reason for choosing this establishment to dine was reading the 4 & 5 star reviews on yelp and Christy C., Business Customer Service responding to everyone's comments both good and negative. We had the pleasure of meeting Christy and know that this restaurant and their employees really care about theI customers. Looking forward to driving thru again. Bon appétit

Melissa W.

Yelp
Fun restaurant I recalled from back in the day. I had the crawfish pie which was delicious. If not traveling for work I would have had some cocktails. Nice bar area with piano and dancing.

Brandian R.

Yelp
Was in Lafayette, LA for work and wanted a place to watch the MNF game so I stopped into Bon Temps Grill. Man oh man it was the right decision. They had live music from a young lady who took request and had a beautiful voice. I sat at the bar and where Carly and Brittany both served me. They had great energy and knew the menu very well. Brittany suggested i get the alligator bang bang, as well as the catfish. Both were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. I love that that even though they had sauces on them the batter was still crunchy. I highly recommend the alligator bang bang as a starter. Light but very flavorful. The potatoes on the side of the catfish were crispy yet not overbearing. Good complement to the meal. Carly suggested the crème brûlée cheesecake and it almost put me to sleep at the bar. I almost took another piece back to my hotel. 5 start from the food, service and ambiance. Definitely will be going back and bringing some folks along with me to enjoy a wonderful meal.

Stacy E.

Yelp
Bonnie went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied and served to perfection! The shrimp salad was delicious! The meatloaf sandwich is big enough for 2 and ok. We enjoy the lighting and music here since it gives a relaxed southern atmosphere where a drink can be enjoyed anytime of the day Yes, I recommend this place!

Jed J.

Yelp
The service was good, the ambiance was chill and laid back (maybe that's normal for Louisiana?), and the food was exceptional. My grilled asparagus (a recommendation from our server) was delicious, the jalapeño cheese grits were yummy, and the crawfish enchiladas were good!

Krynn L.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! They had live music and the place was decorated festively. Our waitress was super attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed the Gator bites appetizer. We also really enjoyed the mixed drinks

Daphne J.

Yelp
Spent the day with my daughter sight seeing in the cute city of Lafayette. Some friends told me about this restaurant-actually they raved about it so I had to try it out. They were right-it was really good. We had this dip which was well seasoned and full of flavor. I was too full after to get a large entree so I had a cup of chicken and andouille gumbo (yes-for my people from south LA-you can eat it-it's like they make it at some of your "people's house"). LOL It was actually a teensy spicy for me but my daughter did not think so. Our servers were awesome and gave us some info on the history of the place. I'll definitely go back when I'm in Lafayette again!

Theresa H.

Yelp
We had a great experience! Our server was knowledgeable and the food was **chef's kiss**!

S P M.

Yelp
We love this place. We stop here every time we go through Lafayette. Great food good service and ambience.

Leslie W.

Yelp
First time in Lafayette and stopped here. The service was amazing Mary did an excellent job. The food was great this was my first time trying the catfish and it was delicious. The restaurant itself has a very cute stain glass that I remember, absolutely loved this place and will be back!

Tariq H.

Yelp
Hands down, the staff was extremely courteous, and provided excellent service. The food was super delicious.

P B.

Yelp
Ordered food to go. Shrimp tacos were not very good--the tortilla was too dry. The fried catfish didn't come with any sides. Price is a little high for the serving you get. Disappointing to say the least.

Tillie R.

Yelp
The food was delicious, service was excellent! Highly recommend! The corn and crab bisque was perfection. The Fried Catfish Mon Dieu is excellent. The best catfish I've ever had. Catfish was hot and crispy but with the lightest delicious batter and covered with crawfish étouffée. Scrumptious! Bread Pudding was the perfect dessert to end the meal. You cannot go wrong here. DELICIOUS!!

Pete M.

Yelp
Our hotel suggested without hesitation that we eat at Bon Temps. So glad we did. Easy parking, quick greeting, seated in a central location. The atmosphere was energetic and the place was clean and clutter free. We had a couple of staff getting drinks and appetizers- alligator, that was very tasty, cooked perfectly! The catfish étouffée was delicious! Crispy, almost half inch thick meat; the étouffée was fresh and full of shrimps. Service was great! Plenty of time to eat our appetizer and then didn't rush us at all when we had finished our meal. Great meal at a very reasonable price. We enjoyed the live music! I'll be back when visiting the area for business or pleasure.

William H.

Yelp
Poorest managers that don't honor reservations. Last time and only time Manager stated reservations are only a suggestion. Was told my wait even with reservations would be an hour and a half. Was my last time in. Won't be going back, and I was a regular not any more

Andrew S.

Yelp
I will say the crab bisque was absolutely incredible, but the night turned quickly. We had a small order and it took 50 min to come out. Not to mention, the restaurant had maybe 3 other families eating is all and 20 employees. On top of that, we ordered what was recommended and it was no bueno. Hands down the worst prime rib sandwich I've ever had. It was tough, jerky tough, and a huge let down.

Nikki P.

Yelp
Excellent service, delicious food and great drinks! Enjoyed live music with Abi Claire! We had the bang bang alligator bites, delicious! They were so tender and had a great flavor! The Crawfish pie was so yummy! The chili butter grilled shrimp skewers were fantastic too! Crème brûlée cheesecake was amazing! We are staying in Lafayette for a few days and heard about this restaurant from a friend in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and it did not disappoint!

Jasen Y.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite. Loved the food (I had the catfish). Great service and the ambiance was excellent (live music). I will definitely be back next time I am in town!

Ray H.

Yelp
This was our first visit to BTG in its new location, the former Blue Dog. We had both dinner and lunch here and were happy with food, service, and overall restaurant vibe. My wife had the 8 oz. sirloin for dinner and the loaded bacon cheeseburger (minus bun) for lunch, both with side salad plus grilled veggie skewer at dinner. Very pleased. I had the Pic-a-Fish for dinner with salad and brussels sprouts. The speckled trout was perhaps a little too thin for grilling so was dry at the thinner end of the filet; the satsuma Creole Meuniere sauce was very tasty and helped though. The brussels were a winner. For lunch I had the seafood Creole Cobb salad, which was quite good. With dinner an excellent Paso Robles blend and for lunch a California Pinot Noir. For lunch my cousin joined us, ordering a shrimp poboy, which was huge. He said the shrimp were very well cooked. Prices are moderate, servings are generous.

Bernice T.

Yelp
Lunch after day one of a soccer tournament, we Yelped restaurants and Bon Temps Grill popped up with good reviews. Thought we stop by and give it a shot. We stopped by around lunch time on a Saturday and it was busy but not crowded. Food was good, not a fan of the complimentary garlic bread, but it was not bad either. The kids enjoyed it! Main thing is our server Jason, he was awesome! He was honest about the menu, and gave us his recommendations on hot items to choose. He was also very patient, and attentive. Thanks, Jason! We'd definitely stop by again if we find ourselves in the area.

Bo F.

Yelp
Really good food. No wait. The shrimp n Tasso pasta was awesome. Great service and our waitress was very attentive

J T.

Yelp
Our family was really looking forward to eating here. The food was just okay for me. I got the prime rib at a medium temp... the outside was charred and the inside underdone. The side portion of the potatoes was really disappointing. Others in my party had the tuna tartar, Cobb salad, ribs, the sausage board, crab dip, and crab cakes. The crab dip and sausage board were the best of the bunch. The crab cakes while crispy were not held together well. Overall, just okay.

Julie E.

Yelp
Great ambiance, service and food. They have live music on what appears to be every night. service is fun as well!

Maggie C.

Yelp
Called in ahead and were seated immediately for Mardi Gras dinner. There was a live band, they asked if we wanted bar seating or further back--we said further away and they seated us in a back room, REALLY AWAY from the music. Got the alligator bites, and were also served table bread. Never had alligator, but it tasted just like chicken. The batter was nicely seasoned. Ordered a Manhattan, it was actually a bit tasteless. It's not on the menu so I asked if the bartender would be able to make it. It didn't taste like there was any kind of vermouth in it. Tried the crawfish etouffee with the grits and brussel sprouts. Etouffee was really delicious. That sauce was flavorful, with a little kick in spice. The crawfish tails were a bit small. The rice though, wasn't cooked fully. The grains were still hard in the middle. Ended the meal with their chocolate cake. Perfection. Service was also excellent.

Adele M.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was great. Close to Lafayette General, so it was a nice place to take a break from the hospital room. Would have liked a bigger piece of waffle with my chicken but it was delish!!!

Hank M.

Yelp
Great food and great service and a great ambiance was very mellow and nice would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone

Alexis M.

Yelp
Servers were delightful and the food was amazing. I tried the crawfish enchiladas and was not disappointed.

Alissa A.

Yelp
We made reservations and were seated immediately, our server was wonderful, very attentive and friendly. The bathrooms were clean, and the live music was very cool. The food was amazing! The alligator bites had a good breading to meat ratio and the sauce was amazing. The crab cakes had a very solid, crispy breading shell, but they were great. The Blackened Chicken Pasta was delicious! The rest of our party loved their entrées as well. Seems like you can't go wrong with anything here!

Jarrod S.

Yelp
Service and live music was great. Did not have a drink because I had a lot of work to do but they looked to have great selection. Had the prime rib and was cooked well but the red beans and rice was cold. Would try it again.

Robbin M.

Yelp
First time to Lafayette and received several recommendations for this little gem. So glad I listened as it was a wonderful experience. From meeting the staff and their fabulous Southern hospitality to the absolutely tasty food. Definitely a full 5 stars!! The overall atmosphere is warm and so cute. Live music on certain nights and a side bar to the restaurant. I had the Catfish topped with Crawfish Etoufee. Pecan pie to go and even Alligator. Jason was a most gracious host and took time to invite me inside as they weren't open yet but allowed me to wait at the bar. He also went thru the menu with me and made several recommendations. I honestly can't wait to come back next time I'm in town.
