This was the 4th time I visited Shipshewana. I was going to stay in one of the cheap hotels again, but then, I decided to treat myself and stay at the Blue Gate Garden Inn. I am glad I did! As others have said, it is rather corporate, and it turned out that everything I did was owned by the Blue Gate. I didn't like that part. But, the hotel itself was quite nice. At night, when I arrived, I thought that my room overlooked a parking lot, but in the morning, I saw it overlooked a field -- with cows!
I liked that the bathroom had a bath mat; I'm always a little afraid of slipping in bathtub. The sides of the tub were a little high for a short person like me, though. The bed was fairly comfortable, but the pillows were a little squishy for my taste; I think I ended up using 3 of them to get the right support.
The breakfast buffet was really good -- so many choices, along with the omelette station (although, I wish they'd offered some veggies for the omelettes), and they were all good.
I did swim in the pool & I sat in the hot tub for a while. Both were quite nice, clean & looked recently remodeled. I do wish the ice cream & pizza place were open longer and more consistent hours; since the town basically closes by 7:00, it would've been nice to have had that option when I arrived at 8:30 p.m.
Overall, it was quite nice, and I'm glad I opted for the fancier place rather than the cheap one.
