Blue Ginger Cafe was the perfect breakfast spot during our Lanai adventure! Everything is made with fresh ingredients, and you can taste the quality in every bite. The pancakes and French toast were incredible - moist, flavorful, and literally melt-in-your-mouth good. These weren't your average breakfast dishes - they were something special. The fresh juices were equally impressive - each one we tried was delicious and refreshing, perfect for a morning on the island. The cafe itself has a charming, welcoming atmosphere right in the heart of Lanai. It's exactly the kind of local gem you hope to find when exploring a new place.

Google
Easy 5 stars. This luncheonette on the Lanai City town square was recommended by a tour driver, and boy did he ever have it right. Best club sandwich I've ever had in my life, with shoestring fries that were top notch themselves. Highly recommend. Menu pix are current as of July, 2024.

Google
What a great little place to grab breakfast on Lana'i. I had the bacon egg and cheese sandwich and my wife had the breakfast burrito. Both were very tasty!

Google
Great breakfast spot! On the quiet side of the park with plenty of parking. The food was great, and it came put quick and fresh.

Google
Excellent breakfast! Had a standard breakfast with 2 eggs OM, corned beef hash, fried rice and toast. The fried rice had bacon and spam in it!! It was delicious and more food than 1 person should consume.

Google
This is a quaint little cafe that walks you back in time. When you step inside, you will feel the nostalgia of a different time in the past when time was slowed down. The menu has a lot to choose from. The teriyaki chicken is great. Enjoy either indoor or outdoor seating and also make sure to bring cash. Credit cards are not accepted at this location.

Good portion size at reasonable price and everything tasted good. Cash only so remember that. Would stop by again if in Lanai another day. Owner told us the story of the place.

Yelp
Monday April 14, 2025 Last time, here was back in 2017!! It's nice to visit here again. We came here at 12:00pm lunch time. Plus, I needed to buy new shirts from here. We ordered the Chicken Cutlet and in a short while the food came out to our table. The service was fast and friendly. Plus, the owner came to check on us, nice choice of new shirt and talk story a little while. The ambiance is casual, comfortable inside and outside as well. We will be back again for breakfast, lunch and dinner while we are here. Or cook at my friends house the other times. Always support local no matter what island that you happen to visit.

Yelp
We came here for breakfast during our time on this island. The staff are very friendly and the place is homy, with various locals here to chat for their morning coffee. The news was playing in the background as everyone had their opinions on current events. We ordered a pancake and side of eggs, and also the breakfast platter with portuguese sausage and a hash brown. The pancake was the star of the breakfast because it was huge, fluffy and crispy at the same time. The eggs were standard but the hash browns were very oily. The papaya was fine, but not too sweet so I probably wouldn't order it again. You order and pay before you sit down - cash only. They bring your food to you and also bus your table afterwards. This is a no frills place with pretty good breakfast overall.

Yelp
Our cab driver recommended Blue Ginger for lunch while spending the day in Lanai City. Food was quintessential Hawaiian umami. We had mahi burgers and our vegetarian had a veggie stir fry. The place was quiet and clean. Guy taking orders was helpful. Tables inside and out to choose from. Recommend this place if on Lanai.

Yelp
What an amazing breakfast spot and super friendly staff. Such a cool hometown spot, makes me want to move from Oahu and stay here forever!!

Yelp
Yum! We found blue ginger cafe through Yelp and it did not disappoint! $15 for the big breakfast included fried rice, eggs, bacon, toast and two pancakes. The big breakfast was enough for two people in my option or one very hungry person! Everything was cooked to order and delicious. I especially liked the fried rice offered for breakfast (or you can get white rice or hashbrowns). Plenty of seating inside. Street parking b is available. Derive was friendly and our food came out quickly. A definite breakfast stop if you are in the area.

Yelp
Food is good! Workers helpful! Nice little take out place with tables inside if you want to eat in!

Yelp
Blue Ginger came recommended by my cousin when searching for places to eat while on Lāna'i. Unfortunately, they close early in the afternoon so we never had an opportunity to swing by as we usually finish our round at around 1. As it was super windy on Friday, my Dad and I decided to skip golf and head into town to see what it was like during the day. We were warmly greeted by the staff and owner. The shuttle driver mentioned they baked their own bread so we already knew we'd be ordering a sandwich. Asked for a recommendation and the dry saimin was suggested. While I was a bit skeptical (as we had the dry saimin at Sato last trip) I decided to just go with it. The pastrami sandwich was good and the bread even better. Only complaint was with the fact that the fries weren't seasoned before serving. The dry saimin was fantastic! Perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of fish cake and spam!! I do wish they extended their hours of operation so that we could head here for either lunch after a round of golf or for dinner. Their burgers looked fantastic as well and would order that the next trip out.

Yelp
Super friendly staff. An assortment of local food. Serves breakfast & Lunch. Don't forget to bring cash as it's Cash/check only. Small mom and pop restaurant. A definite must when visiting the island.

Yelp
Small local place that's apparently been in operation for many years. Only open for lunch right now. Handful of tables inside and a handful of tables outside. Not a lot of options on the island. Order at a counter, staff was very efficient. Food was fine. Not spectacular. Fries were underdone and under seasoned. But bacon and egg sandwich was tasty. Katsu chicken was covered in a sweet and sour sauce that was a bit cloying. Egg salad very over salted. Mac salad was decent.

Yelp
Must stop in Lanai! Absolutely delicious Lanai omelette, can't go wrong with unlimited coffee. Perfect to stop after shopping or before a movie at the theater. Or both! Owner is friendly, attentive, welcoming to his little corner of the world.

Yelp
We had the breakfast and it was a great choice. Good prices and a lot of food. The service was especially friendly and helpful. I had the bento breakfast and wasn't hungry the rest of the day!

Sarah V.

Yelp
Food wasn't anything to write home about -- but with limited options no real complaints. The staff was friendly, and service was prompt. Prices are decent for being on an island. Plenty of pescatarian/vegetarian/vegan options- a great bakery.

Yelp
Interesting little house with a big tree hanging fruits at the front. The food was ok, reasonably priced. They also have bakery treats.

Yelp
A favorite place to stop by ever since I first went in 2018, I recently got their signature Lāna'i Omelette, and it blew me away with how savory and delicious it was. I also tried their pastries and coffee which were just as good. The blue ginger at the cafe makes for great ambiance, and the workers are all friendly and kind. - Miguel Morales Photography

Yelp
12/3/2022: Blue Ginger Cafe--I ordered corned beef with rice, egg, and toast~YUMMY! Also, I purchased a blueberry and apple turnover which were awesomely delectable as well as their coffee was deeply robust. If, I ever return to Lanai, I'll make a point returning to Blue Cafe!

Eddie P.

Yelp
Try the Loco Moco!! One of the best I've ever had. Save room for a home baked pastry!

Yelp
Great breakfast, super fast service. The turnovers are the best pastries I've ever had!!! Apple and blueberry, I could eat them all!

Yelp
Make a stop there at least once during every trip, about 4+ times a year. Easy for hunters cuz we can eat outside. Also got a small bathroom to use and wash hands. Go to is either the chicken cutlet or club sandwich. This time, the club. Only thing I'd change is to not cut the lettuce into small pieces cuz they fall everywhere. But nice amount of turkey, ham and bacon. Bread is soft and flaky. Big enough for 2 meals for me. Their fries are always good, just gotta add salt. Hubs got the katsu, which is the cutlet without the gravy. Choke chicken. He pounded it all. They are also always friendly and helpful. Everything in disposables since Covid, but rubbish can around the corner makes it easy. Choke birds is gross, but I guess they know the bread is ono.

Abe L.

Yelp
Cash only- hardworking staff happy to make lunch bentos to take up the the hale on a hike or down to hulopoe or wherever you're headed for the day. All baking in-house and friendly service. Thanks Phoenix! Also just the right burger after a long morning of paddling. ps - perfect chilled half papaya is $3 and always so good! a steal!

Yelp
Super local spot to stop. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. For being so isolated on Lanai'i, the prices were fair. The omelet was full of stuff inside and cooked perfect. They have fresh baked pastries that looked amazing, although we did not get any. They have inside and outside seating. Plenty of street parking. Doesn't look like much outside but super yummy ~ don't let the look fool you.

Yelp
Aloha !!! Next time you drop into Lanai Island and you're looking for a great spot to grab some lunch, swing into Blue Ginger Cafe. Tasty food. I ordered the sautéed Mahi Mahi which was absolutely amazing. Simply delicious. The fish was incredibly fresh and it paired perfectly with the steamed vegetables and rice!!! I also ordered a can of their Hawaiian Juice which was refreshing. My wife had the Grilled Cheese sandwich with French Fries. Fries were delicious. Also very good. The staff was super friendly and I even had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Phoenix. Place your order at the counter and grab a seat at their tables out front. Service was excellent. Old school vibe and super fresh homemade food. On your way out the door, grab a bag of some of their delicious " in house " pastries. Thank you Phoenix and your friendly staff for the awesome food. Mahalo.

Yelp
Strolled into town in search of a hearty breakfast after an early morning hike. Stepped inside Blue Ginger to place an order and when I saw Corn Beef Hash on the menu, sold. We found a table outside to wait for our order and staff delivered to our table. This plate was filling; they don't skimp. Corn beef hash, 2 eggs, scoop of rice & toast. I couldn't finish it, but mission accomplished finding a hearty breakfast.

Yelp
Great food! Great service with fantastic atmosphere right off the park. Ample seating inside and outside. Friendly staff and friendly locals. Wish I could visit every year!

Yelp
Best restaurant in Lana'i! Fresh baked bread, home cooked comfort food. Atmosphere is welcoming and staff friendly!

Yelp
Being on Lanai has been relaxing. Everything here is easier going and pleasant. Finding a place to eat can be challenging depending on the day of the week and time of day. Blue Ginger has been open just about every time we were hungry. All of their food has been delicious! The service has been welcoming. If you're in need of a quick bite for breakfast, I can definitely recommend the Bacon, Egg and cheese sandwich. Kind of like a BLT minus the Tomato plus the cheese. Hope you get a chance to enjoy this mom & pops eatery.
google avatar

Ross T.

Yelp
Located in the center of town is a local favorite for breakfast, they carry everything from plate lunches, homemade pastries, and a lot of local favorites. The fried saimin was very good with lots of added vegetables and meats! The apple turnover was light and crispy with just enough filling and not overly sweet. Located across Dole park you will find a lot of parking, they have a lots of other business on the same block so you can walk the town and visit a market, gift shop, pharmacy, coffee shop, mom and pop grocery & fishing store. This is how it used to be in old Hawaii, if you like to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of how it used to be Lanai is a must see destination. Sorry no drive thru fast food restaurants here only original mom & pop business!

Yelp
Lookin' for a place to eat on Lanai can be difficult, as there are limited restaurants due to the small population of folks on Lanai. Last week while I was working on Lanai, when lunch rolled around I took out my trusty phone to Yelp out a food joint. Upon scanning the Yelp app. I came across this food business called - "Blue Ginger Cafe". After reading a few of Yelp buddies - Nat N., Leah E., Bridgett P., Denalee C., Angela C., & Kelly W.'s awesome reviews about the Blue Ginger Cafe, I decided to go chance 'em! Located in the heart of Lanai City, you can find the Blue Ginger Cafe right across the street from the Dole Park. The menu here appears to be local style comfort food, but they also featured fresh baked pastries, as well as burgers & sandwiches. During the Covid-19 pandemic, they did allow "inside dining", but of course since the restaurant is small, there is a limited person capacity. If you're not comfortable eating "inside" of the restaurant, they did have covered "outside dining" too, as there were several tables & chairs in front of the restaurant. As I walked into the restaurant, there was a wall menu posted, but after looking at Yelp, I already knew what I came here for.............da Honey Dipped Frrrrrrried Chicken plate!!!! Yum!!!! How it works - 1. If you come here to dine, it's CASH or CHECKS ONLY!!!! But the bottom line is CASH is KING Baby! No moolah, no eat! 2. As you walk into the Cafe, you check out the wall menu, then place your food order at the counter, make your payment, then when your food is ready, someone will deliver your food to your table. 3. If you don't want to dine at the restaurant, they do offer "take out", as I saw some folks who probably placed a phone order, drove up to the restaurant, walked in & picked up their food and walked out. What can I say about the Honey Dipped Fried Chicken plate???? The Honey Dipped Fried Chicken was OUTSTANDING!!!! My plate came with (4) pieces of Honey Dipped Fried Chicken fried to perfection! The freshly fried chicken had a nice texture, and it appears they dipped the chicken in a honey based sauce, as the fried chicken crust was slightly "wet". The Honey Dipped Fried Chicken had a savory & sweet taste, as you got the best of both worlds! The plate came with a scoop of white rice, & you had a choice between a mac salad, or garden salad. I went with the garden. Overall, a wonderful lunch!!! Now I'm tryin' to figure out which place has the best Honey Dipped Fried Chicken, as another business on Molokai also made a wonderful Honey Dipped Fried Chicken............ Perhaps I'll have to go back to both of these places again, to reconfirm my Honey Dipped Fried Chicken findings????? :D

Yelp
Came to Lana'i from Maui for the day and stopped here for lunch. I saw some reviews cautioning that it takes a long time, but within a few minutes of ordering I had my food brought out. I got the chicken katsu plate and was very impressed with the quality and flavors. The sauce was great and the chicken was very fresh and crispy, plus the mac salad was delicious. I would recommend to anyone visiting Lanai City for a tasty, reasonably priced lunch!

Yelp
Recommended by Issac, our shuttle driver, who eats there regularly himself. The Blue Ginger is a small family owned diner in the middle of Lanai City. We ordered 3 cheeseburgers, large cheese fries, Chicken Katsu, grilled Mahi, and the Mahi Mahi stir-fry. The burgers were a BIG HIT but so was everything else (especially the Katsu). The owner came out to say hello, really nice guy.

Yelp
CASH ONLY NO FRILLS LOCAL FOOD. Bread is made in house and the food is 'ono!! House made pastries were displayed on the counter. There are other options along Dole Square but this one came HIGHLY recommended by our tour guide (probably owned by a family member). We ordered mahi burgers with fries ($13), a mixed plate (chicken, shrimp, potsticker, eggs with fish cake, spam, rice) and I had the teriyaki cheeseburger with fries ($12). Everything was SO 'ono and flavorful. Lunch specials of the day included spaghetti, shrimp scampi, pastrami sandwich, chop steak, mahi stirfry, grilled pork chops, club sandwich. Something for everyone. We sat inside and ate every last bite. And we used their public restroom before we headed out on our island tour and saw where they bake their homemade bread.

Yelp
Fire very tasty! Stop here for amazing food if your on island... service was great owner is super friendly. Very local vibes and quiet and relaxing atmosphere. I would eat here every say of vacation if i could lol

Tess Z.

Yelp
Mom and pop's outdated diner. Ordering was slightly confusing, but the portions made up for it. Loved the fried rice just the perfect seasoning.

Randy S.

Yelp
The order taker had such an attitude and we thought he was kidding but his sharpness took us by surprise. Fire him as he isn't going to help with those of us who visit occasionally from Maui- his insulting attitude is not appropriate for any public facing job especially in a restaurant . Also a huge negative is that they only take cash. That requires a run to Bank of Hawaii. Unfortunately they are like to only game in town for breakfast or lunch and yet in the future I'd go to the market and take my food home or to my car. That is how awful it made us (group of 4) feel.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to start your day on Lanai. Blue Ginger is currently opened for breakfast and lunch and we stopped in for both meals on our trip. I enjoyed their breakfast burrito which came filled with meat and eggs with a side of fried rice. I also tried their bay shrimp omelet and I added Portuguese sausage. That was my fave. They bake their own bread and have a bunch of different pastries to take on your daily excursion while on the island. Stop by and grab a bite!
google avatar

Catherine R.

Yelp
It was great food and we were hungry. Pretty much the only game in town. But good. You order and they bring it out to you.
google avatar

Daryl H.

Yelp
Everything we order here is just ono! This has been our go to take out spot every year on Lana'i.
google avatar

Violet H.

Yelp
Good food here, serious sized portions. I've not found breakfast to be remarkable, taste-wise, but you will be stuffed to the gills and likely won't be hungry for some time. They really shine at lunch, dinner, and through their baked goods, made onsite. I had one of the best french dip sandwiches here. There is indoor and outdoor seating (in a lovely leafy setting, just have to battle flies). There's a restroom in the back, but it does involve tackling a few steps. There's also a step into the restaurant. Cash only! No dough - walk about a block up the street to the bank's ATM.
google avatar

Leen D.

Yelp
Day trip. Great place to eat. Bakery is good, had blueberry turnover and cinnamon roll. Also, had the saimin noodles and a big breakfast. Friendly staff. Right across the park.
google avatar

Marina R.

Yelp
Best burger I've ever had! Coming from NY, I did not think any of the food I would be having in Hawaii would blow me away. But this burger was AMAZING. We came back a second time before leaving to have it again and it was just as good. Lots of locals here and a spot you have to go to while in Lanai. This restaurants beats a lot of the fancy restaurants at the resorts in Lanai. The double bacon cheeseburger is huge, if ordering that you can probably share with another person.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
This place is great. Had the loco moco with fried rice and my wife had the Lanai omelet. Ample portions and the fried rice was the BEST!! Go here !!
google avatar

Sheri M.

Yelp
Cute local place with a wide menu selection. Went here 2 days in a row, had the loco moco and breakfast plate, both were delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Come here for breakfast if you're visiting Lanai! Very old school type diner with some Filipino flavor.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Food is great but note they only take cash. Lanai is one of my favorite places to go!
google avatar

Yelp
There aren't many restaurant options in Lanai, so we ended up here. The service was pretty weird - the lady at the register didn't crack a smile once and seemed tired of answering any questions we had about the menu. However, the food was great. I ordered one of their daily specials that had samples of a lot of different things - shrimp tempura, fried chicken, pork, an omelette, and rice. The portion was also massive so it was good value. Keep in mind that they are cash only though!
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
The cheese danish is the best I've ever had, the burgers are massive and great, the homemade bun was top notch. This is a must stop place
google avatar

Jonathan C.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! I swear my kids have never eaten this well before! The people working at blue ginger are very friendly and helpful. I got a breakfast burrito and it was very tasty and made sure to try both of my kids foods (chicken nuggets and a cheeseburger) and all were delicious!!! Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Great food and prices. Service was really nice and fast. Bring cash as they only accept cash or check. Ample seating. I had the club sandwich and it was delicious.

Yelp
As a tourist on Lanai, dining options are extremely limited. We stayed at Sensei Lanai, where there is only 1 restaurant (Nobu) available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Luckily, Lanai Town is a short 15-20 minute stroll down the hill. From the moment we landed in Lanai, we heard about Blue Ginger from our driver. It's a local favorite for breakfast and lunch. When you get tired of the fancy resort life, Blue Ginger is the go-to place on Lanai. We went for breakfast and wanted to try as many things as we could. The Breakfast Bento Plate comes with pretty much all the breakfast meats + chicken. The Big Breakfast comes with 1 choice of meat plus pancakes. The one thing that was special here is the fried chicken. I wish I had just gotten a huge plate of only fried chicken. The breading was crispy and tasty, and the meat inside so moist and tender. Idk how they do it, but it's way better than Popeye's, Jollibee's, Zippy's, anywhere else! They're also known for their pastries, and we couldn't resist getting the ensemada, which was the size of my face. Buttery, soft, not too sweet. It was an amazing afternoon snack later in the day. Overall, our Lanai trip was just okay, and I probably wouldn't come back to visit. But in the event that I do find myself back on this island, I'll be sure to make a stop or two at Blue Ginger, just for the fried chicken!
