Blue Ginger – One of the Best in Whitianga Blue Ginger is truly one of the best restaurants in Whitianga. It’s simple yet full of charm, with a relaxed and romantic atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. The owner is an amazing woman — kind, beautiful, always smiling, and clearly very experienced. You can feel her creativity, elegance, and strong personality reflected in both the food and the place itself. Her team is equally wonderful — happy, friendly, and always smiling — which creates a really positive energy throughout the restaurant. We’ve eaten here several times, and it has never disappointed us. Every dish is perfectly prepared, served quickly, and full of flavor. The owner truly cares about her guests and makes sure everyone feels welcome and relaxed. You can taste the passion and serenity she puts into her cooking and into every detail of the restaurant. If you’re in Whitianga, don’t miss Blue Ginger — it’s a beautiful mix of great food, warm people, and genuine atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Blue Ginger is an outstanding restaurant with delicious Asian fusion cuisine. It was recommended to us by Jane, our boat tour guide, as one of her absolute favorite restaurants – and now we completely understand why. We arrived a little late, just before closing after the lunch service, but despite the timing we were welcomed and served with such genuine warmth and friendliness. The food itself was simply fantastic – fresh, flavorful, beautifully prepared, and absolutely delicious. And the service goes far beyond just great dining. In the rush, I accidentally left behind my sun hat – my favorite souvenir from our New Zealand trip. The Blue Ginger team has been incredibly kind and helpful and is even arranging to send it all the way to Switzerland. What else can I say except: amazing country, amazing people, amazing food. Thank you for everything, we will never forget this experience!

Delicious food in Whitigana! Highly recommend stopping here for dinner, everything on the menu looks so good and we really enjoyed our meal here.

What a fabulous meal, incredible flavours and, more importantly, amazing staff! Everyone was so friendly and helpful with their suggestions, which made the experience even better. Thoroughly recommend the Sri Lankan Curry and the Bao Buns, absolutely delicious. A word of warning though… the portions are BIG! Well done to everyone at Blue Ginger, a must-visit if you’re staying in Whitianga.

The food and service are fantastic! We loved Buddha bowl with tofu and Krapaw Chicken.

I’m honestly not sure how to fairly rate this restaurant. My husband got the noodle bowl and I got the OG Karaage Chicken. Both were very good and the staff there were very kind and helpful. When we first arrived I let the staff know that I have a shellfish allergy and asked what I could have. They explained that they use oyster sauce on some things as well as another sauce which contains fish sauce on everything else, including the vegetarian dishes. The only thing safe was the karaage chicken. That was fine and so that’s what I ordered. I hate inconveniencing a restaurant with this super annoying allergy. But, it is what it is. They were kind enough to even prepare it away from their other dishes for my safety. I really do appreciate that and the dish was really delicious. My concern with the whole thing is that I also practice eating strictly vegetarian sometimes. A lot, actually. So, they’re using non-vegetarian sauces on dishes and calling them vegetarian. People should know this and I felt the need to share this. In Thailand we used a mushroom sauce in our vegetarian cooking class. It would be nice if they considered switching to that.

I arrived quite late in the night and was politely informed they were no longer taking orders as it was quite busy. I replied that I was quite happy with a simple dish, a few words later I was offered a number of options and selected a belly pork dish. Thank you for an excellent meal and friendly service at a quite busy time - it was appreciated.

We have been coming to Blue Ginger for over 10 years every time we are down & it is sensational. The food really is special. Asian fusion done to a standard that rivals some of the best in major cities. A fixture of Whitianga and of our repertoire. Well done team & excited to bring family from overseas when they come down with us this coming Christmas. ♥️

Blue ginger is a place we will be coming back to. The service was prompt and engaging. The food was phenomenal-fresh, good tasting and culture appropriate.

I often read reviews but rarely write them, this place was more than worthy. We are staying in Hahei and it was worth the 40 minute drive. Every course left us more and more impressed. We started with the prawn and pork dumplings, a dozen extremely fresh oysters, and ended Bibimbap. Very friendly staff and quick order at the counter service.

A cute little Thai place. Nice atmosphere, order st the counter, and food comes fairly quickly. The prawn and pork dumplings were phenomenal. "The best dumplings I've ever had" according to my bf. My pad Thai was just okay, nothing special. My bf got duck curry. There wasn't much duck, but he claims the flavor was fantastic.

We ordered from the vegan menu here. It was absolutely delicious. Very few places offered us the vegan menu as they did. Must try out place if you love Asian food.

This place left me floored, in a good way. Now tell me who would expect that some of the best asian fusion I have ever had would be in Whitianga? Not me for sure. This place is pretty small for all of the greatness that is has to offer. It has a very earthy, organic feel to it. The menu is not very big, but yet it has something for every taste. We had the dumplings which came in a nice broth for a starter, and we shared the Kapow Chicken and the Sizzling Seafood. The Kapow chicken was outstanding - it is fried chicken rice bowl, but the chicken was crunchy yet juicy on the inside and not greasy. The suzzling seafood was great as well, it did not skimp on actual seafood as many other places do. The cook (whom I think is also the owner) was very accommodating when it came to my allergies so big thumbs up from me for that. One possible down side: no alcohol, so make sure you like the person you are dining with!
