"Does Blue – Inn on the Beach live up to its name?To find a hotel that qualifies as more "beachfront" than Plum Island's charming Blue Inn, you'd probably have to be in the water. Located on a quiet end of the beach, the hotel has Ocean View suites that open directly onto the dunes. Who else will be there?Despite its extraordinary location, the Blue Inn manages to avoid throngs of tourists. You're more likely to encounter native New Englanders on a staycation here than rowdy out-of-towners. Given the choice, where should we be staying here? While it might set you back a bit more, go ahead and book an oceanfront suite—watching the sun rise over the water from the comfort of your bed will be worth every penny. The decor is refreshing, coastal-feeling, modern, and, well, mostly blue. What are the highlights of the rooms? Most rooms come with private decks, or balconies and fireplaces. Not that you'll be in your room much; the inn has a beachside hot tub, where all the action goes down; never mind the beach itself. Wifi is fast and free. We might not be in our room much, but say we're craving a night in—what are our dining options? The property has only 13 guest rooms and a handful of cottages, so staff is able to offer each guest undivided attention, whether it's delivering breakfast to your room—croissants, coffee, overnight oats, and fruit in an adorable lobster trap—or making tips about where to grab dinner in town. We're road-tripping from Boston. Where do we leave the car? Each room comes with a dedicated parking spot—a crucial perk in an area where parking can be tricky. Bottom line: worth it, and why? This painfully cute seaside inn makes a compelling case for turning your day trip to Newburyport into an overnight. That way, you can stay late at dinner in town and not worry about hauling back to the city—and when you wake up, you'll most likely have the entire beach to yourself." - Todd Plummer

...our pause on PLUM ISLAND was delightful in every way possible. |The BLUE INN on the BEACH is a hidden gem on the North Shore of Massachusetts...|We felt welcome and appreciated the moment we arrived.||We completely loved the beautiful king suite on the upper deck - with beautiful views and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean on our large semi private deck. The living quarters were well appointed with a contemporary beachy vibe - VERY LARK LIKE - which I love... ||We received a most delicious breakfast basket and pot of hot coffee delivered each morning outside our door. The basket was filled with fresh, artisan crafted breakfast food offerings which were outstanding. This offering was so convenient and appreciated - I love that we were able to eat on our deck as the sun rose; listening to the waves. A most peaceful and beautiful way to begin each morning...||I highly recommend visiting the North Shore of Massachusetts - it is an amazing destination - Newburyport is a foodie haven - with abundant offerings of restaurants - and many options; not just seafood... We fell in love with Plum Island so clean and so beautiful. We absolutely loved the SUNSET CLUB recommended by the General Manager of BLUE - we enjoyed delicious food and yummy libations, amazing service and the best experience of the sunset...||Next time - we will take the complimentary bikes out to discover the island. We will also enjoy a fire on the beach and soak in one of the two hot tubs on property. If you are beach person and shell enthusiast the BLUE mussel shells are abundant and beautiful on this pristine and long beach...||I will be coming back here soon - next time we will stay in one of the larger spaces like the LARK or BLUE SUITE - they look amazing in every way possible...||Our pause on Plum Island at BLUE - Inn on the Beach was an special experience for my husband and myself -- a most amazing way to celebrate our very special anniversary.

Loved Blue! Went for a three generation long weekend, and it worked for everyone. The ocean-view queen was right on the beach, the ocean-view king was on the second floor with a gorgeous view of the ocean, and the two-bedroom cottage was across the lane. Beautiful beach, lovely hand-delivered breakfast baskets, good housekeeping service. We're hoping to make this an annual tradition!

The Blue Inn is simply the most amazing getaway ever for me personally!|I have stayed approximately eight different times. Each time has been perfect, and I have experienced deep relaxation and peace while visiting. If you are looking for a getaway spot where you can find serenity, gorgeous views and privacy, this is the place for you. The staff are welcoming and professional. The rooms are impeccably clean and the sunrises and the sunsets are something you will never regret witnessing :) The outdoors hot tub is an awesome addition as is on the new bar serving alcoholic/non alcoholic drinks !

The rooms are amazing and the staff are so helpful. The decor is beautiful. You can walk on the beach for miles. If you just want to get away but have close access to a great town like Newburyport, you’ll love it. Shoulder season probably the best time to go.

Google
What a pleasant stay we had at the Blue Inn! The location is amazing and the beach is beautiful and relaxing. This is the second time staying at the Blue Inn and both times the service was always very professional, kind and courteous. ||It is nice knowing the staff is always available if in need… and communicating through the new web chat couldn’t be easier. Great all around service.||Worth every penny and will definitely be going back again.

Google
Absolutely amazing getaway! Blue is the perfect New England Inn but elevated :). The room is updated and cozy with an electric fireplace. The Adirondack chairs were great for watching the sunrise and just relaxing. There is a hot tub facing the ocean and plenty of lounge chairs on your private beach area. The service is impeccable! The Parker Reserve is right next door if you love nature and Newburyport is a 5 minute ride over the bridge. Highly recommend for a relaxing, laid back getaway.

The communication from start to finish was incredible. I love the quaint atmosphere of plum island and the rooms at Blue Inn are romantic and well appointed. I got excited every morning to get our breakfast basket delivered warm and right at our door. The sunrises are just perfect from our balcony and being so cold we had a fire going every night which added to the ambiance. The staff were super welcoming and even had fresh baked cookies on arrival. Just such a memorable time away. We can’t wait to go back

My daughter and i were there on a Monday and Tuesday night celebrating her 40th birthday and couldn’t have picked a better place! We brought her little dog with us and I don’t know who enjoyed the beach more, George the dog, or us. George became quite popular!! Our little cabin was so comfortable with all the comforts you needed. It was clean, beds were very comfortable as were the pillows… and no shortage. The only challenge was open restaurants on those nights. Not a big deal. They will be in full summer swing soon enough! Night 1 we decided on crackers and cheese that we picked up at the island store. Night 2 we went to Bobs Lobster for some seafood and it was delicious. They do close at 7:00 so we just made it. It all worked just fine for us. The staff at blue were so nice, and always willing to help with anything. It has a laid back vibe that was so relaxing. We had a really fun day in the town of Newburyport shopping, eating and of course ice cream. It is so dog friendly and everyone is so nice. It was so refreshing! Next time we are going to take in some other activities such as boat tours etc. I could have stayed longer without being bored. I highly recommend Blue Inn and all its surroundings. If you go, tell them George sent you 😉!! See you again Blue Inn!!

Yelp
We just celebrated our wedding anniversary at Blue and it was absolutely wonderful! The room was gorgeous, spacious, clean and comfortable. The view was incredible and the staff were attentive and lovely. Having breakfast and coffee delivered to the door each morning was so, so nice! The beach is pretty but we didn't go in the water because it was too chilly. It was fun to sit on the deck with our coffee and watch the surfers and dogs play! If you're looking for a romantic, gorgeous beach getaway, we highly recommend Blue on the beach!!

Yelp
We stayed here this spring. Had a relationship that had broken off and we're working on reconnecting. Not important I guess but the location, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere were incredibly peaceful and romantic and just what we needed just when we needed it. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
BEWARE. Blue Inn On the Beach? More like Last Minute Screw-You on the Beach. These jerks just called us and are cancelling our King Ocean Room TWO days before our reservation. For $985 a night because "an AC is broken." They can't get it fixed in two days? Sounds like someone double-booked a room. Complete amateur operation and a complete joke for over $1000 a night. No solutions offered from them and didn't sound apologetic at all. Super shady. Anniversary plans ruined, just like that. We are on the road now have nowhere to stay.Beware - this could happen to you. I don't care how nice the hipster breakfast basket is. This is completely unacceptable.

Yelp
Review of Ocean Cottage 22 The location is outstanding and the Ocean Cottage has its own beachfront space that is separate from the main building. You also get your own propane fire pit. There is a full kitchen, with stove/oven and dishwasher, which is not noted in the listing. With that being said, the luxury promised on Blue's website is not there. The photos of Ocean Cottage and the actual condition seem to be very different than what's represented. It's dingy, in need of maintenance and basic repairs. The bed, specifically the mattress and linens were something you'd find in a roadside motel, not a luxury resort. The mattress seemed to have a rubber liner on it that crinkled with every move. Additionally, the living room/lounge areas were sparse with furniture and the couch that was there was dirty, ripped and stained (see photos attached). Definitely not worth the high price tag of a nights stay. I can't speak for the main building or other cottages, but the accommodations in terms of luxury were far below what is promised online for the Ocean Cottage. Very disappointing. The staff was friendly and quick to respond. They always wore masks and check in/check out was contactless. You're definitely paying for location, which does have stunning ocean views and accessibility, but don't expect luxury or comfort at the Ocean Cottage at Blue Inn. Prepare to be disappointed.

Yelp
If I could give them 10 stars I would! We are traveling the East Coast from California and we are beyond thrilled that we found this place. We are staying in a King Cottage, perfect amount of space and can hear the waves crashing outside of our window! The staff is absolutely fabulous. They are the best. We arrived past closing time of the office, they made our contactless check in very smooth by providing us thorough directions via text message. They drop off hot coffee and breakfast every morning to your door. We even asked them to borrow a blender to make smoothies as a joke and they were able to accommodate us! I am currently enjoying a fresh blended smoothie that I made in the cottage. Thank you to everyone who made this stay so amazing! I hope to come back here some day.

Yelp
WOW! wow wow wow. I had REALLY high hopes for this stay. My wife and I are VALUED lark club members and have been staying with the company for almost a half a decade. We booked this suite through the VERY confusing and unintuitive website after seeing the beautiful and likely doctored pictures they post. We reserved a room for a long weekend, hoping to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beach/amenities of blue. Check in, left something to be desired after waiting for 10 minutes to speak with a less than hospitable employee. The cookies on the counter were hard as a rock. For almost 700$ a night, I expect the best quality of service and accommodation. That was not what i received. Upon entering our room, there was evidently a lack of upkeep not only in our suite, but throughout the entire property. I stepped in a shard of glass in the sand which is now infected, I expect more from a "private beach." The wifi throughout was on and off, and there was a rowdy group in the room next to us, leaving the nighttime vibe unpleasant and frankly unsettling. We will NEVER return to Blue or ANY other lark hotel. Don't waste your time or money here. You'll have better luck in a hampton inn, or sharing a bench with a stranger.

Yelp
My husband and I just returned. From 2 nights in The cottage at Blue . We were so disappointed!! We stayed in cottage18 . As we turned the key in The lock we looked down to see 10 inches of wood Rot on both sides of the door. Inside the bathroom The floor grate was so rusted a little spray paint would have fixed the problem . There was a screen Door leading to a small deck and the screen was Hanging half way down the door. The staff also forgot to service our room. I never expected the Cottage to be on such disrepair for the amount of Money they charge!! When we checked out I explained the issues to the desk clerk and the Only response was I'll tell my manager if this is considered a Lark hotel it surely missed the Mark I will not be able to recommend this hotel And wish I had my money back!!! so unfortunate

Yelp
The location is excellent and the room was very clean when we arrived. We paid over $500 a night for our Queen bed ocean view room. "Breakfast " is delivered in a basket at 8 AM with a carafe of coffee. When we arrived we asked for decaf coffee and since my husband does not drink coffee, orange juice also. In the morning, the coffee was regular and there was no orange juice. I called the desk and both were brought up. Breakfast was a sweet apple tart and 2 good deviled eggs. The bed was comfortable but the walls are terrible thin and we could hear conversations and bathroom use in other rooms. We left to explore the first day and were gone from 11 - 2:30 and left the sign on the door for room service. When we returned, our room had not been cleaned. When I went to the front desk, he said the staff did not show up but he would freshen our room a bit. Another night with thin walls and in the morning, by 8:30 no breakfast had arrived. When I asked, he again said his co-worker had not shown up. "Breakfast" arrived at 8:45. A very cold, dry tasteless egg and broccolli omelet (no salt or pepper to save it) , cold, raw oatmeal muesli ? and a muffin which neither of us could tell if it was blueberry or chocolate chip. Definitely not worth the price, very poor service. If you want to visit Plum Island National Wildlife Refuge, you can stay somewhere else, pay $5 to enter the park (or free with a National Park pass) and have access to the beach through the refuge. We had our meals in Newburyport, (10 minute drive) since there were no good choices on Plum Island itself

Deidra B.

Yelp
This gorgeous place was just what we needed. Outstanding service and ohhhh the views!!!! Get up early to watch that fabulous sunrise. The room is light airy and beautiful. The bed is extremely comfortable the fridge and microwave are much appreciated. The distance to town is a short drive. The breakfast baskets are promptly at the door at 8am and they were plentiful. 2 things I think are important. We have a room above us and you can hear people walking around quite a bit. So bring earplugs if this might bother you. Also the patio is kind of a neutral territory so people were walking right by our patio door for beach access. We did ask for someone to secure it a bit and they did. We would stay here again for sure and absolutely loved this place!

Rick H.

Yelp
We recently stayed at the blue for my girlfriends birthday. We love this place. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are beautiful and the views of the ocean will not disappoint. Can't wait till we book our next trip their.

Bonnie K.

Yelp
I would give this 3.5 stars, as 3 would be too low!! This was a quick and short getaway from the city and I love the Plum Island area. I stayed in one of the quaint cottages. The breakfast basket was yummy. Definitely four stars for the staff. It was easy to make the reservation over the phone. The front desk staff were great at check in and check out. I was slightly disappointed, as the online photos made it appear more upscale, which is why I gave this three stars instead of four. The cottage had ants in the kitchen and the shower stall had a couple of hair balls.

Lauren D.

Yelp
This hotel is phenomenal. My husband and I have traveled here for my birthday at the end of April twice. We recently returned from a Blue getaway over the weekend. The hotel is located right on the beach, therefore we leave our door open as we listen to the sounds of the ocean. It is a peaceful experience and "good for the soul." The hotel rooms are modern and tastefully decorated in white and Blue with beautiful artwork on the walls. We opened our front door to homemade breakfast each morning. We asked for the recipe for the overnight oats, which taste great, and are healthy. The staff was accommodating. It was clear to me that the woman we spoke with shares in our love for Blue. After the stay over the weekend, we are now back at work, revived.

Dayle S.

Yelp
Really nice place...lovely condition! Looking for a break...are you open Sunday Dec 19 for 3/4 nights...two 60s?

Annie C.

Yelp
Perfection! Quiet and romantic spot right on the beach! Staff was exceptional- always attentive, willing to help and you could feel they were genuinely happy to work here and cater to their guests. Room was immaculate- IMMACULATE! Watching sunrise from the luxury of your bed and then going outside on the deck to watch it was everything to us! Breakfast bags were thoughtful and creative. Loved every second we were here! Cannot wait to return- this has already become one of our top favorites!

Yelp
I booked Blue the morning of our stay. It was a last minute decision based on a great 2 day forecast. I knew of this hotel from my cousin who stayed there several years ago and raved about it. While staying in Rockport last year, we visited the Plum Island refuge and did a drive by Blue as I knew little of Plum Island other than the severe beach erosion that threatened several beachfront structures. A drive by does not do it justice. While looking at available rooms for the night we wanted, I thought it seemed a little overpriced given it was off season. And I thought to myself, website photos really can make everything look better than reality....was the Lark suite really worth the stated price?? Should I just do the queen or king ocean view and save money? Well I'm here to say the Lark suite is BETTER than the hotel website photos and was worth every single penny we spent! From the perfect white and blue color scheme to the 3 walls of almost floor to ceiling windows to our perfect little breakfast basket delivered to our door by 8 AM, it was just a perfect getaway. When I called Hayley to check availability of the Lark suite, she actually asked if I wanted early Check in ?!?! Who asks that... ever ...without prompting? Kudos for that!! Ten minutes after getting into our fabulous room, an email arrives with a few tips and suggestions including local dining spots and a suggested NBPT Scavenger hunt! This is why boutique hotels excel and Lark and Blue know how to do it! The layout of this suite is not for everyone as the main bath is on the entry level and everything else is up a flight of stairs. No elevators at Blue. We enjoyed a sunset off our rear balcony and a spectacular sunrise from our large beachfront patio. If it was too cold, the expansive windows pretty much provide the exact view from your comfy king sized bed, a comfortable sofa, your two person circular upholstered lounge chair or the small dining table with views down the beach. We've stayed in many beachfront/ ocean front hotel rooms throughout the US and except for one in Monterey , we always wish there were screens on our slider or windows to listen to the surf. Blue has you covered! Well thought out details abound! We loved Blue and all of those little details. The weather was perfect which only enhanced our view and stay! We will definitely be back!

Biff B.

Yelp
Great get a way ! The location , staff and rooms are perfect for a quiet get away If they had one down fall , it was the ocean facing windows should be clean so you can see the view you're paying for lol I would go again but just some window cleaner with me next time

Sara N.

Yelp
My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary, and I am so glad that we did! The Inn is gorgeous, right on the beach & there are so many thoughtful touches throughout. It is a simply wonderful place to be with someone you love. Unfortunately, while we were here, my husband got food poisoning from a place up the road. That is a topic for a different review! But I do want to note that the staff at Blue were very kind, bringing us extra water and tea, giving us a later check out so that he could sleep. We will be back for other celebrations!

Kara W.

Yelp
Recently, I stayed at the Blue Inn for a long anticipated girls weekend. The location of this resort in unmatched with its Plum Island beachfront location. There are a few different buildings that make up the property and ours was the rental of the lower level of a house quaintly referred to as the "2 bedroom Queen Cottage". Upon entering the "cottage" we were met with an overpowering odor of mold/mildew. When a staff member from the hotel came over, he reported it was due to ongoing water damage from recent rainstorms. When we asked for a resolution to this issue, he provided us with a can of air freshener and offered to spray it for us... The following day, it rained and water began pouring into the entryway. We contacted the Inn staff and they brought over towels to sop up the water but stated there was nothing more they could do. The odor in the "cottage" worsened and the staff said they were unable to accommodate any change in rooms. The Inn boasts a long list of amenities such as multiple hot tubs and luxurious outdoor areas equipped with propane fueled fire pits. We found the hot tubs to be unclean and the fire pit inoperable. A staff member from the hotel attempted to light the fire pit with a pair of old pliers. After multiple attempts he stated he could not get the fire pit working but offered to leave the rusty pliers with us if we wanted to continue attempting to light it... Amenities are only amenities if they are operable! Lastly, upon check out, a staff member inquired about our satisfaction with our stay. When concerns were mentioned, we were offered a generous discount and a free upgrade at any Lark resort. Based on the location, we decided to give the Inn another try and went to book a stay for 2019. At this time we were told this offer would not be honored. I think this is a beautiful vacation spot with lots of potential but I caution others to adjust their expectations and only stay in the beachfront building...

Ian S.

Yelp
The nicest place I have ever stayed, hands down. The staff was amazing and the hotel itself was very clean, and cozy. If you enjoy waking up to the sound of the ocean in a very comfortable bed this is the place for you! A short trip to Newburyport, which is a perfect place to get a quick drink or dinner with the family. The beaches are clean and not crowded at all. Thank you to the staff for a great weekend

Ira H.

Yelp
OK. I've stalled in writing this review because I was afraid this place will become too popular. Our family of 4 had a great 3 night stay in one of the cottages at the end of August. We also stayed here 2 years ago. The hotel is right on the ocean in Plum Island. It is the only hotel on Plum Island and it abuts relatively isolated beach. It is about a 1 hour drive from Boston which makes it extremely convenient to get to unlike some Cape Cod vacation destinations... The hotel was recently renovated and taken over by the Lark Hotel group which specializes in small hotels like this. There is a very unique boxed breakfast delivered to your door each morning around 8:30. It includes fresh coffee, eggs, oatmeal and fruit which vary each day. Our cottage included a full size fridge, stove, microwave etc. The bathroom was clean. We looked at some other rooms which were beautiful as well. We had great customer service from all the employees. I'll call out Jay who was very responsive and helped with everything including surf tips. re: dinner, Newburyport is 10 minutes drive away with many restaurants and the Plum Island Grill which is pretty good is a 10 minute beautiful walk away. You can borrow Blue's bikes or bring your own for a nice bike ride out into the adjoining National Park nature preserve. We will definitely return to Blue next summer!

Yelp
My wife and I just spent a wonderful long weekend at Blue - Inn on the Beach. We wanted something relaxing, upscale, and within a 3 hour drive of our home in Connecticut. This place was perfect! Three elements contributed to our wonderful experience; the location, the amenities, and the staff. The location is wonderful. The hotel is situated right on the beach on Plum Island. Plum island is a modest beach community in a good way - mostly local residents who love the low key pace of things. The hotel beach never had more than several people set up in front of the hotel. We had an Ocean View King room which is on the second floor and has a semi-private balcony overlooking the beach and ocean. The ocean is about 100 feet from the balcony. There are beach lounge chairs set up directly in front of the hotel and folding beach chairs and umbrellas are available to take closer to the water. The amenities included bikes, a hot tub, parking, fire pits, and breakfast delivered to your door every morning. The rooms are well appointed with everything you'd need. The breakfast was fantastic! Every morning at 8am a small wooden box was delivered to your door, which included two baked eggs over greens, two fresh baked products, fresh fruit, oats, orange juice, and fresh coffee. I cannot tell you how enjoyable it was to carry this treasure box out on to the balcony every morning and enjoy the ocean view over breakfast! Despite a recent change in ownership and only being open for a few weeks, the staff was incredible. Shannon is the hotel manager and was really great at check-in and throughout our stay. Jay is the 'everything' guy... he walks the property throughout the day and will set up chairs on the beach for you, get you buckets of ice with bottles of water, and, most impressively, will sit down and have a nice conversation with you about the island, the property, surfing, etc. He worked for the previous owners and is a great resource for the hotel and the area. His recommendations for the fried clams at Bob Lobster was spot on! The rest of the staff are all friendly and have smiles on their faces. Overall, Blue exceeded our expectations. Admittedly, we had four perfect weather beach days - so Mother Nature may have tipped the scales in their favor! The hotel is upscale without pretentiousness. A few things that may bother some people... no restaurant/bar onsite, no pool, and no activities/water sports. These were not a problem for us. We were content to relax and soak up the sun on our balcony and on the beach. We kept our refrigerator filled with cold "beverages." We had great meals in several places minutes from the hotel. We will definitely be back!

Amuse B.

Yelp
What else can be said? Beautiful rooms right on the beach with the picnic breakfast and five-star hospitality. This is a total hidden gem!

Joanna F.

Yelp
One of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed in. My parents were paying the tab for the two bedroom cottage for a night after my brother's engagement extravaganza. My fiance and I had a comfy bed in a large room with a flat screen tv. The living area was amazing. All white, huge tv, lots of sitting room. Modern, clean kitchen, complete with Keurig and any appliance you would need for a week stay. I couldn't help but be pained to see the sweet patio and grill, considering it was November when I was here and there was no chance of us using it. The off season rate of $195 a night for four people is actually spectacular even though there's not a ton to do when it's not beach season. I assume it's ridiculously expensive during the summer since it's steps from the ocean. I would come back in the winter just for the hotel perks, especially the complimentary breakfast served to your cottage or suite every morning and the complimentary bottle of wine.

Carl R.

Yelp
Went away for our birthdays as we do every year decided to switch it up and go to Newburyport. Came across this hotel on line saw and booked it . I just had to say we have stayed away a few times over the years and this by far is in the top 3 stays . From room to staff it was a 5 star stay all around .

Amanda A.

Yelp
This review is based on their off-season rate. ($195 + 15% "service charge" for Sep 7th 2011 - Apr 30th 2012) Just stayed there this weekend and I can't wait to go back!! The staff was very friendly, prompt, and helpful; and the accommodations were clean and beautiful! The little breakfast basket (sent to our cottage at a specific time that we selected between the availability range of 8am - 10am) was very plain (bagel, fruit, juice), but better than I expected. My family and I stayed in one of the cottages and the beach was literally just a few meters away. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen carried all of the essentials. Wish we could have stayed more than just the one night. I had issues with their wifi (couldn't connect at all, but I didn't bother asking to get the problem resolved)--if you need wifi during your stay, make sure to check your connection as soon as you get there, so that you can attempt to get any issues resolved before the office closes for the night. Bottom line and other thoughts: Super expensive, very comfortable, wish I had asked about the wifi. Plum Beach is really lovely and Downtown Newburyport is pretty fun--we spent a LOT of time outside of the room--that's something to keep in mind if you're wondering whether it's really "worth it" to stay in an expensive place like this in the North Shore). Totally memorable, but I do admit that I would think that this place would be overpriced for any rate over $200/night. Go here if you can afford it and/or feel comfortable paying this high for a memorable and nice accommodation!

Yelp
A must for any beach lover! Gorgeous beaches and ocean views. Rooms are available ocean side as well as cottages directly across the street. Off street parking on a quiet residential area. We stayed in a cottage across the street with a kitchen small living room a bathroom and two separate bedrooms. Private patio with access to a hot tub and fire pit. Guests can use one of two hot tubs on property. Blue provides beach chairs and umbrellas. Shout out to Stuart at the blue who helped us with lighting fires, and so much more!!! Bring your own supplies of snacks, water and alcoholic drinks as stores are limited on the main island. There is only one restaurant on the island. Most of the time you have to drive to newbury for meals but it's only a 5 min drive. Nice downtown area with cute boutique shops.

Yelp
This place is so consistent, clean and just easier than AirBNB. No sheets or towels to pack, everything you need is right there. And clean. We love this place and will be back.

Yelp
We recently stayed in the Blue Inn in 2020 August during the pandemic and it turned out to be one of our best vacations in years. Priorities are a bit different this year for us to choose a vacation spot due to the pandemic situation. We cancelled our previous booking at a Cape hotel as we wanted somewhere safe, exclusive, clean, and private but also nice and comfortable so that we could have a good time with our toddler. Blue Inn was exactly what we were looking for. The location of the inn is amazing, right on the beach. The staff were attentive via contactless communication by texting and phone calls. Staff members were wearing masks at all times and we never saw them take their masks off or wear them incorrectly. The room was spacious, comfortable, luxury and very clean. The delivered breakfast basket was absolutely delicious. They also surprised my husband with a bottle of wine for his birthday! After years of spending summers at the Cape and along the north shore coast, I think we finally found our favorite beach vacation spot that we will for sure return in the years to come!

Yelp
My friends and I rented a cottage here for my 30th birthday and it was AMAZING! It was in early March, so it was still fairly cold out, and not too crowded. We pretty much had the cottage area to ourselves, and we got private use of the hot tub for the night. You're right off the beach, too, and it's far enough away from the city that you can see just about every last star in the sky. The only thing I'd say was less than ideal was that their tubs had zero traction. My friend took a bath the night before, and when I went to take a shower the next morning, I slid and banged my knee really badly. When I mentioned it to the front staff during checkout (the staff appears to exclusively be teenagers that look like they belong on a mid-90s WB teen drama, a la Dawsons Creek, but in a sleepy New England beach town), she looked perplexed and actually said something along the lines of "Well what did you want me to do about it?" How about some of those sand paper sticky things in the shower? Regardless, I've been back and absolutely love this place, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a vacation- ESPECIALLY if you're living in the Boston area and want to go for a reasonably priced but well worth it weekend getaway.

Yelp
I stayed as a group (total of 4 adults) in the Blue Oceanfront Suite for 4 days in the beginning of June 2017. We specifically chose this suite because we wanted to be able to cook our own meals on our vacation and have our own private deck and space. Our stay and accommodations met our expectations and we will likely continue to vacation here every summer going forward. We found the morning breakfast baskets a unique surprise and we began to look forward to each day's basket delivery of goodies ! Any requests we had for the staff during our stay were pleasantly met and carried out. The staff went above and beyond to create a birthday welcome treat of cookies, champagne and a handwritten welcome note in the suite upon arrival - how fun ! This inn (especially because of its location) could be a 5 star very easily, but there is some lack of attention to details that although may not prevent me from returning do need to be addressed especially when a guest is paying upwards of $1000 per night. These misses included no lounge furniture ON the private deck (this was rectified when we spoke to management but this really should not have been something we needed to ask for especially since we had called a few days ahead of our stay and specifically verified that the lounge furniture was out since it was early in the season. There were 4 deck chairs on the deck but the matching table was missing and there was a double chaise lounger on the beach - but I think if you have a 4 person suite then it would be reasonable to have enough loungers for all 4 guests), there was no outside deck table (to eat at) on the private deck as was shown in the pictures on the website, there was some cleanliness issues including mildew in the corners/grout of the showers and cobwebs around many Windows, and lastly there was some deferred maintenance issues like chipping paint, multiple non working lights, and rusty screen doors etc. We did not bring this up while we were on site because clearly from other guest reviews and management responses this is an ongoing issue that management is aware of and is either choosing to ignore or waiting to address. Either way the location of the inn outweighed the missing details.

Yelp
We love coming here when we need to get away from it all. It's a lovely oceanfront inn with beautiful views. We like coming here off season because it's very quiet. We recommend you book way in advance and stay in the oceanfront cottage. Nice staff, clean accommodations, not far from town; every amenity you could want, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Yelp
I am going to rave about Blue Inn. We enjoyed our little get away so much. Every one we came in contact with could not have been nicer. Our cottage was PERFECT. Our wood burning stove was a treat. Coming out to glistening blue stones on ground just another reason to see how much energy you all put into wanting us back. Walking on a beautiful beach on a December morning before our breakfast basket came to the room was part of a perfect stay. We will definitely be back. Already lm trying to find time to schedule us back. Can't wait. Thank you so much Nancy & M

Yelp
What a great stay I recently has at the Blue Inn. I have been coming to Plum Island for years during the summer and when I had a chance to come back in the winter I wanted to stay at the Blue Inn. If you like being very close to the ocean this is the place to stay. The staff is great and the room that I had was very clean and beautiful. The breakfast baskets are a very nice touch!! I highly recommend this place for any time of the year.

Yelp
Place is a super cool concept and in an interesting location, but they make it work. A little rustic in some regards for the price. This place is EXPENSIVE! And that being said, not sure if I would be back. You could get a rental on the beach somewhere not too far off for what you pay for two nights here. And there is no restaurant. So you do have to Uber it into downtown for meals or hit the townie place on the island. They do give you a super neat basket full of yummy goodies every morning.

Yelp
My husband and I just spent 3 glorious days at Blue for our anniversary. We had a beautiful clean, fresh, well-appointed room in the main hotel. (They also have some cute cottages.) Everything was literally just steps away for us. A hot tub, a fire pit, the ice dispenser and water cooler.... and an amazing beach! The sunrise from our deck was awesome. There were a lot of things we didn't take advantage of - because we spent most of our time on our deck chairs enjoying the view. (there's a gas fireplace for cooler nights.) One touch that I particularly loved was the delicious breakfast delivered to our door every morning! The food was delicious and carefully and beautifully packaged. You could tell the folks in charge of breakfast loved what they did -right down to the menu they included. (Food was daily scones, biscuits, baked eggs, the most delicious oatmeal i ever tasted! a full pot of coffee and fresh OJ). The staff we met -Shannon and Jay were kind, caring and efficient. We will definitely go back. It is our new special place!

Yelp
Had my wedding dinner reception in the Blue Suite at the Blue Inn. The people that worked there were SO incredibly helpful and thoughtful. The Lark Suite is also stunning with it's floor to ceiling window views. I cannot recommend staying at the Inn more strongly. It is absolutely stunning and every detail thought of.

Yelp
This was one of the best finds ever. This lovely laid back inn on the beach with amazing service and very well appointed rooms was one of the highlights of our New England tour. We booked the ocean view room which afforded us privacy as it was located on an upper floor. Yet we still felt that we were "on the sand". Our room was spacious and had a fireplace that came in handy even on an August night. The entire property is well thought out and even the cottages without a view seemed great.

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing. The perfect retreat from reality. Newly renovated, the modern rooms featured plasma TVs, DVD and CD players in every room, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, a stove and mini fridge and a complementary bottle of wine. The walkways were paved with shiny blue rocks... it was the coolest thing Ive ever seen. A great place to spend the weekend relaxing on the beach right outside your hotel.

Yelp
What an amazing place!! I went up there for Memorial Day weekend with friends from NYC. Best vacation I've had in years! The place is very clean, spacious and comfortable. If you are looking for a quiet and private time on the beach, this is the place for you. The staff is very courteous and helpful. If you go into town, the local people are very nice also. Great restaurants, bars, and shopping! I highly recommend waking up early to watch the sun-rise, its absolutely amazing!!

Yelp
Upon arriving to our unit, the smell of must, mold and mildew was unbearable. After the apartment was flooded with ankle deep water from the rain, the wetness within the apartment smelled so bad like mildew and mold, which was concerning as one of our guest had bronchitis. So, instead of moving us as requested, we were given a fan, on top of having a visitor with bronchitis. We complained to Briana (manager) that we had endured a flood, the mold and mildew, we complained about the gas fire pit that did not work, as well as the filthy hot tub that we all refused to use after seeing it in the daylight. We were informed by Briana that she wanted to manage this between she and I and not her manager. Brianna informed us that they would have a free upgrade next time we visited and cut our fee for staying in half, which was very much appreciated. When I went to rebook for the following summer 2019, I was informed that I could not stay, because it required a three day stay minimum, which I agreed to. Then I was informed that there was no availability for much of the summer of 2019. I was then informed that I wouldn't be able to use the free upgrade that I had been informed about during peak season. Overall cute place with room to grow. The staff while there were very apologetic for the flood, fire pit and jacuzzi, but they reported that they could only do so much with what they're given by management. Other than those few staff, we were given promises that Briana and the Inn could not deliver on. Bummer, won't stay again!

Yelp
For a special weekend away, this is well worth the fairly steep price! Quiet, luxurious beach side rooms, extremely comfortable beds, and a killer view. In the nice weather, there is often is a beach wedding going on - fun to grab a drink and sit on your porch and watch, especially if it's at sunset.

Yelp
This place is incredible. Stayed here with a group of friends in the Grand Salon on short notice and everything was perfectly prepared for us. The perfect combination of modern and rustic, the view is like a portrait. Ocean Front views and rooms so close to the beach you can hear the waves all night. Staff was amazing, very friendly and everything was in pristine condition. Hardly anyone on the beach - not crowded at all. Perfect place to getaway that isn't a tourist hot spot. Would highly recommend. Came up from NYC. Worth every cent.

Yelp
It's amazing! I fell asleep every night to the sounds of waves crashing. I woke up & walked right out to the beach. Staff was helpful with anything my girlfriend & I needed. Blue Inn will be my new summer getaway.

Yelp
Gorgeous. Luxury and privacy in a down-to-earth setting. It felt like we were in California (in a good way).

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE! I had absolutely one of the worst hotel experiences of my life. The prices are absurdly high for the value (and I have stayed at many luxury hotels at this price range) and while the staff is very nice and accommodating, the GM is rude and did an absolutely abhorrent job solving an issue that we had. The room was not very clean, there space is tight, the air conditioning is a joke, the beach is nice but the bugs (especially in the evening) are relentless, and the GM is rude (did I mention that?). I shared my experience with more than a handful of people who tend to stay in similar type properties and one who actually owns several, and they were all shocked by how I was treated. Additionally, I have friends who stayed at Blue in years past and raved about. HOWEVER, the consistent message I have received from colleagues and friends who were recent guests of the hotel is that is had gone down hill (way down hill). I guess my experience is consistent... I wish I had listened to them in the first place! I am sad to say, Blue had me feeling blue and extremely frustrated and unhappy. Money wasted!!!

Yelp
Recently stayed in penthouse three for my anniversary. Great views of the ocean and a beautiful room. It was not cheap, but it is an experience like non other in the area. Worth every penny.

Yelp
Everything about this stay was enjoyable. It was relaxing, the rooms were very nice, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was wonderful. We had a very relaxing vacation, and we can't wait to visit Blue again!

Yelp
The staff was young, friendly, and responsive. The complimentary breakfast basket was nice; don't know what the complaints were about. We stayed in Cottage 14, which is all white and has C/A. It was not a high end unit and the "living room" was tight for the 5 of us (2 adults, 3 small kids), but it was clean and came equipped with microwave, toaster, paper towels, dish soap, and soda in the full-size fridge. Plenty of fry pans, but they only had one small pot, so not sure how they expect one to boil pasta or a lobster. Also could have used a sponge and an outdoor shower; however, the maid washed the dishes each day so that was nice. TVs in every room and free wifi. The blue "pebbles" that fill the paths were annoying as were the noseeums (midges) that attacked all of us. Be sure to bring Off! If you have young kids, also consider walking the short distance to the public beach entrance (rather than going up the white stairs) to access the more extensive "flats" of the beach. BTW, the beach was uncrowded and peaceful and quaint Newburyport is a quick 10 minute ride away.

Yelp
My family and I went up to Plum Island for a 2-night getaway at the beach. Upon calling the inn an hour prior to arrival (well before 3pm check in), they were quick to tell me the cottage would be ready in about an hour which is how long it takes us to get there. So right off the bat, it was already a pleasant and courteous experience. The inn itself has breathtaking views of the water along with a private beach for guests. There are 2 hot tubs on their property and a variety of private cottages available. We stayed in Cottage 61 which is a one bedroom unit on the second floor. The decor is hip white and bright blue. There was a spacious living area with a fairly comfortable pull out queen bed. The bedroom had a king bed and spacious bathroom. The kitchen was fully stocked along with complimentary sodas, waters, coffee with creamers, and a lovely bottle of white wine. It also had every cooking device you could imagine. There is a cute 4 person built in breakfast bar as well which really utilizes the space well. Working fireplace too -- would be great for the Fall! There was a (steep) widow's walk that had great views of the ocean. The staff could not be more accommodating if they tried! Each person always had a smile on their face. We were there over Yankee homecoming weekend in Newburyport. We had reservations in town and wanted to stay to watch fireworks afterwards. Jessie tried to get us a taxi but the wait was an hour and a half so jokingly we asked in one of the staff would drive our car one way into town and we would take a taxi back. She immediately inquired with the General Manager, David, and said he would be more than happy to drive us into town. David was extremely courteous, friendly, and professional. He is also the son of the owner and gave us some background on how they came up with the concept (a hotel in St. Bart's) as well as the history and reconstruction and renovation they had to do when they opened it back in 2003. We offered a tip to him and after insisting profusely he did take it and should have as he deserved it! Also other added touches were the daily breakfast they deliver in a picnic basket on your porch each morning - quality products and a large continental breakfast - muffins, danish, bagels, croissants, juices, yogurts, and fruit. There were also blue beach cruisers available to use at your leisure, which we did one afternoon. One suggestion is that it would be nice if there were outdoor showers at the cottages. We are looking forward to going back with other family members in a few weeks!

Yelp
This place was love at first site. From the blue marbles on the walkways to the white walls and white wood floors, everything was absolutely perfect. The beachfront rooms were spacious, clean, and the perfect place to spend time overlooking the beach... that is if the weather was not suitable for balcony sitting. I also highly recommend sitting in the large white armchairs - BEYOND comfortable. The staff was accommodating and helpful, answering any questions that we had regarding our vacation in Newburyport. I can't wait to head back for another amazing weekend at blue.
