We were over the moon at the Blue Moon Cafe! We had a groovy lunch there while traveling and the staff were INCREDIBLE! They accommodated us with 2 large German Shepherds. They even bought a peanut butter cup for each to keep them busy while we ate. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was relaxed. Highly recommend and will absolutely visit when we are in the area again.

This little restaurant is like a hidden oasis. It was super cute and secluded. It has a natural running stream through the outside seating area. The food came out quickly and had decent flavor. The service was good.

Google
What a great spot! There's a spring-fed canal that runs through town and right through the patio of this cafe, it's super picturesque. The food is good, the service is friendly. I'd recommend for anything from a solo meal to a birthday party.

My husband and I were traveling on our motorcycle. We just so happen to come across this at a stop sign. You’ve always heard a diamond in the rough. This is absolutely the most beautiful little gemstone I’ve ever come across. This is one of those places that I just can’t put into words how amazing this place is. Their garden seating is so romantic, laid-back and just absolutely peaceful. You’re gonna have to experience it for yourself. I highly recommend this place 100%.

Google
What a great little place!! We sat outside in their beautiful outdoor space, had a fantastic meal (my dad said his sandwich, the gobbler, was the best sandwich he's had in a long time), and our server was absolutely top notch. Truly a wonderful time!!

I go to the local college and eat here on occasion, I usually get the French dip sub. The taste is amazing and all of their bread (sub rolls, pizza crust, etc) is perfect! It’s so crunchy but soft and so fresh! The taste of basically anything on their menu is to die for with such a wide verity for anything you’re in the mood for. The service is great and very friendly but not overbearing. The atmosphere is gorgeous, it makes you want to ask where half of their decor is from! Excellent place, can’t wait to go back.

Google
Great cafe, nice outdoor seating and something for everyone on the menu. I think the specialities seem to be the salads - as they look really good and give big portions. The wrap and burger were good, but I found my wrap to be a bit small for $15. The food came out a bit slow and we were confused why two tables that sat down after us got food before us but still recommend this place and think it’s a great cafe, with nice atmosphere and fresh food.

Google
This place has a cozy atmosphere, friendly servers, and pretty quick service in the off-hours (I tend to take lunch later in the day). My Blue Moo salad has fresh, crispy greens, tasty roast beef, and deliciously tangy Gorgonzola cheese. The meatloaf sandwich is tender and flavorful. There are steps inside, so beware if you’re sitting inside and have mobility issues, let them know right away.

Yelp
This culinary gem is the crown jewel of the local restaurant scene. You can't beat its setting with an outdoor seating area that boasts a babbling brook and lush foliage. The vibe is hippie casual and I couldn't get enough of it. Our server (Hailey) was superb, as expertly guided me toward a delicious Beef and Brie sandwich. This sandwich was a hearty score that screamed succulent and delicious with every bite... yum!! For me, the Blue Moon Cafe is a must see stop when I'm in town. I look forward to exploring the rest of its menu.

Yelp
Wow! This place is like a dream! The ambience is amazing. It's like being in your favorite aunt's house who is an older hippy at heart. Cozy. Decorated with blue moons and accented with yellow. So much to look at! Adorable outside courtyard garden area with tables to eat when the weather is nice. I can't wait to go back in the spring or summer to see that! The food is typical bar food but it does have a nice, large selection of salads. However, when I saw they had a black & blue burger on the menu I had to get that. I didn't regret it. They asked how I wanted it cooked which is a good sign. I asked for medium and it was more cooked than I prefer, but still had a good grilled flavor without being dry. The tangy blue cheese offset it perfectly. It came with fries, but I think i substituted onion rings. Whatever I had, it was delicious. 5/5 will definitely be going back. Maybe next time I will try one of their salads. Service was great and the waitress was wonderful, even though they were getting ready to close for the evening. She didn't make us feel rushed at all.

Yelp
Dogs are allowed inside and on the patio! Everyone is so friendly! The place is colorful and bright.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday afternoon, after a bike ride. I've never sat inside but the outdoor space is really nice. Service was good as was the food. Nice little creek with lots of shade. We all had sandwiches and although my veggie sandwich was good it was a little underwhelming in size. Everything else was great. Enjoy this spot, especially on a nice day when you can sit outside.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but it was terrible. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip. Where were the spinach and artichoke? It was all mayonnaise. What a disappointment. My wife and I ordered what the server recommended. The Ruben was pretty good but the special burger, which was ordered medium, came well done with a strange crumbly texture. My granddaughter ordered and got a personal pizza she was unable to eat. All and all it was a very bad experience.

Yelp
Amazing food in good portions, friendly staff, and a lovely outdoor dining area. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Great lunch spot in Shepherdstown. Favorite apps are cucumber bruschetta, hummus plate, and sesame noodles. I've had the quiche, multiple sandwiches, burgers, and salads; all well above my average. On a nice day, the outside tables with water feature and shade are relaxing and enjoyable. Try it out if you get a chance.

Yelp
The outside ambiance of this place is unmatched! We were seated outside (but felt like I was in a magical rainforest) under beautiful trees, various foliage, pretty lights & a stream running through the seating area. It was so peaceful and really felt like I was in a fairy tale forest. The sound of the stream makes it so you can't hear other people's conversations and it so peaceful to hear. The menu is pretty expansive. Appetizers, Pizzas, sandwiches, entrees. I wished I had more time to eat more here but we just came for a quick app and drinks. The spinach artichoke dip was great! Service was great.

Yelp
The outside patio area is so peaceful and the service was wonderful. It is a hidden gem.

Yelp
Searching "Restaurants near me" on Yelp led me to find The Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown, WV while on a road trip. What a gem! The small restaurant is quaintly tucked on a corner near Sheperd University. It's so cute and cozy! We sat outside on the adorable new age patio and enjoyed a lovely lunch. Nadean was our server and she was professional and pleasant. I enjoyed the Buffalo Ranch Salad with tasty chicken strips, tomatoes, cucumbers, French fried onions (yummers!), cheese and fresh greens. It was delicious. I stole my partner's French fries because they were yummers, also. They make their salsa in house here and it's so, so good. Thanks, Yelpers, for showing me this really cool cafe.

Yelp
I found this location last month, and I've been working my way through the menu choice that appeal to me...I've had the Reuben, Rachael, chubby burger and today the chicken cheese steak, I've not been disappointed with any of my choices. There is awesome outdoor seating and they have a good choice of draft beers...If you are ever in the area I think it's a must do, also great prices and friendly staff!

Yelp
Took 10 minutes to get a drink order the waiter forgot my drink order after 30 seconds he didn't write anything down we ordered the blue moon burger it was so burnt we couldn't eat it which was a shame the burger did have good flavor just couldn't choke it down it was so dry

Yelp
The food is good. We've been here a few times over the years. Love the burgers and the rolls they use with the burgers. Outside dining is available and it is nice- kind of a secluded, wooded feel. We did have our toddler with us today (for lunch) but did not notice if they had high-chairs. One was not offered if they do have them available but, we had our guy in the stroller so we just moved him close to the table and it was all good. Low marks for the service- incorrect drink order was brought out first. Then the food took forever- over 40 minutes, and our server never checked in with us. Otherwise, it was a good outing.

Yelp
A friend from the area liked this local favorite so we got here around 12:30 on a Thursday and grabbed the last outdoor table. Beautiful garden area with the Town Run (waterway) adding to the unique setting. We started with the Crab Dip appetizer. Parm cheese topping was a twist and we enjoyed it. For lunch it was the French Dip and Triple B Burger. French Dip was tasty and the Burger had house ground beef (char broiled taste) with Brie and Bacon bringing it all together. Although we didn't try any, they have a good selection of local/craft brews. Not much room for dessert but couldn't pass on the Peanut Butter Mousse pie. House made and had just the right amount of PB taste in the Mousse. Chocolate graham crust was tasty but could have been thicker. We saw a few dogs in the outdoor area as they are dog friendly. Service was engaged and attentive. Kaye took great care of us answering our questions and made some solid recommendations. Great spot for a laid back and relaxing lunch!

Yelp
The food is great and the servers are very friendly but here are minor complaints I have. Once when I was in Shepherdstown and wanted to try it at 7pm it was closed, also they didn't have any liquor just beer. There were some excellent selections of beer that were great. Let's not forget outdoor seating and the pretty plants growing out there. Has a great experience none of my minor complaints are not deal breakers

Yelp
We have a puppy, so we are always looking for a dog friendly restaurants with outdoor seating. The Blue Moon ticked those boxes and exceeded our expectations with a magical setting under the trees by the creek. I got a Rachel, which was really good, my husband got a white pizza, and we both enjoyed our food a lot. A lot of the staff came out to meet our puppy, which is always fun. Super dog-friendly spot, good prices, quite a few veggie options, and one of our favorite dining experiences of 2023!! We will be back.

Yelp
Came in on the recommendation of a local. No one ever came around to our table. The waitress came to a table beside us that was sat after we were. She got them drinks and their food order. After 15min we left. The hostess, waitress, and other staff were eating and hanging out by the bar area on their phones. Doesn't appear to be a place with very serious staff, which is a shame because their other reviews are quite good. Hopefully the owners will see this and correct their staff.

E S.

Yelp
Great service. Gazpacho was yummy. Sandwiches are always awesome tho I wish they offered a low carb bread and low carb desserts. The salmon portion on my partners dish was a bit small.

Yelp
Service was slow, food was cool, and I don't appreciate politics with my meal. Spend more time in the kitchen and training your staff and less on political messaging. We go out to eat, not to have someone tell us how to vote.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and good service! They have an outdoor patio I can't wait to visit as soon as it gets warmer!!
google avatar

Ronney B.

Yelp
Heathy proportions of food. Burger was delicious and my husband's cheese quesadilla was very large. He liked it. He also got a side salad and it was large enough to be a full meal. We treated ourselves to the lava cake. OMG! Delish! We recommend!

Yelp
Visited Antietam Battlefield (Sharpsburg MD) just across the Potomac in the morning and needed some lunch! Blue Moon had been recommended by friends, and the extensive menu options were tempting. We arrived and were seated immediately. Our server delivered menus and a warm welcome. We split a salad and sandwich - both were delicious and extra sharing plates were provided. The atmosphere was cheerful and the kitchen knows how to deliver great taste. We'll definitely come back!

Yelp
What a lovely little spot! Was in Shepherdstown for a family thing, went to Blue Moon for lunch, and was delighted by the setting the food, the whole vibe. Definitely recommend for good food - particularly strong salad performance - and a very chill atmosphere to gather with friends for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
I enjoyed a quick lunch at this cute lunch spot. We sat outside and loved the new age funky patio. Service was good. Had a pulled pork sandwich and it was yummy. Will visit again when I'm in this area.

Yelp
This was a delightful place to stop for dinner. Funky decor and tasty food. Plenty of vegetarian choices. Very reasonable prices. Customers masked to their tables. Workers all masked. We got the last baklava for dessert.

Megha S.

Yelp
Disappointed in the food - canned food served as a dish, defrosted store bought food as appetizer. The service was nice and very nice cozy ambience. We went in expecting better.

Yelp
100% recommend this place (especially after a nice hike at Maryland's trail in Harper's Ferry). My friend and I ordered burgers and fries and it was delicious. Fries were done to perfection! The outdoor area with the small creek and shade made for the perfect and peaceful atmosphere. We had our dog with us and the place is very dog-friendly. Service was super attentive and friendly. Don't have second thoughts coming here, you won't regret it :)

Yelp
Great little cafe off the beaten track. Ambiance is eclectic and interesting. There's a comfy cozy vibe. The menu is varied and offers many good lunch choices. The service was friendly and efficient.

Veronica P.

Yelp
1st visit, really cute little spot, the weather was perfect and I was dining alone, and wanted to eat outside, but they had no seats available I ordered the bacon cheddar quiche, and it was way overcooked, like 20 minutes too long, deep brown on top and dry as bone. I didn't complain as they were extremely busy, and I came hungry. Will I return? Yes, and try again to get a table outside, which looks like a really cool space, and maybe order something different.

Yelp
Located one block NE of German and Princess Streets, like everything else in Shepherdstown, is an easy walk through this colorful little town that's been my home for the last few years. I like the dining area that's brightened as the walls are full of windows. I've never sat on the shady patio; but, it looks so inviting. The service is on point, Bree is spectacular! And I like the French dip sandwiches. Can't get away from them!
google avatar

Ron V.

Yelp
The food is very good. I hadn't dined there in quite a while. I had the French Dip. The beef was tender, the au jus tasted fresh and wasn't overly salty and the roll had a nice crunch to it. My wife had the quiche and said it was excellent. Service was above average especially since they were busy. I will not wait to return.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful outdoor seating when weather permits. Food is fresh and the menu has a nice variety. Service is prompt and friendly.

Yelp
I used to come here a couple years ago and the food here was amazing. Today I visited and the food was extremely salty. We asked for an appetizer, 2 sandwiches, and fries. The fries and appetizer were given to us, and after eating we asked when the sandwiches were coming. We were told that we never ordered the sandwiches, and that they would be out in a few minutes. After telling us that the sandwiches would be paid for, after eating, they turned around to tell us that the manager did not approve and we would in fact have to pay. It's too bad because the restaurant itself is very cute.

Kathy R.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our meal here. The food was great, the staff very helpful. The location is cool too, next time we will make a reservation to sit outside.

Yelp
Brought the Mazda Sports Cars of Washington. DC scenic drive here today. Called a few days in advance to make a reservation, and working with the Blue Moon Cafe was a joy. We called ahead as we began our drive to give them our final total (17 diners) and they were ready for us when we arrived a little early. They put us all in one room with appropriate distancing, and had no trouble with our need for separate checks. The service was terrific, and the food was excellent. EVERY SINGLE PERSON in the group felt the Blue Moon Cafe deserved five stars. Just want to say that the parking across the street for the university was ridiculously convenient for us - it's free on weekends and there were plenty of spaces for our 13 cars. This place is going on to the club list of known good food, and we'll definitely stop in again!

Ed H.

Yelp
Great food, atmosphere and service. Whenever I'm close, Blue Moon is my go-to. Especially after a bike ride on the C&O.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful wooded outdoor seating area, with the "town run" brook bisecting it. (There is also indoor seating.) Service was great. Food very good. Cheesecake was bland.

Jld D.

Yelp
We sat outside which is beautiful. Our server showed up with a smile and every question about preparation or dietary needs was answered with a huge smile ANC's "can do" attitude. The Blue Moon burger was delicious- only thing that could have made it better was if it had arrived medium-rare as ordered vs medium. The southwest wrap was great and the blonde beer was refreshing. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
I bought a shirt here. My kids received leprechaun coins here for being good during dinner. The food pleased everyone. They did not have a jukebox. They also did not have a wait to get seated. They were able to accommodate our party of 9 at a real wooden table. This would be a good place for a romantic coming of age story to start or finish in. I would not recommend the clams because they did not have any on the menu to order, so it would be confusing to the staff.

Alex F.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVED this place. Super cute patio in the back with lots of shade and we were cool even in the afternoon on an over-90 degree day. The food was tasty and cooked well, and the staff was very friendly. After eating here for lunch, we got takeout for dinner. The Buffalo chicken salad and pulled pork sandwich were highlights for sure.
google avatar

Samantha S.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast and mimosas. Servers were friendly and large space. they had a cute pond you could sit nearby.
google avatar

Karla M.

Yelp
What a wonderful cafe! The ambience here is to be free and happy. There is an actual river that runs through the restaurant - amazing and so peaceful. We had a cucumber salad as an appetizer and it was quite tasty - so much flavor. I also enjoyed a brie burger with a side salad - ummm, my plate was clean! Lol. Also, very delicious. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Pluses: 1) lots of vegan and veggie options 2) friendly staff 3) dogs allowed inside and on the patio 4) clearly gay friendly Drawbacks: 1) meat was well done no matter if you asked for medium rare or rare 2) several items missing or wrong

Yelp
This place clearly has a loyal following and it makes sense. Truly unique, a lot of their seating is actually outdoors with a real spring fed stream running through the patio area. Very cool. The indoor seating area has such a laid back warm and inviting energy that immediately makes you feel relaxed. All around it's fun and chill energy here. We love that they have a cool assortment of local brews. I mean who doesn't love a touch of local flavor? The menu is eclectic but their standout items are the nachos, reuben sandwich, and burritos. They do get quite busy during the lunch hour so a tip is to be there right when they open for lunch. You'll see a mix of college students and likely bikers stopping for a bite during their journey on the C&O bike trail which leads me to mentioning that this a great spot for all you bikers on the C&O canal!

Yelp
Ate here recently for 5 weekends in a row. In each meal the food was excellent: buffalo chicken salad, broccoli chedder cheese quiche, sweet potato fries, etc. Yesterday's hamburger with melted gorgonzola blue cheese was literally the best hamburger I've had in a restaurant in years !!! (including those in NYC, Chicago, Kansas City, etc.) Service is always great, the prices very reasonable. The ambiance, whether near the babbling creek or inside, makes this one of my favorite oasis in the country.
google avatar

Christina R.

Yelp
Love the outdoor seating here especially during COVID. The tables are well over 6 feet apart (more like 15), and under beautiful plant cover. Food is pretty good: hit or miss in my experience. Triple B burger is delish, and their fries are too. Ordered the chicken and reds salad as well which was more of a miss from my perspective. Really enjoyed that there is a smaller salad option though. They also have a selection of a few beers and mimosas-- one traditional and one called a Long John with blueberry pomegranate juice. This was the perfect low key drink with lunch. Staff is super friendly, tables are cleaned between guests, and everyone is wearing masks. To try next time: (housemade) black bean burger, quesadilla, burrito, (housemade) crab cake

Kiersten D.

Yelp
If I could leave no stars, I would. Didn't have high hopes upon walking in. I don't understand the incredibly positive reviews- I had a terrible experience with my family. The hostess upon entry immediately assumed we would want to sit outside (we didn't), and didn't ask our preference until after she asked if we wanted to go on the wait. After being sat inside, our server greeted us and asked what we'd like to drink. My table ordered 2 waters, a tea, and a sprite. Everyone else received their drinks- minus a sprite, which took 15 minutes, because our waitress forgot. We were right by the drink station. Our appetizer, the cucumber bruschetta, took 27 minutes to grace the presence of our table. Our entrees took 50. Upon trying to ask the server about our food because the table behind us, who'd been sat 10 minutes AFTER us, received their food before us, the server became snippy and rude to us. She was not kind and was snippy. She even went so far as to "promise" our food would be out in just a minute, although she took another table their food before us. In short, I was incredibly displeased and will not be returning.
google avatar

Kayla H.

Yelp
The garden area is great. Not the cleanest place, but with a few beers and twilight, it's pretty solid. I ordered nachos, which were a full meal. They add a lot of beans, which is great for a vegetarian (or any person that like delicious foods). I would recommend the nachos. Our group also ordered the mushroom Philly "cheesesteak." Not health food, but tasty! Also, gazpacho, quiche, one of the sandwiches, and one of the burgers. Everyone seemed pleased. Overall, we'd go back.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Fabulous service, friendly staff. Over the moon - amazing sweet potato fries! Cute decire / ambiance:) Devore includes fun blue riesling bottles.

Yelp
Really cool little cafe we just happened across ... If possible sit outside near the little bubbling brook/stream that comes under the street and into the patio-area. Great sandwiches - Reuben and forget it's name but turkey and some sort of cheese and raspberry jam sandwich! Teas was good too. Has several beers on tap but skipped for lunch.
