Women Who Travel Podcast: Solo Travel, According to Rachel Cargle

"Oh. Yes, yes, you have to get to Jamaica. I have this little cabin up in the mountains, up in Blue Mountain, and it's really incredible, one, because it's surrounded by all this greenery. There's a river that runs behind it, and it's just like such a special place, but also, it's just 30 minutes outside of the city of Kingston, and it's this incredible Jamaican experience outside of just being on the beach. And, I really, uh, do not take for granted the very local, um, experience that I get up in the mountains of Jamaica."

Getting to the place can be tricky since google maps are misleading there. Don’t hesitate asking locals for directions, they are very friendly and helpful even if completely stoned. Once you get to the place, you will be surrounded by unbelievably beautiful mountains, lots of hummingbirds in the day and fireflies in the night. Very quiet and peaceful place with extremely friendly stuff. Ask about dinner and breakfast in advance and you will not regret it, they are cooking simple but very yummy authentic food. Make sure you have plenty of drinking water with you since they don’t have any. Also they don’t accept any of the credit cards, so carry cash with you. The nearest ATM is located far away from there in Buff Bay.

Fish Dunn Falls is an awesome way to relax/chill while enjoying the rush of the waterfalls. A great place to meditate, do some yoga or outing with family/Friends. This is a tourist mecca for many visiting portland parish.

Escape here from the city. Take some warm clothes as it can get cold, especially at night. New facilities for visitors have opened but most go there for the hills, waterfalls and sky. Rare plants abound, take a camera.
