Very nice and casually luxurious vibe, but at an affordable price. The food and the staff are the standouts of the hotel. Excellent! There’s no pool and no aircon, so it’s not a five star category hotel. However the whole experience and particularly the people here, more than makes up for that.

This could be my favourite hotel ever. It's certainly the best value. I'm not a fan of resorts. I think they isolate you from the culture you've travelled halfway around the world to experience. Plus the money rarely benefits the local community. Blue Oyster is family owned. It is also committed to looking after the environment. So there's no air conditioning or pools. But that hardly seems necessary when you have sea breezes and the ocean to swim in. The hotel is right on the beach. The menu is constantly changing. The food is terrific and very fairly priced. And of course the staff are an absolute delight. I can not recommend this place highly enough.

We are from America and had the good fortune to stay at the Blue Oyster last year following a trip with friends to the Serengeti. It was a treat. When we found ourselves visiting Uganda this year I made a point to add 4 days at the end of our journey in Zanzibar at the Blue Oyster. Our stay did not disappoint! The property is intimate and absolutely lovely. The staff are competent and friendly and our stay was delightful. We just loved sitting on our balcony looking at the sea. We swam out front at high tide and enjoyed the view at low tide. The bed was comfy and the food delicious! The manager, Mr. Kishu, was extremely helpful. Both during planning our visit and helping with some airport snafu's which caused some change to our transportation arrangements. It is a looooong way from home but a place we hope to visit again. Definitely a highlight of our trip both years. BTW. don't miss an outing with Captain Zapy to sail the spectacular water and snorkle. |Sally M.

A 25 years old hotel, very need of improvement fast, no swimming pool, but that's OK, but no AC in the bedroom, almost impossible to sleep 😢, but the staff and food all good.

It looks just lovely as It’s right on the beach , but you can’t really swim here and it’s very tidal despite being in a lagoon . The sea urchins are everywhere make it hard to walk out to swim in bare feet ! You need to walk out an incredibly far distance to bring water to a depth to swim in . So no real swimming ! Lovely off shore cooling breeze but that can whisk up at night and become very unpleasant ! We cut our stay short for this reason ! The bar on beach only opens after midday and runs out for days of drinks and ice ???? It as always closed when we wanted drinks ! Staff friendly but do the minimum possible ! And poke poke means waiting an hour for dinner service after ordering in advance by four hours ! You must order your dinner in the afternoon ! Nice beach beds and shade ! Food only very average and really not to our desired standard ! Rooms are on top of each other and little privacy ! I would not recommend other than a two day stop over ! The weather was poor and story while we were there that made us very cut off and isolated !
