This Florida State Park Has a Caribbean-blue, Spring-fed Swimming Hole and Is a Gathering Site for Hundreds of Manatees

"For a relaxed wildlife‑viewing break on the St. Johns, the river cruise delivers entertaining, knowledgeable captains, shaded boats, and great views of alligators, amazing birds, and—if you’re lucky—manatees; the outfitter also rents canoes and kayaks." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. We brought the family to Blue Springs State park for a day. Upon walking around the park, we noticed Blue Spring Adventures. They had availability for a mid afternoon time slot, so we ordered tickets. Shout out to our tour guide, she was very informative, had some interesting stories, provided jokes that actually made us laugh, and was considerate to the fact that people want to see animals up close. Anytime a bird or alligator was spotted, she would stop and back up the boat, describe where the animal was so we could all get a better photo. The tour lasts an hour and it was more than worth it. The river alone was a beautiful site. We didn't see any manatees, but saw plenty of birds and alligators. I highly recommend the boat tour and Blue Springs State Park. Thanks tour lady, sorry I forgot your name.🙂

Very relaxing hour cruise on the river. Thr captain pointed out all types of wildlife' birds , deer and gators. Shr told us some history of the river and information about the creatures that live in this habitat. She even would back up to help us get better photos and views. It was worth the cost (less than $30). Walking the park after was also amazing. A lot of wildlife and a place to go swimming. On weekends there are concessions and a store. I think they rent innertubes there. By the river boat they rent kayaks if you want to get closer.

Absolutely excellent. The tour guide was so dedicated and hilarious. Well worth the cost! The weather was gorgeous and we saw lots of birds and some gators. Plus after we walked by the spring and saw manatees! Absolutely wonderful!

What an excellent way to cruise was to explore more of the unseen areas of the park. The information guide/boat captain gave us was fun and informative as well. Would love to do it again when back in the area.

We went on the one hour narrated boat ride. Just managed to catch the last one of the day which was at 2:30pm. We went in mid October. And saw plenty of wildlife. Narration by the team member was fantastic. Fun and informative.

Our guide, Lee , was very knowledgeable. We saw a great variety of trees, birds (including osprey and a bald eagle) and other wildlife, (including manatee, turtles and alligators), and enjoyed a very peaceful boat ride. We would definitely do this again!

Our 1 hour tour of the St. Johns River was incredible. The boat was comfortable and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. We saw a variety of birds, alligators, and even manatees. I would 100% recommend this experience. My family (including 10 and 12 year old boys) loved it. Don't forget to walk the boardwalk of the Blue Springs. If you visit during the late fall/winter there are manatees in the crystal clear water. Absolutely breathtaking!

Blue Springs Adventures in Florida offers a memorable experience for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The park boasts stunning natural beauty, with crystal-clear springs, lush greenery, and abundant wildlife, creating a perfect setting for relaxation and exploration. A major highlight is the opportunity to view manatees, especially during the cooler months when they gather in the warm springs. The St. Johns River cruise is another must-do, offering beautiful scenery and wildlife sightings like alligators and birds, often narrated by knowledgeable captains. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of activities, from swimming and snorkeling in the spring to hiking and kayaking, with camping facilities available for extended stays. The park also provides valuable educational opportunities about the ecosystem and conservation. However, Blue Springs is a popular destination and can get crowded, particularly during peak season and weekends. Manatee viewing is also best during the cooler months (November to March), and kayaking within the spring itself might be limited to protect the manatees. Despite these potential drawbacks, the overall experience is well worth it, making Blue Springs a must-visit destination in Florida. Visiting during the off-season or on weekdays, arriving early, checking the park's website for updates, and bringing essentials like sunscreen and insect repellent are helpful tips for maximizing your visit.
