This is the kind of boutique where you want--no, need--to buy everything you see. It's just so fun, and smart, and a little weird. But, to be honest, after a while it feels more like a museum of cool stuff than an actual store.
For example, the jewelry on the first floor is eclectic and perfect for gift giving. Only after you've spent a half hour perusing it, however, do you realize that there's no way you're going to pay this much for a cute piece, no matter how whimsical. The clothes and shoes upstairs look great, but they're quite limited, both in selection and sizing.
Now, I understand that Blue Tree is on Madison Avenue and is owned by actress Phoebe Cates. I mean, we're not going to see back-to-school sales here. She's got her audience figured out, and this is what the market will bear. But, oh, if only a few of those cool tchochkes were more reasonably priced . . .
Just when I had decided that this was a place for browsing, not buying, I saw a bin of ring watches ($30 a piece) by the register. Now we're talking! Bought two, one for me and one for my favorite cousin, who was suitably impressed by my brush with celebrity.
