Nice restaurant with beautiful view. Kid friendly with a diverse menu, highchairs and some pencils and drawings on arrival. I had the Chorizo and pesto gnocchi which were excellent. My husband had the chimichurri steak which was good but lack a bit of a twist. Service was good. Overall I would recommend.

What a great bar/ restaurant. The friendliest of staff! The best happy hour deals. Great food. Great drinks. Views of the river and city skyline. What more do you need? Plus they have a very good cafe across the way in the mall area which is a great spot during the day for a quick bite or coffee, etc. With the yummiest caramel slice. Between the Langham and Quay West suites. Level 2 in the Southgate building.

Good food with Stunning views. My go to food was the lamb lion. Staff was friendly and ambience was good. Venue is spacious, even though with lot of customers didn't feel like we were cramped into our table.

Wow! We got lucky finding Bluetrain. Not far from our hotel but hiding upstairs off the promenade so make sure you venture in! You won’t regret it. Highly recommend the chicken burger (YUM!!) kids fish and chips and the Eton Mess for dessert but everyone at our table really enjoyed their meals so I don’t think I you can go wrong. My mates steak looked so good. SO reasonably priced too. Can highly recommend!!!!

We had a very nice lunch with my friend there. The prices are better compared to other restaurants around. We had fish and chips. The portion was generous and very tasty. The service was great and the view from the window was stunning.

Blue Train is in a prime spot right in the heart of Melbourne, making it perfect for a quick stop between exploring the city’s sights. The location is truly one of its best features—easy to find and surrounded by the vibrant energy of the area. The food itself was decent; it won’t blow you away, but it’s satisfying for a quick meal and has a good variety on the menu. The drinks were nice as well, and the space has a laid-back vibe that’s great for catching up with friends or taking a break. However, one of the major downsides was the Wi-Fi situation. They advertise free Wi-Fi, but the signal inside the building is so poor that it’s almost unusable. I tried connecting a few times, and even after asking the staff for help, I didn’t get much assistance. It seemed like either they weren’t willing or weren’t able to resolve it, which was frustrating because a reliable internet connection would make it a much more appealing spot for people on the go, especially tourists or anyone needing to catch up on work. Overall, if you’re just looking for a convenient place to grab a bite in a great location, Blue Train is worth a try. But if you’re hoping to get some work done or rely on Wi-Fi, this might not be the best choice.

Food was really good. I enjoyed the sliced beef, it was medium rare. There was no other beer that I like, since they don't sell corona, I opted to get Jameson instead.

We came here on a Friday evening around 7:30 We easily got a table without needing to wait The service was great, the staff were super friendly and helpful Our food came out quickly We ordered the Mac and cheese croquettes, the dumplings and the prosciutto pizza The dumplings were the highlight of what we had ordered The pizza was overly salty and lacked balance The Mac and cheese croquettes had a super nice crunch We had the ability to split the bill and pay separately which was fantastic and made it easier between the table rather than having the need to transfer funds over at a later stage to who ever paid

Yelp
We were excited to come here for happy hour 2 for 1 cocktails and $6 wine. We bought two margaritas and a red wine. The bill was $34 American dollars! Something was terribly wrong and the margaritas were NOT good. If you go, get a beer.

Yelp
Great location, good ambience, tasty food. Visited with my teenage son and an old friend on a Tuesday night and had the yellow chicken curry, pizza with prosciutto, and the BT Burger. Curry good, pizza awesome, but the burger suffered not from poor execution, but just packed too much into it, so really became too rich to be a great burger - conceptually great but over worked. Nice and friendly servers, but not super experienced and coordinated by management, so it was a bit hit and miss in terms of who to order from. Wine list is fun also, and again, location is awesome, great view of the river and one of my favorite cities in the world.

Yelp
Well, the location of this place is so amazing and luckily their coffee is also not bad but the service is not great, they do not treat customers with great respect, that's what i felt but where the credit is due, you have to give it, so here are the good and bad parts:- Good: 1. The location is so amazing. 2. The little cookie/biscuit thingy (it's really good) 3. Coffee beans - Ok OK but manageable 4. Price - Okay ( means for a large coffee for $4 it's okay) 5. Lastly, the rewards card with free coffee option after some 5-6 cups. Bad: 1. They are always in hurry 2. Treatment and respect wise ( they are pretty low i would say) 3. They don't listen properly, (since REGUS is all MNC and clients coming in from different parts of the world,so the cafe has to be a little cautious with the needs of specific customer, for eg: I saw an elderly Japanese business person who was having some difficulty ordering espresso and the Aus accent sometimes is hard to understand, so after sometime, the barista got fed up and the vibes were not great, so yeah just my opinion, no hard feelings towards anyone...) But, location wise, really amazing place...

Yelp
Have eaten here for years but never again. Went in on Sunday before a show at the arts center. We ordered some plates to share. When the mussels arrived most of them were cold. We told the staff who informed the kitchen only to be told that we were wrong. We only ate about three and left the rest. We were still charged for them and instead of making a fuss just paid and left. The photo is the size of the dish we left behind. When a customer complains, take it seriously. We won't be going back.

Yelp
What great food. We ordered heaps of starters and they were all really well done. My fav was the zucchini and feta fritters. But we also had the salt and pepper calamari, prawn dumplings, and a margarita pizza. One of the criteria I rate a place on, aside from the coffee (which I didn't have here), is the variety of beer on tap. This place definitely had variety, whether you were in to pale ales, lagers or something with more bite. Service was friendly and prompt. I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
Blue train is a quick and easy meal place where you don't have to think too hard and you leave feeling satisfied. There really is something for everyone at Blue Train. The environment is a relaxed one, with an open air balcony that looks out onto city views. The stick date pudding is amazing and the helpings are extremely generous!

Stephanie W.

Yelp
Fun fact! A scene from oceans 13 was filmed on the little balcony here at blue train cafe, overlooking flinders st station, with Julia Roberts. Aside from that little claim to fame, this is a really nice place in a beautiful part of the city. I've always gone to Blue Train at lunch time and I love looking out over the yarra while enjoying my meal. Service is quick at lunch, perfect for an hour long lunch break, and plenty of friends have raved about their breakfast, which runs right through to 3pm. I personally love their seafood nasi goreng, the grilled saganaki, and the veal scallopini hits the spot when you are looking for something a little heartier. and if you have room, make sure you try one of their daily desserts!!

Yelp
The blue seats remind you of an old milk bar with that train like ambience. This is not the type of establishment that you would take someone out to dinner; just leave it for a family lunch or a casual treat like lunch with a close friend of yours for a sunny Sunday afternoon. This is the type of vibe this establishment attracts. Dinner dates are a big no no in my books from previous life experiences at this establishment. This place has anything and everything to suit all modern taste buds: pizza, fish and chips and also eggs benedict for breakfast to name. It is disappointing that this establishment does not allow Qantas Frequent Flyer members to earn points on money spent at this establishment anymore. You think the food menu is overwhelming; wait until you see their drinks menu. This place is expensively cheap; high energy with young staff who want to dress up trendy and hippy. Expect to be done within an hour. The service is great; the staff are fast on their feet; although they are young not many of them appreciate what great customer service actually means. A couple of them can be a little rude which can spoil the entire experience at this establishment; to the point where your memory gets expanded: it could be a while until you return if this happens to you.

Yelp
Pizza was OK, burger & steak were sh**house. Cooked perfectly but a terrible cut of meat (steak) overpowered by garlic. Burger again was well prepared but the ONLY tastes were mustard and pickles. Wasted $117.

Yelp
Of all the restaurants in the shopping centre that seemed reasonably priced, Blue Train Cafe seemed to have the best looking menu by far. As such, my husband and I decided to give it a try. The day we stopped in, they had a special on beer and a steak, which my husband went for, and I tried their bacon-wrapped filet with mash. My steak was a bit grissly (as was my husbands) and didn't have that much flavour. That said, I'd try this place again in a heartbeat. Other items on the menu looked equally enticing, and I fear this just may have been a case of the place not being a steak place. The atmosphere of the place was great, and the outlooks onto the river were quite nice. The staff were also quite friendly and efficient. Overall, the experience was great, but the food we ordered that night was a bit of a let down.

Yelp
The Blue Train Cafe is local to my work and a fave for an after work drink. I went for the first time last Friday and thought it was great. The staff were friendly, the place not too packed. It has a nice 2nd floor outdoor area - which personally would be awesome if you could actually smoke there but then again im a smoker and im sure the non-smokers love it (as do my lungs). They also let me order a kids meal (spaghetti) as I was feeling peckish and it was rather filling (will upload pic). The desserts when you walk in are also rather tasty looking..

Yelp
The Blue Train is some where you can go and know that you will get a good meal, for a good price, in good atmosphere. If you're not in a group and you're keen on getting fast service in the heart of the action then stick to the bar. Forget waiting for a table, no need to put your name on the list, just point to the bar, find your stool and order away. Sit amongst the buzz, enjoy a beer and have your food brought to you in record time. The menu is reliably good with the favourites always there and the specials to treat you with something new. Prices are fair and service is good. The Blue Train is no secret and always popular. If you have a group be sure to give yourself plenty of time. There's often a wait for a table but turn around is quick and you'll be seated without too much dawdling.

Yelp
I have taken students here before the theatre for years. It's usually pretty good for a quick and easy meal. Tonight one student had chewing gum in his food. The restaurant tried to convince us it was cheese and charge us for it! It was literally chewed up, spearmint flavoured, chewy. Grossest experience ever. Luckily I convinced them not to charge but it wasn't easy.

Yelp
Blue Train is a super-reliable option for a boozy work lunch-break or a low-key dinner with friends. The menu is extensive and provides a range of small; and large meals, plus really good pizzas. BT is aimed at a fairly young crowd and as such is service is basically in line with the price point; no nonsense and generally efficient. If there is room, try to squeeze onto the balcony, where you will get a great view of the Yarra River and the south side of Flinders Street station. Food wise I recommend sampling the sweet potato chips- delish. The cakes here are decadent to look at but I haven't sampled any- it's definitely on my to-do list though!

Yelp
Can be a little hit and miss for coffee... Depends on who is working the machine on what day... But for the price you really can't complain as it's probably the only large coffee left in Melbourne under $4... Always fairly busy though and a great selection of nibbles and treats...

Scott A.

Yelp
This place used to do really great food!! Had the burger and it was terrible!! The bun was old, meat pre/over cooked, bacon was cold and the chips where soggy!! The views of the river where great and service was quick and attentive!!

Nicole M.

Yelp
Since moving to their new location this restaurant has really turned things around. Bright, fresh and inviting lay out with consistent food. Good range of spirits too which makes this place a good choice for an after work drink. Fairly costly but what do you expect in a tourist district like Southbank.

Yelp
Great food; okay service Went to this restaurant with some friends who had eaten there previously, hearing that the food was excellent with a very quirky, Melbourne atmosphere. We arrived and were promptly seated after a busy waiter noticed us and ran over. So good so far. We sat at a table for six with a decent view of the river, the restaurant pace was relatively slowly and laid back with good music keeping things moving. Then the waiter approached us, while well presented physically, he didn't seem interested in the fact that we were customers and in a dismissive tone, reluctantly took our drinks order. As I am not familiar with the local craft beers, I asked what I should order or is a standout and while I received the information I wanted it was obvious that the waiter wanted to be elsewhere. When it came to ordering food I ordered the grilled chicken salad with my friends ordering the tomato and basil pizza. Both meals were made swiftly and in a few minutes I was chowing down on a delicious, fresh, summer feel salad. In the end it is an excellent restaurant with great food at an affordable price, unfortunately let down by some staff members

Matthew R.

Yelp
Went in here for a quick bite to heat and left pleasantly surprised. Cannot comment too much on the food as we only had three share plates for two people. These included dumplings, seated tuna and meatballs all of which were very tasty and well presented. Friendly staff and what seems like a child friendly environment.

Shelly S.

Yelp
Outrageously priced because the view is spectacular!! $9 for a Corona; $28 for a burger; $30 for pasta!!!

Leisha T.

Yelp
Popped in here for a coffee after a few hours walking around Melbourne. Service was pretty quick and no fuss. Ended up ordering a piece of cake too as they looked so good! Cake was delicious banana and caramel slice! Coffee was nice as well. The meals around us looked pretty good and decent size. Location is great, would definitely come back. Good choice of basic beers too.

Miriam S.

Yelp
Their Tandoor chicken is rather good, considering I'm not a huge fan of Tandoori chicken to begin with. All the cakes here are truly amazing, just eenie meenie miny moe, and whatever you get will curl your toes.

Yelp
Rock in at 1145pm, grab a window table, a beer and a pizza. Overall a good experience, but the pizza base was cooked before the toppings were added. I liked the old blue train, that place had character, incredible food and an amazing atmosphere

N V.

Yelp
We sat there for 40 minutes not even getting our drinks before they revealed they lost our order.

Mark H.

Yelp
Menu heavily advertised as gluten free. After arriving we found out the gluten free options weren't suitable for people with celiac. Disclaimers such as "may contain traces of gluten" weren't anywhere on the menu and this would've made a huge difference. If we had seen this disclaimer on the online menu, we wouldn't have booked. I know they're tapping into this 'low gluten/gluten free' trend however they're misleading people with serious gluten allergies such as celiac. Staff mentioned customers have made numerous complaints about this. Sauce ingredients were pre-packaged store bought, not made from scratch in-house, not really good enough for the prices they were charging. Staff did their best given the circumstances. Unfortunately won't be going back.

Yelp
We had lunch and breakfast the following day. We have been coming here for years and always do when in south bank. We have never been disappointed and always leave wondering when we will be able to come back. If your sharing a meal as my wife and I always do, order the eggplant chips. It has a great atmosphere with friendly staff, a great range of food and drink at a reasonable price for the area.

Geoff M.

Yelp
Just back from an enjoyable breakfast with local friends. We are visiting from the Sunshine Coast and apart from the location this place is average. I had the Spanish eggs which were very good but my wife's eggs and Rosti was spoilt because the used has browns in place of potato rosti, big short cut big fail. Service was friendly but slow on a Sunday morning which was not too busy. The Spanish eggs are the only return drawcard.

Yelp
Went there today Sunday 15th March at 245pm with wife and bub. A nice gentleman sat us down. Wanted to order a burger and pizza. Waited 15 minutes and waved to at least 2 blonde waitresses who walked past our table. They did not even bother to stop and take our orders. They were not busy and there were hardly any customers there. They just walked around not really doing anything. My wife tried to get their attention again but they still ignored us. We are asians by the way. We felt discriminated by the waitresses. So after 20 mins of sitting down with no service, we left. Are the waitresses racist or just plain lazy or just plain rude to ignore our attempts to get some service? Pardon my f@cking French but if I am the boss of the place, I would sack the lot, especially the rude waitresses. I will ensure that none of my networks ever set foot in a Blue Train restaurant ever. What lousy racist and discriminative service standards. We tried to get the attention of 3 waitresses but they just completely ignored us. No one even knew left the restaurant! That is a seriously crappy place to dine. Avoid at all costs!
