7 Adventurous Things to Do in Anchorage, Alaska | Condé Nast Traveler

"After Eklutna I crashed hard in a modern, well-lit chalet at Bluewater Basecamp a few miles from the lake; co-owner Teal Sky Heller says they cater to people returning from extreme Alaskan adventures by offering rest and relaxation, and from the chalet you can sometimes see moose, grouse, occasional bears and coyotes—I saw a coyote there and even a scruffy English bulldog on the property." - Jason Nark

On Dec 31 we stayed at Bluewater Base Camp, in the Bashful Chalet. We are residents of Alaska and live in the valley, half an hour from Bluewater Base Camp. When we were looking for a place to celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary, we remembered that they were there and decided to go with them. From the moment we first contacted them we recognized that their customer service was exceptional. After booking we received a few emails with very good information at just the right time. There wasn’t a single question or any part of our stay where we “wondered” what to do, where they were or how anything worked. When we arrived the directions were perfect, from the drive there to the walk to our chalet. A very pleasant and unexpected “extra” was the wagon in the parking lot to help carry anything we might need to carry on the short distance to the chalet. The door unlocked exactly as they described, the chalet was just perfect. From the view to the quality of every single item in the chalet, we were very pleased and very impressed. Every single appliance, amenity, and item was just perfect. They obviously put a lot of thought and effort into their guests stay while in their chalets. I would highly recommend anyone considering a few nights away or if you have relatives coming to Alaska, to book with Bluewater Base Camp.

I stayed last week at BlueWater BaseCamp and I was so impressed. If you're looking to truly disconnect in a beautiful environment in a cute cabin, THIS IS THE PLACE! I loved the fire pits, the new sauna and my cabin was a small one fit for 2 people. I also got to see the family cabins and they're great for groups! I love that I had my own little kitchenette and fridge. The heaters worked super quickly and my favorite part was the staff plus Esmeralda and Ranger (the cutest dogs you'll ever see). If you're considering staying here, stop thinking about it and book!

A Healing Retreat Beyond 5 Stars 🌲 We stayed at BlueWater BaseCamp for two nights—just my significant other, our two sons, and our dog Gremlin—and it was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we felt embraced by the peace and quiet of the surroundings. Gremlin instantly bonded with Esmerelda (one of the sweetest dogs we've ever met), Ranger is awesome too and even our 13-year-old—who’s usually glued to his phone—was impressed by the fast Wi-Fi. For us adults, the campfire and sauna were pure bliss. There’s something about sitting on the porch, wrapped in warmth, that makes you forget the noise of everyday life. I genuinely felt like I could’ve stayed forever. It stirred something deep in me—a reminder of how much I long to live outside the city, surrounded by nature and stillness. This place isn’t just a getaway. It’s a motivator. A sanctuary. A reset button. We’re already planning to return, and I’m seriously considering a membership. BlueWater BaseCamp isn’t just five stars—it’s a healing retreat that nourishes the soul.

Blue Water Basecamp was, quite honestly, perfection. Staying here was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Alaska. Pepper Peak was the perfect size for two people. Clean, warm, and beautifully built, it had everything we needed while still feeling close to nature. You can tell the owners thought of everything, from the layout to the little details inside, and it all came together to make our stay feel absolutely perfect. Thank you so very much for your kind hospitality!

My sister and I spent 3 days here this last week and had an amazing time. We stayed in the Hideaway Cabin and it was perfect for two people - the cabin has a bigger fridge and a stovetop! ( no full size oven ) so perfect for bringing some groceries. It was really easy to get to different places in the area and it was so peaceful. We will be back for sure! The WiFi was strong and the listing says no cell service but we had service on most of the way into the area (T-Mobile) 😊

The space was white clove clean, efficient space with aessessibility for those who have mobility limitation. We had all that we needed, we were close enough to the city while still having the pleasure of staying in the woods. The owner were helpful with connecting us to cruises and for confirming directions. This will definitely be a place I stay the next time I travel to alaska!!

Wow! What amazingly quaint and wonderful cabins. Rustic on the outside, super clean and modern on the inside (literally the best bathroom I’ve experienced in Alaska). The area is full of birch trees and our cabin had a small deck we could sip on coffee and look out onto a meadow. Had all amenities and was magic to wake up in them!! Hosts communicated quickly and kindly. Couldn’t be happier with our choice of accomodation. Lake is a few miles away tucked away in the valley, so only a 5min drive. :)

I rented the Mitre cabin. It was very nice. Everything was so clean and new. I really enjoyed my stay at this beautiful resort. The staff was so helpful and friendly. Jackie came to my cabin and informed me about my daughter 's call so I could call her back. I really appreciate her help. My wife and my daughter felt so relieved. You don't have to stay in a tent to enjoy the nature. This facility is 5 minutes from the Eklutna lake. I strongly recommend this place when you visit Alaska.
