Mixed Experience: Attentive Staff, But Safety & Pricing Need Clarity
We recently visited the island for a day trip. Our experience was mixed, highlighted by excellent customer service but marred by safety concerns and confusion over the included amenities.
The Positives
The staff provided a genuinely warm welcome upon our arrival and departure, which was sincerely appreciated.
The day visit package cost P2,000 per person, which included boat transfer, a towel, mask, snorkel, and a plated a la carte lunch with main course choices. The boat ride was enjoyable, and we felt secure thanks to the attentive crew member who actively watched over the passengers.
On a side note, I spent some time voluntarily clearing plastic debris (shampoo sachets, cups, biscuit lids, and wood) from the shoreline, which seemed to be residue from the recent storm, Tino. While I didn't mind helping the environment, future guests should be aware that the beach may require some personal cleanup.
Areas for Improvement
Safety and Equipment Fees:
This was the most significant issue. The waves were quite strong, and unfortunately, I was knocked down, resulting in scraped legs from the coral. The staff were attentive and immediately cleaned and treated my wound, providing a life vest.
However, swimming shoes were necessary for safety but were not provided initially. Following the injury, I was charged P200 for a pair of old, worn-out swimming shoes. This charge was frustrating as the P2,000 package already included a mask, snorkel, and towel—none of which I used. Given the safety risk posed by the coral, essential footwear should either be mandatory and included in the package, or clearly available without an unexpected fee, especially after an accident.
Limited Amenities:
A minor disappointment was the limited access to the pool. Day visitors are restricted from using the pool until 12 PM, which significantly reduced the time available to enjoy that amenity.
Summary
The island offers friendly service and a pleasant boat ride. However, we strongly recommend that management re-evaluate the provision of safety equipment (like swim shoes), ensure transparent pricing for all rentals, and clearly communicate the pool's restricted hours to day visitors.
We appreciate the prompt attention given to the injury, but better preventative safety measures and clearer package inclusions would significantly improve the overall visitor experience.
