Came section hiking through Hot Springs, NC a few weeks back and stopped into this true backpackers/river adventures/cartgraphers/ souvenirs gem! It literally has something for everyone who is an outdoor enthusiast. The owner, Wayne, is delightful to chat with, and his team is friendly and knowledgeable about all your outdoor needs. This small business has been around for 26 years, and for good reason! Don't even think about it. If you're in or near Hot Springs, you should stop and shop. Happy Trails or Rapids people!

Went in here to pick some supplies for running the trail. I was pleasantly surprised with the plethora of items that is necessary for hiking the AT. The staff was very knowledgeable about the area and the supplies. I was able to find very specific pieces I was looking for that is going to make the rest of my trip easier. I highly recommend paying a visit to the good people of bluff mountain outfitters!!

Google
This store has an awesome selection hiking supplies. They also have lots of clever hot springs souvenir shirts. Super friendly and always well stocked. Prices seem to be fair as well. A hiking supply store literally on at AT. How cool.

Everything you could need for outdoor adventure. I'm sure paddlers and through hikers find this a great place to restock. Great gear and a friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Yelp
Staff was amazing. Store was impeccable. Items were mostly reasonably priced and high quality. There is something for everyone's price range. We bought women's shirt, two hats, bug spray and a few other trinkets. Tried to get hubby and son to purchase/wear 'fish croc' type shoes, but they declined. Asked for the strongest bug spray and was given it. Was also advised that this particular will melt plastic so don't use where it may cause damage. Whoa.... we ended up getting the next level down. Definitely check them out.

Yelp
OUTSTANDING outfitter store, including sensible hiking shoes, practical and economical hiking clothing, and gear, plus fun, casual clothing & accessories Well-informed staff used to helping hikers, white water enthusiasts, as well as locals and visitors. The most practical and complete outfitter in the region because it sits right on the Appalachian Trail and serves through hiker's needs.

Yelp
This is a nicely curated collection of outdoor clothing, snacks, and souvenirs. If you enjoy hiking gear, this is worth a stop. It isn't a huge place and you won't find a huge selection like at REI. But, I liked the t-shirts and shoes. I rarely buy t-shirts because most aren't that unique. Here, I bought a long sleeved one that seemed softer/better than average. The bumper sticker collection is great. I'd stop in just for that!! It was like all the stuff you'd see on the back of a hippy car. You know, the usual "Coexist" and vegan ones. But, also, a sticker in the shape of a giant piece of bacon. Others are humorous and just plain wrong. I liked that. But, not enough to put one on my car. I enjoy having a sticker-free ride. Overall: Check this place out if you wander through Hot Springs.

Yelp
Largest selection of outdoor clothing and shoes that I've ever seen in one place. Don't miss it.

Yelp
Not your full blown REI or Gander Mountain, but it's a definite must stop resupply while passing through Hot Springs.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I went on a 5 day hiking trip this past week (may 2017) ending in Hot Springs NC and stopped by this outfitter in town. I was excited to see it though I am not a thru hiker (yet :) but had read about it in several Appalachian Trail books. I was stoked to look at all the gear choices available. Since the AT passes directly in front of this store people often switch and upgrade gear here and I was interested to see what they had stocked for it's durability/weight etc. In short, I was nerding the f@#$ out on their gear. The store is cozy and they have a wide variety of gifts; shirts, white blaze stickers, funky little lighters. I bought myself a Hot Springs hoodie and got my card magic loving fiancé some cool plastic coated playing cards. They also stock popular hiking foods and many books about the AT, hiking and general outdoor enthusiast interests. I have my eye on a necklace there I'd like to get, once I complete the full length of the AT. Several reviews report a rude staff and I did not find that to be the case at all. I went in two days in a row and two people there asked me if i wanted help then left me alone to look around, which is what I prefer. These guys aren't going to kiss your ass, so I think their taciturn nature is being misconstrued as rudeness. I like no nonsense straight forward info so maybe I'm biased. I saw in other reviews that people thought their pricing was high for some items. This is an independently owned, small business in a very small, fairly isolated town-you're not going to get Walmart pricing here. I read many post cards on the wall from people who'd made it to Mount Katahdin thanking them for fixing something for free, suggesting a new item or being helpful in general when they were in need and those far outnumber these Yelp reviews. Place is awesome. Go check it out! :) ~Zoe

Yelp
This place is a solid find for anyone seeking camping, hiking or outdoor gear on the Appalacian Trail. The selection is great, particularly for the small footprint of the store. There is also a good selection of grocery goods and books. Don't expect to find bargains here, but you will most likely find what you need. The staff was very helpful and even provide maps of the hiking trails in the area for free.

Yelp
Great for mail drops, staff seemed a little bit jaded. Pretty pricey on everything, wouldn't buy any gear or food here - stick to the Dollar General or the Hill Billy market. Was asking for the shuttle schedule to see if we could possibly change our shuttle and Dan was pretty rude. The shuttle was on time and everything, and Dan was more agreeable when we were riding with him, but I was just a little put off by his attitude.

Yelp
Walked through the store today. Have a full selection of camping and hiking gear. They have grocery items, which in my opinion, are overpriced. The staff is helpful and friendly. If you are in the App Trail and need some gear, be sure to make a stop here.

Yelp
Bluff Mountain is a nice outfitter in a great trail town. The store is well-stocked and they have a fair amount of great brands. Prices are a little steep but not much more so than most outfitters. The one thing that struck me negatively about this store is the management. We had a very negative experience with the store owner. Being a couple of AT thru-hikers, we expected to be treated with some dignity (which the rest of the staff did). The manager/owner on the other hand accused us of stealing a tree book. After asking to search through our stuff and even showing him where the tree book was (on its shelf), he still did not apologize. This guys is a real jerk. Because of this experience, I have never been back to this outfitter. If it weren't a decent store, this review would have been completely negative. Check this store out if you have to, but stay away from the manager at all costs.

Yelp
There was a time before Amazon when places like these were easy to find in almost every mountain town in the United States. Walking into this store felt good. Yes, you are not going to get Walmart prices but what you will get are folk who actually use the gear and live the lifestyle. It was a real treat for my wife and I to visit this store and the town. Bought some stuff and went for an easy hike. No Walmart in sight thank God!

Yelp
Bluff Mountain is a large and fairly comprehensive outfitter, with friendly staff. As well as standard equipment - coats and gloves, sleeping bags and liners, footwear, tents - they have a book and a food area; and a map room upstairs.

Yelp
One of the best outfitters on the Appalachian Trail area. These guys know their stuff and the trail. It is a regular stop for through hikers going through the NC portion of the AT. Merchandise and advice is professional and serious, not the frou-frou stuff for the average tourist.

Brian M.

Yelp
My son was thru hiking the AT and bought a pair of Salumans trail runners at this store 6-6-2018 they wore out and got holes in them with in 200 miles, all I needed from them was a copy of the receipt (for Salumans to honor the warranty)because obviously he didn't carry the receipt with him on a 2200 mile hike. they could not provide a receipt .Very unprofessional I thought buy you shoes somewhere else!!!

Yelp
Excellent Gear store, way away from the big City and big city attitudes , besides Hiking Gear and Gear for other reasons great book selection, Food is better than the junk at big box store down the street, good selection of gifts. Clothing, as well as some kick ass coffee, good snacks that are healthy, as well as some normal candy bars, any one who says food overpriced are just cheapskates, I know the snickers are cheapest in town, The Staff are Friendly and Knowledgeable, always willing to help, they are very tolerant of Jaded tourists and askholes, in fact patient and very willing to give good direction. They have even been known to help find lost people in the Forest.

Yelp
A Hot Springs institution! Fun place to browse a wide selection of outdoor gear. If you are lucky you will strike up an entertaining conversation with one of the owners.

Yelp
Super-friendly and knowledgable staff make this the place where I will buy gear to replace stuff that Trekker, my puppy, has chewed to pieces. I hope she gets past gnawing anything Vasque or North Face soon, because I've got my eye on some sweet low-weight must-haves. In the meantime, I'll be making another visit to buy gifts for my grandkids and explore the edibles. Trekker is counting on some yummy doggy treats and looking for a nifty doggy bowl, too.

Yelp
This store is up in the mountains located on the Appalachian Trail, If it's not in tis store you probably did not need it. from Camping and hiking Gear to Food and Drinks to Books and Toys, They are 39 miles from any big town so it is amazing that they carry all these goods, it must cost them to get the goods into the town, the staff are friendly and professional, with a great since of humor .. I read some negative comments here but they must be big city people with no perspective of where they are when way out here in the Mountains, it is the place to stop if your on the Appalachian trail or kayaking or Mountain Biking in Madison County, NC
