Note: review based on visits in December 2022, so yes, it's been two years, but I've finally got around to finishing and posting this!
Discovered this fantastic bakery thanks to Yelp and Google. Our accommodations were not far from here and we found BO&MIE to be just a short walk! It was raining, but that certainly did not stop the line of people forming outside this boulangerie. Thankfully the wait was not long. The wonderful smells escaping from the ovens in the back was enough to make me want to order one of everything, but alas we had to save room in our stomach for lunch. Nearly every seat was filled with guests enjoying pastries and/or a beverage. The raspberry croissant appears to be the best-seller, but we wanted some of the more savory stuff. We also got lucky that one of the tables cleared up so that we could enjoy our goodies on the premise.
The good:
+ Creative twist on some traditional favorites
+ The quiches and soup are delicious
+ Indoor and outdoor seating available
+ Locations: 5 bakeries in Paris, one in Aix-en-Provence and one in Barcelona (with plans to further expand in France and internationally, like Saudi Arabia)
+ Free Wi-Fi which is always nice
+ Bakery appears more like a trendy cafe with the modern aesthetics and chill/pop music
The so-so:
- Two prices, which is clearly indicated on each item's name card, but "sur place" means to dine on the spot and that would cost an additional 20 - 50 euros per item depending on what you're ordering to eat inside.
- Some of the staff speaks English and are focused on efficiency, so advice is to know what you want.
The food:
*Soup of the day - sweet potato and onion puree with coconut milk. If you like butternut squash soup, then you must try this other comforting combination. Absolutely perfect for a cold and rainy day.
*Quiches: Salmon Spinach and Curry Leek. Why don't we have these flavors in the US?! Positively divine. It was so unforgettably yummy that we ordered these again to take out on a separate day. Definitely a favorite that we would love to come back to again in the future.
*Croissant - went with the regular one was not disappointed. This was very flaky and fresh. I'm not a croissant girl, but this was quite good.
*Noisette - this is their small, but it's more tiny than I imagined when received. Turns out it was the perfect little cup of hazelnut coffee, especially since one should be drinking coffee in moderation.
*Chocolate Praline Cookie - this was a very dense, heavy cookie and sadly looked/sounded better than it tasted. Much more dry than we would have liked. Had a hard time finishing it.
Fun facts:
~ BO&MIE came out with a recipe book in the fall of 2022, but it's only available in French.
~ This bakery is actually their first location and perhaps that also explained why it was so busy and filled with tourists.
