Boardwalk Social by Crystalbrook

I recently visited Boardwalk Social by Crystal in Cairns. While the food itself was satisfactory, the overall service fell well short of what I would expect from an establishment positioning itself as five-star. At a venue of this calibre, I would have assumed table service would be standard. However, even with the requirement to order via QR code or at the bar, I expected a higher level of customer care. Unfortunately, the service was very ordinary. When ordering drinks for a group of seven, I was not offered a tray, nor any assistance carrying the drinks to our table, which was located along the footpath some distance from the bar. This resulted in multiple trips, while staff remained behind the bar, visibly checking their phones rather than offering help. It’s not about expecting over-the-top service, but rather basic hospitality and attentiveness. A small gesture—such as providing a tray or offering assistance—would have made a significant difference. Overall, the customer service needs improvement for this venue to truly align with the standard and reputation it appears to be aiming for.

Disappointing Service and Inconsistent Pricing: I really wanted to like Boardwalk Social by Crystalbrook, but after two separate visits, I left feeling frustrated. While the location and the ocean view are undeniably beautiful, the management and service levels have a long way to go. I arrived on my first evening hoping for a classic fish and chips with a beer. I waited in line for 20 minutes while several people blatantly cut the queue. The staff didn't seem to care or intervene at all, which was incredibly frustrating. I eventually gave up and ate elsewhere. I decided to give it a second chance on a quieter day. I ordered the fish burger with chips ($25). For that price, I expected something special, but it was just "so-so"—nothing better than standard fast food. It also took a surprisingly long time to arrive despite the venue not being busy. This was the strangest part: I ordered a schooner of beer and paid $10. When I went back for another, I was charged $12. When I politely questioned the price difference, the staff member at the register was quite rude and "snapped" at me rather than explaining why. Despite the premium location, the atmosphere feels more like a hectic fast-food joint than a high-end social hub. Between the inconsistent pricing, the lackluster food, and the dismissive service, I can't say I’d recommend it. There are plenty of other spots in town where your business feels more valued. Great view, but that’s about it.

Relaxing vibes, cool breeze and the best Esplanade views. On the day we visited there was solo musician playing. He set the atmosphere with his chill background music. This is a great place to catch up with friends, to visit as a couple or to book a group event. We enjoyed the Crispy Chicken Karaage with our drinks. We'll be back sometime soon

Boardwalk Social in Cairns delivers on every level! The location is exceptional — classy, relaxed, and right by the water with a vibrant atmosphere. The food was delicious, and the beer selection was fantastic, especially for a craft ale lover like myself. Their range didn’t disappoint. What really made the visit memorable, though, was the outstanding service. Staff were warm, welcoming, and respectful from the moment we walked in. A special shoutout to the lovely lady who let our kids put their own sprinkles on their ice cream — they couldn’t stop talking about her all day. A great spot for both adults and families alike!

So 40$ beer included for that meal, I ordered grilled fish but it’s just defrost and heated, waiting too long for my beer with the excuse of has to settle down while the barman was serving other customers. Live music was low quality. Just scam, there are way more better places to eat and spend good time.

I keep coming back for the consistently delicious food and drinks! The live music adds a great touch, and the atmosphere is always amazing. I also love the wide variety of dishes on the menu — there’s always something new to enjoy.

This place is in a great position on the esplanade. We were having a roving night out - so entree at one place, main we had here then we went somewhere else for dessert. I ordered the Truffled mushroom pizza and my partner ordered something which they didn't have so he ended up with the daily special which was Two tacos and one margarita cocktail. He had the spiced cauliflower tacos. Hey I loved the pizza there was an ok amount of mushrooms on it - but could have had more in my opinion. If there was artichokes on there - I didn't find them. But it was ok and for the esplanade they aren't overly expensive. My partner thought the tacos were good but not fantastic. They have a decent wine list - so happy with that. I am a big fan of cash - so very disappointing to find it is cashless. I find this trend to be exceedingly annoying - cash is legal tender - especially as paying by card incurs fees - so think both should be catered for. So probably wouldn't go here again because of this. But if you don't care - then it is a great spot and very open and inviting.

Great location, just let down by the quality of food and poor waiters. Ordered oysters and a bottle of white, the staff opened the bottle and then told me the oysters were unavailable, so changed the order to sashimi, which may have been hirumasu kingfish but the staff couldn't tell me in any case. It was not "singing of the sea" shall we say, nor indeed, was the fish burger that followed, rather it spoke of a vat of oil. And the staff didn't arrange a refund for the price difference between the oysters and sashimi. That said, a decent Teusner shiraz did a fair bit to iron out the wrinkles
