I’m honestly sad to be writing this 2-star review. I never imagined I’d have anything less than praise for Bobby’s Hideaway, especially since every past visit has been met with consistently top-notch service and quality. But today was different, and not in a good way.
This was actually my first time ordering takeout from Bobby’s Hideaway, we usually dine in and always have a great experience. The only part that felt in line with their usual hospitality was when someone kindly brought my food out to me while I waited on the patio. That small gesture was appreciated, but unfortunately, it was the high point of the entire experience.
Before placing my order, I asked specifically about the fries, whether there was a noticeable difference between ordering them separately or adding them as a side to the wings. The server assured me it would be “just a little bit less.” I took that at face value, and honestly, I’m kicking myself now for not ordering the fries on their own.
When I got home and opened the box, I was shocked. The fries looked more like a garnish than an actual side, like a handful. It didn’t even come close to what I’ve come to expect from Bobby’s, especially since I always rave about how great their fries are.
Then came the wings. The sauce was on the side, which in itself isn’t a problem, except I was never given the choice. My daughter has ordered wings here before and was always asked if she preferred them tossed or on the side. Maybe takeout is handled differently than dine-in, but that’s exactly the kind of detail a server should clarify.
Working in customer service myself, I know the importance of offering options, asking the right questions, and guiding customers through decisions, especially when those small details can completely change the experience. That just didn’t happen today, and it left me feeling frustrated and disappointed.
And to top it off, when I opened the bag, I noticed the lid of the honey garlic sauce had come off. The container was warped, possibly from heat or condensation—and it was packed in a thin paper cup instead of the sturdier plastic container that the plum sauce for the chicken fingers came in. It was messy, and honestly, it felt careless.
I don’t know what’s happening. I’ve always trusted Bobby’s Hideaway to deliver, whether it’s their unforgettable fortune crust salmon or their perfectly golden fries. But today’s experience didn’t feel like them at all, and it’s disappointing to feel let down by a place I’ve trusted for so long. (May 19)
