Yelp
I just placed an order for two gallons of Maple Syrup from Bob's Sugar House in Maine. We fell in love with their syrup around 20 years ago, having purchased a decorative bottle of Amber grade. It struck us as being so pure and not so sweet as to overpower the maple flavor. So many syrups are so sweet that they can pass for corn syrup, while others are so bitter that you have to drink a quart of water after tasting it. Not Bob's.
We returned to Maine the next year and attempted to purchase more syrup, but the vendor didn't have any in stock. So we found out that he purchased from Bob's Sugar House. We did a little research (before the web) and located Bob's Sugar House, a little over an hour drive each way from our camp in Ellsworth. We were greeted by the friendliest folks when we arrived. We explained that we visit Maine each year from our Washington DC suburban home in Virginia, and that now that we fell in-love with their syrup, we were going to add the annual pilgrimage to Dover-Foxcroft, so that we can bring a few gallons of this nectar back home.
Well, as life got busier, we stopped making the 120 mile trip to shop for syrup, because Bob's Sugar House opened an internet store. So now we can purchase a couple of gallons every six months, and they ship it to Virginia. We miss visiting the store, but we'll get back there again. It's worth the trip.
Bob's Sugar House makes the best syrup! I highly recommend it. They sell their Maple Syrup in decorative glass bottles (great gift!), as well as metal tins and plastic bottles in sizes ranging from a half cup to one gallon. They also make maple candy that is out of this world!!!
So visit Bob's Sugar House online, before you forget. Or drive up to Maine, and take a tour to see how they make this delicious maple syrup.
