10 Best Restaurants in Buffalo, NY and What to Eat There - AFAR

"Bocce Club Pizza offers a Buffalo-style pizza with a softer crumb, focaccia-like undercarriage, and cup-and-char pepperoni. The pizza features hand-stretched dough, freshly made sauce, and 100 percent whole-milk Sorrento mozzarella." - Arthur Bovino

Let's start with this, it's a pizza place at an airport. The atmosphere isn't dirty, and they have self service grab and go which is great for an airport. Credit where credit is due. Staff was nice. I want to be clear, I don't think any staff did anything other than follow directions for making this communion wafer of a pizza. Now the pizza. The thing you came for. It's truly bad. I don't think there's any accounting for taste here. It's just blan. Blank, empty. Blanco, blanc. Think stack of tortillas smashed together in the center under the weight of a meteor, topped with a can of unseasoned tomato sauce they found in a bomb shelter with very little rust on the can, finished off with cheese that has only been heated enough for the string cheese tubes to just barely melt flat. Think dry, slow cooked pizza, in a bad way. If vanilla was a flavor of pizza, this would be a good entry for the blue ribbon. But not like French vanilla. Like whipped milk they labeled vanilla. Vanilla was in the room next door and only introduced themselves to the neighbor once. I would rather have day old heat lamp gas station pizza. I truly feel it was the worst pizza. Like remember Bjs Wholesale Club? They had a cafe you could get food at. They had a little microwaved personal pizza. Delicious compared to this. THE REAL problem is that this flipped over dough frisbee that got thrown into a dumpster full of toppings is what we have as a welcome to BUFFALO!? Santoras, La Nova, Picassos!, Pasquale's,Crosbys gas station even! A flippin Pizza Hut Express (if Buffalo area hadn't already out pizza'd the hut, hurrah!) Did I eat most of it? Yes. I'm getting on a plane and just spent 16 of my hard earned coinage on a toasted edible dinner plate made of four cheese sticks and the sauce that sticks to the sides of a spaghetti Os can. Did I enjoy it? 😲 I actually tried to unclick the 1 star. But don't take my word for it. I've never had Bocce pizza before so I hope this isn't a good representation. But I'm reluctant to try at this point.

I can’t really say much to the service or atmosphere - it’s an interesting concept where everything is touchless. However, that’s where the pros end. Now this is probably the worst pizza I’ve ever eaten in my life. I’m lucky enough to have paid $14 for a cheese, I can only imagine how ripped off others feel for paying more. I was in a rush and picked the fastest thing I could find but now I know I’d rather stay hungry than eat this pizza. My elementary school lunch ladies could make better than this. My jaws actually hurt from chewing so much. Please, check the reviews before you come here, this place is the one time I haven’t and dear lord I don’t know how they still have a spot in the airport concourse. Please avoid, I can guarantee even your kids that only eat chicken nuggets and mac n’ cheese would throw this in the trash with no remorse. I’ve traveled all over the world and eaten at different airport restaurants and I’ve never regretted something quite as much as this. Thumbs down.

Read the other one-star reviews which are dean-on accurate and pretty funny too. I would like to add that I’m very surprised that Bocce would let this operation exist with their name attached. I’m a fan of their pizza (I have a preference for the Bailey location) and this definitely is not using the same ingredients or process. It doesn’t come remotely close to what the real Bocce pizza is like. Hard pass on this one!

To me this place has fallen off the mark big time. Used to be my go to for great pizza. The last time I was there the l9cation was Bailey Ave, The pizza was dry and lacking flavor....

Located within the Buffalo international airport, you can grab yourself pizza from one of Buffalo's well known restaurants. Unlike the other locations, this pizza comes more of a fast food style. What I mean by that is this, you don't get fresh rolled out pizza dough. Here you get premade crust, that taste like a frozen pizza you get from your local grocery store. The cheese also taste cheaper than what I am use to. If I was to compare this pizza to something. It would be similar to the pizza I had in grammar school, but in a round pizza pie form. It's ok if you like that kind of pizza, but for the hefty price you pay. It's not worth it for me.

Google
Nothing bad to say about the service or atmosphere but this is one of the worst pizzas I have eaten. In no way does this represent Buffalo pizza. It's closer to school lunch pizza, but worse. The tasteless textureless dough, the generic boring sauce, the barely melted cheese, and the undercooked pepperoni. This place should be ashamed of what they are serving and how much they are charging for it! Do yourself a favor and make some time before or after the airport to find any real family owned pizza place in town and go there instead.

Google
I’m only reviewing here as they do not sell slices. You have to order a minimum 10 “ pie that is sitting in a box you can’t see. After I walked away after being told no slices I watched 5 more people walk up and leave to buy Tim Hortons or a burger next door. I love Bocce Pizza but this doesn’t seem to measure up to their standards.

Ugh...I should have checked out the reviews of this place before I went. Honestly the pepperoni pizza was maybe on par with the elementary school pizza. The sauce was lacked any real flavor, the cheese was just okay, but the worst part was the crust. I can't even put in words the level mediocrity this pizza claims to be. So, just avoid it and stop by Tim Hortons instead and get a doughnut. Sorry no pictures. Threw it away after the first slice.

Yelp
This is not true Bocce Club Pizza. This is gas station pizza, at best. It's kept under a warming light which makes it dry and hard. What a let down. $19 for gas station quality pizza

Yelp
This is not a review, it's a warning, if you grew up with Bocces on Bailey Ave, if you live in NYC and still say Bocces is still the best, if you've eaten pizza all over Italy and still say Bocces on Bailey is the best , DO NOT get Bocce at the Buffalo AirPort, I AM SCARRED FOR LIFE!! Nothing else to say, one slice and I left it on the table for them to throw out. Even the self checkout with no humans in sight is a turnoff, weird, like the Twilight Zone, I am so mad!! scarred for life!

Yelp
No stars I've had Bocces Pizza and this is not at all representative of the quality or taste of the restaurant version. Burnt premade self service with the worker averting your gaze with an ask me no questions I'll tell you no lies expression. Ambiance all you could hope for at the airport.

Yelp
Not the friendliest service. The staff here are pretty quiet. I ordered a 10" pepperoni pizza ($16) and they made it fresh and cooked it in the oven. The whole process probably took around 20 minutes. It came out piping hot and they put it in the box. They have no carrying bag for the box so you awkwardly must carry the box in your hand as you board the plane. The pizza itself has a lot of outside crust and tastes nothing like "Bocce Club" pizza. It's super thin with a cracker like crust, chewy in the middle and crunchy on the ends. Think cardboard. No thanks.

Yelp
If you want the worst pizza in your life, might I suggest stopping by Bocce Club Pizza at the Buffalo Niagara Airport. You'll be blessed with some stale cheese pizza, or if you're really adventurous, might I suggest a fresh pile of garbage from the specialty menu. And who doesn't even have sausage??? Bleghhhhhh

Yelp
Worst pizza ever! Such a let down as it was NOTHING like real Bocce pizza! The Bocce Club organization should be ashamed of themselves for attaching their good name to this poor quality food.

Hank K.

Yelp
10:45 clerk refused to make a sandwich for me to take on board my flight Food is not available on the plane Terrible service for an airport restaurant! I love the neighborhood bocce club What a letdown

Robyn A.

Yelp
If the restaurant is called Bocce's and it is the same company as the original on Bailey ave. This should be the same pizza. The airport restaurant is not anything g similar. They need to fix this now.

Genevieve T.

Yelp
Horrible, stale food! It seems like the pizza was premade in the morning and left out until 4 PM--without even being reheated. The quality was terrible, and I strongly recommend spending your money elsewhere.

Zahra B.

Yelp
WORST PIZZA EVER!!! Overpriced and tastes HORRIBLE. Even cardboard would taste better than this pizza.

Robert S.

Yelp
So this pizza definitely seems like Buffalo-style pizza. It has a thickish chewy crust with a large rounded crust edge. The pepperoni is on top the cheese which allows it to be more chewy or crispy depending on how well done it is. The cheese is stringy and mild in flavor and is smooth. The sauce is very bland and has a consistency similar to tomato paste rather than sauce as it's on the thick side. It's definitely worth trying to see if it's good enough to be a repeat. The pizza's were pre-made at the airport location and in a heated glass case. The temperature could have been a bit hotter but it was still good as is. The service was quick and friendly and the location appeared to be very clean.
