Jen Doll’s Grub Street Diet

"A bagel shop she relies on for a perfected egg sandwich; she used a sesame bagel from here to make an egg sandwich with arugula, garden herbs, and American cheese, and appreciates the shop’s playful Bill & Ted references as much as its bagels." - Chris Crowley

Google
A cozy restaurant with friendly service, delicious breakfast sandwiches and pastries, and good coffee. It's a great place to stop by when you're passing through.

Went in to get some bagels for home, and decided to get a Bacon Egg and Cheese on everything bagel. They microwave the eggs... the bagels resemble pretzels. I couldn't finish it because the microwaved eggs. Staff seemed fine and nice, but they have to at least get a electric skillet for the eggs, air fryer for the bacon, and toaster oven for the sandwich to melt the cheese. Maybe get chafing dishes to hold cooked food to keep up with any rush they may have so they can quickly assemble sandwiches.

Google
Great bagels and coffee and pastries but also the KINDEST, most lovely people. I left my wallet there and they held onto it for me til I came back. On my 2nd visit to retrieve the wallet:), I got to chat with everyone and they are just the best people ever. Highly recommend the food and atmosphere and owners. Parking is also pretty easy fyi:)

Google
A Stone Ridge classic. Most people stop for bagels and coffee, which are delicious. However, I often find myself often stopping in to get the falafel sandwich for lunch. Always perks me up and I feel so good after eating it. Great service, just take a couple minutes to prepare. It has a small seating area inside and a small round table outside. Great vibes here.

This is my first time writing a review for any establishment because I was disgusted. I stopped by here with my girlfriend because I’ve had good bagels here in the past, but not in a long time (about two years since my last visit). I understand that arriving close to closing time can be an inconvenience. However, all I wanted to do was grab some bagels to go and they still had a half hour till closing time and we were the only ones in there. So as we were selecting our half dozen assortment to go, it was apparent that the lady behind the counter was becoming impatient as she kept shaking her head and rolling her eyes impatiently. I noticed a distinct smell of cigar/tobacco when we first walked in and didn’t think too much of it at first. We then asked for a cupcake that my girlfriend was excited to try (lemon lavender) as we completed our order and left. After getting down the road and ready to try our cupcake, my girlfriend licked the frosting upon which she immediately gagged. I took the cupcake and noticed that it REEKED of cigar/tobacco! I immediately wanted to gag! Upon further inspection we noticed little black specks all in the frosting (attached picture) For the record I am no stranger to this kind of aroma, in fact I don’t mind it; as long as it’s not in our freaking food! I will never come back here again. And as I sit here writing this review I find myself getting further irritated at the impatience that I received. I get that you want to pack up and leave, but you still got a half hour till your posted closing time and it’s not like we asked for a sandwich or for anything cooked. When I order food I’m always polite no matter how bad of a day the staff seem to have because I’ve been there before. I even left a tip which I regret.

Google
Good fresh bagels with plenty of cream cheese and lox. My Bodacious bagel was good but a touch salty with the pretzel salt on it.... still a very enjoyable bagel! Lots of choices and very friendly staff.

Google
Really really good bagels but their bagels are way too small. Super clean shop and nice staff.

Google
If u buy bagels from bordacious bagels in Manhattan and drive up to stone ridge that bagels are still hot big and fat.. i buy them here and there had as a rock by noon skinny and have a huge hole in the middle..how fresh are these?? Stop cutting corners to save money it shows.

Yelp
This must be a Brooklyn bagel shop! The bialys are the best great service highly recommended if you're in the area

Yelp
No frills bagel place in the heart of lil Stone Ridge. Counter service with a few tables. Ambiance gives antique circus memorabilia. Menu has both bagels and sandwiches, coffee and espresso drinks as well as fresh squeezed OJ and a big pastry case to chose from. The bagels themselves Id not describe as bodacious, more thin and crisp rather than big and juicy. Flavor was good and they did taste fresh on a Saturday. I've also tried the bean breakfast burrito which was fresh though bland and served cold. The fresh squeezed OJ stole the show for me! Prices are very reasonable.

Yelp
Food was good and staff was friendly and helpful. A few nice options for outdoor seating when the weather is nice.

Yelp
Blown away by the half-dozen everything (bodacious) bagels I bought this morning. Bought them to go, the people working there were lovely. Toasted 'em at home with some of their scallion cream cheese and I think we might probably eat them all in the next 24 hours. The size is perfect to me, having seen reviews about them being too small or something. Half of one will fit in your toaster but they aren't flat by any means. You don't have to unhinge your jaw to get a bite like some of the NYC institutions.

Jill B.

Yelp
They are consistent, it is family run, very fresh and easy to get in and out; Great bagels!
google avatar

Nick F.

Yelp
Surprisingly Good bagels. Not what I expected when out of the NY/LI area. A tasty, crispy crust and a perfect bagel consistency. Friendly service. I'm surprised at the negative reviews. We'll be back when in the area.

Yelp

Yelp
Not clean AT ALL. There was a tiny mite/bug crawling on my paper plate and the table was filthy. The whole place has a layer of grime. Roll was stale and tasteless, bagel overly salty, and weird textured microwave eggs. I like crispy bacon but this was just burnt. We won't be back!

Whit W.

Yelp
hands down the best bagels around - including Kingston and New Paltz. we've been coming for years and will continue.... Service is friendly and efficient. Ambience is small-cafe / homey. Stone Ridge is lucky to have this gem.

Yelp
Should have known by the dumb name these bagels would be terrible. Asked if any were hot out of the oven and was given a snarky "we make all our bagels fresh daily"I said that's not what I asked. And honestly the bagel I got I hope was two days old because it was a starchy hard as a rock dinner roll. They shouldn't be able to bastardize the word bagel. Mad I bought more than one. Through the other 5 out.

Ryan H.

Yelp
Bagels aren't that great I recommend sunrise bagels in Kingston so much fluffier and so much better

J S.

Yelp
I've come here many times and order a breakfast bagel, toasted. I get lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado and a choice of meat with egg. I find it delicious. If you're going to order one thing, order this. You can't go wrong
google avatar

Yelp
The bagels here are so awesome! We tried this place after our neighbor made a recommendation and it was truly bodacious. Half a dozen bodacious and sesame bagels for less than $6, plus tabbouleh, hummus and baba by the pound. Are u kidding me? My dream come true!!! I will be back again and again after my first experience here. The bagels were freshly baked - WARM and soft. I used to drive to Woodstock for bagels and I won't be doing that now that I've found this place!

Peyton J.

Yelp
Hard dry bagels, microwaved egg mixture, wannabe cheese, falafels like cardboard, chili...nah. Nice people but I finally gave up. So glad Big-e, a REAL deli and hot food place with REAL GOOD food, isn't far away. But it still sucks that Stone Ridge foodies have so little for far too much money to offer locals.
google avatar

Pinyo P.

Yelp
Not impressed. Bagels are subpar, they are okay but no where near expectations. They should just be named bagel shop, Bodacious Bagel boderlines false advertising... Had the chicken salad on a bagel special. I appreciate the quality of the chicken salad. Big chunks of chicken from what I can tell. I mean I only got 3 pieces of chicken and two of them was outside the bagel, in the hole. This is not the right kind of chicken salad to put in a bagel, there was one piece of chicken in the bagel! You need the consistency of a tuna salad for this to work. Why would you even put it on the special board‽ Staff was not friendly, not rude or anything. Was just like "I gotta be here what you want" feel.

L K.

Yelp
These are the best bagels around. More in the Montreal style than the big puffy typical bagels. Crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. I always find the staff friendly, even through the pandemic. Lucky to have them in the neighborhood!

Jan L.

Yelp
The bagels by themselves were fine and were made in a smaller flat Style vs the bigger chewy bagels found in the tri-state area. If that's what your into youll be satisfied. . DO NOT get a breakfast sandwich, in fact they should take it off the menu. If I wanted a microwaved egg I would have went to McDonald's, and geez, I think there was barely 1 piece of bacon, I couldn't even find it in the sandwich. im sure it's tough running a small business but while this place shines on the outside it is a little sad inside. The counter worker was as polite as necessary but you could tell she'd rather be anywhere else.

Yelp
Pretty bad. I am surprised that a bagel place in stone ridge could survive so long with such poor product. Most every place that serves bagels in Ulster country (including super markets) beats this place. Bad bagels and mediocre service. Stone ridge deserves better.

Ya R.

Yelp
The almond milk in my cappuccino was spoiled, the hard roll was stale and fell apart, the cherry turnover had no cherries in it and also was stale and fell apart. The worst part is, when I called to complain the woman was RUDE and acted like I was making it all up. She said when I come back she will give me a refund...why would I come back? Very disappointed in such a response to such an awful experience. Thanks but no thanks.
google avatar

Ralph P.

Yelp
Leaving now asked for a burrito they started making it with brown chopped lettuce.so I said please dont serve me that i can't eat it.The older woman owner said you have to take it.I said I can't eat that so she started making huffing puffing sounds and making comments.Obviously costumer dont have rights.Got sick here before so will not return, keep your eye on what they are putting in your food

Yelp
I have been getting bagels and coffee at Bodacious for years, they have always been great, always fresh, great coffee, friendly staff,,my choice for great bagels,,

Yelp
as someone who lives in kerhonkson, this is the closest (and only) bagel shop in a 40 minute radius. bodacious is a local business in our community, so i feel an allegiance to bodacious. their garlic bagel is my favorite! sometimes they don't toast it the way i like it, but i still love bodacious. if you aren't local to the community, maybe your feelings about bodacious wont be as loving as mine, but if you're visiting the area, have some respect for our only bagel place god damn it.

Yelp
Bodacious Bagels gets five stars for the simple fact that their bagels are fabulous. Period. As a dear friend of mine used to say, "Bagels today are like pregnant rolls." He was right. No matter where you go for bagels (including several notable bagel joints in NYC), they are these hideous mutations of dough. Not so at Bodacious Bagels. These bagels are slightly more dense and not chewy. The flavor is concentrated and not diffuse. These bagels are the real thing. The sandwiches and other items are OK, but get the bagels. I wish that Bodacious offered some nondairy cream cheese, but they are fine with me bringing my own. The coffee is excellent and the staff is always very nice, even on an early Sunday morning.

Ilya K.

Yelp
The bagels are not bad. Look, this isn't Ess-A. You're not in NYC. Just be grateful you can get a bagel that is basically the right consistency inside and out. But Jesus the holes are big. No clue why, it's like they made bagels from memory and the one thing they remembered is that there is a hole in the middle.

Yelp
For four years, I would see the sign "Bodacious Bagels" on my commute from school to home. These were always my thoughts: 1) bagels are never bodacious in upstate NY, 2) I should really stop and try these someday, since they're so "bodacious", 3) I don't have time to stop. So I didn't get around to trying them until after graduating college. Here's the thing-they were good. I wouldn't say bodacious, mostly because I only associate the adjective with things like surfing and the 90's, so it's not something I say often. But the bagels were good for being found in upstate New York. And to be honest, I'm pretty picky about my bagels so this is high praise from me. Cookies were also flavorful, but on the dry side. Go on in if you're looking for something quick and cheap!

Jen S.

Yelp
A turkey bagel sandwich, an egg bagel sandwich, a coffee and an Izzy soda for $11. A bargain. A cute, clean, straight-forward bagel place. The woman behind the counter was a brute, though. She treated me like I was a total idiot for not knowing that they call the everything bagel "the Bodacious bagel." Also, when they ask if you want ketchup, they don't mean they'll throw in a side of it, they mean they'll put it on your egg sandwich for you. Kinda weird.

Brendan L.

Yelp
Honestly disappointed. This place's main selling point is as its name states: Bagels! However these bagels are not very good. Within the first day of buying the bagels, we realized that the bagels were ridiculously hard, to the point that they were harder then normal stale bread. We had also ordered sandwiches, and the exact same issue came up. Therefore, one star.

Ocean K.

Yelp
Terrible food, they microwave all their eggs, the bakery always tastes like it's been sitting there for many days at a time. Even their "famous," falafels are dry and bad flavor. No idea how still in buisiness. Do not recommend, there are so many other places around here.
google avatar

Natty D.

Yelp
I really want to like this place but its just so overpriced and the quality is poor. Every time I've gone my bagel wasn't fresh, it was at least a day old and somewhat hard. Also the coffee is a huge rip off, don't get a cappuccino it will be luke warm, half foam and over $3 at the least

Dick C.

Yelp
Duck big I like food yum ssss . Very h my boy. Go there for bagle. Come out with 2 bagle. But ront duck anyone. Good bagle good
google avatar

Mary J.

Yelp
I always made a point of stopping here on the past as the bagels were good. My Recent stop here was very disappointing. The bagels were stale and the server was curt. Prices way too high. They did have a clean rest room though.

Kevin K.

Yelp
I've been going here for years, and I think it's just what you want in an upstate coffee shop: friendly, homey, low-key, and the food is good. I'm not going to try to claim the bagels are NYC caliber, but what is.

JS S.

Yelp
I've been to this establishment a few times and the bagels are ok, not terrible but not great. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese and the bacon was severely undercooked and rubbery and the eggs seemed far from fresh. In addition I was greeted with hostility by the employees. The food and quality was subpar
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
They are fabulous. I can't stand the fake bagels they make now a days, theirs are homemade and the real deal. Always friendly, it's a really wonderful place, I highly recommend it.
google avatar

V P.

Yelp
Bodacious bagels gets one star for very friendly staff but terrible food. I ordered a bagel with egg and cheese, and to my dismay, the egg was microwaved. The bagel was small and hard- not the usual fluffy, warm, and fresh New York bagel that one would expect. The bagel was almost stale. I would invest in a kitchen, and no more microwave!!!

Roxanne P.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were quite hungry looking for a nice little spot to grab a quick breakfast on the go. We thought breakfast sandwiches on a bagel would be the perfect fix. To our disappointment, what we received was awful. I got the ham egg and cheese on an everything bagel, which was one lousy sliver of ham, and microwaved eggs on a stale everything bagel. It's really not hard to mess up a breakfast sandwich but this place has mastered it. My boyfriend got a bacon egg and cheese which had only one slice of bacon (completely undercooked, rubbery), microwaved eggs and also on a stale sesame bagel. After we left, I was reading on Yelp how this place does not support law enforcement which makes me hate this place even more. Thumbs down.
google avatar

Willow A.

Yelp
Awesome Bagels and the best coffee in town, which no one has mentioned.

Anna A.

Yelp
There was nothing bodaciosu about the rude, off putting ladies working there nor their disinterestedly served bagels: cold, not fresh, some ham on the side, no frills, no garnish, sloppily served on quite dirty tables. We also bought a croissant and it was cold, straight from the freezer. Not to mention the omelet. let' just say the eggs were not fresh from the country but tasted like the kind that low chain hotel restaurants serve, ie from a box. Why would you open a bagel/sandwich place in a small town like this where reputation is everything and then not just be rude, but out right unpleasant. And why serve bad bagels? it is not difficult servering good bagels. really, it is not. And don't serve partly frozen food. How about a smile, a 'Hi, welcome, how are you? (Which you get everywhere else in Stoen Ridge, a super friendly place!). Instead we got glares and just an unwelcoming vibe all in all.
google avatar

Alexander I.

Yelp
I don't know what everyone's beef is about the place: I loved the bagel I had from here, and in fact, me and my mom made a point to bring some home. We stopped here on our way back to Northern NY from Sullivan County, and I have to stay I'm looking forward to the next time I'm here. I'm stumped because I don't think I received unfriendly service here.
google avatar

Nick H.

Yelp
Awesome bagels! Just what you would expect from the name. I stopped in while visiting family in the area. Standard bagel shop sandwiches, great chocolate chip cookies (nice and soft). My second time there, fresh bagels were about to come out and the staff let us know in case we wanted to wait.

Michael M.

Yelp
Great place for a quick bite! Bagels are delicious egg sandwich was thick and fluffy! Friendly hometown feel with baked goods. Yum!

Rachel P.

Yelp
This place should be 5 stars. We stopped in here on our way to Bethel Woods for a concert, but I'd come out this way just to come here. We ordered the falafel platter and falafel sandwich. The falafel was excellent. Lightly fried with a moist inside. On the platter, the baba ganoush was a standout. Very flavorful, thick and with a heavy garlic taste. I never pass up banana bread, so ordered that too and it was good.

Jake J.

Yelp
From commuting in and out of NYC I know what a good bagel is, and Bodacious bagels are pretty good. If you stop in the morning while they're still warm, you'll become a regular like me! Try the authentic Lox and cream cheese!

Brad G.

Yelp
Not a very community oriented establishment... Me and my wife tried to collect donations for our local fire department from the owner. She was very rude and gave a simple " I'm very swamped!" There were only two other people at the counter. So we went down the road to Dunkin' Donuts. I guess she's not into giving back to her community. I Will never set foot in the establishment EVER again!

Amanda H.

Yelp
Food is bland and service is mediocre too. Worst of all - they park the company truck in the one handicap spot on the property (the vehicle has no visible handicap tag or plates). It's bad enough to abuse that spot but to do it with a truck that has your business' name plastered all over it is just a slap in the face. Even if the person driving it does need the spot, what are customers with disabilities supposed to do when that vehicle is there all day?

Jeebus M.

Yelp
Food was average, nothing special. Woman at the counter treated me like an idiot for not knowing what was on the Falafel menu; which wasn't displayed. Person making the sandwiches seemed bored and blasé. Not going there again.

Stephen S.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Awesome bagels and bakery treats. Brooklyn ain't got nothing on Bodacious Bagels!!!
google avatar

Brad L.

Yelp
Long story short, this place just doesn't do the town justice. Biggest issue seems to be the attitude of the staff. The family who owns this place seems to go out of their way to make anyone who isn't a regular, uncomfortable. While others in the shop were greeted with a smile and by name, my family and I received an attitude on par with the idea that our being there, wanting food, was a giant inconvenience, to the point that my wife wanted to leave and just stop at the gas stations across the street for juice and trail mix. I'm not surprised to see on here, that the younger guy at the register was blatantly insulting the police force in front of customers. While ringing us up, he was nothing short of disrespectful, sighing loudly and rushing my wife to pay while she counted her money. There wasn't even anyone behind us. Our "fresh" bagels were cold and completely stale and hard by 915am, meaning they're NOT made fresh each morning. While we do frequent the Stone Ridge area from Kingston, we won't be stopping here again any time soon.

Tom P.

Yelp
So here's the thing... I'm sure bodacious bagels has decent specialty dishes like their raved-about falafel, I even had a couple decent experiences there in the past, but there's something dastardly afoot on that property. Indeed the service is pretty bad, the girl working there just seemed to be sick of telling customers that "the bodacious bagel IS the everything bagel," just a sort of impatient, unpleasant attitude. Now, my friends and I ordered a few breakfast sandwiches, sausage egg and cheeses, but we were horrified to find out that they.... Microwaved the eggs??? i mean.... that's just disrespectful to customers, really. eggs above anything, should be fried on a pan or a stovetop. their consistency was unpleasant and after that, we saw them proceed to microwave the CHeddar cheese which was supposed to accompany the sandwich, and pour the liquid, microwaved cheese on top of the sandwich. just, come on. the only thing bodacious about that place is the sign.
