On the Grid : Bodega

"Simply put, Bodega is the premier taqueria of Edinburgh. Possibly one of the UK’s very best. A rollercoaster of cuisines, from Mexican to Indian to Vietnamese, have all featured on the menu at one stage. Even the special British bacon sandwich inspired taco, at the time of writing. Locals will remember the original nearby venue fondly (now Lucky Yu). But this new, larger 2019 venue presents opportunities to showcase their fusion food to the Scottish capital on a grander scale. Order a frozen margarita, sample their delicious tacos and forget your problems. The baja cod, spicy buffalo chicken (or cauliflower) tacos are recommended - as are their churros." - fourcolourblack

Being a snobby Mexican food lover from Chicago, I had cautious optimism for Bodega....and let me say, it was pretty damn good! We walked away very happy and will definitely be going back. The bbq sea bass, black bean dip and fish tacos were delicious!

Oh....my.....god. Best Tacos in Edinburgh 👏 Each taco and dish was a beautiful little adventure. Big kudos to the kitchen and staff Waiters were absolutely lovely The restaurant has a very chill vibe and the drinks -oh wow, the drinks are fantastic, some of the best Margarita's we've had. Could rate this any higher. Remember this is right next to the tram line so easy to get to. Best bit, IT'S ALL GLUTEN FREE

Bodega is my go to for small plates and tasty cocktails in Leith. The cocktail menu is absolutely amazing, they offer some really creative versions of your regular classics but also some fun original combinations. What I love the most is that they also offer non-alcoholic cocktails with non-alcoholic alcohol and that makes for a really great experience, because at most places, mocktails are just juices, but not here. Vegan options are great, staff always helpful, prices very reasonable, and decor contemporary. If you are a spicy margarita lover, this is your spot in the city!!! 🌶️

Another fabulous meal at Bodega. The wings are potentially the best we’ve ever had and the flavours in all the sauces and seasonings are on point and delicious. The fish dishes need improvement would be my only feedback. But the meal overall, service, drinks and atmosphere are excellent. (I am coeliac and can confirm it is a safe gf eating venue) Thank you, team at Bodega!

We really enjoyed the food here and loved being able to eat anything off the menu as 3 out of 4 of us are gluten free. Some of the dishes were delicious, especially the chicken wings and fishes tacos. We would have given 5 stars but a couple of things let it down. We ordered a jug of margarita and were shocked that we got a full jug of ice with a small amount of liquid which made for a tiny glass each. The waitress told us that it equates to 80ml of liquid (not alcohol) each for £35. We all agreed that this was one of the biggest rip-offs we have experienced in a restaurant! Secondly, we arrived on time for our 7:30pm table and were told that it wasn’t ready so were asked to go for a drink up the street and come back. We didn’t mind too much and were told that no one would have the table after us so could stay as long as we liked. However when we came back we ordered a round of dishes and when we asked to order more at around 9:30pm we were told the kitchen was closed. The bill was expensive (£194 for 4 people) and felt like these issues detracted from the overall experience. I would like to come back here, but I’m not 100% convinced.

It's been a while since we visited Bodega and once again it didn't disappoint. Food always tastes better with great service and our waitress last night was excellent - friendly, welcoming and attentive (but not too much). The recommendation to choose 2-3 small dishes per person is spot on. Everything was delicious and we left with happy tummies. The apple cinnamon frozen margarita was always a good choice!

Beef brisket is a thing of beauty and the jalepeno margarita was delicious! Really cool atmosphere and friendly service. Tacos were not good. Tortillas were a bit dry and the fillings didn’t taste particularly fresh. The fish tacos were reallllly fishy. Which might be fine for some but I haven’t had fish tacos before that were that pungent and I was done after one bite. £35 was A LOT to pay for what I received. Good gets 2 stars for the beef brisket alone.
