A few weeks ago, my wife came back from a work lunch talking about a great tomato salad she had at Bodega Sapúlveda. The tomatoes were like the ones we used to eat when we were young... she almost was obsessed with that salad!
So a few days after that, while I was looking for a place to have lunch with a group of friends, she suggested we try it out again. You can imagine how high my expectations were!
We were 7 and, for some reason, Google maps wouldn't allow me to book for more than 6. So I wrote a comment that we would be 7 in the note field of the booking form. When we arrived, the note hadn't been transferred: technical issue, that can happen. Well, according to the manager there, I was lying and I had never put a note. 🤬 And apparently, accommodating 5 adults + 2 5-year-old, instead of 6 adults she thought we were, was hell for her. She repeated so many times! We felt so unwelcome that we almost left. 😡
Anyway, they ended up finding a table for us and we ordered lots of typical Spanish dishes and the famous salad. Apart from the white beans and the snails, which really were excellent, the rest was neutral... ALL the rest, including the tomatoes! 😤 (it's not me, my wife confirmed).
The service at the table was good in general, except they never changed our plates so we ended up eating blood sausage in tuna oil... 🥴
Well, I thought the service was ok until, a few minutes after leaving, I checked the bill and realized that they had charged us for 6 shares of pa amb tomàquet: €20 in total! Here's what happened at the table: the waiter offered bread to eat with the ham and we said yes. Then he came back and offered some more bread and we said yes again. I didn't ask for 6 shares!!!!! He should have asked because for €3+ per share, I would have never accepted it.
That simply is unacceptable. Such a bad experience! 😱
