"While exploring the storage cellars at Tío Pepe, one of the most prominent wineries in Jerez de la Frontera, you may come across a mouse or two imbibing a glass of the distiller’s renowned sherry as part of their daily indulgence. As the story goes, one of the winery workers had a soft spot for the often unwelcome cellar guests. He found it unfair that he could drink all the sherry he wanted while the mice could not. To rectify this, he built a little ladder leading up to a glass full of sherry. This way the mice could have their fill without him having to share his drink with the rodents. A second, not as fun story suggests the sherry was placed out for the mice to keep them from nibbling away at the Solera (on-the-ground) casks that are kept in the bodega, the area where the alcohol is aged and stored. The tradition continues and everyday a small glass of sherry is placed on the floor. A tiny ladder lets the mice access their boozy treat. People, too, have been enjoying the local sherry for years. The history of winemaking in the Iberian peninsula dates back to the Phoenicians. Jerez de la Frontera, a small Spanish city steeped in sherry culture, plays host to some of the most prominent sherry-making bodegas in the world. Know Before You Go Tours of the bodega can be booked in advance from the winery's website" - Jeremy D, aRedLetterLife

The tours are excellent, friendly helpful guides. Suggest buying the 4 wine tasting as it's worth the money. Our guide was amazing, however to be 5 stars they could reduce tour sizes (30 per group) so they could attend to the tasting better and be a bit less rushed.

I don't understand why some people have given such negative reviews. I suspect they are just grumpy folk with a short fuse. Our couple of hours were great. Started off with a little train ride (actually bus pulling mini wagons, but still cute) around the grounds (a huge plot they own in the centre of town next to the cathedral) (I have given 4* instead of 5* as I would have preferred to stroll around the wonderfully ornate gardens on my own, at my own pace, but this isn't an option thus remove 1*). Then a little walking tour through the old factory and storage rooms. Our guide was gentle and informative. Ending up with the tasting of 4 different sherries. I would recommend the max tasting package. For the extra €5 you get two extra glasses of sherry, well worth it IMHO. All in all, a great way to get gently pickled and taste some great drinks.

We visited Bodega Tio Pepe at the start of December and really enjoyed our trip here. We booked the 12:30 tour which was a lot quieter than the 16:30 slot. Our tour guide, María, was brilliant and provided us with lots of interesting information. She was so kind and fun and really made the experience for us. The sherry was also delicious! We would definitely visit again.

I would not even give this place 1 star, it’s not an option. We planned a day for the sherry triangle (or part of it) tasting, experience , knowledge,…. Excited for what we would learn . However, we started with Gonzalez Byass aka Teo Pepe We signed up for the English tour with the best sherry & tapa option There were a lot of folks for the tour so they spit it , the 1st guide seemed really pushy so we waited for the second They announced: ” we are waiting for a few to arrive that have reserved and then we will start.” I thought , why would you tell us that ?!!! Instead of “ we will began shortly” This should have been a red flag for what would be… I just don’t even know how to express enough that our tour guide should “never” be a tour guide!!! Or , even have a job where she deals with the public… ever!!!! We had the second English tour on 03 January 2024 I am pretty sure she was able to be assertively negative to each and everyone of us. I truly believe she hated us. Which made me hate this brand!!!! We finally get to the tasting and tapas I am excited because I had studied and learned how well sherry paired with food Not so It was so bad So disappointed We had set out for our day… …. our vacation, our time, our money, … To have an amazing experience and instead We were beat up We never went to another sherry bodega either We were done Chalk it up for the worst day of our vacation!!!! I highly recommend , if you are still interested in visiting a sherry bodega after reading this Do Not Visit González Byass / Teo Pepe!!!! No one should spend their vacation, their time, their money to be treated like we were treated ( on vacations we visit distilleries, wineries, breweries & other production tours known for the area. This Is by far the worst tour !)

Toured the bodega on 7th November 2022 with a group. Entry fee is about 18 euro but worth it if you are interested in learning more about sherry. We had a tour of the facilities with a good English speaking guide and finished off with a short tasting of a few of their sherries. Of the four offered for tasting there was only one (the extra dry) that didn't appeal to me. Several others thought the same. Quite an extensive set-up that handles weddings, receptions, etc. There is a gift shop and a hotel on site.

I failed to read the small print and thought that the more expensive tapas tour would include the same sherries as the cheaper tasting tour. My bad, only two sherries instead of four. In fact I only had one sherry and then a spritz concoction presumably aimed at the aperol market. The tapas was fine but the tour was nearly 30 euros and I thought I might actually get some tasting for that. The tour is heavy on marketing to the UK palate; I'd rather have seen some of the production process than a video about the owner. Perhaps, having been on some excellent beer brewery tours over the years, my expectations were too high.

We really enjoyed this tour. We’ve been in on lots of bodega tours and this is one of the best. It helps that it’s a really beautiful place. Tio Pepe have made their bodega a really special place. The tour guide ‘Agatha’ was exceptionally good. The shop as you would expect is very good. Overall I would really recommend this tour

Very nice tour through the Bodega, offered in Spanish, English and German. Our German guide was very nice and funny, explaining every detail of the brand and guiding us through the tour. A short movie about the history of the brand is also shown. At the end you get to taste the Sherry's offered depending on the ticket you bought. We enjoyed the tour very much.
