Bodysgallen Hall (Llandudno, UK) 2 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"There is no better setting for a cozy whodunit — Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple would have felt quite comfortable here. This 17th-century manor, set in 22 acres of fountains and climbing roses, is British hospitality to the extreme. Fireplaces crackle, footsteps tread softly on Persian carpets, and ancestral oil paintings take up every corner. Retire to the oak-paneled drawing room, help yourself to one of the novels in the 19th-century bookcase, and gaze out the diamond-paned windows. You can either elect to stay in the main house, or one of the cottages nearer to the spa, where marmalade tabby cats sometimes crawl into the windows to demand a saucer of cream. All rooms are, in contrast to the club-like appearance of the public spaces, designed with a Laura Ashley touch. Flowers and frills abound from rose-printed bed flounces to canopies and curtains. A bucket of umbrellas stands at the door, the ceilings are crisscrossed with wooden beams. Try to get a view of neighboring Conwy Castle — its forbidding stone facade and your own sweet surroundings provide a strangely satisfying contrast. This is a formal place, one-of-its-kind in Wales, and slightly incongruous with the wild and wooly countryside that birthed both Dylan Thomas and D.H. Lawrence. Even before you come in, doormen are bowing to you deeply. Sherry is the drink of choice, and pearls are de rigeur. Children under the age of eight are not allowed, and older children are closely monitored — for example, they are only allowed in the swimming pool for two hours a day. And no where is formality more evident than in the dining room. Dining at Bodysgallen is done in full evening attire. Even the food is grown up — rich and gamey, meats like venison and pheasant marvelously seasoned with wine sauces and herbs plucked from the garden. You can watch the chefs harvest them during the day, looking adorably plucky in their white uniforms against the wet, green landscape. It’s said that certain heads of state come here by helicopter just for a bite. Brush up on your knowledge of cutlery — there are more knives and forks than the Queen herself owns, and all are pure silver. Puzzled by a tiny filigree spoon three stops to the right? The immaculately polite waiter will cover for you. Unnerved? We love it. Especially with our own unpredictable lives and one fork in our drawer, there really is a no more appropriate holiday. How to get there: Bodysgallen Hall is approximately a 1¼-hour drive from Manchester International Airport. The nearest rail station is Llandudno Junction. There are regular trains from London (Euston) to Llandudno and the journey takes 3½ hours." - Tablet Hotels

Last minute decision to go away for a couple of nights, and after scrolling the usual deals and promotions, we took a chance on North Wales as only 2 hours drive from home. What an amazing place! Our room was a cottage in the grounds of the hotel, and was perfect for our requirements. A short stroll from the main building for dinner and breakfast which were both excellent. The best was that while hubby did a little work during the day in the living room of the cottage, I went to the spa for a pamper. The pool is so inviting, which I had to myself on more than one occasion, great gym for all levels of fitness training, of which I was in the less intense category. The AA treatments were relaxing and rejuvenating. The attentiveness and genuine willingness to make your experience memorable came accross from everyone who looked after us. I felt like a celebrity! We will definitely return, and next time for longer

What a gem! Great food, serene Spa and beautiful hotel. As soon as we walked through the door, the stress and frustration of the Friday traffic dissolved away because of the welcome we got. Just what we needed for a short break to escape the daily grind! |We were looked after above and beyond, with hotel workers attending to our every request with ease and always with a smile. I had an Environ treatment that seemed to lift the years from my face. Would unquestionably, recommend a 100%. Plus our dog loved the treats. Can't wait to return.

Appalling service. Nobody to greet you. Nobody knew anything about the wines so could not give advice. Wine presented was not the correct wine so we sent it back to be changed. Restaurant Manager very curt with no people skills. Yorkshire puddings were like eating leather. When paying staff member thought it was great when we said it was only ok. We were trying to be nice by not saying it was very poor but it went straight over their head.! There is a difference between ok, good, fantastic and superb they need to learn the difference.. So disappointing after going there for over 30 years and having great food and service. Sorry to say won't be going back.

We have just returned from an idyllic bank Holiday weekend at Bodysgallen Hall. Having stayed at their sister hotel in York earlier in the year, we decided to give Wales a go, and we were not dissapointed. We had high expectations after our Middlethorpe Hall experience, which were all met and exceeded due to the warm and friendly welcome from every member of staff we encountered. The position of the hotel is just what we wanted, glorious views of the surrounding countryside in every direction, but only a few minutes drive to town. We dined on both evenings and will need to hit the gym in order to get back into shape after all the delicious food. The grounds are very well maintained, and so many home grown ingredients in the kitchen garden. I cannot praise the staff enough, always a smile and nothing is too much trouble. We will most definitely return , maybe at Christmas when the fires are lit. Diolch y faw (apologies if spelt wrong)

We went to Bodysgallen Hall for a Spa treatment and afternoon tea. I had the 80 mins. Forest Therapy Massage 80 Mins with Roisin. It was absolutely amazing. The spa is comfortable and beautifully decorated. The staff are polite, professional and attentive. |We went to the main hall for afternoon tea.|The sandwiches and cakes were fresh, delicious and plentiful which made a welcome change from some places we have visited! I do not drink tea but this was not a problem (another big issue at some places) and a carafe of good coffee was supplied. The service was fantastic.|I have been here for lunch on a number of occasions and the food and service has always been impeccable. I would suggest allowing time for a stroll around the gardens and parkland.|I would not hesitate to recommend.

Location is out of the way, need to drive. Went for afternoon tea. Great service, very friendly staff, presentation of food amazing, food was full of flavour. Recommend the afternoon tea. Price reflected the high standard of food. Didn't see rooms.

We anticipated a memorable afternoon tea experience in the olde world charm of Bodysgallen Hall. The waiter was very pleasant and welcoming. however we had to wait for them to prompt the receptionist who had failed to notice our presence. The finger sandwiches were nice and fresh and the scones were light and fluffy. We were surprised to be given a little pot of mass produced jam in a small jar each. We were also surprised that a slop bowl was not provided with the excellent Darjeeling tea.
