Bodysgallen Hall (Llandudno, UK) 2 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"There is no better setting for a cozy whodunit — Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple would have felt quite comfortable here. This 17th-century manor, set in 22 acres of fountains and climbing roses, is British hospitality to the extreme. Fireplaces crackle, footsteps tread softly on Persian carpets, and ancestral oil paintings take up every corner. Retire to the oak-paneled drawing room, help yourself to one of the novels in the 19th-century bookcase, and gaze out the diamond-paned windows. You can either elect to stay in the main house, or one of the cottages nearer to the spa, where marmalade tabby cats sometimes crawl into the windows to demand a saucer of cream. All rooms are, in contrast to the club-like appearance of the public spaces, designed with a Laura Ashley touch. Flowers and frills abound from rose-printed bed flounces to canopies and curtains. A bucket of umbrellas stands at the door, the ceilings are crisscrossed with wooden beams. Try to get a view of neighboring Conwy Castle — its forbidding stone facade and your own sweet surroundings provide a strangely satisfying contrast. This is a formal place, one-of-its-kind in Wales, and slightly incongruous with the wild and wooly countryside that birthed both Dylan Thomas and D.H. Lawrence. Even before you come in, doormen are bowing to you deeply. Sherry is the drink of choice, and pearls are de rigeur. Children under the age of eight are not allowed, and older children are closely monitored — for example, they are only allowed in the swimming pool for two hours a day. And no where is formality more evident than in the dining room. Dining at Bodysgallen is done in full evening attire. Even the food is grown up — rich and gamey, meats like venison and pheasant marvelously seasoned with wine sauces and herbs plucked from the garden. You can watch the chefs harvest them during the day, looking adorably plucky in their white uniforms against the wet, green landscape. It’s said that certain heads of state come here by helicopter just for a bite. Brush up on your knowledge of cutlery — there are more knives and forks than the Queen herself owns, and all are pure silver. Puzzled by a tiny filigree spoon three stops to the right? The immaculately polite waiter will cover for you. Unnerved? We love it. Especially with our own unpredictable lives and one fork in our drawer, there really is a no more appropriate holiday. How to get there: Bodysgallen Hall is approximately a 1¼-hour drive from Manchester International Airport. The nearest rail station is Llandudno Junction. There are regular trains from London (Euston) to Llandudno and the journey takes 3½ hours." - Tablet Hotels

A lovely country hotel tucked away in a quiet spot near Llandudno. We had a cottage suite which was roomy, quirky and charming. Sadly the beds were so uncomfortable and the couch in the lounge section had long had its day!, so uncomfortable. The breakfast was nice but service was slow and muddled at times (think this was due to foreign staff with limited English) For the high price a tad disappointing to be honest. However a great spot to explore North Wales… Portmeirion, Conwy etc

Booked for Sunday lunch for my partners 50th birthday. Seen a recent review from a influencer and was impressed. The staff were so friendly and looked after our every need. This place is exquisite. Nothing is too much. You are literally waited on hand a foot. We chose the 3 course Sunday lunch. It was amazing and very filling. They have an extensive wine list at reasonable prices. I would definitely return to this place. I would love to stay the night. If you like period properties, this is the place for you.

Went for festive afternoon tea. We were the only people in the afternoon tea room. It’s located in a 16th century wing with very traditional decor. There was a haunted feel about the place and for the most part, we were alone without any staff waiting on us. I think they forgot about us. Before leaving, we weren’t even sure where to pay. The food was nice but not worth the money we paid.

A great hotel, very traditional, it's like going back in time. Staff were great. Breakfast was decent, but not spectacular. We can't recommend the restaurant, happy to pay £££s if it's decent, but it was bland, all for show, but very little taste. Disappointing. You get a better meal out in the town for half the price, and full of flavour (try the Seahorse). We found the 12.5% service charge on everything a cynical attempt to drive up prices, drinks over priced too, plus the service charge on top. My wife used the Spa and she was very complimentary with the treatment as service. All in good, but don't think you are getting a good deal on the restaurant, that bits is a let down and could be much better... Or charge less and do something with more flavour and less flounce!

Superb service - and my thanks to all staff from the moment we arrived to the time we left after breakfast. A lovely large room and well cooked and presented food, although the menu could have been wider. The grounds were not like a usual National Trust Garden in the sense that much of it was bordering on the wild but we had an interesting chat with the gardener and felt very relaxed wandering through the grounds. A useful experience in trying out a 3 rosette hotel.

Once again a lovely stay at the Bodysgallen hall. The hall was resplendent in traditional xmas decorations with roaring fires in many common areas. We stayed in a superior king room with views over frosty winter grounds. Staff were attentive and all needs were met promptly. Fortunately our stay coincided with the Spa Christmas party and lots of glasses of bubbly were had. Special mention to Dion, the antipodean sales assistant, who was able to show me the variety of skincare products on offer at the event. Left with many presents for the family (and myself).

We stayed in one of the cottages. It was very cute. It was a little cold in there, and if I had a minor complaint, it would be the (lack of) ventilation. But the cottage itself was quaint. The bathroom was small. It had its own gorgeous garden. The hotel staff were great. The food was nice, wine was delicious. The location was brilliant. It’s so beautiful - the gardens and woodland even at this autumnal time of the year. It was expensive though. The spa was good. All in all a good ‘escape to the countryside’. Bonus - Got a free ticket to Conwy castle.

What a gem! Great food, serene Spa and beautiful hotel. As soon as we walked through the door, the stress and frustration of the Friday traffic dissolved away because of the welcome we got. Just what we needed for a short break to escape the daily grind! |We were looked after above and beyond, with hotel workers attending to our every request with ease and always with a smile. I had an Environ treatment that seemed to lift the years from my face. Would unquestionably, recommend a 100%. Plus our dog loved the treats. Can't wait to return.
