Visit South Africa’s Wine Country With This Guide to the Cape Winelands

"I taste at Boekenhoutskloof’s Franschhoek tasting room set against a stunning mountain backdrop and join (by appointment) an extensive 90‑minute communal tasting hosted by the winemaker that showcases Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the cult-favorite The Chocolate Block (most of whose grapes come from Swartland vineyards); the estate also sells old vintages at its small town shop and bar, Invincible." - Nina Caplan

I am so pleased we came for the tasting! Such a fabulous and generous experience. You need to book in advance and the experience is communal. We were met by the winemaker and taken on a tour of the facility. Afterwards we were treated to some of their lovely wines - from the newly acquired Hemel and Aarde Cap Maritime vineyard to Porseleinberg. simply divine.

Another fabulous purchase at special rates after attending the local book festival. The grounds are so beautiful and it’s a tonic to walk down to the vineyards below the tasting area. Rich history and impressive service from every staff member. Very slick process of tasting and ordering, paying and packing.

The visit at Boekenhoutskloof was amazing. The service of the staff was exceptional. The range of wines tasted was perfect and not at least the quality of the wines - just a fantastic and memorable experience.

This is one of the best wineries in all of South Africa. The tour and chat with Gottfried the wine maker is especially exciting for knowledgeable enophiles. Otherwise, buckle up and enjoy the vibe and generous tasting offered afterwards.

Once a week via dineplan, appreciate that they continuously offer library wines for the tastings

Wine was great - 5 stars! We were so appreciative to be able to do a tasting with limited availability. The wine maker Gottfried, was nice; but not the most personable or engaging. He talked through his presentation fairly quickly and was not very interactive. More engagement with the guests would definitely improve the overall experience. Again, great wine; and definitely highly recommend a visit if you’re fortunate enough to schedule a tasting!

We had a chance to attend for tasting. Everything was great. Well designed decent place, such as their wines. Please dont forget tasting is Tuesday’s and Thursday’s by appointment only
